We came here for a late breakfast on Thanksgiving & everything was great! The menu was limited due to it being a holiday so my husband ended up having the country fried steak with scrambled eggs whites & hash brown potatoes. Everything was delish with his breakfast with the only complaint being that it was just so much food & they cooked the hash browns perfectly! I had the veggie egg white omelette with the home fried potatoes & all was delish with mine as well, so much food that I ended up eating half of my omelette! We've been to another location & there was definitely a noticeable difference in a positive way. The cook definitely took pride in what he was sending out because it was obvious in the plating of the food. Our server was very attentive in taking care of us even though it was getting ready to be a shift change! We're always a little skeptical in trying a sister location if we've become used to our go to spot but we're glad that we tried out the Diner in Laveen! This was my first time at this location, it was steadily busy and seemed they were a little under staffed but we were seated pretty quickly and our waitress checked in with us frequently. Coffee was hot, and some coffees aren't so good and watered down not the case here at least not to me. I ordered the little volcano, my husband ordered French toast, my son a chorizo burrito. We all enjoyed our plates. I also ordered a side of grits which I enjoyed. I wasn't aware that they had Fish Fry Fridays so we will definitely be going back for that. Menu describes cajun seasoning, but it lacked any noticeable seasoning in general. This was my first time at Black Bear Diner. They sent me an email for a free birthday breakfast, the bears choice, so why not finally try it out? I ordered the bears choice with bacon and French toast and ordered a side of hash-browns. My daughter chose the cubs choice breakfast off the kids menu and my friend ordered the vegetarian omelette. The food was tasty, well seasoned, cooked to our asking and nice and hot when it arrived. Their menu is huge and they offer such a wide variety of items that I knew I'd want to come back and try more in the future. Plus, they service breakfast all day . The seating was comfortable and the tables were nice and clean. Where our visit left me giving 4 instead of 5 stars, was the service. Our waitress was not very friendly and almost seemed bothered by having to serve us. I'm not sure if it was an off day for her but hopefully she has better days. I certainly didn't let it ruin my day and I look forward to trying out Black Bear Diner again soon. read more

As a regular patron of this specific Big Bear Diner location, we're lucky to have them in the 'hood. With the exception with their extremely busy hours (the lines can be an hour or more long) the meals are consistent, offerings generous, taste delish, atmosphere terrific and the service has always been fab! We've enjoyed on many occasions their Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner menus. Whether the Big Foot Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs to a really, really good Omelets or a variety of terrific Benedicts, incredible lunch sandwiches like their array of Specialty Burgers to Patty Melts or Club sandwiches, and a tasty Meatloaf, the Tri-Tips or Pot Roast, you can't go wrong - not to mention their moderate prices. A HUGH DISAPPOINTMENT !!! I am a big fan of BBD and eat breakfast there several times a month. Usually at the Tempe location. This is my fist time to this Laveen location (and last time). My standard is the Bears Choice. Today: Service was extremely slow. I was seated for 10 minutes before the waitress came to the table. She lacked a warm, friendly approach the entire visit. She was also slow with coffee refills. Scrambled eggs were over cooked and dry. Pancakes had a hard outside shell and were dry. This is most upsetting since I love their sweet cream pancakes. Potatoes were raw and not thoroughly cooked. Omelette was not fully cooked and extremely oily/greasy. I will continue to frequent the Tempe location but not this one! read more

First time at this Black Bear. We arrived for brunch on a Saturday and it was a 25 min wait. We sat outside on a crisp January morning (in the sun) on one of the many wood benches. We were seated in 16 mins. Our server, however, didn't greet us for about 10 mins. She then took our orders. My wife got a cup of decaf while I got iced tea to drink and for brunch, she ordered the Chicken Sausage Scramble whilst I got the Chicken Fried Steak Benedict. In all, it came to $37.20 plus tip. Our meal arrived in 8 mins. The Scramble was big, hot and savory. All of the ingredients were fresh and she enjoyed it. The hash browns were disappointing. They were severely undercooked, with little browning at all. My Benedict came with potatoes, fresh fruit and hollandaise sauce over two poached eggs. A thick cut, breaded cutlet lay on an English muffin, followed by the poached eggs, then hollandaise. The eggs were odd: one of as cooked perfectly and the other was nearly hard boiled. I assumed that they were precooked and I got a mixed batch. The skillet potatoes were also severely undercooked. They were still firm, plus there was no browning. Went in there for Christmas Day dinner. The staff was truly working their tails off and bless their hearts for being so courteous and generous. Got a very delicious omelette with all the Fixins along with a fruit cup. Finished off with a candy cane chocolate cream pie which some of the proceeds of that purchase went to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The menu was kept simple and our server Dezarey was awesome. The lady I talked to was most pleasant and the general manager called me back to confirm and left me his number. I called the morning of to confirm we were coming. When we arrived about 15 minutes early, everything was already nicely set up and they seated us right away and took our orders as soon as everyone arrived. It went very smoothly. The food was delicious and arrived quickly. The service was super and one of the waitresses was the lady I spoke with when I made the reservation - very professionally done. I usually have a good experience at Black Bear Diner but today didn't hit the spot. The food took a little while to arrive and when it did we didn't receive any silverware. The waiter said he'd bring some but I think he forgot. We just stared at the food till a different waiter brought us the silverware. I have been here several times and each time I have not been disappointed. The food does come a little under seasoned, but that hasn't bothered us since we're hot sauce lovers . We Just recently ordered pick up for breakfast and the portions were the same size as dining in the restaurant. ( other restaurants I've noticed for breakfast pick up tend to come in smaller portions) I ordered the Shasta Scramble with hashbrowns , lower calorie and more veggies .
