We looked on yelp and it said they were closed...untrue, and so happy it was open, we had the combo platter and the Jaeger schnitzel with potato dumplings, Let's start with the service, 10/10 we were the only ones in as we arrived around 4:30 on a Sunday, was told everything is made fresh so there might be a little wait, food came within 10 minutes of order, Combo plate hade 4 different pierogies, 1 large piece of kielbasa and 1 large cabbage roll, all were amazing, the pierogi had such a delicate shell that I am surprised it didnt break when cooking, the kielbasa had great flavor and a nice snap for the casing and the stuffed cabbage was delicious, the Jaeger Schnitzel was delicious , crisp and flavorful and the potato dumplings were a nice light side that paired well. We tend to seek out Polish food when on vacation and were pleasantly surprised and will return when we return to the Helen area! read more

Came today for lunch. Menu was hand written due to being "temporaly" Ordered the pierogi platter, a beer and 2 waters. It was crazy hot inside, I guess they don't have a working ac. We never received our waters, food was served on paper plates, pierogi platter had only 3 real pierogi, the other 4 have a mushroom sauerkraut filling. While visiting Helen, we chose to stop into Heidi Haus because of its Polish options. The ambiance wasn't what we were expecting, but we decided to stay because the guy working was friendly. While the food was tasty, the service was a little tough because they apparently had a few call outs, so we didn't get offered basic things like water, and he said he was going to bring over sharing plates but never did. As someone who's Polish, the pierogi and stuffed cabbage got my seal of approval, but the kielbasa on the pierogi platter could have been better. read more

Wouldn't know..we tried to get a table for lunch and they decided to abruptly stop serving in the middle of the afternoon during Oktoberfest. It might not be fair to only give them two stars as their food might be awesome but the staff was rude. The food at peoples tables looked mediocre at best and I noticed two tables with plates more than half full pushed off to the side. I'm gonna say most of the restaurants in the area have terrible reviews bc I believe they rely heavily on the "tourist" factor. Out of all of them, this one did have the highest review at the time which is why we chose it. But the service turned us away immediately. I understand it's Octoberfest in lil Germany USA, but don't be rude to your customers bc you weren't prepared :/ read more

Naturally, sharing the same name with the establishment, I had to give it a try! It's a small cafe/restaurant located above one of the souvenir shops in the heart of Helen. I ordered the pierogis, sausage and the Jäger schnitzel, which were all made to order. You can hear the chef pounding the pork in the kitchen so it doesn't get fresher than that! Everything was delicious, fresh and appropriately portioned. When the owner found out my name was Heidi, he gave me a free beer, which was very nice of him. We spoke to the owner (who is also the chef) who gave us a background on where's from and how he came to plant roots in this adorable German town. 5 stars all around! read more

Literally a horrible experience. We walked in and were snapped at to sit down. The bar area was a total mess. Like flies buzzing around, trash everywhere. If that was what front of house looked like I can only imagine what it looked like in the back. There were seemingly only two staff members-- someone working both the bar and kitchen and a waitress. There were only 4 menu items available. There was a family who had been seated ahead of us and they got their food after us. The waitress shorted them a menu item or two and argued with them about it, then got snappy when they asked the items they didn't receive be taken off of their bill. I was appalled for them. When we went to pay for our own food the employee smacked the check down aggressively. They also had Y2K bangers playing which normally I'd be down for, but it was already overstimulating. Hidden gem! Stumbled across this place during Oktoberfest. It was upstairs on Main Street by a very overcrowded Biergarten. Food was excellent. Pierogi had great flavor- soft and creamy but not too greasy. Kielbasa packed flavor, and the kraut and cabbage was crunch with great acidity. Seating options included tables and bar seating. The view was great from the bar. Our host made easy conversation and recommended lunch selections. Soon they plan to have beer and wine available again, hope that works out. Until we return, I'm on the hunt for some of the dark beer mustard. read more

Hubby had a draft pull of Spaten and we appreciated the warmth inside the restaurant on a cold afternoon. On the down side, the bathroom needs attention. EDIT: The owner sent me a message claiming I am lying about my wait time, I have hundreds of reviews and don't lie in my reviews. Changing my review to 1 star instead of 2 because of this. GOOD FOOD, BAD EVERYTHING ELSE! As a Polish girl, I was excited to come have some Polish food and beer. Even though there is beer listed on the menu, we were told that they don't have any beer because they are trying to get a liquor license. I'm confused because I see previous reviews with pictures of beer. Anyways, they don't even give you free water, and we had to pay for a bottle of water. We ordered one plate of pierogi to share, and after about an hour, the waitress brought our check, even though we hadn't even gotten our food. When we told her we hadn't gotten food, she said the cook is still working on it. We got our food about 10 minutes later, meaning, he barely started working on it when we mentioned we hadn't gotten our food. Then our waitress brought our check again after we had only had a couple of bites, she really wanted to get us out of there. No one asked how we were doing or if we needed anything. I will say the pierogies were very good and it tasted authentic. I probably would not be back, and try to find a different Polish restaurant, or just eat German food when I am in the town of Helen. read more

While visiting Helen, GA, we stopped in here for lunch. Decided to opt for their outdoor dining upstairs which is the key move. Great for people watching and the ambiance. Does feel like you've been transported to Germany. Started with the pretzel, which is a must, then to the schnitzel and Ruben as our mains. Schnitzel was kinda okay but the Ruben was the star. So flavorful! Service was decent. We had a different server from the others around us and felt they were getting more attention, specifically because we didn't get our beers until after our mains arrived and then felt she wanted to flip the table quick. We tried Heidi House last night when we were in town to see the Christmas lights of Helen. Heidi House had slightly higher ratings on Yelp and Google than other German food restaurants. For those in a hurry, I rated Heidihouse a 4 because the ambiance and bathroom are not great. But, the food was amazing. The food gets a 5+, the service a 4.5 and the ambiance a 3. It all adds up to a 4.5 but Yelp only allows one digit ratings. Details of the visit follow. Even though they have fewer reviews , we gave them a shot because I always balance quantity with quality. It was worth the risk. The restaurant is upstairs so you have to climb a few stairs and upon entrance, the ambiance is very underwhelming. But, the food reviews were great so we stayed. I ordered the Jagerschnizel. It was awesome. The breading was flavorful and crispy and the pasta and mushroom gravy elevated the flavor another notch. It is possible Heidi Houses Jagerschnitzel is the best in Helen, maybe in Georgia. My wife had the dumplings with mushroom gravy, called PYZY, which is Polish. She loved it. All in all, it was a good experience with excellent tasting food and hospitable service. 4.5 read more

Thought we'd give this place a try after reading the reviews. It is a small little eatery that is upstairs of a store front. We were greeted quickly and allowed to sit where we pleased. We ordered the perogies and sausage. I can say we were pleased. It was delicious. The only ding is that they were in the process of renewing their beer/liquor license. No beer with the perogies. Do your self a favor and make it a stop on your trip! We happen to walk by and it was open. We haven't had pierogis in a long time. So we decided to give it try. These were best we've had. They were so good and creamy with a slight crunch from the pan searing. The kielbasa was perfectly seasoned and the sauerkraut was delicious as well. Portion sizes for asking 25 dollars for a meal are really lackluster, they skimp out on the sides of potato salad, beets, and kraut, if you're gonna charge that much to customers at the very least let us leave full. The main stuffed schnitzel itself was good but for that much money it's a terrible deal. The service was good, the server was nice. The kitchen took a long time on the food for a basically empty place it was just us and another two person table. The AC unit on the wall was covered in grime. A very small place with great potential with the current owner/operators as of jan02,24. Time for a fresh German makeover! Perfect for couples or small groups. The food is very good. Liquor license is not updated so coke or water. Please clean the windows inside and out!!! Get rid of the long bar and put in more window seating! That bar is big, ugly and useless. We were in Helen on vacation and stopped in here because we were wanting some pierogis and kielbasa. We actually found this place on accident, it's up above some shops but the food was AMAZING. It was everything we were looking for, the owner was the only one there serving and cooking and let us know the kielbasa is fresh from Chicago and never packaged. We ate at a few places during our stay the typical burger/pizza/wing joints and this blew all of the out of the water! At first when you walk in, it's a little questionable just based on little decor/the curb appeal of places when you usually walk in but the food over looks that by a million. I'm so glad we gave it a try, we will continue to come back. They have another location in Blue Ridge as well. read more

I was excited to see that Georgia had a restaurant with pierogies! My husband had the wiener schnitzel and he loved it. My grandmother used to make pierogies and they taste just alike as the ones at Heidi Haus. I highly recommend this restaurant to any and every traveler.
