I was a little hesitant to try this place due to the previous reviews I'd seen, but they honestly did not disappoint. I ordered The Grizz for takeout. It came with 3 meats, 3 eggs your way, potatoes and 2 pancakes. SOOO GOOD. The only reason I have this 4/5 stars is because the eggs were a little weird tasting in my opinion; however, the other items hit the spot !! The service was fantastic! I ordered my food over the phone and was instructed that it would be ready in about 10-15 minutes. Sure enough, once I arrived, my order was ready and the checkout was smooth and quick. Today I went to Black Bear dinner and has such an amazing experience. My boy Ozzy was very nice. He fought off a bear with one hand and turned him into a pancake that he gave to us. Bro got folded like an omelette. The bear was really good and we felt his blood running through our veins. Our last visit was memorable. But nit in a good way. We have always had a good experience before. Our mothers day breakfast was bad. My brisket has cane out cold and brisket seemed dried out. My wifes breakfast was also not hot. There were 9 people in our party. 3/4 of our food was cold. My son in law had a waffle that was dark brown. And un eatable. Two of my grandaughters asked for crispy bacon. It was limp and barely warm when it arrived. This visit will seriously affect us coming again. read more

service was horrible, i've worked in restaurants as every position for years and have never seen worse service. first they ignored us when we walked in and had to approach them. 3 people stared at us that all worked there and didn't say anything. second our server offered us drinks to try then when we asked for said drinks she then informed us they were out of those drinks... third our server was rude and spilled coffee on the floor while she was taking our order like slowly dripping a lot of coffee on the ground. i just saw her making a lot of bad looks at all of her tables and didn't seem like she wanted to be there which is understandable being a server but made me feel uncomfortable. like i was an inconvenience to be there.. Spotty silverware and a chipped plastic tumbler started off my visit. I ordered iced tea and when it arrived I took a sip. It was horrible. It was dark like it had been sitting around too long. I have to say the decor is really fun with all the funny bears everywhere. The breakfast is excellent except everyone's bacon was burned. It was like eating a bacon flavored stick. They brought us more but it was almost as bad. Sadly it gets even worse. We have been 5 times and the food just seems to get worse. It comes out just slightly warm with cold centers in the mash potatoes. As mentioned by others the roast beef tastes bad, kind of sour covered in a bland and barely warm gravy. I know some of their food is frozen, but it tastes like it's been frozen too long and tastes stale. Except for breakfast we have not had a good meal with any item we have tried on their menu. The waiters and service is excellent and the decorations are cute so we have continued to return every few months hoping things have changed. But I am afraid they have not. Too bad. First, the wait time is understandable (20 minutes) but when we went to sit down it was a table for 4 people we were a party of 5 and the table barely fit. The lady was really rude and very disrespectful even when we asked for a bigger table ignoring us the first 2 times, and when she finally told us that the wait time was 45 minutes she was rude about it. We sat down and waited another 10 minutes for our server to get our drink order, 15 minutes passed before our drinks got there, another 25 for our order to be out in. A table with a bigger party 7 people sat down after us and got everything way before us. The food was okay but definitely not worth the wait and service. read more

Took my folks here as they were visiting. Trying new places is always a challenge, but they loved this place. I got the "Pumpkin Pancakes". It's basically their usual pancakes with Pumpkin spice drizzle on it. They were pretty fluffy and yummy. They got some different hot sauces to try as well. I put some on my eggs. Great coffee as well. When you're old, great coffee is important. If it sucks, it throws off the entire meal. Place was busy but service still kicked ass. read more

overall 2 1/2 to 3 stars for food and service... first time trying this chain, casual interior, varied menu, breakfast available all day, looks like it would be good for families. went with friends around 6 after a sunday afternoon texans game. 2 of us opted for dinner: turkey with gravy, cranberries and 2 sides plus soup or salad. 1 opted for breakfast, the 2-2-2 with cinnamon french toast substitution. things got off to a rocky start with our server. 3 people, 4 drinks - i wanted tea and water, and it took 3 trips to our table to get the 4 drinks. forgot 1 tea, no ice in a soda. server brought the tea and soda -but this time she brought the wrong type of soda. they were out if soup, so i decided to try the chili, asked for green beans and mashed taters & gravy for sides. turkey plates came out looking like they were wednesday's lunch plate at the school cafeteria. nice big slices of turkey though, and it was pretty good. but the turkey gravy on top tasted bad - like in the gone bad sense. the mashers were topped with gelatinous dark brown -from a mix -gravy and had lumps of not done potato throughout. had to ask for cranberries. the green beans were very good - best thing i had. very flavorful. "chili" was 90% beans, it tasted ok, but wasnt really chili. the gal who got the breakfast plate had to return it because she got reg french toast instead of the cinnamon roll french toast she asked for. but she quickly devoured the redo &really liked the cinnamon roll french toast - so maybe breakfast was the way to go. i paid $24 for my plate, $1.50 upgrade for chili and tea plus tax & tip. i felt like i could have gotten a MUCH better meal for that price. i wouldnt return here given a choice, too many great dining spots in houston to settle for sub-par cafeteia food. read more

I've been here twice and both times haven't disappointed. Food: I had The Grizz which comes with 2 pancakes, 3 meats, and my choice of grits. I love grits and I didn't need to add anything. SUGAR DOES NOT GO IN GRITS FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!! Lol. The grits were just right I didn't need to add any salt (for me). Pancakes are fluffy and a nice size. You really don't need more than 2. I didn't order the omelette but it was his second time getting the same thing and both times he loved it. Nothing special about the chicken tenders. You can't mess those up. Chicken tenders were as expected. Fries were fresh and crispy. So...if you want a good hearty breakfast stop here for a bite to eat. The Bear within you will leave here full. read more

We go there for breakfast here a couple times a month. They have a classic Benedict which is very good. Today we arrived about 9:15 am. I ordered my favorite classic Benedict. It was excellent flavor but the poached eggs were cooked so long that they had the consistency of hard boiled eggs, After struggling to get someone's attention, they did graciously offer to replace the eggs, Meantime my wife is slowly eating her breakfast waiting for me to get redone eggs. Just after I got my redone eggs, the host comes to our table to ask us to get up, so he can move our table. In 50 years of dining out, I never been asked to get up from my table while eating so we were of course bewildered by the request. After rudely repeating his request for us to get out of our chairs so he could move our table. He proceeded to move our table about four feet so he could accommodate a party of six by putting two other tables together behind us. When I grumbled about the inconvenience, he said he would discount our check. A few moments later while I was finally able to set my redone eggs, a waitress began picking up my plate while I was still finishing the redone eggs. that I couldn't . It took me three tries of saying I am not done to make her understand I wasn't finished with my breakfast. When the check arrived while I was still eating I noticed there was no discount. I asked the waitress about the discount, she snarked, "what discount?" I told her it was the host. She ignored means walked away. I saw the host standing by the register so I approached him to ask about the discount. He continued speaking to one of the associates ignoring me. After several seconds of being ignored, I said ," excuse me." He finally turned to face me and I asked him about the discount he had promised. That's when he began a verbal battle with me. He told I could have said no "I won't move." I said you could have not asked. After a few more nasty comments back and forth he finally rang up our check without charging for my meal. Final result, I will go back to Black Bear because I enjoy their classic Benedict but if this host is there I will find another restaurant. So in summary, over cooked poached eggs, get up from our breakfast so he could move our table, take my plate before I am done, ignore me as a customer and then imply I was the problem . When you walk in they seat you, when you're checking out they give you the receipt and you pay before you walk out. There custom sauces are amazing! We even purchased the habanero sauce when checking out. This place had great service and food. The restaurant was a little dirty like the AC vents and one of our cups had markings on it that wasn't cleaned so the waitress got us a new cup. It was warm when eating. Like they barely had the AC running. There was a fly flying around and around the booth windows were dirty. I'm a clean freak so any dirt does bother me when dining out. Restaurant is very cute and homey. I came here on a Saturday morning and was sat immediately with a 5 top. The menu selection is also great. However, I had one major issue with this establishment. I ordered a meat lovers omelette (which was pretty bland) that came with one of their famous biscuits. I was very excited to try it until I took a piece off of the top of the biscuit and found MOLD inside. Appetite immediately ruined. I got my servers attention and he was just as shocked as I was. He told the chef and came back with the message that they were made fresh in the morning and what I saw was just burnt ends from the pan. As if burnt ends could end up INSIDE of a biscuit that had no burning around the outside. I guess burnt ends also have a green tint to them lol. Surprisingly, my boyfriends biscuit seemed fine. Maybe he was just lucky enough to get one of the "fresh" biscuits. Our server kindly still took my meal off of our bill and said he didn't feel like arguing with his chef. Priscilla, my server, was on top of her section and kept my coffee and water filled! Bravo! It's hard to do during lunch rush! If you just want some simple comfort food with gigantic servings, this is the place for you. This particular location employs some of the nicest people. The service is always excellent, we're never wanting for anything. The food is your basic American fare with breakfast served all day. Yeah, hash browns are unique. They use large shreds. My favorites are the Cobb salad and Bob's big bear burger. The chili is a must try. Everything I've ever ordered from their kitchen is well seasoned and cooked properly.
