Pretzel and sausage appetizer. Plus Gluwein. Delicious.
    James D.

Delicious German food in a jam packed house in Cumming. I had tried their food once at a catered event and really wanted to come to the restaurant. I was not disappointed. The building itself is a house with tables in several rooms (living room dining room sun room). It's tight and you sit very close to the next table. But it works. You sort of feel like a guest in someone's home. I'm not German and not an expert in German food. But I could hear many German speakers in the room. I figured that was a good sign. I started with a gluwein which is hot spiced red wine. Very christmassy and delicious. And it certainly warms you up on a cold night. It's somewhat sweet, so I switched to beer with dinner. We had pretzel and sausage to start. We took the waitress's recommendation for sausage. Delicious. For dinner we both had the same dish. Veal Schnitzel with red cabbage and potato salad. Every bite was incredible. I never thought I would say that about cabbage. So good. For dessert I had the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. My wife had the bread pudding. The taste sensations were incredible throughout the entire meal. Highly recommended. Also call ahead for a reservation as they are quite busy.

Hot Chocolate with blackberry and Baileys...sooo good!

It was a cold rainy day when we finally stopped in to try Gasthaus for lunch. What better way to warm up on a cold day? At 12:30 on a Friday, the front rooms weren't busy when we arrived, although they started filling up while we ate. The house is super cute and decorated for the holidays. In fact, we were sitting by a nice lady who (the waitress told us later) actually brings in all of their holiday table decorations. The ambiance and service were fantastic. This nice lady also told us how their meats are cooked for days and their bread and desserts are all made in-house. She recommended the Ruben and it was so good! I wasn't a huge fan of the Spaetzle, it was a little dry, which maybe it was supposed to be, but it wasn't what I was expecting. We also had the pretzel and sausage plate, which was a little odd, with a small pile of sliced sausage next to a wonderful pretzel. It didn't really look like it went together but was very good. The hot cocoa with Baileys and blackberry was delicious and, of course, the German beer was perfect. I am sorry I didn't notice the Glühwein (hot spiced wine) and will have to go back to try it along with their delicious-looking desserts.

Traditional, quaint German restaurant. We arrived on a Saturday at 6:45 and it was packed, however, we didn't have to wait for a table and were seated immediately. We started with the pretzel and cheese and sausage plate. Next, time we will go with the pretzel and sausage combo, the cheese was just okay. The sausage was the star, our favorite being the Debrezina, so flavorful. Next was the house salad, had two types of pickled cabbage and dill dressing, the sweet and savory combo was so delectable, I wanted to lick the plate. The beef stroganoff was tender, but could have had a little more beef in it. The kid's meal was a generous portion and Rachel our server was delightful. The Apple strudel was very fresh and we will likely order whole ones in the future. The only complaint is that our entrees were not super hot.. We will definitely be returning again.

We've been here twice and there are a couple nice standouts on the menu, all in all the food is just okay. Not bad, not great. The iced tea is a spiced tea - FYI, if you enjoy just regular iced tea, this isn't it. The staff is friendly, but there aren't many. For example, the nice lady who served us said she was also working in the kitchen at the same time. We ate in the "Biergarten" - which I believe translates to: a hot musty tent where all broken equipment, dead planters, stacks of chairs, and tables are stored. It was literally like eating in a tool shed. The first time we went here we ate inside. It's quaint, but I agree with the other comments, it is pretty tight and cramped. I'm sure it's different during events but when we were there (both times) the absence of any music (live or just background music) made the silence deafening. It also accentuated the closeness of the tables, all conversations were heard. This place is worth trying. There will be some menu items that stand out, while others are just average. We've experienced it twice, and that's probably it for us. With a bit of work, I think this establishment could be so much more.

    Wiener schnitzel

We're a big fan of German food so we decided to give Gasthaus Tirol a try. It's a cute space with a large beer garden out back. We were sat at a table off the patio which had no light or heat but luckily our waiter brought over a candle for us so we could see our food. The food was all very good with the exception of the spaetzle. Unfortunately it was like eating plain pasta with no sauce. Adding some butter or cheese would make it much better. The Wiener schnitzel was nice and thin and the brown sauce was tasty. The entrees come with a salad, two sides, and bread so it's a good amount of food. The sampler came with roasted beef with gravy, Wiener schnitzel, and sausage. It was good but would probably just stick to schnitzel next time. Skip the potato dumplings as well! The bacon was scarce and the flavor wasn't great. Overall, it was a good experience and with a few changes the food could definitely be 5-star.

The system in…read morethe cafe is weird everyone is scrunched up I didn't feel comfortable talking because we were so close to the other table. Ambiance is way too crapped if you're claustrophobic you're probably not going to be able to stay here. System is whack because the drinks aren't on the menu you have to GET UP and go up and figure out what drink you want. Then they can only make it one way you can't asked for something cold/hot. Not to mention the floors were nasty, tables not wiped, and in general I hated the experience. The food looked like something you heat up in the microwave. Specially the croissant because it looks like jimmy deans croissants from Walmarts freezer section. Then to top it all off there was a 12-14 INCH HAIR PIECE In our food. I was disgusted. The chai latte tasted like straight up cold milk with some cinnamon on top. I've had tons of chai in my life but by far that one was the worst. I wouldn't come back and I pray that they get everything back in order. I see the business owner replied to my review. I will like to say as a customer if I share a review then I truly believe that things should be fixed, not excuses or "seen footage". If I had Gotten all the way up and went to the counter and said "I just found a 12-14 hair piece in my food" things still would not have changed due to us already being done with our experience and wanting to leave . Now with the cleaning situation there was tons of food under the tables and the tables weren't wiped. No one came to clean at all so the comments on the cleaning was way off for me, everyone was working BEHIND The counter. I also believe with the drinks I am not talking just about the Tiramisu Latte. I originally was not planning on getting the Tiramisu but when I asked for something else hot they said only iced. And no it is not a personal preference of a Chai latte a Chai latte should not taste like cold milk with cinnamon dust. Thank you for taking time to reply to my review. We also did NOT finish our food and the "seen footage" accusations is a bit harsh. As a Yelp Elite member it is important to be 100% REAL with my reviews. I take passion and respect for every business out there but I genuinely am concerned, especially with how defensive the owner is to my review. The rude server at the front also made us not feel comfortable coming up and doing something. Now seeing how the owner is acting I am even more worried.. A chai is suppose to be BROWN not PURE WHITE. If you truly looked at the footage you would've seen me pull that long hair piece out.

This review once again is LONG OVERDUE!! I apologize to the owner because we had a FABULOUS meal…read moreand experience. We were given a gift certificate by our realtor last year and waited for a special occasion since we were told it is pricey. Valentines seemed like the perfect time and it was! Made reservations several weeks before opting for the 13th of February and at 5 pm in hopes of avoiding the crowd. It worked. We arrived and were seated promptly in what they call the Al Capone booth which was for two and tucked towards the back wall which was cozy and private except much later the table across from us which looks out toward the table we were at, 4 people were seated. It wasn't a big deal as they were busy talking with their group. Our waiter was Jason (I hope I'm remembering his name correctly) and he told us he was fairly new. Great waiter, engaging with us, gave us excellent tips on the food choices, how things were cooked especially the steaks, which cuts would be best for us according to our tastes, very attentive our entire meal, didn't rush us through our meal and told us what to expect with the dishes we chose. Now we share our meals and opted for a 16 oz steak which my husband finished his half and I brought 1/2 of my 1/2 home along with much of our side dishes. I guess that means each side comes with a lot of food. We ordered the sweet potatoes, which was incredibly delicious, nice and soft on the inside and a bit crunchy on the outside. They have a caramel flavor bc of caramelized. Oh sooo scrumptious. The asparagus were nice a large and once again the flavor on them were delish!! Our steak came out on a plate by itself bc Jason said the chef likes to show the beauty of it. I agree, simple, but the steak on its own looked grand. It was cooked to perfection, so juicy and packed with flavor. It melted in our mouth. Worth every cent. The mushrooms along with the sauce flavor we chose were a perfect combo with our steak. The steak on its own was amazing but the mushrooms were delicious with the steak. The incredible rolls they serve are to die for. Light, fluffy and down right a perfect accompaniment to our dinner. My husband enjoyed his wine choice with Jason's recommendation. I had Jason take back my Lemon Drop Martini because it wasn't to my taste, just a bit boozier than I enjoy. The second time was much better. The manager Peril came to our table and introduced himself. Told us about the history of his restaurant and was a kind man. We talked with him about being from CA. Also how his restaurant being located in an area you'd never imagine having such a great restaurant would be was awesome. It's in this small strip mall right off Meadow Drive amongst other small shops. Not very grand looking on the outside but very nice and lovely inside. Very intimate feeling in the booths. I did notice they have a small bar area which was packed as well as small tables in the area. The parking lot is not very large with some handicap parking spots. Quite large inside with outdoor seating within a tent covered area with windows. We definitely will visit again, on another special occasion. Everything and everyone was GREAT and ever so tasty.

As I included myself in the "Powers" reservation for four people, I insisted on paying for my own meal. PLUS knowing that my chances of eating there again were slim (visiting from San Diego), I wanted to splurge and indulge. :) I had the 8oz filet (cooked medium) with blue cheese crust, accompanied with 2 pan seared scallops. Oh my God! The steak was cooked perfectly. It had a nice sear while remaining perfectly cooked in the middle. I judge a restaurant/steakhouse by how well it cooks it's scallops. HAVEN eaten many, I know they are easy to mess up. Some places either over-cook them, or don't clean them well. However, these may have been the best I ever had. Cooked perfectly and with full flavor. The group raved about the loaded mashed potatoes and dessert. THE MEAL was awesome. understanding that everyone's experience there will be unique to them, "I" highly recommend you visit this place to have your own experience. I hope in the future I get to eat there again. THIS PLACE IS KEN HARMON APPOVED.

We started with the hummus and pita, which was a great surprise. I'm not usually a big hummus fan, but theirs has a really smooth, clean flavor. The pita was warm and soft, and the mix of black olives with olive oil on the side added a really nice touch. My wife ordered the lentil soup, and after trying a spoonful, I immediately regretted not ordering my own. It is easily one of the best lentil soups I've had -- full of flavor, rich, comforting, and seasoned perfectly. Definitely top-two in my book. For the entrée, I chose the large mixed grill platter (around $50), which comes with steak, chicken, lamb, and another kebab. It also includes two generous portions of rice, grilled vegetables, and tzatziki. The amount of food is impressive and absolutely enough for two people to share. The meats were tender, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. For dessert, my wife went with the chocolate mousse while I tried the pistachio cake. Both were excellent -- the mousse was rich and smooth, and the pistachio cake had great texture and flavor. One of the highlights for me was actually the mango lemonade. The first sip really stood out -- refreshing, balanced, and surprisingly good. The restaurant itself is very clean with a nice setup and comfortable seating. The owners and staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive. You can tell they are proud of what they serve. Parking is easy since it's part of a larger shopping center with plenty of spaces. There is still a lot on the menu I want to try next time -- especially the gyros. I'm very happy Cumming has a Mediterranean spot this solid. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys great food and great service.
