Located in the heart of Old Quebec City the pub is in a building that was an old storage brick cellar in the 1700's. We wanted a light lunch and wanted to try the french onion soup , since it was highly recommended. The soup was good, but not the best. The broth is made with red ale and was a little salty. There was so much cheese, it ended up being a bowl of melted cheese. My daughter had the smoked meat sandwich - french bread , corned beef topped with mozzarella cheese. The cheese was a bit overpowering. They have a large variety of beers and several were local. We had the St Ambroise Rousse beer and fell in love! We had French onion soup which they are known for, fried Parmesan cheese which was amazing, and crab cakes that were quite good. The building is incredible, one of the oldest in Quebec. It had a nice outdoor seating area and the service was great. We went back twice during our stay in Quebec City. read more

This is apparently the second oldest bar in Quebec. Very cool underground brick structure, cool place to grab a drink and a quick small plate. Our server turned out to be the bartender, as well as the cook. No complaints for what it is, great historic place to have a drink and snack, but don't expect a full menu of scratch food. That's not what it is. Good snacks , small plates, and good French Onion soup. Go for a drink, and if you're hungry, there are a few decent options. read more

I ended my night at Oncle Antoine and I'm very glad I stopped by! The interior was beautiful and unique and I felt like many years of stories were deeply embedded in its walls. Not a single other customer came in during the 2 hours I was there, which made me sad because I would hate to see such an incredible place close due to lack of business. The beer was great, service was friendly, and I enjoyed the selection of games to play. Just a note, like many establishments in Old Town, the bathrooms are down many steps and are not accessible for those that can't use the staircase. Big shout out to the bartender who helped my drunk self call a cab so I didn't have to struggle back up the hills and steps to my hotel! read more

We loved spending a little time at this cozy bar, which we picked because it looks like an old cellar. But when we were there in mid-June, the weather was pretty hot, and they suggested it may be more comfortable to sit on the patio. We did that, and enjoyed some cold beers on a hot day. With most pints of beer, you can add a shot of Sortilege (Canadian whiskey with maple syrup) for a few Canadian dollars. We did that and were very pleased. When in Canada... drink shots? Anyway, the bartenders were all super friendly and tried to peer pressure us to drink more, which made us smile. We had to decline because we had dinner plans. But this is a fun place to stop for a drink in a very charming part of Quebec City! read more

The building itself is amazing: thick, stone walls, vaulted ceilings - no way anybody could ever build a place like this again. The fireplace is always going in winter and it smells great. I often go for a breakfast beer and maple whiskey shot in the morning, and Oncle Antoine's is the very best place in Quebec for that. It is 100% authentic - nothing hipster or fake about it. What a great place to get a drink in the city. Me and my husband stopped by here a couple times. Amazing atmosphere, great little bites to eat, and great beer. They've got a nice fire going and it's supposedly one of the oldest pubs in North America. Sat down and ordered a French onion soup and the Brie. French onion was okay. Looked delicious but it was a little watery and bland in taste. The Brie was good. Nice way to use the bread. Brie comes with a nice light salad. The hot chocolate didn't taste incredible but there was an abundance of whipped cream which was very tasty. We had the nachos (smoked meat and cheese and salsa), chicken wings (served with sour cream - these aren't Buffalo wings) and French onion soup (super cheesy). Food was typical pub quality. Located in the Old Port district, the walls of this place are 3-feet thick. Most of the buildings in this area were built in the early 1600s; for that reason alone its highly worth taking a stroll and stopping off at some of the sights... Its a small bar. Visiting Quebec City during the winter is a magical experience. Vieux Quebec is still decorated with holiday lights and twinkling snowflakes, snow banks are a mile high, creating further a sense of coziness and mystique, and folks everywhere are bundled up exploring. Winter Carnival brings even more people, ice sculptures everywhere, and did I mention more people? How perfect, then, was it to duck inside Le Pub de L'Oncle Antoine after a windy and raw (but highly recommended) trip on the ferry to experience the Saint Lawrence's ice floes. Chilled to the bone, my husband and I found refuge in the pub, located in Petit-Champlain and, lucky for us, got the two best seats at their small, intimate bar. Seating at a table wouldn't have left us feeling as cozy. The French onion soup was delicious. And while we had to wait a long time for it, our cheerful bartender, singing along to the set list of 80s tunes, made sure to make up for the wait with shots of maple whiskey, on the House. This service is what makes an establishment a gem. I would return in a heartbeat, both for the soup, the beer, the shots of Sortilege, but it will be hard to recreate the moment we had, cozied up, escaping the chill and crowds in a little pocket of refuse at this intimate bar. read more
