Wow! I can't believe we just found this place. It's a family owned place on Main Street in Flemington. The food was excellent! Starting with the bread and appetizers. We had a sampler of their spreads ( think Mediterranean but tastier! ) . Our favorite was the Egyptian eggplant spread, but they were all great. I had Branzino in which was perfectly cooked with a tasty lemon caper sauce. My husband had a seafood sampler. He loved all of it, but said the shrimp was the best he's ever had. The owner who waited on us was delightful. We can't wait to go back and try the meats, falafel and other things on the menu. Don't miss this place! So Happy we found this great restaurant in the heart of Flemington. With my cousin from Seattle in town, we were hoping to find something a bit different than the typical Hunterdon County fare. We were not disappointed. The menu offered a large variety of choices at reasonable prices. For starters we had spanakopita and baba ganoush which were fantastic. For dinner, the greek salad and seafood salads were both very good. The seafood was very fresh with ample portions. The baklava was great for dessert. My husband and I got takeout for the first time today, and every single item was absolutely fabulous. I got the Vegan Dish, which is SO MUCH food and every bit of it delicious. The falafel is some of the best I've ever had. My husband's lamb kebab was excellent, the lamb was perfectly seasoned and cooked. All in all, we are thrilled to have Bistro 55 as a new and very welcome addition to the neighborhood, I have a feeling we will be eating here often! read more

Was looking forward to trying this new restaurant that occupies the same space as a previous restaurant in town; the new menu looked really good, so although it never looked busy when we would drive by, we thought it was worth a try. Yes, the restaurant is new, but they have been advertising that they are open and serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On a Saturday night around 6 p.m., we walked in and only 2 tables were occupied, all the others were empty. This seemed very odd, but we proceeded to enter. There was a person at the front register, who barely looked up as he continued whatever he was doing on the register. Finally, after standing for several minutes, he left his computer register and seated us without saying a word. Another young person brought a skimpy bread basket (2 pieces) to our table without saying anything. That is the last time anyone came back to our table after 20 minutes had elapsed. We waited and waited, and watched the man at the register running back and forth to the kitchen, but not once did he or the other guy speak to us. It was clear that something wasn't going right, and we felt there must be problems in the kitchen, and/or not sufficient staff. We sat a little bit longer, and decided that if in the next few minutes, no one came to take our order, or provide us with wine glasses (we clearly had a bottle of wine at our table), we would leave. Unfortunately, that's exactly what we did. We were so very disappointed that the service was so disgraceful, and that we never got to try the food. The restaurant should not even be open if the people working there can't greet, seat, and service their guests in a timely and friendly manner. This is by far, the worst service, we have ever experienced. It is the 1st time we have ever walked out of a restaurant without being served. Saturday nights are generally the busiest time for restaurants; we knew when we saw it mostly empty that there must be a reason. We gave it a chance nevertheless. We will never know whether or not the food is good, but we will never again waste our time there given our recent experience. So sorry to write a poor review, as we wanted to enjoy our dining experience. But instead, we were very disappointed. If this restaurant is to survive in town, they will need to clean up their act. read more

the food was very bland and to be honest the service was nice but it didnt take away the money i spent to feel like i ate food from a school cafeteria. it saddens me to even write this review since ive heard so many great things about this place, to make matters worse the bathroom was not clean which made my experience that much more annoying. how can the food be bland nd the restaurant be on the unclean side of town lol. not to laugh but its usually either or good food but dirty place or bad food and the place was clean. for a lack of better words im highly disappointed and i wont be returning nor will i recommend this place to anyone i know read more

We did take out at 2:30 pm which may explain the poor review relative to the previous ones. firstly, the pita accompanying the spicy feta were four triangles no more than two inches each. if you order spicy feta know that it is dry, not moist. the lamb kebob sandwich was "ok". Maybe one shouldnt otder mexican food but it was on the menu so we did. unfortunately there was so little cheese and meat on the quesadillas that there were parts of the inside of the tortilla that were dry and had no cheese or meat on it. just a heads up that the time you go may make a big difference in the quality of the food you receive. read more

My new favorite spot in Flemington for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything we've tried so far has been fresh, well prepared and delicious. I really like Middle Eastern food. I especially like the Avocado salad with bits of beef bacon, onion, mixed greens and tomato with house dressing. Have also tried Lamb skewers which were well seasoned and tender and Rosemary Chicken which was delicious and perfectly cooked. All soups tried, hearty and tasty. Guacamole with pita also fresh and very good. Generous portion sizes as well. Proprietor Mo is a friendly and welcoming person, ambience feels respectfully casual and welcoming. My wife and I had the pleasure of enjoying an amazing dinner at Bistro 55 with two close friends. The owner, Moe, introduced himself and recommended a number of things on the menu. We limited our choices to his selections and were glad we did. We had the Three Pyramids and the Spanakopta appies. They were excellent and the portions so large we got to take some home. The Spicy Feta choice for the Three Pyramids earns an 11 on a scale of 10. For our main courses we had Lemon Chicken, Five Seekh, the Kofta Kebob and the Skirt Steak. Everyone was very happy with their choices and again the portions were large enough that I looked forward the next day to having the left overs for lunch. The service was outstanding, the restaurant was clean and well appointed and the owner was very appreciative of our business. This is a new restaurant replacing the iconic 55 Main (no small feat) but if other businesses in Flemington follow this example of high quality and white golve service then hopefully they will thrive as the redevelopment of the downtown comes to fruition. read more
