Food is always excellent. Our server, Jen, is amazing! Such a great memory of what our usual order is. We feel well taken care of. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I am usually super lenient when it comes to customer service and workers because I myself am one. But this is just unacceptable, I got there and sat for 20 minutes without being talked to or acknowledged. Some people got there after me and got sat first! Talk about disorganization. read more

This is our first time coming to the Bend location although we have been to a few in other places. I have to say this is the most spacious Black Bear we have been to. The interior is not too cluttered with bear paraphernalia. We got seated immediately and our server Alyssa was nice and helpful. Ordered 2 steak and eggs with sides of hash browns and country potatoes and a vegetable omelette with extra fruits. Drinks were coffee and orange juice. The steaks were cooked perfect medium like we asked, very juicy. However, it had too much gristle and didn't have much beefy taste or seasoning. In short, it was bland. We did love the country potatoes and hash browns. The vegetable omelette was pretty good though with lots of fresh veggies. The coffee was surprisingly good compared to other locations and the freshly squeezed orange juice is refreshing. Service was pretty good and we took home leftovers. Overall a good experience and we might come back again. When it comes to steaks, the Klamath Falls location is a clear winner. read more

Really bad service, I went in this morning with my boyfriend and kids, we sat down, 10 minutes pass by and no one acknowledged us, it's like we weren't even there, the servers kept passing by us, they were even charging the other customers as they were leaving, and NO ONE came to tell us anything. I literally felt like a ghost, we got up and left, won't be coming back. First and last time. They don't know anything about customer service here. Never felt so ignored! read more

A nostalgic spot around the corner from my old home in Bend. When we were long-distance dating, my now husband loved visiting this restaurant while I was at work. While visiting family over the holidays we returned for breakfast since we were in town. Easy to access location just off 3rd street but be careful if it's icy as the parking lot can be sketchy to navigate (walk like a penguin). The portion sizes are iconically American and reasonably priced. Plus the service was prompt and OJ fresh squeezed. I barely finished 1/2 of the California Benedict with hash browns and I'm 6 months pregnant. Be sure to come hungry and be prepared to bring home leftovers. read more

The food was ok. But this was THE BEST experience at a restaurant ever in my life. Our waitress Eve was absolutely amazing!!! She had my kids and I cracking up and we just LOVED HER! Best service ever what a personality. Can't wait to come back just to see her again! Give her a raise and don't ever let her go!!! read more

Black Bear is always hit or miss. When it's a miss, the food is inedible; however, lately it's been a hit and the food, and service, has been wonderful! There is an older gentleman who works as a server and he is always attentive and friendly! read more

Worst breakfast ever! Starting with our drinks, but no utensils to stir the coffee. Granddaughters cute pancakes were served with major bruised banana slices. My hash browns tasted of old grease. The buttered toast had the same strange taste of old grease. The kids enjoyed the pancakes and hot chocolate. The menu and bear theme was cute. Wish I had read the reviews before going there. read more

The food was ok but the fries where soggy. They took for ever and non stop forgot things even though it wasn't busy. I do not recommend this restaurant even though every other black bear dinner is amazing this one is terrible. read more

Great food and service!!!! I'm a big lady and the hostess sat us in a booth. She noticed it was a little snug for me and asked if we'd like a table instead. It wasn't that tight so I told her that the booth was fine. I thought that was very nice and did not take offense. I know she wanted me to have a nice and relaxing lunch. I got a BLT and it was awesome! My BF ordered bacon and French toast which was also amazing! Even though they were busy with inside customers and take out they were very attentive with all their customers. This is the 3rd time we've been there and have always had a great experience! read more

By far one of the worst meals ever. My husband and I went in hoping to have a good lunch after not dining in a sit down restaurant for months due to Covid. Very disappointed. I had a parmesan hamburger and fries. Yuck. The fries were warm and limp. The burger was barely edible. The patty was the worst frozen patty ever. Dry, but greasy. Weird. Couldn't even finish. My husband had breakfast. Mushy hash browns and basic. He mentioned the only good thing about the meal was the toast. The service was as expected. Basic We will not return. read more

Post-COVID-19 visit in my mask... like the rest of life right now, Black Bear is subdues, 2/3 empty, quiet and frankly, lifeless. I go to breakfast once in a while to get a good meal I don't have to cook, get into the morning mix, and be energized. This time, that didn't happen. The pervasive feeling was one entering a funeral home. It was quiet, dimly lit, hushed almost, and one felt like they had to Move quietly, sit quietly and speak quietly. One ordered in low tones, looked balefully around at the other tables, eating quietly, not talking much, no wild kids wiggling and screeching. The arrival of food didn't help much either. Corn beef has and eggs was served quietly. In order to be "hash" there should be potatoes, and other ingredient mixed in and cooked with the corned beef. Uh-uh, just shredded corned beef laying on the plate. The OM eggs were fine, and with a little tobasco added into the pile, it was edible. I ordered red potatoes as I thought the hash brown would be included in the dish. Nope. No hash browns AND no red potatoes. Left off by accident, I assume. The coffee was brown, that's about it. Now I remember why I go to the Breakfast Club, which unfortunately hasn't really-opened. Sigh..... read more

Very much worth the wait. Best onion rings I've had in a while. Beautiful dining area and gift shop.

Burnt-brown tasted like eating oil, horrible breakfast and worst customer service out server was Darla. First off she came by to tell us that she will be in a few minutes with us, but there was a couple came after us and she ran to take care of them first. No water or anything to drink was offered, I had to asked her for coffee several times and she came at the end to ask if everything was ok. I thought was a joke to ask, anyway I am a good tipper but when I get zero customer service that's what my server gets too, zero money. read more

I just had Uber deliver me breakfast from Black Bear diner in Bend. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast. My scrambled eggs were very good. The hash browns are always good at Black Bear. But the chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy. I like my chicken fried steak to be a little crispy with some gravy not swimming in it. I had ordered before and never had them pour so much gravy on it. I am not supposed to eat gluten so this was a treat I will pay for. What I miss eating at Black Bear is their cobbler. Oh man! Don't go home without whatever flavor is your favorite. Berry is mine read more

So. I work in downtown. I've lived here for 20 years. I have ordered BBD many times and been very thankful- this time I'm not so grateful. I'll label this - Salad of Garbage. My chicken was pink, air dried out and literally 3 tiny cubes. The lettuce was browned, bacon was from yesterday, and there was so much blue cheese I had to remove it. Thanks for helping me have a healthy meal, jerks. read more

Fisrt time at this location and I have to admit that it's a great place to have breakfast. Real fresh squeeze Orange juice, Maple syrup from real sugar not corn syrup or high fructose, oatmeal is steel cut which is better than traditional rolled oats. Pancake batter is a mystery which is good and a unique flavor. Highly recommend, very impressed for having quality food coming out the kitchen. Susan was our waitress with an excellent customer service read more

Had dinner and breakfast here because we were staying in the hotel next door. Chili bowl at dinner was bitter. Corn muffin was stale. Breakfast was worse: omelet was greasy and tasteless, served room temperature. English muffins were cold. Fresh avocado slices and fruit were good. Service very slow at breakfast. Altogether unappetizing. If you have a choice, go somewhere else. read more

We went with another couple who all ordered breakfasts. We ordered a blackberry bear claw and the avocado toast. The avocado toast came the same time as as the other couples breakfast. The toast was not toasted and cold, so two slices of bread with a couple of mashed table spoons of avocado and two eggs sitting on the side of the plate. When I told the server she said that that is the way they do it that it's just bread not toasted...what! Seriously avocado TOAST is not toast. Our friends were nearly done with their meals and the heated soggy bear claw finally came. Terrible do not spend your hard earned dollars hear. So sad... read more

Based on some of the prior reviews I think that basic training on how to be an effective waitress is in order. Certainly so in my case. I was sat in a table in the middle of the room so not hidden at all. When the waitress brought the menu she asked if I would like anything to drink and I replied "water, please." The salad came with no water. When the main course arrived from a different waitress I again asked for water. The second waitress brought the water. My original waitress returned when I was part way through the main course and I had to ask for a refill as she was about to leave without doing so. Water seems to be hard to get served at this locale. read more

Extremly unhygienic, unsanitary. Not-compliant health code violations and more :(

What happened to Black zBear? Their Chicken Fried Steak used to be the real thing now it's some sort of soy glop with leftover potatoes and crappy gravy. My husbands dinner was even worse. The server although amicable knew nothing about serving except how to overcharge. Our crappy salads were served after our meal. The best thing about "dinner" was the boxed wine. I'll never return to another Blacj Bear. read more

Server was extremely rude and had an attitude. We waited 5 minutes and she finally tells us that she has to put us on a waiting list. service was quick and good. the potatoes are always half raw and disgusting. even after asking to have them cooked all the way

My family and I came in Monday Morning. Our server was a man who was extremely unprofessional! He was swaying back and forth when taking our order, also yelling across the restaurant. I asked repeatedly for the bill. He took forever to get our drinks, and to take the order, and kept disappearing. The food was cold. When I was checking out I saw him come running threw the lobby and out the door outside. I asked the young lady up front if there was a manager to talk to and I was informed he is the manager! read more

I didn't want to cook for Thanksgiving, so we decided to get to-go dinners from Black Bear Diner. I called at 10:30 am on Thanksgiving morning, to make sure I reserved our order. Last year several places in town ran out of turkey dinners, so I wanted to make sure I got it in early. I placed my order for 2 of their traditional turkey dinners, and arranged a pick up time for 3:30. I arrived at 3:20. Our order was not ready yet, and since I was a bit early I didn't mind. They rang it up at the register while I waited, and I made sure to leave a tip. I always feel bad for people working on a holiday, and I know they work extra hard on this day. A lady came out and told me they ran out of stuffing...did I want extra mashed potatoes instead? Now, this probably isn't a big deal to most. I felt quite irritated and told her that is why I ordered at 10:30 this morning, to make sure we got our order "reserved". She said they were not making more, since they were closing at 4:00. I told her I understand if you're out, you're out...but that was why I ORDERED IT AT 10:30 IN THE MORNING! If you have orders that are pre-arranged, you make sure you have the items to fulfill them. Then, new people calling or coming in will not get the item you run out of. Makes sense to me. I just felt very disappointed. She didn't know how to respond, and apologized. I didn't want to be a "Karen" about stuffing (even though that is usually my favorite part of the Thanskgiving meal!) She said she would give extra mashed potatoes, and also offered me an extra desert item to help resolve the issue. When I got home and unpacked our order, there was NO EXTRA mashed potatoes and much less turkey. The price went up this year, I realize all prices have gone up. You pay more, and unfortunately get less. I have gone to Black Bear Diner for years and always enjoyed it. It has a "homey" feeling and generous portions. It's not fancy, but good quality and a nice value. Needless to say, I probably won't be going back. It has left me with a bad, disappointed feeling this holiday. I am grateful for what I have. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. read more

Came in when the free breakfast at our hotel fell through. They sat us in a booth by the windows and the sun was so nice and warm on a really cold morning. The service here was excellent here, Susan was amazing, we always had full drinks. The food was so good. My son got bear claw French toast and I tried it, it was so good. I ordered myself the bear Benedict and it was one of the best Benedict's I have had. The bacon was thick and full of flavor and they were generous with their avocado portions. read more

Ordered a chicken fried breakfast with country potatoes. The housemade gravy tasted like flour and the country potatoes were NOT crispy - like they'd just been boiled and the veggies in the country potatoes weren't cooked. Super gross. Our waitress made us feel like she didn't want to be there. Refilled our coffee once when we were done eating and they weren't busy. Used to love bug bear but now it's just like a crummy dennys or sharis. We won't return. So many better and delicious options. read more

It's hard to even give this diner 1 star. I used Postmates (a food delivery app) to make my order through Black Bear Diner and last minute decided to withdraw my order. They charged my card $51 and told me that they will not refund me my money because I canceled my order. The manager of the Diner told me, "well that's not my fault." She was completely rude and unapologetic. If I could I would write a bad review for Postmates as well do nothing use Postmates or go to Black Bear Diner they do not treat their customers fairly. The least should could have done was offer me a credit or something. I lost $51 and I didn't even get to see any of the food even though I canceled my order they still charged me. It's repulsive. read more

Ordered food. Was told to wait by online table. Never got food or was even asked about it for over 40 minutes. Ended up getting refund

SHORT STAFFED they bust ass.. Great place to eat socialize, and positive atmosphere. Open 7 days a week

Cranky waitress, breakfasts served slightly warm, and very greasy. Chose this restaurant because we have had good meals at other Black Bear Restaurants in the past, just won't come back to this one in Bend. read more

Yeah, I don't know why these places are so popular! Its gotta be the goofy-ass bears and wood cabin-like buildings that people enjoy about these places, not the food. I've been to several of these in OR and CA, and I must say, they are all about as bad. Just go to IHOP and save your money and time. read more

We went there for breakfast on a visit to Bend. I had a delicious waffle, sausage and 2 perfectly poached eggs. My husband wanted a family special occasion breakfast - a waffle with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. The young man who was serving us did not blink at the special order and made it happen. On our way out we also picked up a bear paw (so big that it had to be the whole paw, not just the claws) filled with delicious blackberry filling. This with coffee the next morning was just what we need to get back on the road. It was a pleasure dining here. read more
