I was seated by the hostess as soon as I arrived. Then.... I sat there for 10 minutes at my table while three employees were talking to each other by the counter. They glanced at me a few times and continued their conversation. After 10 minutes, I stood up , put on my coat and was approachEd by a fourth employee. I said "thank you" and left. F*** that place. read more

Burnt burgers, forgotten sides, bland food. You really have to try to screw up a cheese burger, but forgetting the cheese is the first step and over cooking it is the second. Having to be reminded that someone ordered a shake three times doesn't get you a good tip and completely forgetting the side salad topped off the unforgettable service we recieved. Place was slow on our Sunday afternoon visit, service was slow and very poor. How you screw up three of the four orders is beyond me but you guys did it! Won't be returning!! read more

Sunday, March 11, Sandy store. Phoned in an order for self pickup. The person I spoke with was difficult to understand and didn't seem to understand me. I ordered Pot Roast Dinner with mashed potatoes, country gravy and vegetables. Pleasent surprise, green salad came with it after I was told salad didn't come with it. However the tomatoes still had the flower part still attached. The main dinner dish was disappointing. Vegetables consisted of four slices of carrots and four or five pieces of onion a very skimpy amount of pot roast and an average amount of mashed potatoes. When I opened the tray the food was barely warm and the gravy was gelled with a skin on it. Required microwaving to get to a serving temperature. I was given a 10 minute pick up time. I was there within the time frame, and waited at the front desk about 10 minutes before they asked if I had been helped. I am thinking my order had been ordered by someone else earlier and handed off to me. There seemed to be about five tables being served. A group of four left because they couldn't be seated. Two other people were waiting to be seated. Maybe they didn't have servers? I won't be doing takeout at BBD in Sandy again. read more

I used to be in the restaurant business, not anymore but I did for almost 8 years. Most of which was spent as a General Manager, Assistant Manager or Training Manager. I know resteraunts, I know customer service and this place obviously does not. I received food that was ordered by myself and a group of co-workers. We work at a close by Dental Office and ordered some brunch for pick up like we do from time to time. My co-worker places the large order while I was with a patient. Somewhere along the line a mistake was made. The order may have been placed wrong or it was taken wrong, I have know way of really knowing because no one knows how to admit they make mistakes anymore. So here is where I became upset, not so much in the mistake itself because that happens. Lord I know how much it happens. My distaste for this restaurant came after I called to get the mistake fixed. I explained that I ordered a meal and specifically asked for the scramble to not have sausage in it. I believe it was Titled as a "Sausage" scramble on the menu but I didn't want the sausage I just wanted everything else. No big deal right? Wrong. I was spoken to very disrespectfully. Employee- Why would you order the Chicken Sausage scramble and not want Sausage? **Not really you business why I order my food the way I do, that's irrelevant. But what the hell.** Me- I'm a vegetarian. That's why. I wanted the Fit Scramble without the sausage, I don't see the problem? Employee- Well I made that order myself and it did not say anything about no sausage. **Did I mention how rude this person was?** Me- Ok well I'm not sure why it didn't say that on the order but that's the way I asked for my food to be made. Employee- Well I made it myself and it didn't say that so you did your order wrong. That's not our fault. Me- Excuse me? Can I please speak to you manager? Employee- I am the manager. Me- Wow. I ordered food that was made incorrectly and your telling me that it's my fault? Manager- I don't see why we should take a hit just because you did the order wrong. Me- I didn't make the order, a different employee made everyones order. Even if my co-worker mistakingly left out the no sausage part of my order you are handling this horribly. Usually the problem is fixed without question in these type of situations because the couple of dollars it costs to re make the food is nothing compared to permanently loosing a customer or the bad rap you will get when said customer tells all their family and friends about their experience. Manager- Well I'll remake it for you but I still don't see how it's fair that we have to take a hit because of a mistake that wasn't our fault. Me- You know, I've worked in restaurants for most of my adult life and I have always lived by the customers always right saying even when the customer is wrong. Because customer service goes a long way. Regardless of who's fault it is it boils down to my food being made wrong and now we've spent most my lunch debating why you should take "the hit" for a mistake you see as mine. Manager- Like I said we will remake the food for you...... Me- I've lost my appetite and I'd like a refund. Manager- We can't offer refunds. Me- Well that's a downright lie, I know for a fact you can. Manager- Youll have to come back to the restaurant. Me- I've spent the better part if my break arguing with you so I have no time to return to the restaurant. My next patient is already here. So I'm gonna need you to refund my money please. Manager- *Sigh* Ok I can do this for you this one time but I won't again. Like I said before it makes no sense that we take a hit because you made your order wrong. Me- Thank you for refunding my money. I have to go now. Click. Really? I mean really? Whoever is the so called manager has horrible customer service and whoever is her higher up should seriously consider having a discussion with her about how to address customer concerns. I will never spend a dime of my money at this location and I can promise I will be happy to advertise your lovely set of customer service skills throughout the area. Free of charge. read more

Black Bear Diner - Sandy - Your not allowed to order this without the Chicken Sausage. It ruffled to many feathers. Trust me. - Diners Near Me - Sandy, Utah

You get a ton of food here. A ton. The service is great, really sweet and kind people every time I'm in. The place is clean too. The food is subpar. Really just meh. I've been here 4-5 times and have never really been impressed. They do have decent hash browns. I think it could be a place for those who tend to not have much of a palate, because my older family loves it so much (hence the reason I keep going). read more

This restaurant is fantastic and one of my favorites however this location has a few female employees that like to hang out in the bathroom ( this bathroom has 2 stalls) neither of the girls was actually using the bathroom in any way except for a place to chat. That is so weird. As someone with anxiety this was horrible for me and made it so I couldn't use the restroom. One of the girls literally said, " I'm taking my break in here" I would've understood that statement if she was using the restroom or fixing something in the mirror. She was not, she was just sitting there talking to another girl. Overall all I have to say is, employees that work at this restaurant please do not hang out in the bathrooms it's just weird. read more

It's hard to explain how much I hated this place. I have never had a worse waffle. You know those waffles that you sometimes get at free breakfast bars at hotels? You pour the batter into the waffle iron and it beeps at you when they are ready? -MUCH better than the waffle I just had a few unenthusiastic bites of. The service was minimally competent and almost pleasant to speak with. Bad food and shockingly expensive for the quality. read more

The orange juice here is really good, not that canned crap that tastes like chalk. The servings are enormous and very good! The service is more like a three star but this place gets a 4 stars because of the food and the orange juice... you really gotta try it (even though some days is not the best but amazing most of the time!). I do feel that there's a lot of room to grow in the service department. The place looks and feel like a grandma/grandpa type of shop even though it's a chain restaurant. Maybe servers have to get paid more to be happier and friendlier or something. read more

We stopped here tonight for chicken fried steak. The restaurant was an absolute wreck, which should have been our first clue. The salads were iffy with grated carrots that looked pale and dry. They'd definitely seen better days along with the limp cucumbers. To the side was a concrete muffin that was dry and hard as a rock. Every part of the edge (muffin top) was broken off in pieces and resting in the paper muffin wrapper that it was delivered in. Nothing could have saved that rock and nothing would have made it edible. The "meal" came out in just as bad form. The vegetable medley was discolored carrots that were brown and looking pretty sorry and broccoli that had some sort of scum and discoloration on the cut stem. It was absolutely disgusting. A couple of bites in and some mystery pieces in my meal and I was done. Our fountain drinks were in need of a refill when the server dropped off the food and, although she passed by our table a dozen times, she never once considered refilling them or asking if we needed anything, or how the food was, etc. My guess is that she was very well aware of the situation. When she finally appeared to drop off the check, I asked to speak with a manager. Ericka replied that there was not a manager on duty and she was acting as the manager. She did not ask anything else and did not seem equipped or interested to hear what I might want to say to said manager. I felt it was fruitless to complain to a server who saw nothing wrong with delivering the worst meal on the planet to our table. Shame on you, Black Bear Diner. I cannot imagine that you will be in business much longer. read more

Elena was perfect and great in every way. We tipped extra just cause of her hard work.

Came in for breakfast and there is plenty of choices, i would say that the food was decent but definitely generously in size, overall a decent meal but the service was slow, only our first time here so I don't know how it usually is, but for this meal it was a bit much. read more

Awesome service, good food. Very comfortable, loved my veggie omelet. Our server, bernadette, had amazing customer service.

Not sure where to even start. We decided to go to Black Bear Diner to celebrate my Mothers birthday. I sure wish we had not chosen Black Bear. There's was only one server for the entire restaurant. We started to order our meal and two of us chose the prime rib dinner. It clearly stated in the menu that the meal came with cornbread muffin, soup or salad, and choice of potato and vegetable. We pointed this out to the server and she was sure that the meal did not come with cornbread and a soup or salad. We finished ordering and the server went to enter the order into the computer. The server came back and did say that the prime rib dinner came with a salad. I asked what the soup of the day was and was told that while it was chicken noodle there was not enough left for a serving. This is the middle of dinner time on a Saturday and you are already out of soup. We then ordered a salad and waited for our food. We were served our salads without the cornbread but figured it was still coming. We were then served our food. We had ordered two tri-tip dip deluxe, one without the mushrooms, both prime ribs were to be prepared medium rare, a crispy chicken, bacon, ranch wrap tossed in the hot sauce, and a Volcano breakfast. The one tri-tip dip had mushrooms on it and neither one was served with the au jus to dip the sandwich in. One of the prime rib dinners was well done, not close to medium rare, the other prime rib dinner was so tough you could hardly cut it into bite size pieces and the wrap did not have the hot sauce on it. We asked for the au jus for the sandwiches and sent back the overcooked prime rib. It took over 20 minutes to finally get the Au jus and took us asking three times to get it. By the time it finally came the sandwiches were cold. The prime rib that was sent back came out again and was still well done. The sides came with this prime rib dinner were now cold as the server took the entire meal back when she went back. We asked to speak with a manager only to be told there was none on shift. Even after all this we decided to purchase a chocolate pie to go. When we got home we went to enjoy the pie only to find out that it was rotten. The crust was totally liquified and the pie itself tasted like sour milk. During our dining experience we all had run out of water and when I asked for more water the server brought one glass. We had to ask for every little thing it seemed like. After we were done with the meal, and realized we were not going to get our cornbread without asking we asked for that as well. The server did bring that to us to go, as we had asked, but it honestly looked like someone had taken a bite out of one of the cornbreads. The tri-tip French dips were also really tough, had very little meat, and looked like a pre-schooler had put them together. The only meal that was semi-decent was the breakfast. However he had to ask several times for more syrup, and ice water. This is the most disappointing dinning experience any of us have ever had. Black Bear used to be good, but I won't recommend it ever again. read more

Is this a circus? I'm serious. Why on earth is someone running around making balloon animals? Why is everyone who works there forced to wear suspenders? It creeped me out. And the "biscuits and gravy" were really really disappointing... like a hamburger bun with flour water poured on them disappointing... like I consider it criminal that someone would do that to such a wonderful dish disappointing. The bacon was great and Shelly actually made the whole situation better by being really friendly. I'll throw in a star for each of those but I'll never walk in there again. Me and my boyfriend walked in for the first time and we were lost. Came to the hostess stand and was shown our table. All the servers had passed us at least 5 times within 5 minutes and no one greeted us or offered water. We've been waiting for 10 almost 15 minutes before our server noticed us. It being our first time there we didn't know the menu was in a form of a newspaper we waited patiently to be to be asked what we wanted. Our server had no type of customer service and gave us attitude when we asked for more time. We noticed another couple coming in and seconds after they sat down they were greeted and asked what they wanted from the same server we had. Everyone was lighter skinned then us so you couldn't miss us sitting and waiting. We ended up leaving due to the horrible service we experienced. read more

Food is ok, atmosphere so-so, friendly staff but I HATE when ladies call me "hon", "sweetie", etc.

Phone number didn't work like the phone was unplugged from the wall. . The hostess walked away before anyone was seated. Asked for a coffee and it came out after the food. I hate leaving reviews but this place is ran by high schoolers that don't give a sh*t. Just don't go here. read more

It's like The Country Bear Jamboree up in here, but with a welcoming case of beautiful baked goods. Fun for the kiddos, good theme schtick for advertising, but for me, breakfast - and breakfast alone - is why you come here. A few highlights: - Chunks of REAL red potatoes, sauteed with onions, green peppers, etc. make up their Country Potatoes. (This is not out of a Sysco bag.) - Good coffee. Not great coffee, but hey, it's a diner. So, good diner coffee. - Chicken Apple Sausage: so yummy, you'll want to slap Johnny Appleseed's Mom. - Huge 3-egg omelettes with great ingredient choices. Plenty of mention has been made of their Sweet Cream Pancakes. I found them way too sweet. I'm sure this appeals to most people who can appreciate the intense sweet, but not I. I want my pancakes to taste like pancakes, not a sweet roll. I now opt for their Seven-Grain Granola cakes. Hubby orders the Turkey Dinner, no matter what time of day we're here. He says it's "awesome," which, for him, is a whole lotta description of delicious. It's piled on the plate, looks like Thanksgiving, and his plate is licked clean within 6 minutes. He's a big fan. They offer a wide menu with lots of selection (5 different varieties of sausage, people!). Creative omelette choices, smaller portion options, Bacon Benedict, and something called The Volcano! Everything is reasonably priced, so you can bring the fam. We've been on Saturday and Sunday, early and late for the breakfast hour, and never waited longer than 10 minutes to be seated. We've never had inadequate or subpar service, either. Coffee is refilled regularly, delicious food is delivered promptly to our table, and we haven't been made to wait extensively for anything. It's always been a pleasure for us at Black Bear, and I always look forward to going back. read more

Why 5 stars you might ask? Well I've thought about this review for a while now and I think Black Bear is a solid 4 stars. Why five?...Sweet Cream Buttermilk pancakes! Any food that I start to crave I have to give the restaurant that prepares said food 5 stars. I really like there breakfast. In fact, I've probably been over 10 ten times and have only order off the dinner menu once (which was great tri-tip btw). Back to breakfast. What I love about Black Bear is the variety. You can basically get whatever combo you want. The biscuits and Gravy are good, The Grizz is good, The Bigfoot good, Southern scramble good, The Works omelet good. Now pair any of the mentioned with the pancakes and you have awesome. Portions are huge and they don't mind sharing or substitutions (sometimes additional charges apply). Servers have always been great keeping my drink full. I always leave with a full belly and a smile...so far. read more

This restaurant is like a slightly pricier Village Inn with a better interior designer. I had the New York steak with fries. They brought out the wrong steak (it was supposed to have onions on it) but I didn't realize that till I was halfway done eating it. I was hungry, okay? Don't judge me. Also I could only eat half of the steak because the other half was gristle and fat. Ew. The fries were pretty tasty, with some kind of seasoning. There was also a side dish of green beans with a small piece of bacon on top. I don't like bacon and thus did not trust the beans. These went uneaten. Husband had the bacon wrapped chicken covered in hollandaise sauce and mashed potatoes with country gravy. The hollandaise sauce tasted like it was from a powder mix, and the potatoes had a suspiciously "instant" aftertaste. I am a deep and abiding enemy of instant potatoes and thus always on my guard against them. They are a blasphemy against potatoes. Husband ate the untrustworthy green beans with no comment. Weirdo. If you order salad with Ranch dressing, be aware that the dressing has bacon bits floating in it. They are not delicious bacon bits, they are soggy and taste somewhat of the Plague. I do not recommend the Ranch dressing. The highlight of the meal was the cornbread muffin. Not too crumbly, not too sweet, and the right amount of delicious. We probably won't visit this place again. The quality of the food for the price was just not worth it. But if you're starving, by all means, try it out. In my opinion, Johanna's Kitchen (also located in Sandy) is much tastier, higher quality, and about the same price. read more

Not much to complain about here. After searching yelp, looking for somewhere to eat before going to a movie, we decided on Black Bear Diner. I had only heard of this place a couple of times before, but we decided to give it a try. The decor was TACKY, but I absolutely LOVED it. It feels like you're just a few minutes away and up the canyon. Adorned with pictures of bears and bear paraphernalia alike, they have certainly mastered the theme on this one. Props are due especially to the jukebox in the entryway. It sets you back a few years, and it all just felt simple and easy. I love that in a restaurant. Food wise, it was decent. Nothing out of this world, but it has a great selection with all types of diner food. And breakfast all day? That's a win win situation for people looking for both good breakfast and a hearty dinner. Serving sizes were large and reasonably priced. Service was on point as well. Our waitress made a couple mistakes, but was quick to correct them without any attitude. She was very professional and hospitable. Again adding points to the relaxation scale. So nothing revolutionary about this place food wise. But I really like it, it's cute and I imagine it would be a fun place to go during the winter and cozy up. (I noticed they have hot chocolate--hell ya) Last but certainly not least- the mural on the outside wall of the bears skiing? epic. read more

I recently ate breakfast at Black Bear Diner with coworkers. I had never been before and heard mixed reviews. I agree with another reviewer - that the decor is nothing short of tacky. Who cares? It feeds into the diner appeal. I ordered the 7-grain Granola Nut Cakes with a side of bacon. The nut cakes are just pancakes with, count them, SEVEN different nuts and grains mixed into the batter. They were good but the portions are completely ridiculous. I can't imagine how much $ they could save in serving plates that a normal person can actually, fully consume. Their prices are really affordable so I'm sure most people love that they feel they got their money's worth. I also tried and loved their house habanero sauce. Delicious! Next time I know to have them just cut the serving size by at least half. read more

I had an absolutely amazing experience. I had visited the small diner with friends in the summer and we promised to never return, let's just say we walked out. My husband urged me to give it a try as he had heard great things about the omelets, i gave in. Our waitress's name was Alex. She was absolutely charming and inviting. It made our time during the hectic rush enjoyable as she put us at ease, she took care of us as if we were old friends. I had the prime rib with a baked potato and green beans. The prime rib is EXCELLENT i recommend it. The only thing i don't suggest is the green beans, although they came with bacon, they tasted like they came right out of a can. Between the awesome customer service and the excellent prime rib, they have won my business. read more
