My new "go-to" place for lunch. I've been here 3x in the past week as I found myself constantly craving Bite. I've had the Middle Eastern Vegan and Sabih sandwiches as well as the Mediterranean Salad. It's all super fresh and tasty. The hummus is nice and creamy, greens and tomatoes are crisp and portions are big. I'm not usually a fan of ciabatta bread but it goes well with their sandwiches. The Mediterranean Salad is especially filling with roasted pepper tapenade and roasted eggplant. The almonds and pine nuts add a nice crunch. Came with a whole pita that was warmed and good to scrape the extra hummus and dip from the bowl. It's always busy here and can be a pain with so many people crowding never knowing who is online to order or waiting for their food ... they really need a rope to divide a "to order" side and "pick up" side. read more

DELISH w/MANY Keto Options! I stumbled upon this gem by searching my train stop on a map. My options are somewhat limited, because I just began the Keto Diet. I ordered the Mediterranean Tuna Salad...absolutely delicious!!! The value was unbelievable as well. Salads don't normally fill me, but this was a hefty salad for $9...and it came with bread (which I couldn't eat). The way they use a very small space is pretty ingenious. Literally a grab-and-go lunch spot - you order out of a window and there are no benches or anything to sit at. The workers were a bit short when we ordered but it was the lunch rush so they were getting tons of orders. Overall, solid paninis with a nice crunch and non-traditional options like the exotic tuna sandwich with gold raisins, the Mediterranean Tuna Panini, and Mediterranean Schnitzel. This place has my favorite hummus! It's soft and buttery and comes with warm doughy pita. I recommend dining in, because it comes out so fresh. I also order the Mediterranean chicken panini. This is one of my favorite places to stop by on the go. The food tastes great for a better price. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, soup, cookies and pastries. They should add some smoothies to the menu. I've been eating here since they opened up and still go from time to time. Thanks for being one for the only sub shops with reasonable price points. Ugh. That's all of the words I can think of when it comes to visiting this particular Bite. I have actually come by here twice and both times I was told that it's cash only as the cashier hands a credit card back to someone in line as well as there being a Visa/Mastercard sticker by their menu, so I'm not exactly sure what the deal is with that. I'm not one to bag on any establishments but I also wasn't particularly pleased with the fact that the two times I visited and did pay cash only, I was definitely shortchanged both times. Granted, it was a couple months between the first time I visited and the most current time I visited, when I was shortchanged the second time, I then remembered exactly why I haven't been here in so long and I wasn't sure that I wanted to come again but I forgot why so I decided to drop by again. I also waited quite a while after I ordered, long enough where both the people before and after me had taken their order and left before the cashier looked at me and asked "what did you order?" Don't get me wrong, the sandwich is good here, but every time I've been here, I just don't even want them to bother with getting me my food if the experience for obtaining my food is this prolonged, awkward, and straight-up awful. I have no idea if this is the only place where I just haven't had a good experience, but I'm not sure that I want to visit a different chain to try my luck. read more

Meh. Came here during lunch and it left me with bad taste in my mouth. The service was beyond rude. They all act like they are doing you a favor by taking your orders. I got the side salad and a lentil soup. My soup tasted like soap water. It was grey and everything tasted spoiled. I ended up getting sick a few hours after. My salad was a typically green salad, I guess what made it special was the "homemade spicy mustard dressing". I will never return. I don't feel like getting food poison for the second time. I was really hungry yesterday and a friend suggested this place for sandwiches and paninis. I decided to try the smoked turkey pesto panini and my friend got the salami panini. It is a quick outdoors order and grab-to-go kind of place and there was a bit of a wait for our paninis. Not too bad considering the taste of the nicely toasted panini and a generous layer of turkey. We sat by a park and ate our lunch in the mini breeze. Very filling and it smelled really great. I would love to try the eggplant panini next time. read more

I was in the area buying fish at Petsmart and I searched for "cheap food" on yelp. This came up and was right next to the train station. Too many nice choices but I ended up ordering the Middle Eastern Mushroom sandwich... which ended up being fcking amazing beyond my expectations. I tried to save half for lunch the next day. I ended up coming back the next day for more. There are so many options I want to try, and so cheap!!!! So.... This place is about as minimal as it gets in terms of space. After finding it on Yelp, a friend and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat before we headed back uptown. We got a prosciutto panini and ate it outside on a hot weekend afternoon. While the panini was well toasted and was a decent size, I felt like it lacked flavor and was pretty one node. PRO: Middle Eastern egg sandwich. A flavorful and spicy way to start the morning. Wash it down with a hot cup of coffee and you're set til lunch, at least. ANOTHER PRO: If an egg sandwich isn't your thing, there are plenty of other things to choose from including huge pastries and lots of lunch items. They even offer a Nutella banana panini which sounds just too good. CON: The dude behind the counter was super mean. Last visit wasn't even at a busy time - there was no line, yet he was still short and cranky and got our coffee order wrong then said it was our fault. ANOTHER CON: No seating at all so you'll have to be willing to walk and eat, take to go, or just hover over a tiny little ledge they have. Would be fine, but the Middle Eastern sandwich is super messy so be prepared with tons of napkins. Unfortunately, the guy behind the counter was very unhappy to give us extras. As you can see, a pretty good balance of pros and cons, but at the end the tasty breakfast sandwich and the reasonable prices win out and make me a fan. It blows my mind that someone ever thought it would be a good idea to erect a building on the sliver of a block that houses Bite, but I'm awfully glad they did. Bite is roughly the size of my bathtub, and I imagine that part of its hiring process must have involved some sort of claustrophobia clearance test, because they've basically got room inside to turn around, and that's pretty much it. Do you see what I'm getting at here? The place is TINY, if you catch my drift. Now here's where I say something cute like "Bite may be small, but it is big on flavor!" or "What Bite lacks in square footage it makes up for in yumminess" or "Bite: little store, giant sandwiches" etc, etc. Contrast, you see! Look, bottom line is I got a really delicious roast beef sandwich here today. It was huge. It contained a ton of juicy pink meat, sharp cheese and crisp mixed greens, and it cost $7.50, which I'm sadly beginning to find to be a very reasonable price for a sandwich these days. Very fast lunch spot just north of Houston Street, I was excited to try the sabih sandwich spicy style. Usually I'd go with the mozzarella panini or something, but after seeing all of the good reviews for the sabih sandwich I figured I'd try something outside of my comfort zone. The sandwich was really good, the hummus, eggplant, egg, and greens came together nicely. As a sandwich there were two distinct failures; the bread was too hard which made it difficult to keep all of the soft ingredients from falling outside of the bread while eating. The second failure was the sandwich wasn't spicy at all. I'm not the queen of spicy by any means, but spicy should mean you get a little bit of a kick, especially with a sandwich that has the bread and hummus there to mellow out the heat. What do you charge for rent on a place that is so small that there is barely any room to even turn around? No I'm not talking about your Manhattan apartment. I am talking about Bite. Who ever would have thought to take that sliver of land on the triangle where Mulberry Street and Lafayette Street meets Bleeker Street? Guessing that they probably have about 15 square feet of space would actually seem generous. Regardless of how small it is, Bite still serves up a mean lunch menu. I'm here on a weekly basis. Around the office, this is our go to place for a coffee run. Their coffee is reasonably priced, fresh, and made just how I like it every time. I usually go for a Small coffee with sugar and soy milk. I'm guessing soy is a popular item among patrons of Bite. Every time I go there later in the day they always seem to be out. I think when you ask for sugar what they actually give you is simple syrup because I always see them squirt something out of a squirt bottle. There really isn't anything wrong with simple syrup either since it is essentially just water mixed with large amounts of sugar. The soups and sandwiches at Bite are also very delicious. They have a wide array of sandwiches and pressed panini to choose from. There is a special combo price for half a panini and a warm cup of delicious soup. My favorites include the Genoa Salami with Mozzarella Panini and the Roast Beef with Sundried Tomatoes, Pesto, etc. The sandwiches a not huge but they are definitely big and satisfying enough to induce a welcomed food coma in the early afternoon at the office. While there obviously isn't any indoor seating at Bite, they do provide you with a few stools and a small counter built into the side of the building. You can pull up a stool and sit to enjoy your meal or just sit and wait for your sandwich. It does take a bit to make the food and there is always a line of people waiting. Even when construction on the 6 Train had the MTA to tear up the sidewalk and caused the window on Lafayette Street to close, a line formed on Mulberry Street and service resumed as usual through a tiny window on the other side. Now taking a quote from fellow Yelper and Bite reviewer Becca S., "What Bite lacks in square footage it makes up for in yumminess." That in my honest opinion describes everything about Bite in a nutshell. While there isn't anything about Bite that makes it so mind blowing that people from out of state should fly to New York just to experience, there is some novelty in the fact that someone actually thought to build Bite on such a plot of land. Literally walking about NYC and I see this tiny place all by it's lonesome with hustle and mega stores all over the place. I was starving, so I was like "why not". Did this place was awesome!!! There's only stools and a small area to eat. Maybe fits like 4 people, it's more of a grab and go but everything is made to order and it's SO GOOD. I had a Mediterranean wrap/gyro and it was incredible. Vegetables were finely chopped into small fragments and mixed with everything. Chicken was cooked well and sauces were perfect combination to the whole thing. I highly, highly recommend you order this. There way more options, but this one caught my eye and took my taste buds by surprise. I got a home cooked muffin for dessert which fell apart in your hands. Get off the 6 at Bleecker and it's right in front of you. Love the guys who work here -- they're friendly and helpful, no matter how busy. I have yet to try anything but their sandwiches here (although I'm dying to try their spicy black bean soup + yogurt), and for $5.75, these sandwiches are big and very filling. I can't pick a favorite sandwich... but I do keep coming back for the exotic tuna and middle eastern vegan sandwich (get that one spicy -- packs a nice little punch!). They definitely don't skimp on the sandwich fillings, and the bread is also from Balthazar... all of which equals really really really good sandwiches. I have a classic love-hate relationship with this place. No doubt it's an easy, inexpensive option for yummy and sometimes inventive panini. On the other hand, the line is often out of control in the morning and lunch rushes, making a potentially quick order into an ordeal. Also, mornings are a gamble; they can open at 7:30 or 9. You can convert most of the sandwiches to salads if you ask. I'm a big fan of the Middle Eastern Vegan, roasted eggplant, hummus and roasted peppers. Delish. The Outstanding: Owners funny and chatty attitude. This guy is a riot, from directions, to drink recommendations to party invitation he's a one stop shop for my comic and social relief. The Great: The food and people watching. I used to complain that the lines are long, the stools are always full and that the rain drops on my head. But enjoying the people walking around has always been a great addition to incredibly tasty and amazingly cheap food. I work right around the corner and have been half heartedly listening to my coworkers talk about this place forever. Wasn't until I was bored with my normal lunch haunts and did a search on Yelp for someplace close and inexpensive that I finally decided to go and see what the fuss was about. Of course Murphy's Law being what it usually is, when I finally walked over to Bite a couple of weeks ago the place was closed for renovations. My coworkers took a wee bit of satisfaction when they heard about my failed attempt. I suppose I deserved those smug looks given that I had put more credence in yelp reviews than coworker reviews. ANYWAY, since the yelp raves about the Middle Eastern smoked turkey sandwich remained lodged in my brain, I decided to take a walk over there again today. To my delight, Bite was open. To my even greater delight, they managed to get my spicy Middle Eastern smoked turkey sandwich to me within a few minutes of ordering. And as everyone has mentioned, with drink my total bill was $7.50. Lessons I've learned... I should listen to my coworkers when they start talking about a new inexpensive place to eat even if I'm a carnivore and most of them are vegetarian/vegan. I adore bite, and eat there a few times a week, as it's just around the corner from work. However, it's like the subway, rather confusing for newbies. You have to learn how to give your order so it comes out there way you want it, you have to learn when it's your turn, and you have to learn to GET OUT OF THE WAY AND MOVE TO THE SIDE as soon as you have ordered. Sure, after waiting in a semi-long line of working folks getting their morning joe and announcing to the guy behind the counter that I wanted this pressed sandwich, he gave me some attitude--cuz I was ruining his flow or something.. I couldn't stop thinking about how delicious my lunch at Bite was yesterday, and how the green chili curry on the menu had caught my eye. I had to try it...and wow, I will be eating this at least once a week (even though it's so hot outside)! My mouth is still on fire from eating it, but it burns so good. It's not a large portion but it's very satisfying and filled with copious amounts of deliciousness. Large hunks of extremely tender, juicy chicken, lots of rice, hot and spicy green chilis, and creamy coconut milk combine to create a soup that I would probably bathe in if I was given the opportunity (just bein' honest). I work a block away from this quick bite establishment and it has been a life saver so many times when I have no idea what I want to eat. Everything is fresh and made in a timely manner. My favorite go to item is the turkey pesto sandwich that comes with this side salad that has this bomb balsamic vinaigrette. This is a walk up window style establishment. Don't expect a place to sit down spot because this is not a place to pull up a chair. Great place for a quick, affordable, and tasty bite. This is was about as close to "street-food" as I've ever gotten. It was a gloomy Saturday afternoon, and if I wasn't in such good company, I would have certainly preferred being curled up in bed with a good book. As it started to rain, we ducked under the overhanging roof at Bite, sat down on their retro barstools, and instead of brooding over our distinct lack of an umbrella, we began working on an alternative plan. In the process, I realized I was quite hungry, and after quickly surveying the menu, I ordered their sandwich with portobello mushrooms sauteed in balsamic vinegar. This being one of my favorite combinations, I went ahead and took a chance on this slightly sketchy looking place. Though I would have wanted it on wheat bread, they didn't ask, so it was served on panini bread. I have to admit, this is the second-best sandwich I've ever had -- and a very close second, at that. (See my review of The Counter Cafe in Austin, Texas, if you're interested in the best sandwich I've ever had.) Still, everything about this was very nearly perfect. The bread was toasty, the mushrooms were warm and moist, and the greens were crisp. Everything was perfectly packed in between the pieces of bread, which made it easy to eat, despite the fact it had the potential of being one of those sandwiches that end up more on your clothes than in your mouth. It was so filling that I couldn't eat the second half, but I wrapped it back up and saved it for later. I love bite!!!! Since it was right next to my office for awhile, I ended up going there about 3 times a week - and I never got sick of it. The paninis are awesome and you can get them on whole wheat - try the salami with fresh mozzarella, its ridiculous. My favorite by far is the Middle Eastern turkey - ask for it spicy, and toasted on wheat bread. It has hummus and other yummy things inside. They have good iced coffee too, and soy milk and splenda (perfection). They always have good music playing outside too so you can dance a little while you're waiting in line. hahaha.
