We opted to eat here when we realized the old Marche Port had been demolished across the street (insert all of my sadness and disappointment here). We were short on time before catching our cruise and thought it would be ideal to sit on their patio and soak in the cycling race that conveniently whizzed by their building. The staff was friendly and gracious with our short time frame and the fact that we rolled onto the patio with two strollers and all of our luggage. We ordered the veggie burger that came with a side salad and an order of the beer battered onion rings served with honey. The star of the show was the side salad served with the burger. It definitely wasn't an afterthought- the kale greens were accompanied by shredded beets, carrots and tomatoes. It was the perfect match for the veggie burger. Nice selection of wine by the glass, half bottle or full bottle are available as well as a full bar. I opted for a Seafood Risotto for my entree, perfectly cooked with shrimp, scallops and tuna. The shrimp and scallops were small but plentiful and tasty. My wife had a pork tenderloin with Chimichurri, fries and vegetables. As a person with celiac, having a restaurant that had more than a few options for me at was amazing (they are completely gluten free). My father also enjoyed the food even though he himself is not celiac. He could not even tell the difference. He recommends the crème brûlée and even called it "the crème of the crème" and "Will I come back? Que-betchya!". Our waitress, Annabelle, was great. UNREAL NEVER COMING BACK. First off we sat right night to the heater and we were sweating. She warned us that it would be 30 to 45 minutes for the food so she said we should get appetizers so we did. The appetizers took about 30 minutes to make and we're ok I've seen better. Then after 10 minutes she said the food will be 5 minutes because someone had a fish allergy and had to clean the whole place. She said 5 minutes I think she meant to say 25 minutes. My food was burnt and gross I got a burger and it was dry and gross the fries were ok. My sister and my mom got salmon linguine and they said it had no taste and. And my burger is wanted normal cheese but they didn't have I had to have mild cheddar. As an English-only speaking gluten-free American, I am glad to report I had no problems with a language barrier, or with getting a nice gluten-free meal here. This restaurant is an absolute must for any gluten free person. To have an entire menu accessible to me is a luxury I have not had since diagnosed with celiac ~15 years ago. The owner, Mary, is an absolute gem. She made the whole experience very lovely. The food was also incredible. We had fried calamari, fish and chips, and a Cajun burger (paradise for a celiac). Delicious. Friendly. Attractive small restaurant that is totally gluten free (with the exception of a few beverage options). Finding GF food in Quebec was much harder than in the U.S so this restaurant was especially appreciated. It offers all sorts of dishes that everyone will enjoy but GF people rarely can find (onion rings, fish and chips!). The poutine was the least interesting item we tried; crepes, our favorite of the main courses. Wide choice of beverages. Save some room if their chocolate cake is on the dessert board. Came here for a GF breakfast. It was refreshing to have a GF option for breakfast. The wild mushroom, duck crepes were outstanding - the oatmeal floured crepes were flavorful and soft, encompassing sauted mushrooms and large pieces of duck. That with the savory potatoes were an excellent way to start the Quebecois day. Similarly, the duck omelette, was a very Francophone start to a day or walking around Vieux Quebec. We did not stay at the hotel but we came here for breakfast. It is the worst place you can find in Quebec City. Waitress walked by and hit our table, our coffee was spilled all over. The waitress did not acknowledge it and just kept it walking while my husband was trying to clean a table. We ordered duck, but the waitress came back telling us that it will come with pork, and we don't eat pork. A good thing she let us change the order. The waitress was inattentive and did not offer any coffee refills nor even come to the table except to bring food. The food was tasty but lack of service put a damper on the whole experience. I was exceptionally pleased with my two dinners here. The first night, duck with wild mushrooms, salad and fries, nice glass of wine and amazing chocolate cake! All gluten free!! I can't tell you the few, and far between times that I have been out for a meal and not had to worry about cross contamination. If you have Food Allergies or Intolerances this place is incredible! Even if you don't, everyone in my family loved the food here. I have a very restricted diet, not only to gluten and wheat, but dairy, soy, coconuts, random fruits, etc. etc. and Le Veravin was able to accommodate me - when it is almost Always so difficult to find a place I trust to eat out these days. I ate here with my family for breakfast and dinner for practically every meal for the week we were in Quebec City, and I did not get sick once after eating here. it was truly a blessing finding this place. The first time I've been able to eat out 'normally' and not feel like I was eating differently from everyone else in a very long time, and the food was great! My family also loved their meals, so it was a win win for everyone! My only criticism is the service was inconsistent, and some nights it took a very long time to get our meals. Okay, I don't get why this place doesn't have more reviews. It's wonderful. We ate breakfast here twice. Really good both times. Lots of choice. Then came here one afternoon for drinks. That was a win situation too. Nice, relaxing atmosphere. Last day in town, came here for dinner. Both of us had duck confit with goat cheese salad (goat cheese was an accommodation) and frites. I've had lunch there two times and while it was good, nothing to rave about for the price. The duck confit salad was a bit lacking in flavor. The mushroom risotto I had the 2nd time was much better. For a restaurant called "Veravin," the wine selection was actually very limited. We had a French Côte du Rhone which ended up being excellent but just expected a bigger selection. Dessert is amazing! One MUST try the Sortilege crepes! The sauce is so amazing you just want to eat it with a spoon! It has maple syrup, a hint of salt, and finished with Quebec's famous Sortilege liquor! I had the house soup. Cauliflower bacon garlic soup. It was Ok, except it would have tasted better with some heat to it. It was literally cold. Not impressed. I ordered the regular burger and my girlfriend had the Penne with vegetables and Goat cheese. It only took 50 mins for the food to come out. My girlfriend was ready to walk out. Which we should have done. Her pasta came out rock hard, she couldn't eat it, the waiter had to bring it back and get her a new plate. In the meantime I ate my Ok burger which came with a salad and over fried thin french fries. They were extremely hard, but after waiting 50 mins you'll eat anything. When the $20 pasta came out. It was ok, my girlfriend made sure to point out that 4 slices of mushrooms, 6 slices of zucchini, does not make for a great vegetable pasta. Overall disappointed given all the great reviews. BE EXTRA CAREFUL AND BE AWARE Overall this restaurant is great, great food, great service and a lovely location. However, my family and I came to this restaurant because we heard great things about their gluten-free menu. Le Veravin sells themselves as a '95% Gluten-Free restaurant'. Although they sell themselves like that, in the restaurant it self it says to be a 100% gluten-free restaurant. My family and I were extremely excited to go there and have a great meal for my brother, who has celiacs disease, after a while. Our first meal at Le Veravin was in the evening, and we did not have any problems with my brother having to need a gluten-free meal. However, as we were staying in Quebec for 2 night; we were planning to go back for every meal since it was said to be a 100% gluten free restaurant. Because we ate there the night before, we assumed that what ever we had ordered, would be gluten free and that the owner would know we were gluten free since we had a nice talk with him the night before. We got the meals, which weren't as good as dinner, and it all looked fine. While eating my mother asked if the bread was actually a 100% gluten free because it was delicious. As soon as she asked that the waitress started to hesitate and asked her colleague. Her colleague came back telling us that she just gave a 12 year old who has celiacs disease gluten. They did apologize and we did not have to pay the meals, but my brother was about to get extremely ill, so we left immediately and never came back. Despite the fact that they basically poisoned a celiacs disease person, the food was very good. read more
