Thanks to Yelp, Zac contacted me after I posted my initial review and scheduled the third service visit. On this trip, Zac discovered the unit was not reversing due to the valve on the hose. He replaced the valve and did not inspect but suggest that I order new filter cartridges since they were the existing when we moved here 3 years ago, and the age of the filters was unknown. I appreciate that he made the effort of another service call so am adding an additional star. read more

Zach is doing a great job and actually takes the time to talk to customers in detail about their pool concerns. I previously tried another company and ended up getting charged about $300 for nothing. Not to mention all the time wasted on phone calls and emails trying to get people to talk to me about it or show up to my house when they say they will. Zach answered the phone and set a date to come out right away. He also told me up front what to expect as far as cost and some possibilities of what the issue could be, which was a big plus. Zach came out when he said he would and did what he said he was going to do for the price we agreed upon. He explained what he did and went in to detail about what to watch for and possible next steps if the solution we tried didnt work. He also did a really good job, and the issue seems to be fixed now (fingers crossed). A+ for customer service. We'll see if the patch holds up, but even if it doesnt (not his fault), he gave me a loose estimate of what i would be looking at if i needed to have some more expensive work done. The biggest thing for me is that i could clearly see the quality of work and he was willing to talk to me about it. Keep it up! I'm all about service people around the house. However after 4 failed pool services, I was wondering if a good one really existed! I met Zach while he was down the street servicing a neighbors pool. What the heck I thought to myself... Seeing how I dislike taking care of my own pool (a tree and hedge lined nightmare). Zach showed up within the hour and explained to me what the real issues that were going on. He sent me a written bid with equipment model numbers and the full price (very fair in my world). I took this info and quickly called a dear friend whose been servicing pools in the Marin area for 30 years, near San Francisco. She said it was exactly what she would have recommended knowing my pools odd requirements power wise and landscaped issues. Zach da man, installed all new equipment at the price quoted. My pool has never looked better or run cheaper. Okay so Zach's weekly service also has a lot to do with this! No more over spending on chemicals due to old (20 years) crappy inefficient equipment or an inefficient pool service person. We replaced our old single speed main pool pump with a Sta-Rite IntelliPro variable speed pool pump (VSP) a few weeks ago with Bishop Pool Service. Zac was knowledgeable and explained the job and potential options I had questions about. There was no up-selling and everything was installed and delivered on time and as promised. This was one of our efficiency improvement projects as we continue to run our house at "net zero" energy use (including heating and electric vehicles). The new system is much quieter and far more efficient. When the booster pump doesn't need to run the pool sweeper (only need to run that pump 1 hour per day), we have confirmed the VSP uses at least 80% less electricity than the single speed pump it replaced when running the main filtration cycle to filter the same amount of water. While running at that low speed, the VSP can not be heard at all from the bedroom on the other side of the wall and only in the backyard if one gets close up to it. read more

I have to second an earlier opinion....Zach is da Man! He helped fix and answer questions related to our pool plumbing, remote controls, landscape lighting, and the spa, even though it's not his forte (see comment later). Serendipity allowed me to fix some of my pool pump issues for which I had originally called Zach, but I had a good feeling about the reviews I'd read, and wanted to keep the appointment for other pool-related/backyard needs. He called back a day later (he wasn't sure if he could make the requested time), confirmed for the following Tuesday, and called ahead just like he said! And appeared at the time stated. Do you know how often that happens with other service people? Without embellishment, Zach has the right stuff to succeed in the pool business; he is prompt, service oriented, reasonably priced, knows his limits (no spas please), and willing to share his knowledge. If I could give this pool service zero stars I would. We had used the same pool service for 10 + years and the owner moved out of state so we had to find someone new. I read the reviews and Bishop Pool Service had decent reviews so I decided to hire them for chemical only pool service. On day one, they started wanting to fix things around the pool and were really adamant about this and that needing to be repaired. There wasn't a single repair less than $500 but whatever. Our pool became green after week 1 of using this service. Our tech just kept saying we needed a new pump which would cost $2800 even though I said we've had the same pump for 15 years and never had a problem. The pump actually did break. They offered to come look at it for a fee of $125. I gave my husband the details and he responded that he could order a new pump from Amazon for $150 and fix it himself. The pump was fixed with 5 days. The pool understandably got greener. We ran the brand new pump 24 hours per day and the pool got worse and worse. On the 3rd week, I met the tech outside. I started telling him the pool needs algaecide He kept insisting we needed a new pump because ours was "too small" even though we've had it and it has worked perfectly for 20 years. He told me he would put chlorine in it to "hold it over". I've never had a pool service try and upsell me different things every single week. I'm not a chemist but it felt to me like they were intentionally keeping the pool green to force us to spend money on fixes. After the tech left after maybe the 4th week of using this company. My husband and I went to Walmart and bought chlorine and agaecide and the pool was blue and crystal clear within 48 hours. It has been ever since. I emailed Zack, told him we would no longer be needing their services. I never heard back from anyone wasn't even sure they received my email cancelling services. I received a bill for $35 dollars and politely ask that they wave this fee due to everything I just put in this review. The response I got was, "Unfortunately the fee is still due". Please do not use this service. They only want to sell new equipment and don't care if they lose a client. I kept thinking someone would call or email asking what had happened but no one ever did. It took a lot for me to post this review as I know how a small business may be impacted by a negative review! But I thought I had to share some information! When I first contacted them, nick, the pool cleaning guy, came over and looked at my fountain and the pool, and said it would be no problem and gave me a quote! Based on all the positive reviews, I hired him and he started! After about 2 months, my fountain kept getting greener and dirtier and I finally talked to nick and he said he is taking care of it and it applying solutions! Well after another month, the fountain looked even worse and he finally came out and said this was his first fountain and he doesn't have a clue how to clean it!!! So why didn't he tell me upfront? I didn't appreciate that. I needed someone that could take care of both pool and fountain! So I had to let them go. After 4 months my fountain looked like a swamp! So I am just warning you, if you have a fountain , save yourself some time and money and go with someone else! read more

We called Bishop Pool Service when our pool service company wasn't meeting their obligations. From the moment Zach and Nick came to our house, we could tell they cared about the business. They were both very helpful and attentive to our needs. We had an older pool that was difficult to keep up, but Nick made certain to make it swimmable until we could afford a resurfacing. Nick would always tell us what we could do to make our pool last longer without any pressure of up selling or changing our servicing plan. Update: our back-up valve on our bottom pool skimmer cracked while we were on vacation, and Zach said he'd fix it the following week (which he did, on a Friday). Saturday morning the valve "blew off" the hose spewing chlorinated water everywhere. I reattached it myself later in the day, and Sunday morning it blew off again. Numerous attempts to reach Zach over the weekend were to no avail (come Monday we got the news " FYI: I don't have my cell over the weekends" --- really? Or you just don't care when a customer has an emergency after a repair you did fails?). We lost faith in him over this incident and was willing to let him come on his last pre-paid Friday of July, and he decided to "let's just call it over". We did. read more

Bishop Pools was really helpful in educating us about our pool/spa combo heating options (had gas heater that didn't work). We had previously been told by another company over phone that our heater was too old and he didn't want to bother himself or us with service call unless we were looking at getting new unit. When Bishop came out, Zac spent quite a while trying to see if if he could repair our unit. It did end up having too many issues and would require a bigger investment vs a replacement with same new unit. But we appreciated he took time to actually see if it was possible to fix first. He never tried to up-sell and was very practical with advice about our pool system in general, since we didn't want to spend a lot more money. Zac swapped out the majority of our pool equipment a few weeks back. After receiving a high verbal bid from my own pool service I reached out to Zac for a quote. He came by and told me what he recommended. Then he sent me a written quote. The price was much much better. Zac seems like a straight shooter, no bs. We decided to try this company after reading the numerous favorable reviews on Yelp. Because of some scheduling conflicts and poor cell reception during our initial attempts, it took awhile before we were finally able to coordinate schedules and meet in person. The other reviews are accurate. Zach is extremely knowledgeable about pools, equipment, salt systems and solar. Although we initially set up this appointment as a consultation, Zach took the time to do a full service on our pool, including adding necessary chemicals, cleaning our salt system and reprogramming our auto-chlorinator. After calling several other local pool companies (based on online and personal referrals), and never getting a call back, we found Bishop Pool Service on Yelp. We called Zack and got a call back the next day. Zack came out to look at our pool -which was basically a swamp since our home was a short sale- and quoted us close to 1/2 of what we had heard pool clean up would cost. He was friendly and easy to work with, and our pool started looking good fast! I knew Zach did pool repair and since he had great reviews on Yelp I thought I would give him a call and see if he would work on my above ground spa. Zach said he has, but prefers not to work on spas. Gave me a couple of options for people that do work on spas. Zach talked to me for 10 minutes on the phone, even though he knew he was not going to get my business. In talking through my problem he stated that most often when a spa trips the GFI breaker the heating coil is shorted. Being mechanically inclined I tore into the guts of the spa. When I disconnected the heater, sure enough, the breaker no longer tripped. Ordered the part online and replaced it. The final cost was $40. I had a majority of my pool equipment replaced by Bishop pool service and repair about 8 months ago. We were happy with the initial installation and even did a few additional things because we felt like we were being well taken care of. I have also recommended them to several people on social media because I thought we had found someone good. FASTFORWARD - This week I had some questions about how to program the upgraded control system they installed because I thought the programs had changed. When I got on the phone with Zac he had no idea who I was since he "has seen over a 100 pools since he did ours" he very reluctantly spent less than 5 minutes giving me the information I needed. When I spend several thousand dollars with a company my expectation is that I get a friendly response when I contact them. Obviously, Zac is not interested in maintaining future business or additional referrals, it sounds like he is busy enough. I was going to ask him for a quote to replace the filter, the only piece of equipment I didn't replace last year but I'll find someone else with better customer service. read more

I had Bishop out to replace a control box/panel for my pumps, pool and spa lights. Zac and his employee came out on the appointed day and put in exactly what I was looking for in the way of a basic timer system and manual switches for everything else. His price was fair right up front and they did a great wiring job even protecting some wiring that was from my salt water generator that should have been in conduit. When my 5yr old pump goes I'll be sure to consider them again. read more
