Lunch date today and I chose this place because it seemed to have a variety and most importantly, pancakes and burgers, two of bae's favorite things. (Hint: get the house made Ranchero sauce.) For our mains we got the Shroom and Swiss Burger (bae) and the biscuits and gravy with a fried egg. We came to Homestead for an after-graduation brunch, hoping to celebrate a milestone with a good meal. There were nine of us--not exactly a tiny table, but hardly the kind of group that should throw a restaurant into chaos. To be fair, we did wait for two people in our party before ordering food. It was probably 20-30 minutes, and we made it very clear to our server that we were waiting. We also weren't just camping out at the table. We started with drinks while we waited, so the restaurant was already making money from our table before the kitchen ever had to cook a single thing. Once everyone arrived, we placed one order together. No staggered tickets, no special requests, no unnecessary complications. The thing is... the restaurant was practically empty. If anything, I would've thought they'd be happy to have a table of nine on a slow brunch. Instead, it felt like we were an inconvenience. Once we finally ordered, it was another 30-plus minutes before much of anything happened. Our waitress wasn't rude, but she also wasn't particularly interested in us being there. She checked the boxes, but just barely. It felt less like hospitality and more like someone waiting for the end of their shift. What made the whole experience even stranger was looking around the restaurant. It wasn't busy, yet several employees seemed to be standing around talking while we sat waiting. During the hour or two we were there, I think only a couple of other parties came through the door. At one point there were two hostesses managing what amounted to a trickle of guests while tables that were already seated waited on drinks, food, and attention. Maybe there's more going on behind the scenes than I could see, but from where we were sitting, it felt less like they needed more people and more like they needed to use the people they already had a little better. Then came the mimosas. These were less mimosas and more "suggestions of citrus." It was basically champagne with a couple thoughts of orange juice. At one point we had to ask for more orange juice just to get it to the legally recognized definition of a mimosa. They tasted like champagne that heard flavored sparkling water was popular and decided to reinvent itself. There was a whole lot of "mim" and not much "osa." At nearly $14 each, I expected something a little more festive and a little less... chemistry experiment. For food, I ordered the Fried Green Tomato Benny: two biscuits, fried green tomatoes, poached eggs, Cholula hollandaise, and fresh fruit. On paper, that's a fantastic brunch. In reality, it was aggressively average. Nothing was quite hot enough. The biscuits had crossed that invisible line between baked and overbaked, where every bite makes you wonder if they're fresh or just committed to the bit. The whole dish felt like it had spent just a few too many minutes waiting for someone to remember it existed. And then there was the fruit. You know the kind of fruit bowl where every piece somehow tastes exactly the same because it's been sitting in the same juice for hours? That's what this was. Cheap melon, tired grapes, and enough pooled juice to ensure every bite shared the same identity crisis. To top it all off, the Benny was around $18, and the mimosas were pushing $14 each. I'm not going to call it a scam because words have meanings. Nobody tricked us. The prices were right there on the menu. We knew exactly what we were doing. We just expected the experience to justify it. On the bright side, the restaurant looks like it was designed by someone who has never met food, but has definitely met Pinterest. And honestly, it shows. Modern farmhouse, soft lighting, curated everything--it nails the aesthetic. Which is great, because you'll have plenty to look at while everything else catches up. It's funny how common this is now: it's easier than ever to make something look finished. You can polish the surface until it feels complete, even when the inside still isn't. Anyway--great aesthetics. The rest feels like it's still figuring itself out. read more

The Caesar had sun-dried tomatoes for a different twist and the Homestead with candied pecans, dried cherries, maple vinaigrette and the sweet potatoes and onion slivers was just fantastic. The egg rolls were delicious and the brussels sprouts and cauliflower absolutely yummy!!! The French Dip was excellent but the shrimp and grits were just ok. Service was great and the views are stellar.

Came here tonight when the sun was setting so we sat outside and the view over the area with the sun was truly a special view. We were quickly seated and the service was excellent. The smoked salmon dip was phenomenal! They didn't skimp out at all and gave us a very large portion of salmon and with the oil it was so good. The filet entree was very good and cooked to a perfect medium rare. I got the meatloaf and for some reason I wasn't as much of a fan but, I applaud them for a different take it just wasn't my favorite. Overall I'd definitely come back and always sit outdoors or in the loft! Definitely try this place out. read more

Ate here with a friend during our trip to visit a brewery nearby. We sat outside on the balcony and it was very pleasant. I had the panko crusted mahi mahi that was served with roasted asparagus and rice. It tasted great. Friend had a burger with thick potato fries. The fries were like chips, but soft and well seasoned. Our server was excellent. We were worried that the restaurant might be full, but we were seated immediately and could have had a table indoors if we had wanted that. There is a wine and cocktail menu in addition to beer, and a short dessert list. Prices were high but not unreasonably, I thought. I would eat here again. read more

We tried homestead about a year ago. After waiting an hour our food never came. So we cashed out our drinks and kept it moving. Things happen. We went back a few weeks ago. Second chances after all. Ordered drinks, apps. Salad and entrees. The food came out on time....only problem was we got our entrees. It was quick! After 10 mins we received our apps. Then shortly after that we received our salads. I have never had a reverse service dinner. Honestly we laughed through the whole thing and joked with the server. Located in the newly opened Cumming Ga. City Center, the Homestead was a great experience. An awesome lineup of cocktails and hand held sandwiches. Knowing ahead of time about the burgers being large and juicy we passed on the appetizers and went straight to the main meal. Side note: they sounded delicious on the menu. My choice was the Desperado - a fried chicken breast with melted provolone, lettuce tomato and a shaved red onion topped with the Desperado aioli. Delicious and zesty. Cocktails, you can take your pick of a nice assortment of well crafted tastiness. I went with the 1776 Aviation. Bluecoat Gin, Lemon, Luxardo Maraschino and Combier Creme De Violette. A couple of these and you're ready for take-off. lol But my hit of the night was the sides. The Collards, I know I know, collard greens lol. Look, I was born and raised in the north (Chicago) and never had a taste for them until now. Cooked in Southern Sweet Tea and bacon braised collards. Oh My Gosh! Just bring me the entire pot. I couldn't stop eating them. Whether you like collard greens or not you owe it to yourself to give them a try. Needless to say the dessert wasn't an option after this meal. But not to worry, The Homestead is at the top of my list to get back there and sample some apps and desserts. Tip - Apparently the TIP feature is not working for some Yelp users so until it's fixed I'll leave my TIP here. It's pretty quiet around Cumming City Center now that school is back in session for Forsyth County. Chloe is our wonderful server. The service is very good. She offered good suggestion's. New restaurant in the downtown Cumming area. Parking in this area can be a nightmare. Look for the parking deck which tends to be the only open spot. The restaurant itself is very nice, with both indoor and outdoor seating available. Service was prompt and the menu is limited. I got the filet $55 and it was just okay. I can't comment on the food bc we were never served. Checked in with the host said it would be 15-20 minutes so we went to the bar... Couldn't get a bartender to look at us to get a drink while we waited. Went back to the front to wait, after 20+ minutes, my husband asked the host status of our table, then it was ready. We sat back by the bar, waited another 15 minutes, and no one came to serve us or say we'll be with you. Not sure what the problem was...There were empty tables. Maybe they were short of help. We had a 7:00 reservation. I got there a little early. There were about 5 hostess at the stand and two people in front of me. I waited for a few minutes I asked one of the other hostess if they could help out. They said no they only have one iPad that two of them were at. I waited a few more minutes then got seated in the very back table by the kitchen. I asked to use the restroom, on the other side of the kitchen. I got back and the menus were gone. I asked for more menus. The waitress went and got the specials menu. They were out one of the specials, and the pasta for the grouper. The chef was unable to substitute any pasta for that dish. Then we ordered the chicken parm. It came out with pasta. It was pretty busy and the parking was a nightmare. Overall we won't be back. They tried to ask about dessert but we were unsure if they would have any dessert available. I want to update my review after returning to this restaurant. The food is pretty phenomenal. Definitely one of the best in the local area. We had the fried chicken sandwich with sweet potato. We went to Homestead for lunch on our little Sunday trip to Cumming City Center today. They have a large menu, which included their weekend brunch menu. We came with some family and I got the steak and eggs (poached), my husband got the French Quarter rib dip and my sister got the Cesar salad. The salad was the BEST thing here. I kept nibbling on it even though it wasn't mine. Hubby enjoyed his rib dip and commented on how great the fries are! They were a really pleasing shape. My steak was a bit tough and not as flavorful as I make it at home, but the poached eggs were good! If you go here, definitely get the Cesar salad, it's fabulous! read more
