This review is long overdue! We worked with Rainier Heating and Cooling to have a cooling system installed in our home and to replace our 21 year old furnace. Originally, we looked into a traditional AC unit, but after Steve and Mike came to our house for a consultation, we were sold with a Daikin heat pump (not to say that tradition AC's are bad, etc., the heat pump just and is the better option for our home). We worked with Steve in getting the process going - paperwork/contract, etc; and he was a very professional and friendly person to work with. He was quick to respond to any question we had while we waited for our install day. He and Mike were very knowledgeable in their line of work, which made us feel peace of mind. The team who came and did the actual heat pump/furnace installations were also very friendly and professional. They finished the job in one day, extremely knowledgeable, left the place clean, and had no issues in working around our cluttered garage (sorry about that guys!). As for the heat pump, we're so happy with it!! We're still getting used to our new thermostat, but it's very easy fo use. We got a heat pump installed by Rainier about 2 months ago, so writing this now with some perspective. I'm on a quest to fully electrify our house, so this was not a time-sensitive project. Overall, service, price, and installation were all great! I got quotes from 3 companies for this project, and they came back across $15k-$22k. We went with the mid-priced option that Rainier recommended on a Daikin unit, and I'm really glad with that choice. The unit has been very quiet, effective, and efficient. As is often the case with a company of this size, there's a primary point of contact, Steve, who does the quote and initial walk-through, and then a work crew who perform the installation. Steve was great, honest, and not at all pushy. Some of the other companies were not as easy to work with, even just for the quote phase. The work crews were good as well, getting the project done in 2 days. There was a minor issue with some cosmetics on the installation. Our heat pump was installed last November in time and on budget. They helped us to get a $4,000 rebate from our electricity supplier, and have an enhanced warranty. We couldn't have been happier. This June, our display showed a message that the system failed, and was out of service. We couldn't get a service appointment less than three weeks out, during which time we have neither heat nor A/C. Luckily, we live near Seattle, and weather extremes are unlikely, but smoke is another matter. We're disappointed that we have protection from neither. read more

Overall, this ended up being a disappointing experience. It was recommended we could change out our furnace and thermostat after our heat pump began freezing up. In the end our vents now blow extra loud due to the new furnace and our heat pump still freezes up. The suggestion was to switch out our metal ducts for flex. After spending $5000, I'm going to stop while I'm ahead and wait to replace the whole unit (heat pump and new furnace) elsewhere. The furnace that was installed was supposedly Goodman or Daiken, but I cannot find the company name on it anywhere which I find a bit strange. Our filter cover was installed upside down and our filter doesn't sit in it straight. Our new thermostat was installed leaving a red marker that I can't cover up. I really do hate to write bad reviews, but every time my heat/AC turns on and our vents are blowing loudly I am reminded of my frustration from this experience. I contacted Rainier Heating and Cooling in February, 2023, to discuss having ac installed at my house. Steve responded quickly and we were able to arrange a visit to review my options. He answered all of my questions with zero pressure or attempt to upsell. He quickly prepared an estimate of the different options we discussed and we moved forward with a central air conditioning system, which was installed in late March. The install team from Rainier called me the morning of and advised they were a little early and wanted to see if it was okay to show up, which was both awesome for being early and professional for checking. You can't get better service than this. The owner Mike was on time, very responsive to my concerns which were many. He went over all the available options to efficiently cool our 2 story home. His Electrician came out and the following day and all went smoothly. Very professional. Jeremy and Jonathan showed up next and completed the install. A few alterations were made to the furnace and the Daikin AC unit was placed in our back yard. The unit is very quiet. House can feel like a near artic blast if needed. Mikes team went over the system and newly installed modern touch screen thermostat. Prior to leaving they cleaned up the area. Couldn't ask for more. We had a slight mishap on the day of installation because the ground where the existing location of the A/C compressor appear to be sinking and I suggested if they can relocate the placement of the new heat pump. I'd recommend Rainier heating and cooling. They replaced our older furnace first when it went out in the middle of the winter 2 years ago. They had quality products at a price less than their competitors. One of the options with the furnace was a blue light filter. ( air scrubber) They recommended it and we added it. I am quite prone to respiratory infections and prior to the blue filter being added to our furnace I got 3-4 serious infections a year and sometimes more. It was like I never totally got over one before I would get the next one. Similar problems for the kids....then we got the blue light filter air scrubber added to our new furnace. In 2 years we have had only one bout with a respiratory infection that was serious at all in our entire household. This is significant and helpful in normal times but with everyone dealing with a Pandemic, it's priceless. Researched more and found out that the blue light air scrubber actually kills the Covid virus. We've stayed well despite the fact my husband travels for his work. What a blessing! Most recently we hired Rainier to install a heating and cooling system in most part to get ready for when it gets hot in the summer since we were tired of installing and uninstalling window units every summer....and we know that they are not very energy efficient either. They put them in and now we not only are ready for summer, we also have more even heat in our historic home than we had with a furnace alone ( we could have redone old duct work and kept the same furnace and not gotten the mini split system, but we wanted air conditioning too so this made the most sense) There were some minor issue with equipment and they came right out and adjusted and fixed it. Recently switched over to ductless mini splits and we couldn't be happier for going with Rainier. Steve walked us through all of our options and was super friendly, sociable, and especially knowledgeable of Daikin systems which was perfect for us. My husband told me there was a cat in our vent on his way out the door for work. I went in search of a cat in the vent and assumed I found it. I called all the public services you could think of calling in this scenario plus some. No one could help me. I even called the company that installed my HVAC. No help... I wish I could give this company 10 stars! I had a 25 year old gas furnace and some ductwork that needed to be replaced. Steve came out to have an initial look at the job and quickly worked with Mike to produce an estimate the same day. They worked with me to tune the estimate, so I would get exactly what I wanted in terms of features. Mike also came out a few days later to review the requested job, so he could be sure the estimate was accurate as possible (no last minute surprises). I was able to easily schedule an asbestos abatement company on a Monday to remove the old ducts in the basement.
