I love the consistency of food from this chain and the portion size of the plate! The staff here is very friendly, but they don't do as much as they can (they probably make minimum wage plus tips, so I don't blame them). We eat here 3-4 per year and love going every time. I always get the hobo omelette and the biscuit. read more

Man, so disappointed. I used to come here about 4 years ago and it was great. Good food and service. Just had a weekend to get away with my girl and bragged about this place....... I'm just shaking my head. The other reviews about the service are correct. Seated right away but out of coffee and then didn't take our order for 15 min, then another 20 for a biscuit and gravy and a jr ham and cheese omelet. The next lady took forever to clear the table and had to ask twice if we'd been served or needed a check? Don't think I'll ever come back. read more

The waitress asked if everything was OK, but kept walking and never really stopped long enough to make a comment. Received the wrong type of tea, shake was half stirred. There was a big blob of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the tin. I had to finish stirring the shake. I must say the strawberries in the shake were too large to fit through the straw, which was cool. Fries and chicken strips were cold. This was not my first visit. I've been here 2-3 times over the last month. Really like the Black Bear in Klamath Falls, but won't be stopping by this one again any time soon. read more

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Have eaten there couple times & it was pretty good. However my son took me there last Thursday & food was not very warm. We sat there for awhile before anyone getting our order. We did get coffee ok, but when I asked for another cup finally had to get up & go to counter to get it. Family that came in after us got served way ahead of our table. Not sure I want to go back. Didn't make a very good impression. Georgia B read more

Darla was our awful waitress, who brought over our groups water with her fingers in our glasses. The food was overpriced and just as awful as the service. When my friend asked politely: "Hey when you get a spare moment can you please bring us our check?" Darla barked back: "Can't you see im busy, I'll be back in a few minutes!" I'd eat a dead black bear on the side of a highway before I ever eat at the black bear diner again! read more

Always my favorite. Food is OK, Staff OK too, nothing really special but the feeling I have dining in it is so good, always the same, is it Sonoma City or Bent City. Love this place. read more

Ehhh. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because our waitress was always on top of things and constantly being attentive. The downside is that all we got were salads and yet they came out to almost $13 each?!?! They were mediocre and far too under cooked for my taste. Unless you like fuschia pink chicken. It's too bad. It's such a cute little cabin like place with a vintage juke box. They advertise amazing customer service which is exactly what you get. I just wish I could say the same for the food. Sorry Black Bear. I won't be coming back. read more

The food is just what one would expect from a chain restaurant, average traditional & filling. However, the Bend location restrooms both men's & women's were disgustingly dirty & not just from use on a busy Sunday morning. It was the grime collected along the edge & corners of the floor, & around the sinks of the ladies rm that made me wonder about what the 'employee only' kitchen was like. Fingers crossed that no one in our group of 5 gets sick. read more

Went there at 8:25 pm. Said kitchen was closed. And hostess called me a guy. FAIL. Now at Kayo's.

i love this diner. there was an amazing atmosphere along with very helpful staff. food was delicious and our hostess, Bridjet, did a excellent job. read more

This is a great local diner. We were coming home from a night in Bend and stopped here for some Saturday morning breakfast. They were happy to take our name and seat us in a timely manner with exceptional service from our server. The portions were HUGE and delicious. Everything was fresh and made to order. Very, very happy with our experience at this homey diner :) read more

I live in the Portland area so Black bear isn't really new to me but I understand it is to central oregon folks. I used to live in Bend, so when I came down here to visit, it was nice to see a good place to eat. I had bacon and eggs I know, pretty basic but I'm not much of a breakfast eater. The eggs were really good. They were not all rubbery like you get at iHop or Sharris. Why they think rubbery eggs are "cool" is beyond me. Food was hot, fresh and served quicky. Server was decent. a bit "off" but decent. If you've been to black bear, you've been to all. read more

Staff was friendly, restaurant was clean and decorated in a fun "bear" theme. We had breakfast and I appreciated the opportunity to order a "little less" size of the classic hearty fare. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I always love visits to Black Bear Diners, even if they're just occasional. Huge portions, friendly service, decent prices. No complaints about this location today. Another satisfying meal! (The bears are cute too :) read more

Our waitress was super friendly! Two of us got the Bacon Cheeseburger with fries and it was Yummy! I got the salmon...it was "eh". Wish I got the burger. Food came quick which was a plus. Cute menus...they were newspapers. Thought it was cute that they had two stuffed black bears sitting at the counter service. read more

I LOVE their breakfast!!!! their pancakes are Addicting and Delic!!!! I have been there about 4 times now and would go back, the sausage is homemade and the menu for breakfast is sooo large with great options! The chix fajita is great and so is the cinnamon french toast, a bit on the sweet side though, I would be back for breakfast again soon! :) Recommend!!!! read more

Not very good food. Lots of it. I had roast beef recommended by our waitress. Gravy was either powdered or canned. The plate was smothered in it. Awful. Green beans were decent. Salad had been out since lunch, wilted with lots of brown edges. Blue cheese dressing is pretty much diluted mayonnaise. Little cheese flavor at all. Corn bread was good. Iced tea was good. Waitress and people were nice. You advertise home cooked fresh food and completely miss against that standard. You need to eat at your own place a few times and then fix this. It's completely below standard. I won't come back. read more

I love this place for breakfast. I can't figure out why the other reviews are so-so, I've never had a bad experience. I've eaten almost every breakfast place in Bend, and this is my favorite. The waitresses are nice, the portions are huge, the food is delicious, and the checks are always reasonable. read more

Since I have moved to CO 4 yrs ago I have dined at the Redmond and Bend Black Bear diner more than any others. Well my experience on 8/17 was the last time for the one in Bend. Theyre menu was very limited and you could only get hasbrowns not the country potatoes theyre famous for. The waitress said it was because of the eclipse, she was dead serious. Being my grandsons birthday I went w/ it. When I got my food the hashbrowns were room temperature, chickenfried steak had enough gravey to cover maybe an 1/4 of it and the overeasy eggs were anything but. Worst Breakfast Ever! Good Luck Black Bear your not getting my money again. read more

Have been here numerous times while traveling through, great service and food was spot on.

Placed order online. Tipped 20% for a to go order. Wasn't worth the service or the tip. The greeter, Britney was rude to my assistant and they didn't provide us with 100% of our order. She even told me on the phone everything looked like it was there. My son was missing the main parts of his meal. We have never had such poor service at Black Bear. Needless to say it was a terrible experience this time around. read more

Hot and hearty diner fare. The pancakes were excellent and the bacon was thick and perfectly crispy. The burgers looked great and my son loved the fries. Service was attentive, friendly and prompt. We passed up fast food for a quick meal off the highway...this was the perfect solution! It's not fancy, but diners aren't supposed to be! Simple food done well. The kids meal came with a sundae and the waitress brought all the fixings and let the kids design their sundaes. read more

Slow Slow Slow. We waited for our food for over 40 minutes. Food was fine. Things that we ordered were missed.

Not busy on a Monday morning. Environment was clean. Coffee is strong! I had the meat lovers omelette- which surprised me on how good the meat was! My wife got the nut 7 grain pancakes which are so good you'll need to take a nap after. It's a great spot for a reasonable price. read more

I have definitely experienced better. The staff was friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. The worst of the meals was the "Tri Tip Dinner" A little less The meat was so chewy it was very hard to cut even with the steak knife. The chocolate cream pie was 98% whipped cream. There was a layer of chocolate pudding stuff about 1/16 of an inch thick. It was a huge disappointment. The price and the quality were not in unison! When I was asked if I enjoyed my meal I informed them of the issue with the meat. She gave me a $2 off coupon for the next visit. No thanks! read more

More on our vacation trip through Oregon. Arrived in Bend Oregon for a stopover and while we were appalled by our motel, our dinner at the Black Bear Diner was the saving grace on the day after many hours driving. Mila our server was attentive and took our joking in stride. The new guy also acting cashier was nice and friendly so we hope we didn't get him in trouble calling him over to give a tip on table clearing shortcuts. (Yes we saw the manager jump when we called him over. No he didn't do anything wrong. We just felt a need to advise him to make him a better employee. It's what I do as manager in my own business anyway. Each one, teach one. Love that saying.) Anyway, great burger and fries for me. Steak for my spouse and our day was saved. Thanks Black Bear Diner, we'll check out your locations nearer to home when we get back. I see online that there are quite a few... read more

Family Favorite! This and the Madras location are must stops for my family as we head south from Portland to Sunriver for our annual ski. High calorie all day breakfast is delicious and generous. Thanks! read more

Have been for breakfast and they have a great breakfast. Pretty traditional, I love their fresh cut hash browns... Delicious. The best thing is the price. Living in Bend, it is hard to find an affordable breakfast. The staff is very friendly too. read more

Excellent service and yummy burgers. The chicken tortilla soup was fantastic. Hit it at a non busy time for a better experience.

They seem really under staffed. Two hostess kept walking away to do pointless tasks, and one walked away when Two customers were waiting to pay. No smiles, no thank you come again, nothing. The waitress we had was rushed and demanded we order our drinks and food the first time she walked up to our table. Didn't ask how our day was or if we needed more time to look at the menu. Other tables around us had orders that were incorrect in which our waitress exclaimed it wasn't her fault it must have been someone else's fault... yikes. Only gave it two stars because our food came out quickly... but that's the only good part about this place. read more

Had a great comfort food meal with my wife and daughters. Fried chicken was crisp and moist. Excellent California eggs Benedict with awesome hash browns. Fries were great. Salad was fresh. read more

We just had dinner and we're very disappointed! It took what seemed like forever to get served! The omelets were good, but the service was very bad! We felt totally ignored! Will not return! read more

Don't get me wrong I see 3 stars as being average, which it was... There was bit of lag of getting seated (we had a group of 7 including needing 2 highchairs) and getting our server. But after that we had great service. Food was ok, it wasn't horrible and it wasn't over the top. I ALMOST took home a bear claw (it was HUGE) and look incredibly delicious!!! I would return again! read more

This is the WORST place ever. Watched the host, Adam, saunter to make a table for us, moved slower than a slug. Finally got seated and we must have been invisible. Waited for a long time and never once was greeted or even offered water. I finally flagged down a waitress and asked if we could be served and she curtly said, "yes, in a minute!" I had enough and gathered up the family and told them lets go someplace else. On the way out Black Bear employee, Sarah took it upon herself to tell me that it wasn't their fault. I must say, it must have been my fault. I will never go back to this particular Black Bear. Gives the entire chain a bad name. I'm used to friendly customer service from all the other Black Bears. This one should be stripped of its name. It isn't worthy to carry the Black Bear name. At a minimum Adam and Sarah need customer service training. read more

I would rate this location a 0 stars if it would let me. I have been to their locations in CA many times and had no issues, but this location has had some of the worst food service I have ever experienced. Having served table for 10 + years, I know how easy it is, especially when there are onlly 6 tables in the whole restaurant. The worst part is that they don't seem to care about their horrible service. The food is ok, but the service has made us leave after ordering our drinks, waiting 10 min and still not being approached about ordering food. read more

The food was pretty good, service on the other hand was not. First our waitress took forever to come to us, then took our drink order and came back five minutes later without drinks to AGAIN ask us what we wanted to drink. It doesn't end there. She took our food order and was in disapproval for OUR choice of what WE WANTED to eat. Kept telling us what we should and shouldn't have as if she knows. So we ordered, comes back ten minutes later and tries to take our order again. Food comes twenty minutes later, wrong order, wrong sides. Asked for her to fix our order and she gets pissy with us as if we did something wrong! The worst part is she had written down our orders for drinks and food and yet still couldn't remember if she even took our order or what we wanted. Ridiculous! If you go here I hope you don't get Darla as your waitress. read more

I walked in and it took over 5 minutes for anyone to even greet us, then she said she'd be right back and sat us at our table without any additional words. The waitress was kind of snobby, and the biscuits AND the gravy where disgusting. I've given multiple attempts but never enjoyable. read more

Went there last night wanted a steak.said it was 10 oz. No way,it was thin as a pancake, over cooked to boot. Waitress never came back to check on us our I would have told her. She did comeback to bring us the check. I told her then and she took half off the steak. read more
