I was in Bishop and decided to stay here for the night. The office is very small and was only able to have one customer check in at a time. Make sure to ask for the Wi-Fi password before you go to your room because they don't tell you ahead of time. The room was a little small but it was comfortable. There was enough lighting. We park right by the door, so it is convenient to move the luggage. I only wished they had a small table by the windows side. read more

We have been staying here at least once a year for years. The location is so quiet compared to all the other hotels clustered along the 395. I like one story places where you park right outside your door. Plus, on this visit, our room was freshly painted, had new curtains, and the bathroom had an updated sink and shower surround. Whiskey Creek, serving the best cocktails and food in town, is only a short walk away. The lawn area has chairs and tables overlooking the park next door. read more

The Bishops Elms Motel is a family run business. It is away from Bishop 's Hwy 395 hubbub. If you want a centrally located but quiet place to stay, the Bishop Elms Motel is the perfect place for you! Since my last visit, our room has been upgraded and renovated. New paint, shower and bathroom fixtures. It all looks very nice! I have stayed here every time that I've come to Bishop because the owners Harry and Romalia have been incredibly friendly to us throughout the years. The Elms Motel is nothing flashy. I don't need that when I stay here in Bishop. I need comfortable. That is exactly what I've gotten every time. Their beds are not too hard or soft. Their bathrooms are functional. They have cable, a coffeemaker in every room, free Wi-Fi, a continental breakfast, an outdoor sitting area, and a fish cleaning station. The Elms Motel backs up against the park next door and is walking distance to many great restaurants in Bishop. I don't know if this has anything to do with this review, but this motel is located on a street that has beautiful, tall, and old trees that sway and sound so beautiful in the wind. This is prime location for exploring Mammoth, the White Mountains, Hot Springs, and the Eastern Sierras. Everything is within a 45 minute drive. The property has recently been remodeled and the rooms are quiet, clean and cozy. The best part of our stay is how kind the property owners are. Extremely friendly and accommodating. Stayed here plenty of times prior 2016 . Very different experience with new owner . Checked in for 2 nights 2023 fishing opener ..with my 15yr old nephew felt like I was being watched right away amenities were very minimal..we left fishin early am I posted do not disturb on door and also did the old peice of papper on door .trick when I closed ..sure enough .owner gained entry without consent ..felt violated ..and unwelcome ..I didn't want to raise any issue at the time because he had warned me 15 times about the new flooring he had just installed ..and didn't want any unnecessary charges on my credit card ...felt like walking on eggshells .this place is a minus 10. .one nighter...when all other rooms are booked..rooms were upgraded but very low quality construction...bed sheeting and pillows very old and dingy ..bring your own ..rooms are very small ..and windows do no operate properly. Actually not up to fire code ..took 2 of us to open ..also if you hang out in back patio area ..owner will stalk you and give you dirty looks ..great location but not a good place to feel welcomed ...more of a trucker stop..last resort last minute ..no imenity ..stay .. read more

A nice and small motel. It's not fancy by any means, but it doesn't the job of having a clean room to sleep while you're in town. The staff is nice. It doesn't have all the things that some motels in the area have (pool, fridges) but it is a good place to rest after a long day of fishing. We'd stay here again. read more

I'd rate this place even worse if I could BEWARE!! Very very rude people. Specialy the Indian man who goes by the name Harry. Attempt # 1. I called them to make a reservation, I was asked for my phone number so they can call me back in 1 hr so we can book the room.(During the entire conversation he sounded irritated and bothered as if I woke him up burdened him). 2 - 3 hours passed, no call. Attempt # 2. I called back requesting a reservation once again. Same guy picked up. I asked if he was available now to book over the phone. With a sigh he said yes, and took down my info almost as if he was rushing me off. We confirmed the dates and hung up.(during the transaction I had an uneasy feeling like he messed something up, specialy when he said I'll see you tomorrow when im booking the room for 3 days later). Attempt # 3. A day passed by i kept thinking why he said that, did he gey the dates wrong. Must be a mistake let me call and confirm so i dont ruin my annual fishing trip. This time a lady picks up. I tell her i want to confirm my reservations. She takes down my info looks it up and confirms for the days inhad chosen (mon-wed). So I hang up at ease. Come Monday (my check in date I get a voicemail saying my reservation is cancled due to no show. I asked hows that possible its today and I drove 40 miles to get here. She says it was for sunday you didnt show. I said is the room available now still must have been a communication error. Before I can finish the same guy grabbed the phone from the lady and started arguing with me. Telling me I was wrong and he wrote it down and calling me a liar. At this point I told him I dont want to argue with you, it was a miss understanding and if the rooms available I am in town. Before I can finish my sentence he hung up on me!! His mistake, and he HUNG UP on me like a big F U we dont want you here. Im shocked and amazed. I've stayed here before old rooms and showers had a problem smelled like mold and fish guts. Thought I'd givee them another try because of the location and distance to our fishing hole. Never again will I recommend or want anyone to go through that. That's not how geusts should be served. They dont deserve to be in business. He claimed to be the owner! I ended up getting cheaper rooms with better amenities at the Motel 6 out of all places and without ruining my fishing trip!!! read more

I'll start by saying that I Googled hotels for tonight and it showed there was a $50 special deal rate at the Elms Motel. I walked into the office and heard a loud groan from the manager in the other room, clearly annoyed that someone had come in. He walked out and stretched his arms up and yawned and (in his thick accent, not that this matters for any reason other than other people below who also dealt with a man with a thick Indian accent) grumbled, "yes how can I help you" in a very short and irritated tone. I showed him the $50 rate that google had pulled up for this hotel tonight on my phone and he immediately got irate, "I don't know who put that!" I asked if he would honor it anyway, and he said "if you can book it, go for it!" Meaning I should book it on my phone. He then stormed back into the other room, where I could hear a woman murmuring something. I stepped outside to see if I could actually book it at that rate. I stepped outside to do it because the office smelled so, so, so awful. Like mold and old cooking oil and maybe even cigarettes? From what I read in the other reviews the rooms don't smell much better and have black mold too, but I didn't make it into a room. I got to the screen where I could book the room at the Google deal for $50, but decided I didn't want to give this jerk my money anyway, I'd rather sleep in my van in the rain. I went inside and held up my phone, showing him that I could book this room at $50 if I wanted to, but decided not to because he was so rude. I said this very calmly while looking him in the eye, I wasn't losing my temper. I thought it might give him a chance to apologize or try to make things right. He actually started laughing at this point, and said, "HA! You're not staying here because you couldn't book it! You're lying!" When I held my phone up to him again and said that indeed I could book it if I pressed that button, he said, "NO! You couldn't book it hahaha!" At this point I started to leave but said, starting to lose it a little, "I'm not staying here because you're incredibly rude!" He just started yelling in an almost diabolical tone "THANK YOU! BYE! YES THANK YOU BYE!" While still laughing. He even followd me out the door and kept yelling and laughing as I got in my van. This man is insanely rude (and maybe just insane?) and the establishment honestly seems like it's a total dump. Compare this to the Trees Motel on the other side of town where the management bent over backwards to make my stay wonderful. An old hotel to be sure with its own funkiness, but with wonderful management who are nice and care about the people who walk in the door. DON'T GO HERE. read more

Harry has always gone out of his way to make sure me and my boys are always taken care of. I have read through all of the reviews and I have great news for everyone. This is a great little gem in Bishop. I came off a week-long backpacking trip, and decided to stay an extra night in Bishop rather than drive home. It's one block off the main drag near a quiet neighborhood, so much less traffic noise than the rooms I had a week earlier at one of the cheap chain motels. Old-school, but very clean, small cottage-like buildings with a couple units in each one, so there's little noise. The owners are a very nice family, and they truly show pride in their small operation. The room was under $80 for two queen beds, quick and simple. I think it's about the nest deal in town. The best part - there's no phone in the room! Exactly what a vacation hide-out should be. This will be my first choice in Bishop for base-camp before hiking and climbing trips... read more

Stayed here as a jump off point to mammoth the next morning. The hotel was about what I expected. The beds were okay the pillows weren't the nicest. There was a tv with free wifi and parking. I mean when your getting as low a rate as they advertise you aren't going for luxury. They really met all of my needs but didn't go over the top on anything. Just got back from staying four nights at the Elms. I don't mind old and certainly wasn't looking for anything fancy but this place was beyond that. 1. The room smelled bad to make me wonder if I'd be able to sleep. 2. No chair or table. Had to move a night stand and sit on the bed to use my laptop. 3. Shower was very dark and had some mold (is it that hard to clean off mold?). The flow restricter in shower head made it take a long time for the hot water to get there (run the hot in the sink first if you say there) and adjusting the temperature was very difficult. 4. Soap was unusable for me (glad I had brought some of my own). Seemed to be a mixture of very stinky perfume and chalk. 5. Coffee maker was filthy. 6. The two pillows on the bed were not at all comfortable. 7. They kept turning off the A/C during the day which didn't help with the smell. I'd be extremely upset with this if they did it in summer as the unit was big enough for the room size. 8. Housekeeping was inconsistent and missed at least one thing every day. read more

So, before I go into details, let's set some context: it's a motel in a very remote area where lodging is scarce during high climbing season. Anywhere else, this would be a 1-star review. PROS: - clean room, looks like it was renovated - decent beds and linen - good location - Teachings of Buddha instead of Bible - kind of cool, just for a change CONS: - dark (as in, no light!) shower space with broken showerhead - stuffy room, only source of air is AC (more on that below) - deafening loud AC! I mean, really. So noisy you have to speak up to talk over it! - breakfast so bad that I wish they didn't include it. I know "continental breakfast" means "barely any food: cereal, toast, egg and maybe some fruit", but in Elms it is cereal, toast... and that's it! We didn't even waste our time there and went out for breakfast - "free wifi" is so slow that you are better off using your cell phone data connection - $95 for a double room?!.. So overall, this is a pretty sad place. That said, if you're looking for lodging during high season, you probably realized already that there's not much to choose from, and it's all expensive... read more

This was the only room available in Bishop. It's an old motel but was clean and the AC was cool on a hot summer night. The owner was extremely friendly and breakfast was a bonus. The room does smell bad, The A/C was so loud that we barely slept...Breakfast was choice of bad coffee, orange juice, milk, bread, some muffin and 2 kind of cereals, that's all. Nothing really appealing...The Showers are terrible, we didn't even shower that day... And All of that for 176$ !!!! It's really a rip off. The bed was comfy though and it has a nice view and it's kind of cute from outside...This place could be so so much better... I booked a room for a family memorial three months in advance and found out I have a rare disease so we would be unable to make the trip. I called the hotel and spoke to a man with a foreign accent and explained our situation. The minute I said I was calling to cancel as my doctor would not let me travel he got really rude. He said I have no reservation for you and I need the confirmation number. I said it's through booking.com and confirmed. He said what is the number and I said it is free now to cancel and I want you to know I am cancelling. He said lady you have some cables loose and hung up on me. I pulled up the booking online and called him back and gave him all the info I had on booking.com and he said that is not a good number. I said I have a picture now of it would you like me to send it to you and he said no and hung up on me. I am so glad we did not meet him. I was appalled by his behavior. Do NOT book here if you may have to cancel as you will be treated nasty by this man. Why was I not in his books if the reservation was three weeks from when I called? Zero stars and this man has "cables loose." One star showed up and would not delete "0" stars. I grew up in Bishop and it is sad to be treated this way. So sad! read more

We showed up at 10 PM Saturday night and the office door was locked. We rang the bell and the owner was at the door 10 seconds later. We said sorry for being so late and he said no problem. The room [or should i say mini bungalow) was less than 100 feet away. Great spacious clean room with a flat screen tv and 2 comfortable double beds. For $55 a night, we were beyond satisfied. If you happen to reserve it for two, their system most likely will have the reservations under the secondary persons name. Cottage style rooms with the retro look of the 50's in each. Nothing fancy just a clean place to hang one's hat and be just two blocks off the 395, away from traffic but close enough to walk to restaurants, the visitor's center, and the shops of downtown. Window A/C and Heat units which can be loud to some but were just fine for us. Linens clean and beds comfortable. Because this is an older motel some of the shower heads are very low which may be a problem for a taller person, but the water pressure was good and towels fine. Our go to accommodations when visiting the Eastern Sierras for backpacking and day hiking. Parking adjacent to your room. The grounds include a grassy area with tables to enjoy morning coffee or evening happy hour. Property is next to a city park and while not accessible from the motel grounds it is a quick walk there. Continental breakfast is very basic but good enough for the first coffee of the morning; Schat's Bakery and Jack's restaurant are close by for those who need more. We always feel welcome and look forward to staying here on our next visit to Bishop. read more

There is a reason I have been staying at the Elms for over 25 years. The motel is one of a kind, located conveniently to town yet secluded and quiet. The bungalow type units are quaint, and all are at ground level. The motel abuts the town's beautiful park and provides a lovely green strip where you can relax and socialize with your friends and with other guests. Harry and Ramila have always gone out of their way to accommodate my friends and I, as the Elms is our place to both organize and to wind down our annual High Sierra backpacking expeditions. In earlier days, my wife and I would bring our sons and stay two nights before heading up to Tahoe. The Elms is Bishop's hidden gem. read more

Disgusting. Everything is VERY old in these rooms. The shower is made for someone that is probably 4 feet tall and it is not very clean. The toilet was broken, so if you wanted to flush it, you had to reach into the tank that looks like it has never been clean to pull the chain. There was blood or something that looked like blood on the headboard of my bed. There were cockroaches in the bathroom. I didn't sleep at all the night we stayed there.
