Unfortunately, was very disappointed in our experience at this restaurant last evening. I hade made a dinner reservation weeks before to celebrate my husband's birthday. I did request to sit by a window if possible and was told that if possible we would. We arrived 15 minutes early and we were asked if we had a reservation: I stated that we did and was informed that our table was not ready. That was fine, we ordered a drink from the bar.45 minutes later-we did not want to be rude and go back to the host-, he came back to say that the table had ordered another drink and the would not ask them to leave. I understand that, but instead of offering another table or a complimentary drink to wait, was told we could eat at the bar. I have no problem eating at the bar, but since it was my husband's birthday, we wanted a table. We declined and decided to go somewhere else. No apologies or kindness was displayed and he seemed relieved. Of note, there were other tables that came and went while we were there. A nice couple that was at the bar were surprised that they did not offer another table. Our drinks were good and the bartender was very kind We do try to support local businesses, but I should have kept my other reservation in the Strip. I know that the restaurant was busy, but, no excuse. read more

OMG!!! Went there tonight, the food was amazing, the service was outstanding, the atmosphere was relaxing and the owner made me feel like I was dining in my family dining room. Can't say how much I enjoyed myself. The filet mignon was to die for and the sea bass was right there with the filet. We had reservations for 17 at another place and they lost our reservation. Luckily Bistro 19 was able to accommodate our large party on short notice. The food was good and reasonably priced. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I'm from out of town and wouldn't go out of my way for this place but if you're in the area, it's a good spot. Thanks for the great service read more

I had dinner with a group of single women and we all enjoyed our meals. The food was not the issue. I've always enjoyed my meals at Bistro 19. The issue was when we received our checks, a 20% gratuity was added and totaled into the amount due. Several of the women had not noticed this addition, they only looked at the total amount. One woman had already paid in cash, adding what she thought was the correct tip. The waitress never mentioned that the tip was already added when she presented our bills. Only after my friend questioned the waitress did she return the extra tip amount. I felt this was an underhanded way of forcing customers to pay a good tip, whether they wanted to or not. I feel the tip is up to the customer, not management. Perhaps they should consider paying a decent wage to their employees and increase the meal prices accordingly. read more

I stopped in for lunch one day when I was working in the area. Bistro19 had a great atmosphere. I was attended to quickly, and was met with great service. The wait staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and quick on refills. There was a pretty decent beer list. The menu was on the smaller side, which is a good sign that the food is fresh. I ordered the Bistro Burger. The patty was cooked medium, the way I ordered. It came with a roasted garlic ketchup, which I don't think was prepared well; it was very watery and leaked everywhere, soaking the plate. Perhaps a thicker ketchup, or even changing it to a spicy ketchup would better complement the burger. There could have been a better melt on the cheese as well. The French fries were great. It's surprising how many restaurants can't get French fries right. This restaurant has a lot going for it, so I'd love to come back and try something different. read more

3.5 stars. Decent brunch food in this part of Pittsburgh, and even comes with a pretty huge list of spiked coffees for you to enjoy with the food. We were celebrating a birthday here, and had a reservation. They were pretty accommodating for our rather large group (~10 people) in their smallish space. I got their grilled salmon salad sandwich, while the mister got his usual eggs benedict. Their sandwiches were good (everyone raves about the croissant), but the eggs were just so-so. It definitely can be the star of a small town. Coming from a bigger Metropolitan area, this place is lacking a little bit -- perhaps in the freshness of the ingredients? Where Pittsburgh is situated, that could be a bit of a problem that isn't particularly the restaurant's fault. When you're in town and want to go somewhere that's slightly nicer with a contemporary flair, this is the place. read more

We only came here for a dirty martini night-cap but they were good! We sat at the bar, had good but not overbearing service, and enjoyed the white-noise chatter from all of the Saturday night diners. The vibe is okay. I was happy to sit at the bar with my back to the main dining room as it seems like everyone is just in an open, square room. We had already eaten but then menu looked great. I've been a patron of this restaurant for many years and have found almost every visit to be wonderful. For more than a decade I have brought vendors, family and friends to Bistro 19. Last night, things were quite different. The service was mediocre (at best) and the food was not well prepared. We both ordered the "Bistro Salad" but the salads were literally drenched with dressing. My friend did not eat hers, but I ate mine. I mentioned this to the server (name not mentioned here, but our reservation was at 6:30 and paid the bill at 7:30), who asked if we wanted additional salads and said she would mention it to the "new person" who prepared them. Of course, rather than remove the salads from the bill as any respectable restaurant would have done, they were both on there when we paid the check. I did not want to create an issue since we were there to celebrate a recent milestone in life, so we just paid the check and left. I'm not sure what has changed recently at Bistro 19, but our celebration was definitely tainted by the experience last night. read more

I dined here solo at the bar and it was good. You definitely need reservations here for a table. I ordered the seared tuna dish and it came with rice and asparagus. I really liked the atmosphere here. It's more upscale but also casual at the same time. I asked for a condiment and it never arrived but otherwise the service was ok. We didnot realize that this is a fine dining place until we were seated. After a tiring bowling night, this was among the few options that were still open at 9:30 pm and they also have a good rating on Yelp. Our waitress was friendly and nice. Service was on time. They offered some bread like any other high end restaurant. We ordered two staters: colossal lump crab cocktail and lamb flat bread; and two entree items: almond chicken and bay of Fundy salmon. It was a sufficient quantity for four of us. Starters first! Crab cocktail is cooked crab served over a bed of fresh ripe mango salsa and avacado. It had a subtle tangy flavor. There are other ingredients too, but these were noticeable. Its an amazingly refreshing touch to the palette. I definitely recommend this dish. Coming to the lamb flat bread. It is lamb meat balls, feta cheese, tomatoes, arugula and fresh yogurt sauce served over a naan. The best part of this dish is the juicy well cooked lamb. If you like lamb, you should definitely try this. Now the entrees, my favorite is almond chicken. This dish is on the sweeter side. I liked it very much especially the combination with creamy risotto and spinach. If you are a greens lover, do give this a try! Ok...the salmon. I am not a big fan of salmon. So, I will just discuss about the well cooked basmati rice served with a mildly spicy sauce which might consist of cream and butter. My friends liked the salmon too. Though Bistro 19 isn't really close for us, I can't wait to go back. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. I wish I'd thought to take pictures of it before we started eating. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. I highly recommend a couple of the courses you could only get on the restaurant week special menu. The Sea bass corn tart with bacon guacamole & brown sugar and ginger seared tuna served with basmati, crispy carrots, and vegetable curry were amazing and my Dad really enjoyed his salmon, too. Side note: Though they don't say it on their main page, they recommend reservations and we went early, but it's a very small restaurant and I can see it getting crowded easily. You need to call for reservations, but it's worth it to make sure you get a table! read more

Came here for dinner and got the French onion soup and the salmon salad. I've had better French onion soup but the salmon salad here was fantastic!!! Fresh greens topped with a nice piece of salmon and a yogurt sauce. The southwest salad wasn't nearly as good.. it came with a chicken drenched in BBQ sauce and was way too sweet in my opinion. They ran out of 2 main entree items on an already pretty small menu. Our waitress also forgot to put in our appetizers and the kitchen just brought out our main dishes. Our waitress then told us the kitchen "was a mess." It was overall pretty uncomfortable and the food we did order was nothing special. never been before. what a great introduction! me, my hubby tom & our neighbor cheryl went for the oak farm vineyards wine dinner. 5 courses with matching wines for $80! we've had oak farm wines before though barsotti wines, and were excited to try more of them! the restaurant isn't that big, maybe 45-50 seats, 2/3 tables, 1/3 bar. the back wall kept our interest in that it looked like one of those sand gardens. it just needed a rake with it! very minimal. when we arrived, they weren't too busy, but by the time we left, it was filled. we were seated right away. you could choose between the regular menu or go for the wine dinner. 3 wine dinners please! mikayla, our waitress, was quite accommodating to our needs. as she brought out each course, she explained the wine & dish perfectly. course 1-pear & mascarpone crostini with fig glaze & a sauvignon blanc. the crostini was delicious! i could have eaten a platter of them! a little messy, but so worth it! the wine was crisp, fruity. course 2-spiced lamb meatballs, saffron aioli in a romesco sauce, paired with a tievoli red blend. we impressed mikayla with the fat that tievoli is i love it backwards! (we learned that at barsottis!) she was excited to add it to her spiel. those meatballs were so succulent, so tender. the aioli was just enough. the romesco brought it all together for the perfect bite. the tievoli was exactly what you needed to go with it. course 3-a salad of arugula, roquefort stuffed endive, blistered tomatoes, crispy shallots with a white balsamic vinaigrette. the wine a delightful chardonnay. that salad is the best salad i have had in a long time! again, i could eat this all day! i mean, roquefort stuffed endive! crispy shallots! ah! my mouth is watering! the wine, wonderful. course 4-mushroom & leek cannelloni with a boar ragu, a barbera to drink. all i can say is mmmmm, mmmmm!!! insanely good! & finally, course 5-dark chocolate & cayenne cremeux, almond praline with raspberry coulis. & a dessert zinfandel. as if the last courses weren't crazy delicious, this dessert took it all over the top! we usually don't like sweet wines, but that zin was something we'd sip on! the meal was a delight! excellently prepared & crafted! the service was flawless. attentive. we will definitely go back! the menu itself really looks good! & the wine selection is adequate! thanks everyone for a wonderful evening! read more

I've been here a few times and after our latest visit, I feel Bistro 19 definitely deserves a 5 star review. Although I haven't been impressed in the past, their menu changed from what I remember from years ago (and I believe it might change quite often with what is in season). I loved everything about this most recent visit. Between my husband and I, we ordered the French onion soup, salmon sliders, sea scallops, and pork tenderloin. Everything was on point. French onion soup was one of the best I've had. The salmon sliders were flavorful and the yogurt sauce on them created a refreshing flavor to balance with the rich salmon. The sea scallops were one of the best scallop dishes I've ever had; they were perfectly seared and seasoned, with a sweet yet savory sauce. It was paired with a polenta and the combinations were perfect. The pork tenderloin was also fantastic with great balances of sweet and savory. According to our waitress, the pork tenderloin is one of their most popular dishes. The decor is very sleek and modern, while the space is rather small. We came here on a weeknight so it wasn't too busy; we were able to get a table with no problems. However, I would imagine dinner on a weekend would require a reservation. Bistro 19 is a great upscale find along the main drag in Mt Lebanon, perfect for a date night. The space offers a fairly decent sized dining room with a small bar enough for about 6-8 patrons. Also, there are some available tables outside when the weather permits. The menu is a short list of appetizers, salads, and entrees. The other pages of the menu are occupied by the specialty cocktails, beers, and wines by the glass or the bottle. For this visit I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli. The savory squash filling with the sweet cranberry brie butter was quite the combination. Definitely a solid choice. With our 3 year anniversary looming, Kay and I came to Bistro 19 after striking out reservation-wise with several other restaurants. My lack of foresight became destiny for Bistro 19 gave us a scenic, gourmet flight with no turbulence encountered. Dimly lit with wavy patterns decorating the fang-white walls, we were given a commodious and comfy booth in the back of the dining room (it helps to mention that you'll be celebrating an anniversary when you make your reservation). Since our reservation was for 5pm, an hour after their opening time, we felt almost as if Bistro 19 belonged solely to us as we each cracked open the ornate, metal-backed menus, if only until the dinner crowd began to dribble in concurrently with the mild rain. A typically tasty Caesar Salad kicked off my end of this special meal. A crunchy plank of foccacia crostini bread came with the anchovies-garnished mound of fresh Romaine, diced tomato, and grated Parmesan, the tart and milky dressing acting as the salad's reason to exist, countering the brine of the small strips of cured, oily fish. If there was a textbook ideal for Caesar Salads, this would have been it in terms taste and presentation. Pan Seared Sea Scallops were the appetizer of the evening, and like the salad, were made to shine by a tiny, essential component. In this instance, it was the inclusion of a bacon marmalade, the exquisite union of brackishness and sugar topping the juicy, quivering scallops which in turn capped disc-shaped croutons. A sensational smoked tomato vinaigrette that called up Russian or Thousand Island dressed an eclectic pile of mixed greens in the middle of the two pillars. Having poured through the menu online and at the restaurant, I had trouble deciding what I wanted. All of the items were good, good reads but either contained components I don't care for or were simply dishes I've had too often of late. I finally stopped dallying and arbitrarily chose the Black Tiger Shrimp. Wolfgang Puck probably wouldn't have approved of the dense risotto (he'd likely thin it out with chicken stock), but it was tasteful enough that I minded very little, lugging the shrimp through it before every bite. I had planned on indulging in the Caramel Popcorn Sundae after dinner, but considering it was an anniversary we were observing, we were brought a helping of the Banana Foster Napoleon to share, complete with a lone candle sunk into it. Turnovers and baklava are easy comparisons with flaky meeting syrupy halfway. Gobs of scratch whipped cream kept things from being too decadent as tangy blueberries countered the hot starch of the banana chunks. A pastry's pastry sitting in a shallow lake of saccharine goo and filled with a luscious vanilla creme, we were left with no reason to complain and every reason to return (I want...to try...that sundae...). Bonus: We were not charged for the dessert! Stopped here for lunch to try it out. They have a bar as well as outdoor seating and free WiFi. When I had called about reservations for lunch I was told that they were necessary but recommended. I could see when I arrived at how packed this little place is. I was in the mood for a salad so I opted for the salmon salad that had goat cheese and cranberries on it. I was served delicious bread and soft butter to go with it. I found my salad to be very good but thought the salmon slightly dry. Still it was a very good meal. Over at the next table the man had ordered chicken salad on a croissant that came with pasta salad. I heard him say, "if they put anymore chicken in this croissant they would have to exclude the wings" I could see if was huge and it looked very good. He later told me he enjoyed it and was worthwhile. If you decide you want to order a sandwich or croissant it normally comes with a pasta salad. If you prefer French fries or sweet potato fries then there is a $2.00 upcharge. My waitress was very friendly and attentive to my needs. Bistro 19 is located in the Mt. Lebanon business district about 2 blocks from their parking garage. My recommendation is if you are driving then park here because the rates are very inexpensive. I definitely wish to return here to try out their other offerings. Dinner is available too but again I would recommend you make a reservation. Bistro 19 is an intimate restaurant to get a classy dinner. Reservations recommended as seating is limited. Bar seating available. It can get loud but is not as bad as other places I have been. The server was professional and very friendly. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. The setting is intimate in the evening so I think it's best for small groups. I think this is moderate on the price scale as we spent around $100 for 2 people including drinks and desserts. However, I think the delicious meal is definitely worth the price paid. My only complaint is that my pumpkin ravioli were a little al dente for my taste. The calamari appetizer and Caesar salad was slightly lacking in flavor and I would try something else should I return. The tiger shrimp dinner was phenomenal and I highly recommend it! Both the banana foster Napoleon and bread pudding were fantastic and I would get either one again. Overall, I was very satisfied with my meal and experience and will be back! read more
