    Pretzel

We went during Oktoberfest, and it's crowded! The vibe is fun if you want a place to sit, drink beers, and listen to American style music. It's in the heart of Helen, so I bet a lot of people think that is the Oktoberfest venue because it's so big (but it's not). I got the pretzel because I was so craving one and it wasn't good. I had looked up reviews for best pretzel and people said this one, but I would hope there are better ones out there. I think people really just like the vibe!

We had so much fun here drinking beer out of steins and listening to live music for hours during Ocktober Festival season. The service and bartenders were great even when it was packed with people. We did not try any food but I highly recommend this place to hang out and have good times!

Great taste of Germany! The cheddarwurst sausage was awesome, covered in sauerkraut and available spicy mustard packets. Great garlic butter bun (I think, cuz the pork shanks came with garlic bread). The pork shanks indeed fell off the bone and was delicious. Loved the potato salad that came with it. Very happy with our meal, cool little patio and live music.

The hot dogs are some of the best German sausages you can have. The service is very friendly, and they suggested mixing Stella with Schöfferhofer Grapefruit German beer--which tasted amazing. The restaurant gives you a complete German vibe, with live music and plenty of activities to enjoy.

Large beer, apparently the cup can be used other places from what I heard the bartender tell someone.

Plenty of tables under cover so there's shade and if it rained it should protect from that too. The large beer in the reusable plastic mug is the deal to get, refills are cheaper and the mugs are accepted at most other places in town. The night we drank here they played a variety of music. A different night they had a live performer.

PSA - I don't drink so solely commenting on the food. For those that drink, this did look like the beer mecca... Anyways. Let. Me. Tell. You. I would drive 5 hours back here, from my home in South Georgia just to have a Reuben + beer cheese. This was my first experience here. The weather is gloomy and it's lightly drizzling so it was a "to go" lunch kind of day. I was on a mission for a Reuben with a side of chips and beer cheese . Specifically. KING LUDWIGS D E L I V E R E D. I can't wait to come back again when the weather is better for a full experience. Dining is outdoors with live entertainment - my jam.

Such a cool spot! There is a large outdoor seating space with tons of tables for people to hang out and listen to live music. There is an outdoor bar and umbrellas and would be an amazing spot for adults to hang out and grab some drinks. Live music was cool too!

One of the most disappointing destinations I've ever visited. Helen looks nothing like the pictures online. What's advertised as a charming "German village" is actually a rundown little town with maybe three historical shops worth seeing. The rest feels neglected and tourist-trappy. The worst part was the unbearable music blasting from King Ludwig's Biergarten right in the town square. It was supposed to be a festive Christmas season, but instead, the whole area was drowned out by extremely loud, unpleasant music that sounded more like shouting than singing. I even asked one of the bartenders why anyone would play such terrible, inappropriate music during the holidays, but it didn't seem to matter. As for places to stay--don't bother. The state park camping area is overcrowded and chaotic, with kids riding bikes everywhere, and the private campgrounds are dirty, unkept, and nothing like their online photos. To top it off, I was pulled over by a local police officer for simply holding my phone. Even after explaining that I was from out of state and unaware of Georgia's law, I still received a ticket. Meanwhile, officers seem more interested in ticketing visitors than addressing the disruptive noise downtown. Overall, Helen, Georgia, was a total letdown. The online images are misleading, the atmosphere is chaotic, and the experience is far from the cozy, picturesque getaway it claims to be. Save your money and go somewhere else.

We went to Helen this past year for Oktoberfest. And we had a great time at King Ludwigs!! This live music was so fun! We danced and drank beer all day! The food was mediocre!- I would definitely come here more for the experience during Oktoberfest. I cannot speak for what this spot is like not during Oktoberfest in Helen.

We stopped here a few nights during our long weekend stay in Helen to get some Oktoberfest beer. The prices were good, the atmosphere was fun, and they always had live music going. If you want a snack while having a beer, I recommend the GIANT pretzel!!

    The best pretzel

Best pretzel ever! And both potato salads were sooo good! Despite it being 764 degrees outside. Service and food was great. Awesome location, live music, pet friendly.

Happened to get a table here to watch the parade for the Oktoberfest 2024 celebration! While the parade left something to be desired, King Ludwig's is every German experience you're looking for. Huge German beers, giant Bavarian pretzels, fun music and a fun atmosphere! It's a must pop-in when in Helen, GA?

Staff here is lovely. Even though we got here one busy night, everyone was attentive to what we wanted. The little one got a chicken tender plate with fries and a side of veggies, and my husband and I split the platter for two. Our waitstaff forgot our veggies, but quickly helped resolve this when we brought it up. The veggies came out tasting delicious. The platter for two was great, tons of meats and a great side dish of gut friendly foods. I wish the sauce was on the side, but it was a nice flavor. The reason for 3 stars was the musical entertainment. I wish there was an option for 3.5 stars, I don't think 4 stars accurately represents this restaurant. The musicians were so talented and got us all excited to be there. It was great to hear some guests know some songs, which added a unique atmosphere to this restaurant. We'd def go back, but prefer another German restaurant when visiting Helen.

The Jägerschnitzel featured a perfectly crisp pork cutlet smothered in a rich, earthy mushroom gravy loaded with mushrooms and just the right amount of cream. The spaetzle was buttery and tender, and the potato pancakes were crispy around the edges with a soft, savory center. Pair them with the applesauce and sour cream for the full experience. The German potato salad was easily one of the best I've had, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of tang, and the sweet and sour red cabbage was the ideal companion to the rich schnitzel. We also sampled several traditional sausages, each with its own distinct flavor and snap. Everything tasted homemade, comforting, and true to its German roots. Add in the charming Bavarian atmosphere and a genuinely warm, attentive server, and it felt like a little trip to Germany without leaving North Carolina. I'll absolutely be back.
