Visited April 15th..see receipt. This location is in Chico and has indoor and outside seating. Great location within the Chico Mall ( marketplace ) Stopped in for a late breakfast after shopping at the mall. I had the lighter breakfast with pancakes and 2 thick cut bacon slices and a scrambled egg. I really liked the bacon as it was crispy as ordered! Everything was really good! My friend got Joes hobo omelete with a ton of crispy hash browns. It also came with a biscuit and for 99 cents more you get the gravy on top. The portion was huge and everything was really good! Plenty of leftovers! They also have some yummy looking desserts and pies! They serve beer and wine as well as mimosas. It's cutely decorated with bears. Waitresses were friendly and order came out quickly ( thanks Monique)! I will definitely come back when in Chico!

OK, looks like I've been on a Black Bear Diner kick here a little bit. I was just at another location and had a great experience. I'm in Chico for a little bit and found there's a Black Bear here. The onion rings I was really impressed with last, so we decided to get a whole side order for around $8 bucks. It arrived before our entrees, of the patty melt and the bacon cheeseburger salad. I guess i was expecting a bug mound of onion rings with the full appetizer order, so I was a little underwhelmed with the portion, but it tasted good anyways. I found you can substitute say fries off a burger or sandwich for the onion rings no charge, which I find rare in restaurants that you can get onion rings no extra charge. I'll just get the onion rings that way next time. My patty melt was mos fab and actually cooked med rare as ordered! Hardly any place cooks as I order, normally you just get well done no matter how you order a burger. My friend's bacon cheeseburger salad was really good, that was my choice if I didn't get the patty melt! I'll still come to Black Bear Diners, I'll just get onion rings instead of fries. Service was fine for our visit as well.

Good food Big foot chicken fried steak- this meal you get to choose soup or salad, I chose salad. Then you get to choose 2 sides, I chose green beans and toast. it was a big steak and did take me a lot of bites. Was super nice and hot when it came out but cooled down pretty quickly. Knife that was given was really sharp. White gravy was white gravy, lacked flavor imo. It was an alright steak, took a lot of bites but wasnt as much as I expected. Salad- waiter will ask what dressing you want, from what I remember, he mentioned balsamic vinegar, thousand island and a few others. I chose thousand island, was surprisingly good ha ha. Maybe cause it came out first and I was slightly hungry, was refreshing and nice to snack on before the meal. Tomatoes were so good. And every other ingredient tasted really fresh. Garlic parmesan toast- this came with the big foot, was alright, toast is toast Green beans and bacon- also came with big foot, was pretty flavorful. Felt like eating the ingredients from a soup. The little soup at the bottom was super salty. Huckleberry ice cream- was alright. Quality was similar to store bought ice cream. With bits of ice. Not really what I'd expect from a restaurant. But I guess with such a cheap price, it makes sense. Definitely wasnt the highest quality. Didnt go to a restaurant to get store bought quality ice cream with ice. Like actually store bought better cause theres no ice. There was so much at the bottom. Nothing I cant chew through but not something you'd want in ice cream Vanilla ice cream- my friend got this and she said there wasnt as much ice as the huckleberry. To me, it also does look better than the huckleberry. Rueben sandwich- my friend got this and she said, "The garlic toast was great and I'm happy the waiter guy suggested using it as the bread for the sandwich" and "I wish there was more of the non-corned beef in the sandwich tho, but that's just my preference" Extra Theres a juke box Waiters nice We paid at the counter idk if its just cause we split the bill. Ambiance was really nice, comfy chairs and well decorated Nice place but idk if Im gonna crave to go back so 5/5

We ordered online. The chicken fried steak was not quite ready when I arrived. After a few minutes, the food was given to me and I quickly drove it back to the hotel. The chicken fried steak was an extremely thin hamburger patty that was breaded and then deep fried. The steak came with some gravy that did not help too much. It came with a baked potato and vegetables. The baked potato was probably the best part of the meal. Their breakfasts are much better than their dinners. No to the chicken fried steak.

Hobo omelette, and potatoes

Kind of hit and miss at this restaurant sometimes good sometimes not so good. Today the omelette was good potatoes were kind of undercooked and bland. Today Should have been an IHOP day. Service was good

Hobo omelette

Today's food, which I Received in a timely matter, was hot My waitress was friendly and attentive. Much improved over my last experience where half the items on my plate were cold, and the coffee was lukewarm. The service was very slow and it took about 45 minutes to get my order.

Wow! Wow. Just a terrible long wait. If you're in a rush, don't come here for lunch time. Thirty..... thirty plus minutes wait just for two simple dish.... Come on.... Super duper slow. Either they didn't have enough cook in the kitchen or they just slow for no odd reason. Food was good but when you're waiting so long just to eat, nope, the vibe isn't right anymore. Ham, sauce and bacon were perfectly cooked and delicious. Scrambled eggs were okay. Potatoes were alright, could've been a little crisper. About returning again- probably not.

Every location has adorable carved wood bears.

The new diner is welcomed. Food and service was good for a new crew. Prices are higher than I remember; $20 for many items, inflation?

(Make sure to ask one of the employees about the hanging coffee mugs!) What really stood out was the service. The servers worked together seamlessly, refilling drinks, topping off coffee, bringing requested extras, and checking in with guests. Definitely a well-oiled machine! As a solo diner, I had the opportunity to sit back and observe, and I was genuinely impressed. Every interaction seemed friendly, heartfelt, and professional. What a great combination! The restaurant itself is a sweet, unpretentious little diner. Pretty packed for a Tuesday morning, but I happened to arrive at just the right time and was seated without a wait. Coffee wasn't great but I did drink two cups so I probably shouldn't complain. :) On their menu, it states "We are proud of our large servings, so sharing a meal with an extra plate +.75. Half portions of omelettes and scrambles are available, price varies." Great option for me but pricewise, it's only $1.50 less. Something to consider. I ordered the Mexican Omelette, filled with green chiles, tomatoes, green onions, and Jack cheese, then topped with salsa and sour cream. The salsa was delicious and full of flavor, although a wee bit overpowering. It became the dominant flavor, and I found myself missing the green chiles and melty Jack cheese that I was looking forward to. That said, everything worked well together, and I'd absolutely order it again, just with the salsa on the side! Perfectly crispy hash browns and toasty English muffin rounded out this hearty breakfast. Delicious diner breakfast and incredible service!

We held the door for an elderly couple leaving as we entered, so for the sake of argument let's say we crossed their threshold at exactly 1:30 pm. "Hostess" ( college girl with messy hair under a baseball cap) immediately informs us they are CLOSED. No hello no greeting at all, just and abrupt , "We are closed." Huh. Sign says 2 pm?!!! She kinda shrugs us off with a parting comment, "we stop seating at 1:30." News to me, we've been coming here for five plus years and always between 1:30 and 2:00 pm. Never ever had a problem or had anyone tell us about this 1:30 pm seating rule. Ok. But I show her my phone. "it's 1:30 now" and she just shrugs and says sorry. Disappointed, we cruise over to The Farmers Skillet located a few miles away in Chico on Rio Lindo. We strolled in at 1:50 pm, noting they also close at 2 pm. I ask politely if we are too late even though our hostess already has two menus in her hand and a smile on her face. "Not at all," she exclaims and then says "Welcome". Service there was warm, and unhurried. The Roost could learn a lesson here. If your 24/7 policy is to stop serving half an hour prior to closing then it should be posted, and door locked maybe? I know Deja Vu (also in Chico, on the Esplanade) closes at 2 pm and they have the CLOSED sign up with door locked at 1:45 pm. We shan't be returning. Very disrespectful and unnecessary. IF in fact that IS the policy of this diner and not just the whim of a lazy student/hostess then we should still have been seated. It was 1:30 pm as we entered. Shame on management. Know your staff and make sure they are operating with YOUR agenda and priorities, not theirs.

I'm so glad I did because it did not disappoint! The cafe has a nice open and airy atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the coffee so much that I ordered another pour over to go. I also picked up an Oat Maple Leaf Latte and several pastries to bring back to my family. Everything was delicious, and my family enjoyed the treats as well. If I'm ever back in the area, Bidwell Perk will definitely be one of my go to places. Bidwell Perk absolutely nailed it. Everyone working there was genuinely friendly and provided excellent customer service. They clearly use high-quality beans, and as someone who drinks coffee black and is admittedly a bit of a coffee snob, that matters. I also grabbed a ginger snap cookie, and it was everything I hoped for: perfectly gingery without being overpowering, soft, and wonderfully chewy. We were only there briefly (mostly due to the prompt service) since we were just passing through on our way home, but if we'd had more time, I would've happily lingered and enjoyed the space. I'll definitely stop here again the next time I'm in the area.

Close to 10 minutes later, my waitress came by to take my order. I went to the restroom and returned to find my water missing but my coffee was still there. Food arrived fairly quickly. The hash browns were completely overcooked with no yellow potatoes at all, everything was beyond crispy brown. The toast was cold and /or stale. Never saw my waitress after placing my order. Had to flag down some other employee for a box for my sausage and jalapeno scramble and my check. Considering the amount of employees in this place, the service was terrible. No one was rude but service was non existent. No one offered to refill my coffee or even came by during the 25 minutes I was there after my order was delivered. $25 for a coffee and scramble I've been to Nash's plenty of times and this was by far the worst experience.
