Cafe Bishco is a definite must whether you live in, or are visiting, Gloucester. We were in town for a day trip, we walked right by, and almost didn't go in because it was such an unassuming place. We are so happy we turned around and went in, though! The prices were relatively cheap, especially when compared to the excellent quality and quantity of food we got. I ordered the smoked salmon with goat cheese and capers on a french roll while my partner ordered the BLT on multigrain bread. The salmon sandwich was absolutely delicious, with copious amounts of salmon and just the right amount of cheese. My partner said his BLT was the best he has ever had in his life, and my man eats a lot of BLTs! I wish there was a place like this in my neighborhood. read more

We have been searching for a nice place to get a soup, salad, or sandwich. We FOUND IT! Moved to Cape Ann three years ago and just finally decided to try this place. I am embarrassed it took this long. Great family who runs the place. First time we went in was on a Saturday night and I felt like I was sitting in my grandmother's kitchen with family. Oh yeah, and the soups and sandwiches we have tried, so far, are outstanding! VERY generous portions and very fresh tasting, especially the veggies. Cafe Bishco is the best!! They have free delivery and they deliver frozen yogurt as well as food. They upped their delivery minimum form $10 to $20 which was fine by me because I would always order a few frozen yogurts to keep in the fridge and a pita roll up or two for lunches for the next couple days. Their sandwiches are so good and healthy, the soups are really good too. The frozen yogurt is THE reason to go. It's bigger than a pint of ben and jerrys, and they can mix in as many toppings as you want (the list is endless) into a chocolate or vanilla base. The reason I loved it so much is because I'm lactose intolerant and they have an option of frozen tofu yogurt as a base. The only downside is that they get really busy, and it can sometimes be a 30 min wait for a pickup order, or an hour for a delivery order. They're not fast, but it's worth the wait! read more

This place was excellent. My boyfriend and I showed up right around 5 minutes before they closed. They didn't turn us away and didn't have a problem with the more intricate item my bf chose (a Greek wrap with chicken). The food was absolutely delicious and my turkey sandwich was one of the best I've ever had. The bread and veggies were so fresh and delicious. Worst customer service , the worker were rude and nosby. They were not wearing gloves touch any kind of thing and then touching the food. Me and another person order soup and it took over a half hour and they were messsing up orders. I will never come to this place again after the way me and my friend were treated. Great food, terrible service. I went in to get a chicken salad sandwich, which was delicious. However the girl who made my sandwich didn't ask if I wanted my bread toasted, just did it. Fine, I'll still eat it. However she was also eating at the prep board in front of the food. When she was putting my sandwich in a bag she stopped to throw away her empty drink cup (thankfully my sandwich was already wrapped). The gentlemen who rang me up informed me after I had already ordered that I had to use cash because he didn't know how to use the credit/debit card machine and the owner wasn't there. Seriously? To assuage the meat-eaters out there that this isn't a vegan-only joint, they make a sandwich called "The Bruin" (among others) that will knock your socks off (it's awesome and huge). Cafe Bishco is one of the best non-sit-down type places to eat in Gloucester. They are located right on Main Street and also deliver all over Cape Ann (Rockport, Gloucester and even Manchester). The place is owned by a really friendly woman named Derya who moved to the states from Turkey 15 years ago. She and her husband have owned several food spots over the years from Boston to Salem but their sole focus now is on Cafe Bishco. The place is small and isn't a sit-down type restaurant but there are some tables and couches if you did want to sit, especially if you're a tourist visiting Gloucester and aren't close to home for takeout. The place totally gives off the feel of family. Everyone that works there seems to be related,bthey are very loud & funny and seem to love what they do. After I ordered today, I sat down near their couch where a couple of their small children were playing. I've never met Derya (owner) before but she came out from behind the counter to sit with her kids and make conversation. She was super friendly and we we talked about where they delivered to, where the family came from and now lives, how she and her husband met etc. We talked about the food and I told her how amazing the chicken salad was. She then told me exactly what was in it and how she made it. It's pretty cool when people share that type of info instead of pretending everything's top secret. Her story was really interested and we also connected on mothers as we both have moms that are battling cancer. I love the food and she won me over even more so after speaking with her. So how about the food? We've had a slew of things on their menu but their chicken salad is phenomenal. It's not over loaded with mayo and has both a great flavor as well as consistency. The menu is HUGE and a little overwhelming at first but I love that you can always be satisfied no matter what you're in the mood for since there are endless options to choose from. Today we ordered the "California" but added grilled chicken. This wrap consist of avocados, olives, provolone, tomatoes, mesclun mix, sprouts, cucumber, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Like every sandwich at Cafe Bishco, it's huge. Everything was extremely fresh and had both a great crunch as well as great flavor. It wasn't swimming in dressing either so the other half (yes, they give you that much food) will hold together for later or tomorrow. We also ordered the Smoke Turkey & Swiss melt which was delicious. Smokey turkey, swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing packed onto delicious toasted white bread and boom, you have one hell of a sandwich. My wife loves Russian/Thousand Island dressing so I knew this would be right up her alley. We also order 3 soups that are always on point: beef chili, clam chowder & lemon chicken. This was the first time I'd had their chili and it was different, but really good. It had more of a sweet taste to than a spicy kick. I like spicy food so I normally would prefer some heat but the sweet taste was actually really tasty. I'm not sure if they add brown or white sugar but it was awesome either way. Oh and again, all three soups were gigantic. They give you some really great toasted Italian-type bread for dipping that was also a score. I grabbed a couple of drinks out of the cooler and with the 2 sandwiches, 3 soups and 2 drinks, my total was about 39 bucks. A little expensive for takeout but when you think about the quality and quantity of the food, it was well worth it. If you come to Gloucester you should really stop in for a sandwich or take some soup home for later. The place is a total gem and the people are great. read more

Food is good, but execution is awful. Meaning, order a sandwich and hope you get the right one with the correct ingredients, doubt it!!! Counter help is terrible. This is a consistent ongoing problem. I'd never post a bad review for a one time error. Ordered a sandwich with avocado, it has none. A sandwich with sprouts, none. Veggie wrap, no tomatoes. Got delivery, they didn't pack half the order. If you go in and pick up your order, I highly suggest you open up each bag and unwrap each sandwich as it's sure to incorrect. When you go to Cafe Bischo you will need 1) extra quarters to feed the meter 2) possibly a book 3.) a good sense of humor. We waited (with a 5 yr old and a baby) for our 3 sandwiches for 45 min! During that time they made everyone's sandwiches out of order. It did not matter in the least if you'd been there an hour or 5 minutes. I watched one little boy wait for over 1/2 hr. for his fro yo. Tables were in short supply but the owners 2 kids stayed sprawled out on the couch with their i-pads. I eventually just squeezed between them because the baby was getting heavy and ignored all the mine-craft going on around me. Finally got our to-go sandwiches and found a ticket on the car and our son's grilled cheese sandwich inexplicably heavily layered with tomatoes (cue crying). My husband works on Main St and they used to order sandwiches there but even with calling ahead, the people don't start the sandwiches until you physically arrive so now they get food from Lone Gull. Take it from me - go to Passports, at least you can sit while you wait. read more

This is such a fantastic little gem. Not only is the menu vast, it also has something for everyone. My husband is a hungry meat eater and I am a vegan and we both leave here 100% full, happy, and satisfied without dropping a wad of cash. The portions are gigantic for how inexpensive they are, I usually get two meals out of one order. They have a wide range of sandwiches (hot and cold) wraps, salads and soups, also hot and cold beverages which I have yet to try but have been told are amazing.You also never have to wait very long, they make things quickly but its always quality. Its a family-run place and the owners are extremely helpful and accommodating, and they definitely put their hearts into the cafe. They will always appreciate your business and make sure you're a happy customer. Everything I have tried there is delicious. Vegetables are always fresh and the different breads used are so good. The falafel roll up is my favorite but I have had a few other sandwiches that are also great. Portions are enormous - I can only ever have half. So today I got mad at a sandwich. It really wasn't the sandwich's fault, it was the fault of whoever the assembled the sandwich. I ordered the HS8...or something that had eggplant and tomato and mesclun greens. It sounded delicious do I ordered it. And then I got home and all I felt was regret. Regret that I will never have that 9 dollars back (which I thought was outrageous for a sandwich) and regret that I had nothing to eat for lunch. It was a soggy, greasy mess. The eggplant was so mushy and gross it has the consistency of fried baby food. That, on top of the mushy cooked tomato and the hot wilted greens made it impossible to actually lift the sandwich. I still held out hope that it would not taste as disgusting as it looked...but it did not end well. I posted pictures of what it actually looked like in case my description didn't help you fully visualize the madness. "Spinach salad with pine nuts" has no spinach in it and no pine nuts. They replaced the pine nuts with walnuts and the spinach with lettuce and didn't edit their menu or notify us when we ordered. My husband is allergic to walnuts so I had t mo come back and get it remade and the proprietor told me we should have ordered it with no nuts. Even though it said pine nuts and that's not really a nut it's a seed. read more

First time in here last night. 5 of us got food to bring to the Cape Ann cinema and all of us loved our sandwiches. As some other yelpers noted, the varied wait times was a little puzzling-our friends who beat us here were still waiting on their order of similiar sandwiches when we were done, but theirs came soon after. Worth the wait. Will be back to get more sandwiches and try the yogurt, the people who told us about it have been fans of the yogurt for months. No weird small talk from any staff as some other yelpers complained about, wouldn't really have cared anyways once we tasted the food. read more
