The food was good. I wasn't head over heels. But again, I believe it's a cultural thing. The service and atmosphere were absolutely incredible. I would definitely return.
Got the bauernwurst on a bun. It was really delicious especially with the sauerkraut. The sauerkraut was really sour though. Also tried their potato side which is good and the fries were good too. Not sure if the spatzle was not good or I just don't like it. Cute place, would come again
4 stars When I walked in I was greeted right away. Place was nice and clean. Waitress came right away to bring our drinks and they came out fast. Appetizers came out quickly and they were nice and hot. Service was attentive and our waitress was very friendly. Restaurant was in walking distance of the Hampton inn and it was in a very cute and detailed area. The bathrooms were clean and fresh. The food was a good price and the place had nice decorative items featuring a BUNCH of fun German items. I also asked for more applesauce for my potato pancakes and the waitress brought 3!!! I would definitely recommend and come back here!
Fantastic location, sadly the food is only soso. The first issue is that there are only the massive dinner portions unless you want a sandwich. If you and a friend are in the mood for the same thing then share a meal for sure. It would be nice if they had a lunch portion available. I ended up with a schnitzel sandwich which is basically just a friend chicken sandwich. It was fine for what it was. My friend got a Bauernwutsteller and it was not good. We had to send it back. The Kartoffelsalat was not very good either. Beer was good. Had high hopes, but alas not to be.
One of the few full German restaurants in Helen as you visit the lovely cute little town. Wanted to experience the full German experience and believe we got some. Located more on the northern end of the strip, The Heidelberg sits on a corner of the market with Oktoberfest in full effect outside and inside as this area is the most active and busiest section of the street. The restaurant has several levels you can be seated and has a stage on the top floor with live entertainment. Service was a bit slow for some unknown reason, but not overly horrible. The menu offers authentic German cuisine with many options for food and drinks. Food was good but not great as it was not memorable as expected. Lacking some flavors but the portions were fairly large. Overall, if you're looking for a nice experience for simple basic dining and entertainment, this is the spot!
Passing by Helen town this weekend and had to try some authentic German food. Not sure about authentic as I am not experienced in German cousine. I tried the reuben sandwich and was good. Had fries and a pickle with it. Fries were thick cut and not seasoned. I enjoyed my cold beer in their glass mug which you can buy for $45 and of course I only had the beer and did not buy the mug. Nothing special about it but I am sure comes in handy for Oktoberfest festivities at Helen Town. Carry your own mug around. My favorite part of the meal was the sausage with sauerkraut very good and really enjoyed it. The restaurant has live music they played Polka and they also did the Oktoberfest German cheer which was fun!
Very cozy German restaurant. We came through the back door because our party included people who couldn't climb stairs and the back way had a ramp. Arrived just after opening and we were seated immediately near a window. The menu is large with many variations on German sausage and other dishes. I had the schnitzel sandwich with French fries. The sandwich was served on rye bread with lettuce and tomato slice. It was as excellent as. The fried were limp and needed seasoning. I should have substituted something else. The staff was attentive and efficient. The restaurant played German dance music which was cheerful if repetitive. Lots of cuckoo clocks and other German style decor inside.
I have been to quite a few German restaurants, not only because I enjoy German food, but because my partner is of German heritage. So, after trying German food in several states, I would say that The Heidelberg is the most authentic, tasty, and affordable of many places I have visited. I first started this review with a 4 star rating but I am upping it to a 5 because... 1) they make their own spaetzle, 2) they make their own pretzels, 3) they serve goulash, and 4) everything is just like it is in Germany (if you have been there). This place is one of the few authentic old school places that will not disappoint you. With this said, I must also disclose that this restaurant would be a 3 1/2 in the Fatherland, but here in the American continent, and with all the fake German franchises, this is a true example to follow. I truly enjoyed my meal, the staff was very friendly and shared a lot of information with us, and yes, the music was a bit too much, but it is a touristy place so... it is what it is.
Really enjoyed a delicious dinner here! They had a great selection of schnitzels and some other German dishes, as well as some German beers. Large portion sizes too! Our waitress was friendly and checked on us frequently as well. I loved the decor, and would absolutely come here again the next time I visit.
This was an excellent place if you enjoy great German food., I had the sauerbraten, with German potato salad, and red cabbage. All very delicious.. Courtney our server was very good and attentive, she took time to talk to my husband and me. And the ambiance was outstanding. I took a few pictures. Hope if you go to Helen, Georgia you will try this place.
Not busy in Helen, got seated right away. Food came out pretty quickly. I did not like their caeser salad. There are no vegetarian/vegan options. There are no fish/seafood entrees. Got smoked salmon appetizer - just ok. The pretzel was good, but did not like beer cheese dip. Hubby said his reuben was fine. Boys had some of their burger and brat but didn't finish (they usually mow down food). Have had some fabulous meals and snacks in Helen, this was not one.
This was definitely one of the most traditional German experiences. A little house with many levels. There is a stage inside where they do performances sometimes. We enjoyed the tiny balcony and the goulash! It was hearty and meaty like stew.
Enjoyed the pretzel as a to go order. Inside was a little too rustic (almost dirty looking) and the staff seemed a little unorganized. The large pretzel was good though.

Our server was a professional. You know how you get good and great servers, then you get the ones that just have another level to them. We had two different schnitzels. Both delicious, German potato salad was great, red cabbage unique but very good and same with the Sauerkraut. This is going to sound like I lost my mind. The Riesenbrezel, big pretzel. Herb butter and beer cheese, one of the best things I've had in a long time. Crazy, but it was delicious. Like the rest of Helen, beautiful place clean and well maintained. read more

Every time we head to Helen for tubing, this is always one of our stops and it honestly never disappoints. I pretty much order the same thing every visit because I love it that much, the HÜHNERSCHNITZEL with potato salad and red cabbage, and to start we always get the giant pretzel with beer cheese. It just hits after being out in the sun all day. The schnitzel is always flavorful and comforting, and that pretzel with beer cheese is one of those appetizers that disappears fast. The restaurant itself is also really cute. You can sit inside or out on the balcony which is such a nice spot to eat and people watch. Service has always been good every time we've gone too. Overall, if you're spending the day in Helen, I definitely think this place is worth stopping at. read more

Alison helped us order and we went with the Schnitzel "wiener art" entree with Kartoffelsalat (warm German Potato Salad) and red cabbage. 12/10. Back in California and still thinking about this dish. Fun (German electronica?) music inside the dining room too! read more

The food was good! But the service and waitress were awful! She was rude and annoyed with us coming in 90 minutes before closing. Spilled our drinks all over and didn't even wipe them off. Just said oops! Extremely unprofessional and rude! The place has a cute balcony to sit outside and was charming. We won't be back, mainly because of the waitress. read more

After a bit of a wait in the staircase, we were seated, and our host served up water and took drink orders. I enquired about the Bock on draft but they were out and had replaced it and I was offered a sample. Our order was taken and the sample arrived. The half-liter was delivered very promptly and at a "German beer" temperature. It was very good. Our lunch was served by the kitchen staff and was great. The sausage was perfectly grilled and tasty, and I ate a bit too much but survived. The dining rooms are in a converted house and nicely decorated with interesting items. The queueing on the staircase caused a bit of confusion and could be an issue if you have trouble standing. I do think they have a wheelchair-accessible route but it's not obvious. read more

After spending my morning in the Chattahoochee River tubing, my friend and I decided to come here to grab something to eat. When we first arrived we told them we had a party of 2. They didn't have a host taking names, phone numbers, party sizes, or anything. They just told everyone to wait in the stairwell. We all just had to go off the honor system and remember who was waiting in front of us which I felt to be disorganized. My friend and I shared a pretzel to start. It was good, warm, and I enjoyed the butter and and cheese to dip it in. I got the Reuben which I liked I just wish it had a side of thousand island dressing. I asked my server for it but she forgot. I was finally able to get one from her as I was leaving so I took it to go and used it on my leftovers. read more
We were in Helen on a very cold and windy day in January. We were looking for some place warm to sit down and enjoy a hot meal for dinner. The Heidelberg did not disappoint! The goulash was served hot and was delicious. The kids enjoyed their chicken fingers and fries. The fried schnitzel sandwich was perfect, crispy and not greasy, even the fries were good. We had excellent service and our waitress was kind and friendly. The kids loved the German styled decorations and the third floor was family friendly. read more

Food was fantastic! Service was attentive, and the food that was ordered literally came in about 5 minutes. They were very fast with us! Their pretzel with beer cheese was amazing. Our pretzel with cheese was $15 and our reuben sandwich was $12. Their fries are delicious. My husband and I split the plate and appetizer, so the portion sizes are large. read more

We decided we had to try one of the many marginally scored German restaurants while in Helen. Finally selected The Heidelberg and we are so glad we did! They seated us quickly and served us equally as fast! We started with a soft pretzel. It was perfectly warm and soft on the inside. Well, but not overly, salted. Served with a warm ramekin of melted butter as well as a warm ramekin of cheese sauce. Both were delicious options. Additionally, they have 3 mustard options on the table. Perfect start! We then decided to split the Jaegerschnitzel with German potato salad and spatzel. Coincidentally, I specifically wanted spatzel then preferred every other thing we ate to that. It wasn't bad. It was just fairly plain. The schnitzel itself was flawlessly breaded and exquisitely fried. Crispy, tender, delicious! Wow! The German potato salad--warm and yet another WOW! I do not understand the marginal reviews. Yum! Would definitely come back! read more

This was my first visit to both Heidelberg and Helen for a long while. Although I didn't see Schweinhaxen menu, my choice of Jägerschnitzel did not disappoint. So tender and in excellent combination with the sides of sauerkraut and potato salad. Although it was the opening of Octoberfest, the service was friendly and fast. We really enjoyed the ambiance despite the challenges of the stairs. Great end to a great day. read more

The food and ambiance is incredible. Waitstaff super attentive and friendly. So many beers to choose from and the food tastes just like Germany. Their uniforms are perfect too. Highly recommended. SO GOOD!!! read more

Courtney was our server and was fantastic! I had the Wienerschnitzel, which was perfectly cooked and tender. I'm very picky about my schnitzel. We sat on the upstairs terrace, which was fun for people watching. We talked off the evening with their delicious triple chocolate cake! I would highly recommend the Heidelberg. read more

The service is very slow, we didn't receive our appetizers and they still tried to charge us for them and the food sucks! Also, the music is garbage. Don't come here and if you do, don't give any tip. read more
