I've taken a bit of reviewing hiatus over the last month or so but I could not keep my mouth shut about Black Box's new triple dark chocolate twice baked croissant roll. In fact I'll go to the top of any 14er, clearly not after eating one of these, and shout it from the mountain top. I'll keep this shorter than I usually do since the picture pretty much does it justice but this thing was incredible. I was initially ready to order a Hot Honey Sausage Roll but due to the fact that I waited till almost 11am to order it they had sold out. Quickly thinking on my feet I pivoted to the sweet side of their menu as this chocolate beauty was looking at me dead in the face. I will say the amount of chocolate is pretty clear from the picture but the layers of it are so much more apparent once you take a bite. I'm actually not much of a fan of chocolate croissants because it's usually 95% bread and 5% chocolate hiding underneath. This thing did not have that issue. From the chocolate brownie tasting crumbs on top, to the layers of chocolate built in the flaky layers of dough to the chocolate oozing out of it to the bed of it sitting at the bottom I could not get enough. If you are a chocoholic it might cause you to relapse but trust me when I say it this bad health decision was one of the best decisions I've made for my tastebuds in a while. It's location within Edgewater public market makes it a great spot for grabbing a to-go box and walking to Sloan's Lake to enjoy good pastries with a view. You can expect photo worthy space-themed pastries here. They focus a lot on presentation and their filled croissants were even trending TikTok shortly after opening! The pastry flavors are pretty good too. They make several signature pastry "shapes" in different rotating flavors. In my opinion, the citrus and fruit flavored pastries are their best. The passion fruit was really refreshing! Some of the more delicate flavors like jasmine and thyme were harder to taste. And don't skip the vanilla lemonade if you like a sour lemonade. It pairs great with the rich pastries! The staff are very friendly and efficient. As my friend said, you cannot get this outside of France. Amazing, flakey delicious pastries. Be there early for best selection. Pizza pesto was not as exciting as I thought, nor the coffee croissant but still very flaky. The focaccia was springy and full of air pockets; I love to have a flavored one. Strawberry cream and almond were excellent. Bon bons were best at room temp. The mall is empty early in the day since most places don't open until 10 or later, which was the only drawback to being early. Not really much seating. I flew in from Las Vegas and flew out with focaccia and pastries and Bon bons and cookies. They all travelled well but the pastries and the focaccia expressed out a lot of oils/butter. read more

Really enjoyed this place and enjoyed the tip we received from people sitting outside to order online. Our order was ready in like 10 minutes vs waiting inside would have probably taken 30-45 given the line. So that's your hot tip. We tried two croissants; both were filled and HUGE. The croissants were buttery and flaky, the filling was good (we tried Strawberry Milk and Strawberry Lemonade - they were quite similar but I liked the Strawberry Lemonade mode). Very creative to do so much filling; I don't know if I LOVED it but it was definitely different and I'd bring friends here to try them. Cute, new bakery inside Edgewater Marketplace. There wasn't a ton of choices on display (in comparison to other bakeries around) but still had the two things we were hoping to try. The Chocolate croissant was classic. Very flakey and buttery in taste. I just wish the chocolate was spread out in the croissant rather than one strip in the middle. Cinnamon roll had great flavors in the middle, but was burnt on the outside. They cover them in icing so that was hard to tell by first glance. I'd probably try something else if we go again! I don't know how to say this politely, but GET YOUR A** HERE! Someone I follow on Instagram posted about Black Box Bakery, and I knew I had to try their pastries. My mom and I visited this weekend, and I'm ready to go back. I ordered two patries, Maple Bacon Brekie and Creamsicle Cruffin, along with a cappuccino, and my mom tried a citrus pastry (not sure on the name). I ate the Maple bacon brekie the first day, and the cruffin the next morning. The cruffin was still amazing 24 hours later. Soft, chewy texture with an incredible orange cream. I'm drooling a bit while writing this review. The bakery is located inside of Edgewater Public Market, so it's surrounded by some really cute shops that you can visit after you come out of your pastry coma. A huge parking lot makes it easy to visit their location. And their staff was outgoing and friendly. read more

Round two and I scored the big cube! Saturday morning we got there around 10:40 and the large cubes (only available Fri-Sun) were sold out. Sunday we went at 8:30 and they open at 9 am (you can wait inside the market) - we were #10 in line but very quickly had 75+ people behind us. The line does move pretty quick though. 2 big cubes per person limit btw. Located inside Edgewater Public market, this storefront is really just a small window, condiment station, two benches and most importantly - a long table display of amazing crispy flakey deliciousness. There's plenty of tables around the market if you're eating in though. So I bought way too many croissant variations, but all were simply amazing. Now yes, you Europeans or kids who studied abroad and think you're half European - most of these aren't "real" croissants due to the shape and crazy flavors... but call them whatever you want - they're freaking yummy. Started with the pretzel rosemary ham and cheese- microwaved it at home for 30 seconds - perfection and only $6. Housemade Sausage hot honey one was so much meat for only $6, husband loved it. Lavender Blueberry small cube was bombbb, cream gave me cheesecake vibes, it was thick and creamy. Large cube was mixed berry and exploded when cut but just grab a knife and spread that goodnesss on your flakey layers. At $15 not sure I would buy it again unless it was a special occasion and I'm throwing a candle in it or something - don't mistake, it was yummy AF but a lot of the same flavor when I wanted all the things. I discovered Black Box Bakery through an Instagram suggestion, and it's situated within Edgewater Public Market. They switch up their menu every day, so it's a good idea to check their Instagram page to see what they're serving. In general, the service and the quality of their baked goods were fantastic. We really enjoyed the cubes; they were incredibly flaky and delicious. The sausage roll was one of the best I've ever tasted. Denver's bakery scene is boomin - so many options to choose from! This was actually my first visit to Edgewater Market, super cool place with so many spots to eat, little shops, plenty of seating inside and outside. When we arrived, it was still pretty early and not many of the shops were open just yet. By the time we left, the whole place was buzzing! We were there, of course, for Black Box Bakery. Everything they're serving for the day is on display so you can get up close and personal to make the right choice. The employee at the register made himself available to answer questions, in case you were unsure what was in each of the pastries. I actually asked him for opinions and he was honest which I love! I was really impressed with the selection and the fact that they have several sweet and savory options to choose from. I got 4 items and loved - LOVED! - all of them. Genuinely and enthusiastically. The Sausage Roll was awesome - so flavorful, tiny bit of sweetness but really good. I also got the Maple Bacon Breki which was super tasty. A savory custard in the center with bacon and again, touch of sweetness. Yum!! I got the Creamsicle Cruffin - it was crisp and sugary sweet on the outside with a really creamy orangey custard center. Amazing. Lastly, really special Citrus Starship. It's this delicate layered ribbon-y treat with an amazing citrus glaze and custard in the center. This was the standout surprise. It was all outstanding, no doubt but this is the thing I'm dreaming about. I'd be tempted to try the pistachio croissant next time. My friend got the cinnamon roll, ham and cheese pretzel croissant, and the Almond croissant - all of which were excellent (she shared bites, lucky me). I loved my iced chai as well, yum. This bakery may be the best in Denver. I tried four pastries and they were nothing short of perfection. I went in a Sunday morning and they had a line but it moved quickly and the staff were so friendly. I love that they have all their pastries on display before you get to the front so you can look at what you want to order before you're at the front of the line. They had very interesting spins on classics like a lavender blueberry croissant and their kouign amann had a vanilla filling. The pastries are fine here. When I came to Denver, it was heavily advertised and they aren't bad. My problem is with making a large order. 1st time was December 2023 and they didn't give me one of my pastry items. But everything was great. Megan definitely knew what she was doing. This time for making a large order, no communication back that they got my order. Had to call Friday to even confirm it. Didn't tell me that they wouldn't make the strawberry milk croissant and told us when we got there(got a strawberry chocolate croissant) . Tried to rush us off when the person picking up the order wasn't sure what all the pastries looked like. Didn't have it bagged. Not sure what happened. If grabbing a few, they are great. When you walk up to Black Box and your plans were to only get a coffee, those plans, poof. They change. Immediately. You're greeted by a display of pastries, lined up to perfection, boasting their creativity and calling out for you to change your plans. First off, the coffee was indeed perfection. Perfectly roasted and brewed. The pastries were both joy and sadness- the latter because, by 12pm, they are sold out of many options. Joy because they still had this magical, filled croissant cube like you've never seen before. Adorned with edible roses, filled with raspberry jam, topped with a rich cream frosting, this palm size cube is goodness in a square. The cinnamon roll was rich, airy and a balance of cinnamon, croissant and icing. There was a return to sadness when we last visited Public Market- Black Box was closed for their post-holiday vacation. Even perfection needs to take a break! read more

Best bakery we have found in Denver! We have tried the raspberry cheesecake cruffin, nutella spaceship, orange jasmine, and the baguette along with some others. Everything has been outstanding. We live about 18 miles away from the Edgewater location but still find it worthwhile to make the trip to Edgewater. They are also available at Cherry Creek farmer's market on Saturdays in the summer, but be prepared for a long line there. Ambiance is not the reason you would go here, but it is pleasant enough at the Edgewater market. I only wish I had the baking skills they exhibit. Magnificent pastries and baguette! read more

I was SO excited to try this place after finding it on Instagram, but I have to say, I was a little disappointed. The standouts were the Pretzel Ham and Cheese and the chocolate chip cookie, and everything else was honestly a little underwhelming. I found most of the other pastries to be far too sweet in a laminated pastry- the pastry got overwhelmed quickly by the sugary fruited flavors inside. All were quite flaky and there was no shortage of butter in any of them. The colors inside were cool though. Before visiting Black Box, I thought jelly donuts were trash. I never heard of a laminated dough everything bagel. I figured between DBC biscuit style and Duffeyrolls, there was nothing new in the Denver Area cinnamon roll game. I was wrong. Black Box has an iced croissant stuffed with strawberry lemonade jam that was a revelation. That goodness still exists in this world, and is worth fighting for... They have a ham and cheese croissant that tastes like an extremely rich bagel with everything toppings. It's a perfect breakfast or brunch meal on its own. The cinnamon roll, made with laminated croissant dough, stuffed with cream cheese icing and frosted heavy and thick is only for the very best boys and girls. And we only sampled a fraction of the menu. I wish I was in Edgewater more often (GO PASCO DRAGONS!!!), but Black Box is certainly worth a weekend trip. read more

The bakery opens at 9 on weekends but it's best to show up beforehand to get in line and get the broadest selection of pastries, as they will run out of their top sellers. We had the summer tomato breki, the almond croissant, the NYC bagel croissant with scallion cream cheese, the lemon merengue croissant, and the giant cube croissant that is IG famous. At $15, it's worth getting once but definitely won't be a repeat purchase as I thought all of the other parties were much better.
