After taking the funicular down from the upper city, we wandered the old town and found Le Pape Georges. It was on my list to try and we discovered it on umbrella alley. We were seated on the patio and our very sweet server was right out to take our drink order. Since we are eating Poutine all over Canada in search of our favorite. We so enjoyed sitting on the patio, it was a beautiful day, we were people watching and enjoying the umbrellas place up the alley. Our poutine was delivered to the table and I can honestly say it was our favorite. The fries were crunch and creamy on the inside. The gravy was rich and had a deep flavor and the cheese curds had lightly melted. Every bite was perfect. The eatery and bar are tucked into a stone house that dates back to 1668, if only the walls could talk. The bar and restaurant feature local Quebec cuisine and is a gem. The service was excellent as was the atmosphere.

We wandered around old Quebec City and felt lucky to find Le Pape George's on umbrella alley- which right now has hockey sticks. We had 9 people and they sat 5 at a table and 4 at the bar and we were completely fine with the arrangement. It is quaint and small and we could see our family and even shared some food since we Were close enough. The cheese fondue is not to be missed . It was absolutely the perfect start to our meal. Then we shared an original poutine and it also was delicious- best I had on our trip thus far! I ordered mussels for my meal and a steaming pot arrived and they were yummy. Ambiance and service were great. They accommodated our awful French attempts. Drinks were large. Honestly, I feel lucky to have dined here. Everything was wonderful!

After a long days drive from of walking- both upper and lower parts of old downtown Quebec ended up here. Patio on nice summer day, some draft beers and great people watching. Good service.

I was determined to find a wine bar to visit during our time in Quebec City and someone pointed me here. Despite being October it was nice enough out that we could eat on their patio, which was very small but charming. I didn't see the inside. We had a couple glasses of wine as well as cheese and charcuterie boards. It was exactly what I was looking for, though I do wish trying wine flights was an option.

What a great place! Came on recommendation from my hotel for their poutine! It did not disappoint! Very authentic. Service was great. It is very cozy inside. Definitely recommend

A little stiff staff who reversed to English even when spoken to in French. There is indoor and outdoor seating but nearly no one sat inside due to the nice ambiance of the outdoor seating. It's rather small with only a few tables both inside and out - many of the outdoor tables are in direct sun even with the umbrellas. Tables outside are right next to a beautiful walkway decorated with hanging colorful umbrellas which makes for a spot for instagram photos - many people stopped and took photos while we were eating. Indoors is very dark and has a few tables and a bar. There is also a small restroom inside. Fondue appetizer - excellently done, if a little on the greasy side. Served with a side of bread cubes and you can add on a sausage. The sausage is impeccable, but I would've preferred an option to add a plate of veggies/fruits as well. Topped with a single pecan. They also carry peroni and serve them in lovely tall glasses. Light and airy beer. House salad is so fresh and comes with a lovely vinaigrette and a lovely mix of pecans and dried cranberries. Highly recommend this.

Enjoyed some whiskey while sitting on the lovely patio. Service was friendly and quick. Ambience is welcoming - inside is a small and cozy. Highly recommend this place as it is 'ever so slightly' off the beaten path.

This place is the real deal. Simple cheese plate with so much happening in an old low wooden ceiling space. Marinated red onion on spring greens with cheese called CHEVAL NOIR DE L'ISLE - one of the best I've ever tried - ashed bloody rind for a semi-soft cheese goodness. Also, smallest kitchen Ive ever seen and the Chilean chef does his thing!

The best cheese fondue Do not miss the beer sausage Original stone and wood work dating the 1600s Professional service that was tolerant of my poor attempt of speaking French.

Classic poutine

A small pub in "Umbrella Alley", featuring a small, but great selection of food, with a wide variety of drinks. We had the classic poutine, and a board with sausage, sauerkraut, liver pate and smoked meat. Both dishes were great, and service was quick and friendly.

Stopped in for a beer on a mid afternoon weekday in February. Beautiful stone walls, it is like you are entering a cave. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a couple of local craft beers. Very friendly staff. We didn't have anything to eat but did admire the small cooking area. Wow!

Cheese board

This place was perfect to stop in and have a drink and appetizer while touring old Quebec! The waitstaff was so attentive, it was a lovely experience.

The perfect place to stop when the skies suddenly open up and soak you as you are walking down! Parking: ummmm.. why would you drive here? Place: It's a pub. Obviously havent been updated in a while but the that's what all the good pubs are like :) There are 2 sections I sat in the back part, the front was filled with customers who had been sitting out under those umbrellas before the rain came . Lots of different sized tables. Ooh they have a shelf full of board games. Food: I don't drink but they have lots of craft beers and the couple next to me loved the amount they had on tap. When I first walked in the waitress walked by with what looked like a giant lasagna with salad and I thought oh I want that. When I looked at the menu I realized they don't have lasagna and I figured it must be the croques Monsieur. So that is what I ordered and that is exactly what came. It was very generous and full of cheese which was toasted golden brown it was really good. The salad was good too really fresh the dressing was good. I'm glad I chose it. Staff was nice. They spoke both French and English depending on what you were more comfortable with. I stumbled through French because I'm in Quebec I should speak French. It was a really casual vibe it was like a nice little oasis I had been walking a lot that day and it was just relaxing and chill. Would totally go again. I really like the food. I mean there's a thousand other reasons to be in the area but in the area I would stop there

The staff was friendly and accommodating. They immediately offered water to my dog. They were also attentive, but seemed to be a bit scatter-brained at times. Food was good. Bar food. Can't complain. You didn't feel horrible eating it. Quite filling and tasty actually. Yes, it's in the middle of a heavy traffic area. It may seem like a tourist trap, but it isn't. Worth a stop of a good bite while going through the city.

There was a jazz trio playing -- two elderly men on guitar and bass, and a younger fellow on the drums. They were rocking it. The crowd got pretty into it too, applauding the solos, swaying, and tapping their feet, without really getting disruptive. It's a good environment for this sort of music. A lot of jazz bands in bars and restaurants tend to sort of blend into the background, getting just a smattering of applause from the nearest table. It was nice both the musicians and patrons at Le Fou-Bar enjoying themselves. Besides the music, it seems like a pretty standard-issue bar. Not unpleasantly loud or crowded, even with the music. A bunch of beers on tap, mostly from Montreal's McAuslan brewery. The French reviews mention a large whiskey collection, but I didn't inspect it closely. I also saw a food menu, though I didn't see anyone eating from it, so it may be prudent to get your dinner elsewhere. The clientele seemed mostly local, and French-speaking, though the staff did speak more English than I spoke French. They did not seem to mind my non-Francais-parlezing ways. So basically, these five stars are not really for the food or drink or service (which seemed standard), but for being a fun, casual spot to listen to some good live music. From what I can decipher on the website, they have someone playing at 9pm every Tuesday.

It was empty when we arrived so we had our choice of seating, and our server was pretty patient with us while we figured out what to eat. I have seen reviews of this place where others have mentioned that it's not English speaking friendly, but in our experience that wasn't true. To be fair we did communicate in French, but of course English is easier for us to speak. Overall vibes of the place are pretty eccentric with a kind of rock and roll grunge vibe but they also had totems and other decorative pieces that gave a nod to Quebec's Native American people which was cool to see!

When I pushed the issue she finally let us in and it was hard to see what the hold up was and why we were told to wait ouside in the first place. There was a solid music group performing and there was a nice selection of drinks and food on the menu.
