Stopped by to give this place a try on a not-so-busy Sunday, finally, and it was an overall chill experience. They get really busy here, so we were surprised we got a great seat and ended up chatting it up with a fellow local seated near us. It was nice to connect with a fellow Belltown patron who recommended a few other watering holes nearby. Feels like this is the local spot and we've been missing out. The bartender was really hard working and amiable. I watched him serve a group of like 15 people and then I had to tell him my beer was flat and he was totally accommodating. He changed the gas and got me a new one quickly despite being the only one working the bar and even brought it to my table. The food was decent. I liked the grilled cheese and the vegan corn dog, but the fries were way too thick. More like potato wedges. They had lots of veggie and vegan options as well as a selection of snacks and entrees. This place is great. I wish I had a place like this near my home in Illinois, because I would be there everyday. On our trip to Seattle we stumbled upon this gem and found the whole vibe - for us, at least - to be comfortable and welcoming, with great music and attentive staff. We were bar hopping on the night of Feb 7th ran into two random military people who were visiting Washington and just trying to have a few drinks like us so they joined us into this bar, we sat down the two random people started to strike up a conversation with two ladies and the bartender was not okay with it, I sat at the bar to get a drink and sit back with my friends and they refused to serve me unless I stood over on the opposite side of the bar. I asked if that had Coronas I got a sharp reply no followed by a this is similar popped open a beer and handed to me before I could make a new choice, the beer was awful. The bartender kept telling me to get the two random guys we came in with to get away from the two woman they were chatting with I was polite and tried to see if the guys wanted to sit with us and leave the ladies, but they were all having conversations and seemed to be no issues... The Bartender was very rude to one of my friends who wore a black Tshirt with an American flag on it, nothing political or bold just a simple flag on the front and was criticized for it and she tried to make in political. My friend was very polite about it all because he was just out to have drinks and that's it. I got yelled at for standing slightly to the right side of the bar (which is still apart of the bar) to talk to the bartender about closing my buddies tab and was quick yelled at to get out from behind the bar.. we were not belligerent, we just wanted to have a simple drink or two to close out the night, but left and right were disrespected. The Black Cat was open late on a Sunday night two friend from Wisconsin were visiting. We were already speaking in tongues by the time we sat down at the Black Cat's bar, and the woman bartender was very patient, even agreeing to snap photos of us. We had a great time, and there is nothing pretentious about the Black Cat. In fact, I was the most pretentious thing in the bar. I didn't notice anything distinctive about the Black Cat, but then, I wasn't noticing much of anything. It was fun though. read more

There is a niche in Seattle for great dive bars. Eric did a good job. Local microbrews at fair prices for the highly accessible belltown location. Cool murals and an all around pleasant, divey vibe. I saw another review where a guy was salty that the bartender yelled at him for asking about buying women (he didn't know) drinks. I'd like to commend that bartender for their service. As a woman (and a femme woman dating another femme, often mistaken for jUsT fRiENdS by bar dudes) I just want to go to the bar and not have men attempt to engage with me. First the menus in the pictures are already outdated. Things have already been removed. lots of dishes are base around fries. I am also surprised stroganoff has still made the list. And I like stroganoff but I figured it would have gone by now. It's a dive bar, plain and simple. If it was late at night and I wanted a quiet beer, I would go here first. If reasonably priced meal in Belltown and nothing fancy, I would consider coming here. However, Black Cat is by no means the first bar on my list of places to go. Even for skeeball, I know better places. I had some food. Stroganoff and burgers look ok. The French toast Monti Cristo sandwich isn't dinner but desert and has the bread is wrong for it. Fancy bakery doesn't mean what the chef comes up with works. The drinks are dive classics and beer. Black Cat is an easy-going bar in Belltown. I've never had a bad night at this bar, and I love that it has Malört on tap and BeerBall Skeeball machines. The staff is laid back and enjoyable. And Black Cat usually draws the crowd that you can end up striking a conversation with at some point during the night. All in all, it's a go-to spot for me in Belltown. Beers: Good selections of IPA's along with other beers. It seemed a lot of them were around $7, but then they had Ranier on tap for $4. Cocktails: My brother is a big fan of egg-white cocktails, and he was pleased to find they are able to make them. We ended up drinking a couple Gin Fizz's, which were delectable and light. Food: My brother and I split wings and poutine last night. It was good, but not great. Definitely hit the spot as somewhat drunken munchie. As with all taverns, dives, or restaurant/bar establishments, don't go in with the same expectations as other places, or you will be disappointed. Come in with a patient attitude and easy going demeanor, and the staff will immediately warm up to you. Every place is different concept, so their service style might differ. Alright just about describes it. We came here on a quiet night and ordered a couple cocktails. They made my Old Fashioned strong enough and the Tom Collins wasn't bad either. I was just struck by how much it cost for the two drinks - we ended up paying $40 or so. Although a group of regulars came in at some point, the place is big enough that it still appeared empty. The bartenders were polite but unobtrusive, which was fine by me. Overall, it seems like a spot that doesn't get much attention, but I can't decide why. It's not a bad place to sit down, but I suppose the fact that there was nothing outstanding about it makes people walk past. I might go back, but I doubt it. Visiting from out of town, this has been an experience, not in a good way either. We tried to park & a man came out, had us repark, & tried to have us tip $10. He walked us to an atm when we didn't have it then only gave $6 change out of a $20. We just wanted a beer & to use the restroom. The bartender made my friend & I order a drink before walking away from the bar, even though I told him we were going to buy a beer; but as women, we don't want to walk away from our drinks. He told us to take them to the bathroom or he'd watch them. We ended up ordering & walking away. As an establishment, that's a horrible thing to do to your customers. On top of all that, they have one of the absolute best food experiences tucked in the back in Garzón. The Latinx Street Food makes for exceptional dinner plans or late night eats. What a spot, I frequently find myself here sipping on a beer from the extensive local draft list or a Malört off the tap. 10/10 must go spot in Seattle for a truly local experience. read more

This place is really laid back. It doesn't have a large crowd, but the people are extremely nice and welcoming. I'm a personal fan of sour beers, and the DRL MTN Cider is a very close second. Not sweet by any means, but also not too sour. If you like sours or if you like ciders, this is a bit for you! If you like chill bars with good music this bar is also a bit for you!
