Bishco has a huge menu and manages to get it all done in mediocre fashion. Some items shine, like their sandwiches and froyo, both offering great quality and huge portions for what you're paying. However, anything else on the menu here doesn't make the cut in my opinion. At the end of the day, its a place worth checking out, but any cafe that uses microwaves as its main source of cooking doesn't deserve 5 stars. While looking for a place for dinner we found Cafe Bishco. I really enjoy saying "Bishco." Go on, try it. I find myself in a crappy Russian accent while doing it. Anyway the food. The board menu is a little intimidating but once you take it all in they have a decent amount of choices for you to choose from. What's nice about this place is it has a good half and half of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. Usually places only cater to one or the other, so this restaurant having a mix of options is really nice. Also the atmosphere really fits into the area, as it's nice and clean, but still has the feeling of a mom and pop kind of like the record store and indie movie theater near it. I personally had the teriyaki chicken wrap which was really good and very well priced. If you're looking for a good well priced meal this is a great place for it. read more

This place used to be really good and had a unique menu. But it has become bland and really slow. My last visit was ruined when I found a long thick black hair in my roll up. I am gray and mostly bald for the record. My Thai chicken roll up was over filled with very soggy rice and little else -- though the menu listed many other things. It used to be a fresh and tasty sandwich. This is the blandness I mentioned. A sandwich my son ordered was equally plain. I don't know if it is new ownership of what. But I would choose other places from now on. read more

My husband and I rarely try new places in town. He requested soup and a wrap so, the reviews on this place seemed to fit the bill. I'm so glad we went and we will be back! I thought they only served frozen yogurt, which they do, even tofu versions. This place is a hit with vegetarians and vegans. They proudly boast that they have no fryolators and that everything is made fresh. Large soup menu that I need to try more of this winter. The sandwiches are huge! Great alternative to a sub shop. The atmosphere was cool and I was happy to hear they are open until 11, since the sidewalk folds up in Gloucester mostly at 9 or earlier. Loud ethnic music was actually nice to hear and the owner was very friendly! We definitely will be back to try more of this place. read more

We ate here today- myself, my husband and my (almost) 4 year old. The sandwiches are amazing. Seriously delicious! I can't remember the names of our sandwiches now, figures lol but my son got a grilled cheese sandwich which came with chips and a sliced up banana. He was excited about the banana, and the plate of food looked so appealing and cute! The guy who maybe owns the place? Was super nice. Really sweet! I wish I asked his name. Anyhow- the music was great too, low key and relaxing. The whole vibe of this cafe was just what I was looking for. Free wifi as well, and about 5 tables and a couch as far as seating. Great place with a ton of sandwich options. We will definitely be back, I have more sandwiches to try! Oh and they also have frozen yogurt and a bunch of flavors- for $5 you get a VERY decent amount of frozen yogurt (one price, one size) we got the M&MS one and it was so yummy. It fed all 3 of us. Wonderful place in a perfect location too! Highly recommend read more

Great food, and this was open late (until 11pm). Cafe Bishco exceeded my expectations, everyone was pleasant & quick. There were many options to choose from and also a great selection of soups. The food was tasty and had good flavor. I didn't feel weighed down after eating which is great. I would return! I liked their bread too!! read more

Bishco - Very tasty grilled cheese with tomato. Great bread too! - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Gloucester, Massachusetts

This place is just great. I don't even like sandwiches and I love all the very cool sandwiches they have here. Not your run of the mill sub/sandwich place, they have a sandwich to satisfy even the fussiest of customers. Free and really powerful WiFi ... no really ... whatever router he uses has a great signal. read more

I occasionally work in the Gloucester area and had stopped here once before. I had some time to kill so I came back again and it was even better than I remember. They have unique menu options, the portions are generous, the flavor and freshness of the food is incredible. For someone who views steak as a condiment more than a meal, this place has made a believer out of me as both of my meals have been vegetarian and better than most meals I've had. On top of the outstanding food, the service is also unbelievable. Friendly and personal as well as fast. If I could give this more stars I would! read more

this place has never really blown me away. the froyo is good. the food is just kinda bland in my opinion for the price. the staff are friendly & competent & quick. read more

The recommendations are spot on. Had the salmon sandwich and never, ever had as delicious tomatoes and cheese combination. I'm not a smoked salmon person but it was unbelievable. The other three in the party were equally impressed. Small place with a huge selection. Wish I lived there for weekly takeout. read more

Really good little shop with a huge interesting sandwich menu with great bread and quality ingredients. Staff is lovely, prices are fair. We had a French onion soup, Italian wedding soup and half sandwich combo. Had the half pressed prosciutto with fresh mozzarella, and tomato on focaccia. Half sandwich is huge. All delicious:) This is located in a triangle of greats. Cafe Sicilia, Virgilios, and Bischo. Thanks guys! Yum! We will be back. read more

Great food and awesome staff.

Colossal sandwiches...My daughter loves the #35 pannini mozerella, tomatoe and basil. My sophisticated son says the corned beef is unsurpassed, soups are homemade and yummy. I personally love the fact that they serve dairy-free tofu based softserve and can swirl in about 20 different flavors. I had the Bruin and my wife had a salad. Both were freshly made and served quickly by the proprietor. They were both tasty, and I had enough sandwich to take home and have the next day. There isn't much seating, but we found a table (though we were there late in the afternoon, not sure how the lunch rush would be). The music was different (we listened to a selection of Hawaiian covers of 50-60 classics), and as eclectic as the place. read more

Quickly friendly service. Stopped to grab some sandwiches to take on our whale watching cruise. Sandwiches were fine. I appreciated that they had gluten free bread. Pleasant experience. read more

This place definitely has it's ups and downs, but overall I always enjoyed my visits. That being stated, if you do not like hot weather or loud conversation it might not be the place for you. The place has poor air circulation and it would get quite hot when I would go there in the winter, so I can only imagine what it would be like come summertime. Also, the owners are there quite often, sometimes with their kids, and well... the conversation can become quite loud at times. I always found that a good set of headphones would do the trick, unless the conversation was being aimed at me, which happened from time to time. Definitely socialable people. I won't say my order was right all the time because it wasn't (though when pointed out was always fixed with apologies and a smile), I won't say that when my headphones were off I wouldn't get irritated by the repetitive music or the sometimes loud conversations that would interrupt my train of thought, but I will say that absent minded or no, they care about your happiness with their order and that goes a long way with me. Free wifi is good too and they're open late! The froyo is indistinguishable from ice cream and you can mix -anything- in there! I had the misfortune of picking a few toppings that they seemed to be regularly out of stock on, but there are so many other choices that it was no biggie. I forget which sandwich I had, but I think I would modify a grilled cheese and oooh that bread. Lovely, delicious focaccia with the perfect balance between chewy and crunchy. read more

Bicho is the best! I have a gluten allergy and they always accommodate me. Best variety of sandwiches and frozen yogurt ever!

Great sandwiches for the money! So big my husband and I share. Service is always friendly. Keep up the good work!

Had a couple of salads and were good for the most part. I strongly dislike canned olives and there were a lot of them on my goat cheese salad. Ton of baby croutons as well, also not a favorite. Rest of the salad was great. read more

Bishco has the BEST proscuitto and mozzarella panini in the WORLD. I have had many and none were ever this good. It was incredible. All the other sandwiches we got were great too. One of the greatest places to eat in Gloucester, Such a change for this resident! I know that everyone in Gloucester says Mike's is the place to go, but as they have gotten bigger the service is lacking making it a less desirable place to go. Cafe Bishco has fantastic service, the freshest foods and VARIETY, something this town needed. If you like turkey- Try the Revolution it is to die for... AND anything with their bacon is incredible, they have the best bacon I have ever encountered. If you do not opt to try their fro-yo there is a cute cupcake place a few doors down that makes some delicious desserts! read more

What's not to like? I haven't had anything in there that wasn't tasty and top quality. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the food takes a little too long to come out. However i now plan for that and find it a cool place to hang out, listen to a little music that i might never choose on my own and talk to the owners. The wife is really friendly and helpful. At first I thought the husband was a dick, but that couldn't be further from the truth. He is very friendly and has a unique sense of humor. The younger teen crowd loves the place and the owners have no problem letting them hang out there. read more

My husband and I were in search of lunch after a fun whale watching expedition. We stumbled upon this bistro after a quick search for vegetarian friendly restaurants in the area. We ordered a falafel wrap which was delicious.. The portion size was huge and the quality of the food was very fresh, healthy and not at all greasy. The owners were warm and friendly and the food was really well priced. Great value for the cost. The food is also vegetarian and vegan friendly. read more

I absolutely love this place! My husband and I go here all of the time. The female owner is very kind and sweet, but her husband can come off as loud, crass & a little rude at times, which is why I didn't give Bishco the full 5 stars that their food probably deserves. Their frozen yogurt is delicious and there are so many great mix-in options! But I think my favorite items on the menu have to be their beef & chicken teriyaki wraps, eggplant parm wrap, meatball sandwich, beef chili, & honestly, their chicken salad sandwich on foccia is not to be rivaled (I recommend adding lettuce, onion & cucumbers to this sandwich)! All white meat, not too much mayo, and it has fresh herbs running through it. It's unique, delicious & definitely my personal fav! read more

Awesome food, extensive menu, great employees but extremely slow service. I've never had a bad meal here however it takes a really long time to get your order, even if you just get something simple. With that being said, I found it is worth the wait! read more

My daughter told me to visit here and my only regret is that I didn't do it earlier. I got the Special Roll-up - Grilled Chicken, eggplant, fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers sandwich. It was superb and big enough for two! The food was fresh and delicious. The menu has something for everyone and the value is very good (always the most important factor to me). The place is immaculately clean and there are tables with big windows so you can people-watch the West End - Gloucester's small version of Boston's North End. The service was prompt. They are open until 11:00pm too. For Gloucester, that's AMAZING. You won't be disappointed here. read more

Consistently excellent sandwiches. Have been here several times now and are never disappointed in the freshness and quality of the food. This is a family operation and they can get busy, so calling ahead is not a bad idea. The parking can occasionally be a challenge on Main St., but the food makes it all worth it. Personal favorite, #41 (yes, there are that many options). read more

One of my favorite places in town! Local owners and a great variety of sandwiches and some of the best froyo around! There is something for everyone and has a good variety of vegan and vegetarian friendly options. Prices are reasonable. I personally recommend the birthday cake frozen yogurt as well as coffee Nutella froyo! Delicious! They also usually have homemade cookies at the front that are delicious. For sandwiches I usually like the chicken cutlet with lettuce tomato pickles and cheese or the Boston college (chicken salad, bacon, lettuce tomato). Never had a bad meal here! They just got a mean Mac n cheese too! Parking can be challenging in the downtown area so I would recommend parking elsewhere and walking over. It's definitely worth it. read more
