Terrible experience. Been going there for years and this year the service has gone so far under. The staff was trying to get me to accept the wrong prescription for contacts even when I very clearly couldn't see. We finally got the right prescription for the contacts and I was picking up new glasses but they started rushing me out and didn't give me a prescription check on the glasses that I ordered from their store. Beware of hidden fees and poor communication. My daughters and I have been coming here for a couple of years, and while the staff is generally fine, my most recent experience was disappointing enough that we won't be returning. I decided to purchase eyeglasses for the first time in years to give my eyes a break from contacts. The frames I wanted weren't in store, but I was told I could return them within a week if I wasn't satisfied. No one mentioned a restocking fee or any exchange limitations. When I returned the glasses six days later (because I couldn't see well through them and they didn't fit my face), I was told I'd be charged a 25% restocking fee--and only allowed one exchange if I chose another pair. This was never communicated upfront. The employee claimed it was "in the contract," but I was never told I was signing a contract--just handed papers I assumed were my receipts. Now I'm out $75 for a pair of glasses I couldn't use. I would have happily gone somewhere like Warby Parker, where the policies are clearly communicated and customer-friendly. Very disappointed in the lack of transparency. I hope they reconsider how they handle customer education and returns. read more

Overall I like this establishment. I have now been to both Castle Rock and Castle Pines and not a big difference; however, I have to say I experienced a bit of attitude from two employees at the Castle Pines location. The first was helping me get replacement lenses for my frames. She was all up for looking into a warranty issue, but then I made a subtle joke about the politics in Douglas County and she was no longer interested in looking into the warranty issue. Fine-I didn't even think it was a thing until she first suggested it, so I am not out anything from when I walked in. The second was when I called to let them know I was possibly going to be 5-10 minutes late because of an accident on I-25. My lateness wasn't going to jeopardize their closing time (and candidly, if it had then I would have just rescheduled. I was just being polite). He made it abundantly clear when they closed and there was no way they would stay late for me, it was a Friday after all. For the record, I got there 5 minutes late, the tech I talked to was not doing anything (still copped a bit of an attitude) but got the new lenses in place 30 minutes prior to closing. If it were me, I would always use the Castle Rock location as they are all just nicer. read more

Won't go there now that they insist on EVERY patient getting a extra-cost out-of-pocket retinal scan. Apparently they bought a fancy piece of equipment and not enough people were opting into the extra cost - so they decided to make EVERYONE use/pay for it. How about you stop the corporate crap and focus on your patient's wants, and let people decide for themselves ? read more

They have a new office policy requiring a $39 retinal scan at every exam that was previously optional and isn't covered by insurance. This really adds up if the whole family gets an annual eye checkup! They would like their patients to pay for their fancy new piece of equipment. Obviously if you need a retinal scan you should see an Ophthalmologist/Medical Doctor instead and the Optometrists should continue to use screening covered by insurance and refer to a Dr when necessary. This is a deal breaker for us and we will be going elsewhere. I called around and some offices do this as a revenue generator but many do not. read more

3 strikes and DONE with this place. 1. Have gotten a bad prescription x2 from Dr. Ortman. 2. The glass pops out of my aviator sunglasses. I was told that the glass was mismeasured. Since it's been 2+ years they will not replace. (I just kept popping it back in instead of going back sooner) 3. The billing person called today to say they didn't charge enough for my husbands exam and want $50 more. There is a LensCrafters in CR that has so far exceeding my expectations! read more

Terrible service. Saw me, eye exam, and everything. Then they didn't ever submit to insurance. 6 weeks later. They tell me they did. They DID NOT. I went somewhere else, I was taken care of SAME DAY. Dr Ortman's office is advanced in technology in more than ways you can imagine. I was surprised to be sitting there and he started asking me which is better 1 or 2, 3 or 4 - but he was not sitting close to me. He has upgraded his office to help patients get better eyesight and he will recommend what type of glasses / contacts that you need. Take his advice - I didn't one year and I had to go back to get the other contacts that he recommended. His staff is very helpful and reliable. read more

Worst eye doctors office everrrr! The office manager is an absolute nut! Tried reaching out to Dr Ortman......he responded back saying he would speak with us when he got back from vacation. He could care less about this practice. So sad! We had the same eye doctor over 25 years....then we relocated. Beware do NOT go to thus practice! Dry eyes no more! Dr. Ortman is the best. He takes it as personal challenge to get whatever you need done for you. I went in for an exam for glasses and mentioned I had dry eyes. He told me about a device called iLux which unclogs your pores (glands) between eyelashes. I was skeptical but had suffered with dry eyes so many years, I thought I'd try it. Well for the first time in over 15 years I do not have dry eyes! It's been about 5 months since he did it and it is still amazing. I can wear make up without it bothering me, my cornea has scratches and I am thinking that I will prevent further damage by having my eyes properly lubricated. Thank you Dr. Ortman! Dr Ortman is quite good. Just DO NOT order your glasses from them. Over 4 weeks now and still waiting. I wanted to use my old frames so I have been without glasses for close to 5 weeks. Glasses still not in. Previous glasses that I got from them de-laminated and they would not warranty them or give me any break on the new ones. Good doctor, horrible opticians. read more

I first visited Black Diamond Eye Care's Lakewood location back in August 2020. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the staff and the doctor. They were quick to see me and very personable. I loved the doctor as she took her time, asked key questions, and seemed knowledgeable. I hadn't had an eye exam in over 2 years so was kind of nervous going into it, but she made it a relaxing process. A few weeks later I had to go back into the office to get my computer/reading adjusted. They completely re-did the office space. Very modern, clean, vibrant, bright lobby! I was further impressed. I must compliment Justin at the front desk, he is very attentive, friendly, and engages with customers in a professional yet kind way. Michael is the office manager and does a fantastic job! Great service! Was very courteous on the phone when I called to make appointment. Was able to get appointment for next day which really helped me out. The office staff and doctor (Dr. Anderson) are all very friendly and professional. They have new equipment that I liked that keeps you from having to get your eyes dilated. It cost $39 out of pocket (not covered by my insurance) but that was well worth it for me. I hate having my eyes dilated! They also check for eye pressure with a new mini, hand held device that work great. I disliked the old way of staring into a blue light waiting for a strong puff of air; it always made me jump two feet out of the chair! :) LOL! I haven't used their optical department yet but plan to do that next week. Need new lenses and a pair of prescription sunglasses. Will update after I have that all done. read more

Just moved into town and chose Castle Pines Eye Care because they had the best reviews and close to our home. Made my boyfriend and I an appointment. He had his first on a separate day and came home saying "wow babe, you did a great job they were awesome!" And sure enough I went in for my appointment, the ladies at the front desk, to the nurse who I didn't catch his name, and Dr Ortman and Tamas who helped me pick out my frames were absolutely fabulous, welcomed me to the community and took amazing care of me. Got me right in on time for my appointment and we're even able to get my glasses the same day as they had them in stock! Would highly recommend! read more

I've been a customer for 5 years. Prior to today I had never been late for an appointment, though I have had to wait for the doctor for my appointment. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I arrived 10 minutes late for appt. My appt. was canceled and they would not fit me in. I have waited longer than that in the examination rooms for the doctor to arrive. They are all about the numbers. Even if you have been a loyal patient, there is no room for loyalty on their part. Extremely helpful and friendly staff and Dr. Ortman was very friendly and knowledgeable. I opted to have an exam without having to have dialating drops using the Optomap Retinal Imaging technology (worth the few extra $$'s). This was so easy and Dr. Ortman then could then show me the images and discuss with me.I really did appreciate that! I had moved from So. Oregon recently and Dr. Ortman was recommended by my nurse practitioner here in Castle Rock. It is so difficult to just pick out healthcare from the internet so really appreciate my referrals! I just moved from SF where I had the same loved optometrist for years. I thought it was going to be tough to find someone like her, but lo and behold I discovered Dr Ortman at Castle Pines Eyecare. The office environment is worth the drive and my husbband tells me the magazine selection rocked. (Sadly, he had been stuck reading RV World & Highlights magazines at a different Dr's office earlier that day). The staff is friendly and helpful, and I was really impressed with Dr Ortman. He was a very cool, knowledgeable Dr who fit my difficult prescription on the spot. Also, the office is really high tech. They don't dilate or blow air into your eyes, they have new fancy equipment that can do the same thing without the awkwardness. read more
