I don't ask for much when I go out to eat. A clean table, clean silverware, food cooked properly... The basics. This location couldn't even do that right. I sat down to a table sticky with syrup. I had to request it be cleaned and then clean my arms and phone. I then ordered the tri tip with a salad, medium rare. When I unwrapped my silverware it was stuck to the napkin as it was also covered in syrup. The meal came (not the salad) and I saw my dried out, well done slices of beef. Once my salad finally arrived, I sent the meal back requesting it be cooked as ordered. The manager came by (super nice woman) and apologized. The waitress then came back (also a total sweetheart) and apologized, stating the meal would be comped. I explained that wasn't necessary but she insisted. Then the new meal came. It certainly wasn't overcooked this time. In fact, it wasn't cooked. It was lightly seared on the outside but raw and cold inside. We came here for breakfast on a weekday morning and it was steady but not overly busy. We were seated quickly and our food came out fast too. Our server was excellent, very friendly and attentive. Portions are big, even for the kids meals. I ordered the classic French toast and would say to skip that. It was soggy and mostly tasted like plain eggs. The texture and taste just wasn't it. I ended up sharing my husband's pancakes instead and those were really good. I tried the hash browns that came with my husband's meal and the hash browns tasted weird too so I'd also recommend skipping that. The menu is pretty big with lots of options and prices are standard. Food was okay overall. I would rate it a 3.5. I didn't like that the food wasn't brought out at the same time for everyone at the table. I had to wait while others were already eating. I noticed the same issue at other tables as well. I also understand. The French toast was okay... crusted on one side and only lightly browned. I prefer my eggs with the cheese fully melted. The chicken sausage had great flavor but was very chewy. The biscuits were really big, heavy and tasty... I could barely finish half of one, and they give two per order. The ambience was clean and welcoming. The server was okay... she forgot my orange juice however when I politely reminded her, she remembered right away. I needed something to wash the biscuit down. This place is hit or miss, unfortunately more miss now with the new management. Zane in at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon, sat at the counter. Servers had to decide who was going to wait on me first, then finally took my drink order. I asked them to give me some time to decide what I wanted. Decided what I wanted, then waited, waited some more, then a bit longer...in the meanwhile, my server was pretty worried about the kitchen doing something with her bucket, the manager was worried how long the baked potato would take, then my server finally asked if I was ready or if someone else already took my order??? I said I was ready and no one had taken my order, then she left to run out food. Couldn't tell you how the food was, I never got anything other than a drink! I moved to Katy about 2 1/2 years ago and this place has been on my to try list since then. On a random weekend, a friend of mine came to visit and we brought her and her daughter here and the food was so freaking good. I love their blackberry? Some kind of berry lemonade. I know I'm not saying the name right.. regardless it's freaking delicious. I love teddy bears, and this place is so campy and full of bears and has so many adorable gift shop items to buy like blankets and house shoes and sweaters and hoodies. There's also a giant dessert/ pie area. I'm not entirely sure if they make them in house but they look absolutely scrumptious. And can't wait to try them. The staff here is so kind and so engaging and so wonderful. My mom got to try this place with me as she brought me a couple days after I had surgery. I deserve to treat myself and also wanted some comfort food. The biscuits here are as big as your face and taste so good. Slather on a bunch of butter and grape jelly and you are set ! I've have yet to try any of the dinner items here but I do know they're open pretty late, which is awesome because I work late. The best place ever! Came here on a Sunday at 11 am. People wait listed. 30 minute wait turned into 10 minutes. Morgan was our waitress. We ordered scrambled eggs, spicy sausage and Bear claw something. The spicy sausage was amazing! Why can't every restaurant offer this? The bear claw is a huge pastry with blue berry filling. I hope you can find a nice picture in their website because I wiped my plate clean. Love their backwoods ambiance with bear theme. Reminded us of northern Minnesota where used to call God's country. We decided to try this gem for Christmas lunch and I am so happy we did. They had a special holiday menu along with their normal menu. We started with some biscuits and holy cow!! They were so good and huge! I can't even find the words to describe how good they were. Fluffy and hefty. They were very tasty, fluffy and not light at all. I could have eaten these and nothing else. These are a must try. My friend had a chicken wrap and it was full. It had a hefty amount of meat on it and tons of veggies. This also came with fresh fries that were hot and very good. I would highly recommend this sandwich. I had a breakfast special. Eggs, ham steak, French toast and hash browns. Wow! Just wow! Eggs were super fresh and soft. Han steak was perfection. Hash browns were so fresh and not like a frozen hash brown. I loved them! Loved them!! The French toast was super tasty and fresh with perfect amount of syrup! What a great breakfast. Went with hubs for a late weeknight dinner. Surprisingly fairly busy. I had the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad sub cheddar for the blue cheese, ranch on side. Hubs had med-rare tri tip (prime rib only available weekends). Right after food came out, waitress brought a complementary blueberry pancake--delicious (we each had a couple bites & took remaining home for breakfast). Hubs was disappointed with his tri tip, but loved his sides and I let him eat off my salad. My salad while fresh & perfect with chicken tenders crispy & juicy, I had to laugh that I got my money's worth in onions--my Dad's favorite salad. Luckily it was Cobb, so they were pretty much lined up in a row on top. I should have requested a container for the 1/3 cup of chopped onions--my prep would be done for a future meal . The 10-15 min wait was not bad on a late Saturday morning at approximately 11:30 AM. I have to say I was a little disappointed the last two times I dined at this location. This time, the French Toast was cold and the bread was dry as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for somebody to pick it up. I was not offered butter, just a small cup of syrup. I ordered a side of 4 strips of crispy bacon. The bacon was so crisp, it bordered on burnt. The coffee was good. I've visited a Black Bear Diner a long time ago back in California. When I was visiting Katy, Tx, I was so excited to see there was a location nearby! I'm obsessed with their hot sauces. We had already eaten elsewhere but I wanted to pick up some of their hot sauce to bring back home. The shop is pretty small and very tight. There's limited clothing to choose from but there are a ton of stuffed bears. I did find a gift box of their 4 hot sauce types but it was pretty expensive at $40. $10 a bottle isn't terrible (but not exactly cheap either). The food here is really good! At first I thought it would be super basic and bland...I WAS WRONG. The only thing that met that expectation was their grits. Everything else you see in the photos were seasoned up right! Now...I took off 2 stars because of their lack of cleanliness! Omgggg, we sat down and a puff of dust shot from my seat. The thing that got me was that I'm not sure they've dusted here since pre-Covid. You can literally see the thick layer of dust/dirt on the surfaces where you eat. It's a semi big turnoff. I have always loved his place since it opened. Breakfast are big, and most of the time delicious. We had the chicken fried steak omelette, and Denver omelette. Had browns were raw and uncooked. For all four of us. That just put a damper on all the meals. Manager was kind to make new ones. But, brought out burned hash browns. ‍ So, she deducted a $ fog them. The experience of eating along with omelette was ruined. The waiter never brought our water, or checked on us. Just once to bring more coffee, but only because we asked another waiter. So, I ordered orange juice, that got spilled. Not kidding. We all have our so do days. But, we get out of our homes to have someone else do the cooking and service. Sad to say...
