Great breakfast food, hearty meal, and plenty left over. The service was great, Jody was our server and she was very nice. (I apologize if I misspelled your name) This was our first time here and if I had to describe the food and atmosphere, I would compare it too Cracker Barrel. Would definitely come back, and although I didn't eat anything off the lunch/ dinner menu, the pictures of some for the plates looked good. read more

We go there for breakfast here a couple times a month. They have a classic Benedict which is very good. Today we arrived about 9:15 am. I ordered my favorite classic Benedict. It was excellent flavor but the poached eggs were cooked so long that they had the consistency of hard boiled eggs, After struggling to get someone's attention, they did graciously offer to replace the eggs, Meantime my wife is slowly eating her breakfast waiting for me to get redone eggs. Just after I got my redone eggs, the host comes to our table to ask us to get up, so he can move our table. In 50 years of dining out, I never been asked to get up from my table while eating so we were of course bewildered by the request. After rudely repeating his request for us to get out of our chairs so he could move our table. He proceeded to move our table about four feet so he could accommodate a party of six by putting two other tables together behind us. When I grumbled about the inconvenience, he said he would discount our check. A few moments later while I was finally able to set my redone eggs, a waitress began picking up my plate while I was still finishing the redone eggs. that I couldn't . It took me three tries of saying I am not done to make her understand I wasn't finished with my breakfast. When the check arrived while I was still eating I noticed there was no discount. I asked the waitress about the discount, she snarked, "what discount?" I told her it was the host. She ignored means walked away. I saw the host standing by the register so I approached him to ask about the discount. He continued speaking to one of the associates ignoring me. After several seconds of being ignored, I said ," excuse me." He finally turned to face me and I asked him about the discount he had promised. That's when he began a verbal battle with me. He told I could have said no "I won't move." I said you could have not asked. After a few more nasty comments back and forth he finally rang up our check without charging for my meal. Final result, I will go back to Black Bear because I enjoy their classic Benedict but if this host is there I will find another restaurant. So in summary, over cooked poached eggs, get up from our breakfast so he could move our table, take my plate before I am done, ignore me as a customer and then imply I was the problem . How many strikes does one bad host get before he strikes out. read more

If you just want some simple comfort food with gigantic servings, this is the place for you. This particular location employs some of the nicest people. The service is always excellent, we're never wanting for anything. The food is your basic American fare with breakfast served all day. Yeah, hash browns are unique. They use large shreds. My favorites are the Cobb salad and Bob's big bear burger. The chili is a must try. Everything I've ever ordered from their kitchen is well seasoned and cooked properly. I'm also happy they just started serving beer and wine too. Maybe a little too happy but whatever, it's all good. read more

When you walk in they seat you, when you're checking out they give you the receipt and you pay before you walk out. There custom sauces are amazing! We even purchased the habanero sauce when checking out. This place had great service and food. The restaurant was a little dirty like the AC vents and one of our cups had markings on it that wasn't cleaned so the waitress got us a new cup. It was warm when eating. Like they barely had the AC running. There was a fly flying around and around the booth windows were dirty. I'm a clean freak so any dirt does bother me when dining out. The food Portions are generous and i definitely suggest the onion rings over the fries! I'd definitely get food to go next time! Coffee was good too! read more

In town for business and stopped by for breakfast. Ordered two eggs scrambled with what was supposed to be hash browns. These were the absolute worst I have ever had, I thought I would break a tooth when I tried them. Other than that the service was very good and the eggs and bacon were just a little above average. For the prices this establishment charges all items should be of the best quality read more

Restaurant is very cute and homey. I came here on a Saturday morning and was sat immediately with a 5 top. The menu selection is also great. However, I had one major issue with this establishment. I ordered a meat lovers omelette (which was pretty bland) that came with one of their famous biscuits. I was very excited to try it until I took a piece off of the top of the biscuit and found MOLD inside. Appetite immediately ruined. I got my servers attention and he was just as shocked as I was. He told the chef and came back with the message that they were made fresh in the morning and what I saw was just burnt ends from the pan. As if burnt ends could end up INSIDE of a biscuit that had no burning around the outside. I guess burnt ends also have a green tint to them lol. Surprisingly, my boyfriends biscuit seemed fine. Maybe he was just lucky enough to get one of the "fresh" biscuits. Our server kindly still took my meal off of our bill and said he didn't feel like arguing with his chef. Needless to say, I will not be returning. Black Bear Diner head chef - do better please. read more

First off, great customer service by your green hair front person didn't catch their name, who sat me promptly and checked out a long line quickly! Priscilla, my server, was on top of her section and kept my coffee and water filled! Bravo! It's hard to do during lunch rush! Black Bear style is there, Pacific West Coast, all the way in style, feel, and ambiance! The food is dinner food. Good dinner food. Solid dinner food. A review is not just about food! Bad cold food. Bad service. Brought me food I specifically said DO NOT BRING. I guess they decided they did not like what I wanted and decided to force something that looked like chunky dog vomit & 4 or 6 pieces of bread (I also told the waitress NO BREAD) Pancakes were so cold we couldnt even spread butter on them - butter should melt on hot pancakes. Manager got angry when we complained and we got up and went to Dennys. Total waste of time. Warning if you do go there - never try the "corned beef hash". Its dust-dry shredded barely seasoned old beef (i think) and dry diced potato. All cold. Nasty stuff. I ordered it so I tried it and had to drink water so I could chew & swallow it. read more

I went there before my class started, and it was a very good way to start a day. This was my first visit since the pandemic, but still surprised to see not a lot of customers. I am very disappointed in my meal I received. There have been 3 separate occasions where I asked for shell eggs scrambled and it was never correct. Well Friday took the cake for me. Went today for a late lunch. 3 of us. My waffle came out burnt. Sent it back I immediately got a replacement - looked like it was sitting in the back a while - bottom was soggy. Called a manager over - got a waffle made fresh. At the end of our meal - my son noticed he had the spout from the soda machine in his glass! Needless to say quality is horrible. After a morning of fishing and not catching much, I was ready for some grub. We were in the area and decided to pop in. They have a check in system so you give them your phone number and they put you on the waitlist. We didn't have to wait long, but I will say there isn't a lot of waiting room so if it's packed - you'll likely want to wait outside. Their menu is printed like a newspaper which is unique. After looking over the menu, we decided The Volcano had a little bit of everything we wanted. My boyfriend got the volcano with no breakfast sausage, sub for extra bacon instead. I really love waffles, so I ordered the volcano with a waffle ($3.99 up-charge). We also ordered a hot chocolate and bottomless hot coffee. My boyfriend thought the hot chocolate was very sweet and would not get it again. I think the coffee was decent, but nothing super magical there either. Now on to the food. I will just say that if you are a waffle lover - specifically the waffles that have bite and texture to them - this ain't the place for that. The waffle I had tasted like a thick pancake that was shaped like a waffle. I didn't really enjoy that and probably would have stuck to the pancakes that come with the volcano considering they charge extra to get the waffle instead. Bacon was okay as well, I ordered it extra crispy but I think because they are thick cut bacon - it didn't come out as crispy. My favorite was the breakfast sausage. I thought their breakfast sausage was very flavorful and I would definitely get it again. They also have habanero hot sauce at the table for eggs, etc. and I really liked that as well. Overall I would come again, but would probably try another menu item instead. It's a decent breakfast spot and definitely better than your average iHop. I hope to update this review in the future once I narrow down something I like more on the menu. read more

Come hungry, leave happy! COVID: Staff we're wearing masks at all times, back of house staff were wearing masks and gloves. We got the Original ScramBowl and Joe's Hobo omelette that was both hearty and filling, I just wish that there was more egg rather than potato. The value for the amount of food you get is good. First time coming to this place and won't be the last. The decor makes you feel like your visiting relatives in the countryside and has a welcoming feel. The food was really good portions as well as taste being there. Big plus that they sell breakfast all day because who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?! I love this place! All day breakfast is a winner for me. Add to that a really good breakfast and I'm in heaven. Now, you don't have to eat breakfast because the menu has many other choices too. Now that I have been to Black Bear three times I think I am convinced this place is really good. They have a bar like a traditional dinner that usually has an opening or three. Otherwise you may have to wait 20-30 minutes for a table. Menus are all newspaper stile with historical news from Katy or something like that. So you can bide time by reading that instead of playing with your phone. Nice. I love their corned beef hash and their eggs Benedict. Both seem to be made from scratch. Their biscuits are humongous. My family and I visited this neat place on a friday night. It was pretty busy but we were greeted right away and sat within a few moments. They seem to have their stuff together! Our waitress was EMILY. She was awesome. She knew her stuff! My dad got the chicken fried steak, I ordered the taco salad and my mom ordered the chicken avocado club. The chicken fried steak was pretty amazing. My taco salad was pretty good as well (nothing speacial). It was overall a good salad. The reason why I give this place a 4 star was because of the chicken that was served. I believe my moms club and my salad had the same chicken. It tasted like a frozen chicken patties. Couldnt eat much of it. Overall we loved the ambience of this restaurant.
