    a sandwich and french fries
    Amanda H.

My experience here was mediocre. The staff were really friendly and service was prompt. I went for lunch on a rainy Tuesday at 1. I was super excited to try the turbo turkey. I don't think that is what I was served. The cook came out to apologize for not using ciabatta bread. He said he could fix it, but I was hungry so I didn't have him switch the buns. As I kept eating, I became a little disappointed. No pepper jack cheese and no avocado. What I got seemed like just a basic club sandwich. It was really good, don't get me wrong. I was just a little disappointed. The fries were good, but you have to pay extra to have them instead of Bishop chips and you don't get that many. Overall, everything was just ok. Hopefully if I visit again the experience will be different.

    Ham and bean + zucchini!

Ham & Bean soup to die for! Served with a side of thick, soft buttered bread. It was all that, trust me. We started with zucchini strips which was a generous serving and an equally generous side of very flavorful marinara. Hubs had the Pork Chop Special: one chop + side of potatoes and some very colorful, super flavorful Corn & Black Bean Salad. I had to steal some of the latter and it was very yummy. I also had the Caesar Salad. Meh, it was ok. Also served with the thick, soft buttered bread. The place is small, only a handful of tables. The parking lot is a challenge, small and packed. The service is great and the food is fabulous home - style cooking, served hot. If you're sick of the chain eatery experience and looking for a great casual meal, this is it!

    Italian Sub w/Fries ...

I was little torn about writing this review, as I hate to talk bad about small businesses, but I came here for lunch a few weeks ago, and from my vantage point at the bar, I could see into the kitchen, and watched the cook make my food, and I could see that she never washed the produce that went on my Italian Sub. I saw lettuce and tomatoes that went straight from the plastic packaging, to the knife for slicing, and then onto my food. It grossed me out, as those things should've been washed before prepping. Also, I overheard one of the employees say they needed to purchase some meatballs from one of the food service companies, so that means they are not freshly made, but frozen. My lunch was O.K., but it wasn't the same Bishop's Hoagie that I used to eat here back in the day, when this place still sold ice cream, those hoagies were awesome. So, sad to say, no cheers for this place, which is unfortunate, because I wanted to try the turtle soup one day, but I most likely won't be coming back.

The Turbo turkey is LEGIT. Of course one isn't enough, so an order comes with 2 sandwiches:)

Duuuuuuuude, what an awesome place!!! I had been here a few times when it was the American Cafe, and I really enjoyed it, but now it's on another level. It's been spruced up a bit and the food is top notch. We came here and they were short staffed and their cook called in sick, so their menu was limited. We had a BBQ chicken pizza and stuffed peppers, and both were Fantastic! The lady wasn't comfortable grilling chicken so she used chicken tenders instead and it was awesome! The stuffed peppers were served with buttered Italian bread and in a bowl with plenty of sauce for dipping. Charlie, the bartender, was great, and their prices are very reasonable! Will definitely be back!

It was a typical retro-vintage stop inside, and I was forewarned by the veteran waitress they were open only for the next half-hour. I reassured her I was not planning to stay long. It must've been the end of a long shift for her because she was grumbling to the busboy about the other waitress who decided to leave early. This other woman, clearly the 'Kiss Mah Grits' type, alienated me by calling me Mr. Miyagi and cackling about it to the rest of the staff. I thought I might be expected to recite lines from "The Karate Kid". Instead I ordered the $11.25 Grilled Meatloaf Melt, which came with quite a slice covered in fried onions and melted Swiss cheese barely held together by the toasted rye bread. It was on the greasy side, and the fries were dried out (Photo 10). What would Mr. Miyagi say? DeLuca's is exactly what I'm looking for in a diner! Old school place, seating was comfortable, and our waitress made us feel right at home! I went with the Steel City and that included everything! Pancakes (which our lovely waitress added complimentary bananas to), hot sausage, bacon, home fries, eggs, and Italian bread toast. Everything was cooked perfectly! Hot sausage and eggs made a perfect sandwich on that bread! My wife had a delicious omelette. Such a wonderful send off from Pittsburgh!

I heard about this place thanks to AI and my research into the most quintessential Pittsburgh eats…read more Kelly O's was listed as a place that served the "pittsburgh salad" which seems to be a run of the mill house salad with fries and mounds of shredded cheese on top. Because most things are better with fries and cheddar cheese on top, logic indicates salad would be one of them. Fortunately, it is located in the vicinity of the strip district which one visiting Pittsburgh would likely visit at one point or another so the few block walk isn't a big ask. There is also parking! It's on the smaller side but we were able to grab a table about an hour before closing during the week. This does look like a place locals go but that is not something I can verify. I will say that it was on DDD which does provide some street cred as far as I am concerned. I already knew I was getting the salad. They have haluski as well which was also on my list of local foods to try so we were able to kill two birds with one stone. The salad was gigantic. It was probably about the size if not slightly smaller than the fucking massive serving bowl of salad my Mom used to put on the dinner table. The fries were delicious, loved the mound of shredded cheese, olives, cucumbers, all that good stuff was fresh and crisp. The greens were spring mix which I am not particularly fond of. It gets too wilty and it grosses me out so it definitely diminished my ability to enjoy the dish. I ate mostly the fries, some olives, and cucumbers. GF ate the haluski because it has some pork in it. She noted that it was 99% cabbage and almost no noodles which was a disappointment. Service was really good, shit came out quick and our server literally gave me a to go iced tea as we were getting the check it was fucking adorable.
