Cranky waitress, breakfasts served slightly warm, and very greasy. Chose this restaurant because we have had good meals at other Black Bear Restaurants in the past, just won't come back to this one in Bend. read more

Yeah, I don't know why these places are so popular! Its gotta be the goofy-ass bears and wood cabin-like buildings that people enjoy about these places, not the food. I've been to several of these in OR and CA, and I must say, they are all about as bad. Just go to IHOP and save your money and time. read more

Looking for comfort food on a cold day, I came in and decided to have Thanksgiving early! Delicious turkey and red mashed potatoes, sautéed veggies and a small side of cranberry sauce (which made it complete). There was a LOT of gravy (like a lot, you'll see) but easy enough to push to the side and a huge portion of food so plenty leftover for later. I completed my meal with some dessert - yes of course I got dessert even though I had leftovers! I did finish all my vegetables! The pie I wanted was sold out - most of them do pretty early fyi - so I settled on the apple crumb cobbler and it did not disappoint. It was also a huge serving and I could have taken the rest of that home too if I'd wanted! Susan was the only waitress working and she was excellent. Very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is homey and inviting with warm log cabin details and a fun story behind the name. Now if you'll excuse me, I must slip away into my tryptophan-induced food coma! read more

We went there for breakfast on a visit to Bend. I had a delicious waffle, sausage and 2 perfectly poached eggs. My husband wanted a family special occasion breakfast - a waffle with strawberries and vanilla ice cream. The young man who was serving us did not blink at the special order and made it happen. On our way out we also picked up a bear paw (so big that it had to be the whole paw, not just the claws) filled with delicious blackberry filling. This with coffee the next morning was just what we need to get back on the road. It was a pleasure dining here. read more

Service was horrible took forever to get the food and when we finally got it it was burnt. I ordered a glass of orange juice in the glass had food stuck to it. I would never go back to this place ever again it should be closed down for health violations read more

Twice now, I have given this place the opportunity to redeem itself. From a good service perspective, they need better management. On our first visit, we were sat down and literally waited 35 minutes with nothing but water on our table. There was food in the window for long periods of time. The waitress was standing around at one point crying. The cook had a sour face on. No TEAM WORK. This is not good. We left due to this. On our second visit, we were told to wait in the waiting area for a table. About ten minutes later another group of people come in and are immediately seated. When I approached the hostess, she said that they are regulars and therefore get special treatment. something is not right here. read more

Something crawled up the waiter with the Spock eyebrows *** and died and he was taking it out on all of the patrons. Horrible service. 2 stars for the chicken tenders tho. read more

We looked forward to breakfasting at this diner conveniently located near our lodging. We were disappointed. Food was OK, service was dreadful. We were seated and our server wandered by to get our drink order. So far, so good. Perused the menu, settled on our choices...cue the crickets. After an eternity our server reappeared to take our order...eggs with muffin, scramble with fruit & toast. (more crickets) Food arrives...eggs with muffin, scramble with hash browns. OK, kitchens mess up...fruit on its way (more crickets). Pick up a piece of toast...it's black on the bottom (and on the top of the bottom slice). Send it back...cue the crickets... I won't bore you with the rest It's the first time in a long time that I've zeroed out a tip...but it was such a great team effort that I felt they deserved it. read more

I had breakfast there this morning. The food was great and my server ( Jenny ) was amazing. I will go back!

Great service, great food! We'll be back our next time thru town. Thanks Jake for the great service,

Amazing takeout breakfast. Only wish they were fully open so we could enjoy the nostalgic rustic atmosphere that is unique to breakfast diners. read more

A bit on the pricey side for breakfast fare, but better quality than some other place in Bend I have been too. They were accommodating to me subbing usual delicious carbs (don't hate me, lol) with some tomatoes, which is a problem for some diners. Delicious! Now if they can just make what I ordered an official menu item, serve it with some drizzled olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and name it after me...that would be heaven! Also, the server Carlin was a sweetheart. read more

Black Bear Diner - Subbed carbs with some tomatoes. Lettuce was unexpected bonus. I ate it kind of 'BLT' wrap with egg! - Diners Near Me - Bend, Oregon

Service is terrible but the food is decent. I had the tri-tip. Hubby has the chicken fried steak and the teen had chicken strips and fries. I like they offer smaller portions of some item but the full meals are a lot of food! read more

Worst server ever! Asked for your order 1 minute after you sit down. Didn't even allow me to order desert...

Great coffee and pancakes! I love going to this diner in Oregon. Always great service too.

The service is awesome even though they are short staffed they still seem to be very pleasant and once you get seated it seems like your foods already done hot and fresh there servers busy there ass to make sure you have friendly good food and good atmosphere. read more

Black Bear Diner - Barely cooked egg. terrible hasbrowns. - Diners Near Me - Bend, Oregon

Very rude evening manager and staff on the evening of 10/29/22. Cold, undercooked food, the manager rolled his eyes when I asked him to unlock the front door so I could leave. He said "unbelievable" that I asked him to unlock the door and let me out when he was busy doing paperwork. Worst service, and food, I cannot believe this place stays open. Our food was cold and mostly unedible. I emailed the address on the site that evening. I've yet to get a reply. $57 for an attitude, 30 minute wait and terrible food. read more

UPDATE - I think I got food poisoning from here, several hours after this situation I became very sick. I did not eat anything else other than here before I got sick. Do NOT get the chicken fried steak Benedict!! Unfortunately my friends and I had a pretty bad experience and will not return. Our waitress seemed upset with us before we even ordered anything. Once we were ordering she was not able to make a substitution which is fine but when we asked just for the toast on the side instead she gave us attitude. She took my friends iced coffee away when it was still about half full and when my friend tried to ask her for another when she was walking away she yelled back No Refills! My friend said she was willing to pay for another one. Before our food even came out the waitress gave us our bill. Our food was barely warm, we did not get the side of toast until we were getting up to leave, and our waitress made us feel uncomfortable. We don't usually ask for managers but this time we felt we needed too. We weren't looking for a discount or anything; we just wanted to voice our concern. While we were at the register talking to the manager the waitress came up and asked us what our problem was. When my friend started to explain the situation with the coffee, the waitress raised her voice and argued that her drink was gone and she felt she gave us good service. This made us more uncomfortable and it kinda made a scene which is embarrassing not only for us but for them. The manager was so nice, she gave us a discount which was not expected but appreciated. We left disappointed, embarrassed and uncomfortable. read more

Huge portions which is okay if you are hungry or want to have left overs, but the senior menu is much more reasonable portion size This is an okay place to go for breakfast or lunch in Bend. What we like is that it is pretty good for a group, you can get a large table with chairs and everyone can hear each other because it isn't too loud in here. The food is sometime just fine and sometime not good at all. Today the soup wasn't hot, and the sandwich was okay. Last time the breakfast pancakes were good and huge! Just varies alot. read more

We ordered our food through door dash and it was super disappointing. The avocado toast I ordered was not toasted and the avocado was just sliced on top rather than smashed and spread into the bread. I also ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and the cheese was clearly placed on top of cold eggs because it wasn't melted at all. I am very disappointed with my meal. They need to pick up their standards. read more

Black Bear! One of my favorite things about the Pacific Northwest is the abundance of Black Bear Diners. I reviewed one a few years ago near Seattle and said "Black Bear isn't a racehorse, it's a workhorse." This remains true: you aren't going to come here for a deconstructed omelette with a mimosa and tiny cup of espresso. You are here because you want/need a ton of food cooked right and fast. Perfect for hangovers or prior to performing manual labor or hitting the slopes/trails all day. read more

We actually drove several miles out of our way to give this place a try, having seen their signs and passing several of their restaurants along the way through Oregon. Mistake! After waiting nearly 5 minutes before being greeted, a young woman came out with a look on her face like she was really miserable that we'd come in. She motioned for us to follow her then practically ran to our table, leaving us behind, tossed the menus on the table and walked off without even looking our way! I should have followed my instincts and walked out then and there. The menu was uninspired and boring, but by now we were hungry and not eager to start again searching for someplace to eat breakfast. Again, a mistake. We should have left. We finally decided on some items that seemed tolerable, then waited nearly 30 minutes for them to arrive. After about 20 minutes, the waitress came up and told us that she was sorry for the wait, that we were waiting for the "big order." I have no idea what she meant by that as we had each ordered standard items from the menu. Another 10 minutes and the food finally showed up. ugh! As others have noted, the Eggs Benedict were a joke. The eggs were hard and the sauce was yuck. The coffee tasted burnt. The prices were pretty high too. Not "diner" prices at all. read more

Hostess: 2/5 Waitress: 5/5 Breakfast: 3/5 In town for the Eclipse and we stopped in my son's favorite place to eat. This chain can be hit or miss, but we had a pleasant dining experience. We requested the seating area off to the side because I have sensory issues, and the Hostess wasn't as accommodating as normal, but we did get a table there. The waitress was super friendly, and very attentive, even with a party of 20 in addition to our table. The food was good enough. My son got a steak, most of which is still on his plate (he will learn, don't order steak at a dinner). Hubby and I had the denver omelettes. The potatoes/ veggies were not cooked enough, but that is typical during a rush at a dinner. $60 bucks for 3 plates of breakfast, a side of hotcakes and 2 sodas. All in all it was a positive experience. read more

I think we had the same waitress that Erin B. had.....she greeted us with "were you waiting to eat?" But, we persevered, and she turned out to be a great character. Unfortunately, she was the best part of the stop. She even insisted on warming up my dessert when she found out we were going to eat it on the road! ok, on to food....Split pea soup was a little salty...isn't it, everywhere? Ok, now tell me, why would any place that cares enough to use real potatoes for mashing and can offer seven grain bread, use canned gravy and frozen meat? Who are they fooling? I could not get the taste out of my mouth, even after trying to eat the bread pudding, which depended on sugar for its main flavor. Waitress gets five stars, food gets one, so split the difference. read more

How do you screw up breakfast? Go to Black Bear in Bend, OR, that's how. Hash browns were undercooked, soaked in oil & barely warm. Biscuits over cooked & gravy tasted like thick flour with zero seasoning. Pancakes were heavy & not much flavor served with warm strawberries and runny whip cream (obviously spent time under the warmer) and the BLT was served on barely toasted bread with room temperature soft fries (must have been the pancakes neighbor under lamps). The bacon was edible after working around the fat & the eggs could not even be saved with hot sauce. After spending $52 on food (we all only had water to drink) I sure wish I had a better review to give. Save yourself & go some place else. read more

Mediocre. The wait time for every step of the process was unnecessarily long. We were in mid-day on a Monday and the place wasn't hardly busy, however we sat waiting to order, for our food, for the check, and for our payment to be picked up for 10+ minutes at each step. After another woman cleared our table our waitress had to confirm that she had even brought us our food? I had on omelet that was comparable to that of a Denny's or Sharis. Oily, with tons of cheese, no spices or flavor. I was really unimpressed, service was horrible. I don't recommend this place... Go to a real breakfast spot while visiting Bend! read more

If you are wanting a big ol' fashioned breakfast with enough volume to feed an actual black bear, this is the joint for you. The portions are large, the coffee is black, and the wait staff is about as traditional diner as you are going to find in Bend. I had seen Black Bear Diners in many mountain towns in Oregon and California. It wasn't until my wife and I moved to Bend that we actually stopped and had breakfast at one. Had I been smart I would have gone much sooner. You won't be served up any froofy new age chow here (Go to Chow for that). You will however get a good honest to goodness old fashioned breakfast here. read more

Pretty average food at a chain diner. I sat at the counter and service was very fast and friendly. I had a two egg breakfast with chicken apple sausage and hash browns. The portions were huge but the whole thing was pretty greasy. Prices were reasonable. read more

We gave Black Bear Diner a try recently and it definitely didn't meet our expectations. 2 adult entrees and 2 kid meals and the best I can say is that our server was nice. My sandwich was not "toasted", it was black. Burnt. I had to scrape 2/3 of each piece of bread off of the sandwich before I could eat it. Maybe the toaster was set at too high of a setting - but regardless - it should not have been delivered to our table that way. I should have sent it back but when eating dinner with two small kids, the goal is "Get in, Get out!" so I scraped it off and showed it to our server (when she was able to come by and check on us). She apologized and asked if I wanted it remade but I had already butchered it and eaten half. At least it should have been removed from our bill. I didn't ask and they didn't offer. so we paid our bill and know we don't plan to return. The other entrees weren't bad, but they weren't great either. Just mediocre food that we won't likely return for. Bend is full of restaurants much more deserving of a visit! read more

Delicious food from a chain diner I had never heard of. We stopped because we weren't familiar with any restaurant in town, and it looked safe. My brother ordered some smoked ham breakfast that he absolutely loved. No joke. He still talks about it today, even though it was a year ago we ate here. I got their "special" pancakes and they were the best restaurant pancakes I've ever had. I forgot what made them more special then their regular pancakes, but oh well. The service was ok. Our waitress seemed disinterested, but she wasn't rude or anything. I vaguely recall tipping her, so she couldn't have been that bad. I definately recommend this place! read more
