my chicken caprese roll with the truffle fries!
    Jacob L.

Spent a night at Harrahs Valley River and found this cute spot in town! It was about 10 minutes from the casino, and parking was ample on the town streets. We made a reservation, which ended up being smart because it was pretty packed! My dad and I grabbed a local beer from the bar and then sat down at our booth. Menu for the night is attached, we got the Peach Wings to start and they were pretty tasty! Then for the meal itself, dad built his own burger and I got myself a chicken caprese roll. We both got truffle fries with our sammies. The burger was aight, but my chicken sandwich was a lot more bread than sandwich which was a bummer. The biggest caveat was the staff preparedness, we were asked to close out our bill mid meal because of machine problems, so we ordered dessert early (the bread pudding), and they ended up being out of the ice cream and sauce, so we had to get a refund! Other than that kerfuffle, this place was an adorable addition to our one night trip. The hostess and bartender were both so sweet as well! Would try here again, but likely would eat earlier than our 7:45pm reservation time!

Enjoying cocktails on tables/chairs out front.

Great service. Awesome food. And atmosphere suitable for casual or semi dressy. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.

My absolute favorite restaurant. A small but wonderful list of entrees. Then add on the great sides and a well made cocktails. It can't get any better! Every time I visit the food is cooked perfect. The staff, they're amazing! They couldn't be more friendly and accommodating. If you visit sit in the seat my wife and I enjoy the most, the one in the windowed corner with all the pillows, and people watch while you eat!

Quiet little place right in the middle of downtown Murphy with a bar on one side and tables on the other. Service was quick, friendly, helpful and went above and beyond when she asked if she could get her Bread Pudding wrapped to take home, they deconstructed it, gave her all the ingredients individually wrapped and gave her instruction on how to put it together and cook at home. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the lobster tail, she had the Crispy Brussels and Pistachio Berry salad. The lobster tail was perfect and I don't know what that crab mixture they put on top of it is, but I could eat a plate of that by itself. She said the brussels were the best she's ever eaten and she devoured the salad as well. HIGHLY recommend Bistro 29!! It is NOT cheap, so be prepared for that, but worth every dime.

This place is absolute crap, we will NEVER be back here. This is what was said to me when I simply requested an updated menu. The new management has no clue...too bad, this place used to be good.

Delectable if not annoyingly an odd number of chef's special eggs - these beauties were pimento cheese n bacon

Foodie alert! Classy? ...not quite. Shabby chic? this is! ...HOWEVER what they may lack in ambience and decor in the restaurant section, they more than make up for in food and great wine and really, isn't that the point? For the second time in as many yelps in this tiny mountain town of Murphy NC. this may be one of the best meals we have ever had. Holy Moly if this town highlighted the great restaurants to 'Foodies' they certainly wouldn't have to count on the casino (why we came). We started with the Chef's special 'stuffed' eggs as they were 50% off on Yelp - thank you Yelp! for providing a platform that encourages us to add another layer to our already burgeoning menu desires. Today's offerings were splendiferorous. Pimento cheese n' bacon. Not too much that they overpowered the egg, rather just enhanced it. I firmly commit to going home and trying to duplicate these tasty little critters. Also, just as an aside, even though it may be considered artsy to plate 3 half eggs, we know there is another half floating around back there, so when there are an even number of guests, why short us? Thankfully it was just us so we split the 3rd half. However, should there have been others it would have been the same as double dipping and the last half would have been left, nobody wanting it & awkward moments created. Please plate the other half! Then the Blue Ridge Olive Oil co. Chose Bistro 29 to hawk their wares and very cleverly so. Although the bread rolls were not good (cold and hard), the divine combination of lemon zest and garlic oil paired with lavender balsamic was genius. We will be going to Blue Ridge OO co. tomorrow to pick up some, not only for us, but folks we will be visiting next month. Yep, THAT good. I then had the Diver Scallops and hubby had the Duroc Pork Chop. I'm not a grits kinda gal so Bistro 29 graciously allowed me to substitute mashed taters. Oh my giddy aunt! What a meal! I can't believe I am about to say that such scallops can be found in such a tiny mountain town but they were and are! You cannot go wrong ordering these. Crisp with a lovely grilled flavor on the exterior and moist meaty heavenly orbs on the interior. Now top with capers for heaven's sake and sit them on a bed of mild greens with celery? Oooh, 'nuff said! :) Hubby said he believed his pork chop had to compare because he too was beyond satisfied. Not a man of many words this is a HUGE thumbs up! This is long so I must wind it up with the wine ;). For $8 I cannot remember having any wine as good as their Malbec. Seriously, not since we spent a week in Mendoza going to all the wineries. Stupendous! Now imagine The Great Satchmo, Frank Sinatra and possibly Rosemary Clooney in the background and you have pretty good idea of a close to perfect evening. Plan to spend the evening and savor every bite and moment. A complete home run!

Wow! What an awesome place with a great feel and even better food. Our family ordered wings, sushi, salad, potato wedges and the amazing halibut. It was all incredible. My sons loved the surprise snacks from the sushi chef. Our server, Anna, was equally amazing. We will be back !

Just purchased a vacation home in the Murphy area. Have visited twice and both times went to Bistro 29. It will be a regular event when we come. The atmosphere is relaxing, the food is fantastic and the staff are very friendly & welcoming. Had an opportunity to meet the owners who are just as amazing!!!

We had heard of this place for a while and wanted to check it out and we're so glad we did. The food and service were amazing. Walking in it's a narrow restaurant, that has a bar on one side and tables on the other with kinda a rustic feel to it. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Since we hadn't been there before we got water and then pursued the menu a little for drinks. I had a question between two drinks and the server was very good at describing the drinks and ultimately decided to try the Darryl Strawberry, while my husband got the Nor'easter. The drinks came out and they were really good. They weren't overly strong, you could taste the bourbon in each of them, but it wasn't overpowering. For food we got the OPA! to start and then the Billy for me and the Mother Clucker for him. The OPA was awesome. It's pan seared feta with honey and served with fresh bread. The honey added a little extra sweetness to the feta which went really nicely with the crusty bread. The Billy had goat cheese, bacon, onions and, a tomato jam on it. It was delicious. The creamy goat cheese with the bacon and smokey tomato jam all went amazingly together. I got onion rings as my side, which were crunchy hot and so so good. The Mother Clucker was also really good. I only had a bite of it to try, but was definitely impressed. My husband upgraded to the duck fat fries which were out of this world. Super crunchy, great flavor. Our server kept checking back on us the whole time making sure we were satisfied with our drinks and food, but we had absolutely no complaints. This is a great place for a date if you want good food or to hang out with friends. We will definitely be back.

Not Watson's? More Like... Not Worth It…read more Sometimes in life you have to listen to that inner voice. The one that quietly nudges you in another direction. The one I ignored today when I chose Not Watson's instead of following my true spirit to the Old City for a vegan tamale that had been pressing on my psyche all morning. But I ignored it. So here we are. This happened Wednesday, March 4, 2026. I was downtown on Market Square for a business meeting. The weather was nice, I had already paid to park, and the craving for fish and chips got the best of me. Not Watson's was close, so it seemed like the logical choice. But when the vibe is off... the vibe is off. Around 1:05 PM there was a line at the door. One party of four, two additional parties of two, and then me -- the solo diner. While we were standing there waiting, two women from one of the parties asked if I was waiting on someone. When I told them no, they kindly invited me to sit with them. A thoughtful gesture. But I declined. Maybe if I had accepted, I might have received better service. Ah yes... the small pitfalls of solo dining. What made things odd was that the place didn't even appear busy. Several different servers came to the front to seat people, but there was no hostess and tables still needed to be cleaned before anyone could sit. I almost left. My instincts were already whispering, go get that tamale instead. But the pull for fish and chips was strong, so I thought, forget it -- I'll wait. When my turn finally came I was asked, "Outside? High-top? Or a table in the back?" Well damn. It felt a little like I was being strategically placed out of sight, so I chose the table in the back. Walking through the restaurant I again noticed it really wasn't busy. Then I sat. And sat. Ten minutes went by with no greeting, no water, no acknowledgment. So I did what anyone would do -- I watched the TV in front of me. At that point the urge to leave was getting stronger, but me being me thought, let me give this another second. That's when a gentleman from the kitchen came over. He introduced himself and said he noticed no one had waited on me yet and didn't want me sitting there hungry, so he took my order. He mentioned my server would come by shortly. Spoiler alert: my server never actually showed up. I later learned my server was also bartending. Eventually my food arrived -- three pieces of fish, fries, and coleslaw (which unfortunately had absolutely no flavor). By this point I was hungry, so I dug in. First problem: the fish was fried way too hard, almost burnt. Second problem: the fries were so salty they could probably raise your blood pressure on sight. But the real issue? The fish had zero taste. None. If the fish had actually tasted good, crispy or otherwise, I probably would have eaten it anyway. But this was like chewing overcooked cardboard. When the gentleman came back, I showed him the fish and he immediately saw the problem. He said he would alert the kitchen. He kindly offered a complimentary dessert (declined) and offered to have the fish and chips remade (also declined). At that point I had lost my appetite. When the check arrived, it was half-price. Now here's where the math didn't quite math. You were willing to remake the entire meal, yet I paid half price for a plate where I ate one piece of fish and a few fries, after spending most of my visit waiting to be acknowledged. So I paid my $9, left a tip, and got the heck out of there. As I was leaving he said, "Hopefully we'll get it right next time." Next time? I left just as hungry as I arrived. The only silver lining of the entire experience was remembering I had half a Butterfinger sitting in my desk drawer back at work. Now that lit me up. Unfortunately, between the awkward service, the overcooked fish, and leaving just as hungry as I came, this is one fish-and-chips stop I won't be revisiting.
