Cool Biergarten experience in the center of town with several beers on tap. There are several tables and umbrellas which are great on a hot sunny day. There's also corn hole, a giant chess set, and space for a live performer. The only things I think could be improved is that I wish it was cleaner. Great taste of Germany! The cheddarwurst sausage was awesome, covered in sauerkraut and available spicy mustard packets. Great garlic butter bun (I think, cuz the pork shanks came with garlic bread). Plenty of tables under cover so there's shade and if it rained it should protect from that too. The large beer in the reusable plastic mug is the deal to get, refills are cheaper and the mugs are accepted at most other places in town. The night we drank here they played a variety of music. this place used to be a great place to meet locals and was reasonably priced... as of 2026 they have changed their prices. a vodka soda (not top shelf) and beer was 26.00. One of the most disappointing destinations I've ever visited. Helen looks nothing like the pictures online. What's advertised as a charming "German village" is actually a rundown little town with maybe three historical shops worth seeing. The rest feels neglected and tourist-trappy. The worst part was the unbearable music blasting from King Ludwig's Biergarten right in the town square. It was supposed to be a festive Christmas season, but instead, the whole area was drowned out by extremely loud, unpleasant music that sounded more like shouting than singing. I even asked one of the bartenders why anyone would play such terrible, inappropriate music during the holidays, but it didn't seem to matter. As for places to stay--don't bother. The state park camping area is overcrowded and chaotic, with kids riding bikes everywhere, and the private campgrounds are dirty, unkept, and nothing like their online photos. To top it off, I was pulled over by a local police officer for simply holding my phone. Even after explaining that I was from out of state and unaware of Georgia's law, I still received a ticket. Meanwhile, officers seem more interested in ticketing visitors than addressing the disruptive noise downtown. Overall, Helen, Georgia, was a total letdown. The online images are misleading, the atmosphere is chaotic, and the experience is far from the cozy, picturesque getaway it claims to be. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I don't know man. Been to Helen so many times with different friends, family members and sometimes just me and my wife. This is one place that I never stopped visiting. It is a beer temple. Just one paulaner oktoberfest steiner and a pretzel and that is all I ever need from a Helen dinner or lunch. Best beer I ever tasted and period. I think they need to make a souvenir using these two items and I would proudly display it on my fridge. This is the heart of Helen! The very essense of Helen! The smell and sound of Helen. I come here for their pretzel! Pretty big, soft and the beer cheese is very good. They have outdoor sitting and the tables are kinda like picnic tables. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready and you can sit wherever you want. In my experience they also had really great bartenders who were really helpful and had some great tips about places that stay open later at MUCH of Helen closes very early by my standards. This is an all outside venue so make sure to dress for the weather. This place is fun and the service at the front register was great. Definitely grab a giant pretzel with cheese and if you do like German beer, this is the place for you. Being an IPA guy, I ordered the only one on the menu and they were out of it. No worries, I had a Paulaner and enjoyed the great weather.
