This is the breakfast restaurant to eat at. Forget IHOP and Denny's, eat here. The food quality and customer service has been great every single time I've visited. The people who complain about long wait times on Mother's Day and other holidays are those who don't wake up early. Well, I dropped off my little one at Bansfield hospital this morning. Was in the mood for some pancakes the last few days. Since I was in the parking lot, decided to give this place another try. All I wanted was a simple order of two pancakes, and a glass of OJ. The server was very nice, and did a great job. Received my order very quickly, and since it was just two pancakes I was out there in no time. So, with two pancakes and one glass of OJ, I would have been OK with a bill around eight bucks? Even that would be on the high end, since my order was very simple. For two pancakes, I was charged $4.99. I was OK with that, I understand you have an overhead to take care off, and you can't charge $0.99 a pancake. However! my orange juice, just a glass of orange juice was $5.00! That is where I have an issue with, Should have stopped off at fry's and bought me a gallon of orange juice and bring it with me. Ordered for pick up... Hash with a Cinnamon Roll. Receipt had my name on it I did not even think to open boxes and check the order because when you pay 20 bucks for a breakfast you kind of expect them to do the simple thing of getting your order right which wasn't a complicated order. Got home and opened up my breakfast hoping to taste this amazing hash breakfast that I heard about but found out it was a bunch of pancakes. Moving to a new area always brings challenges of finding good places to eat. We've tried some really terrible breakfast places. Today we decided to try Biscuits Cafe on Bell Rd in Surprise. FINALLY a great breakfast. The choices were varied and the plates huge. The staff are very friendly. They all have smiles and greet you. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The restroom had b.m. smeared all over the toilet and needed cleaned. I reported it and was told someone would look into it. Which I appreciate that they corrected the issue The price of the food is a little expensive for what you get. The coffee is good and very hot! So that was nice! Both plates came out with lukewarm to cold food. It was if the kitchen staff got used to serving to go food and did not worry about the food coming out at a proper temperature. One thing I'll remember about Biscuits Cafe is...well... THEIR BISCUITS AND RASPBERRY JAM. We were sat instantly and were greeted by a friendly waitress. Once we ordered almost ten minutes later our food came out. Very quick service, which we loved since we were starving! I was in the mood for some pancakes so I ordered 3 pancakes,eggs and sausage links for around 10 dollars. Next time I come I won't get the pancakes because for me they tasted almost identical to McDonald's hot cakes. This morning we decided to have breakfast here. The service was very good and the wait time reasonable. The food was not good today. Our thin slice of grilled ham was over cooked and dry. The scrambled eggs were also over cooked and tasted like rubber. No issues with the hash browns but the red potatoes over cooked. My wife is usually the last person to complain and normally says it's just one meal. Overall this day the kitchen gets a C- for their lack of concern about the quality and their inability to cook. Someone needs to supervise the cooks and not allow over cooked food to leave the kitchen. Our bill was over $38 for the two us for breakfast. The good: Party of 3 ordered a BLTA, Berry Pancakes and a Breakfast Burrito sans tortilla. BLT was loaded with crisp bacon and fresh crisp tomato and lettuce. Bread was perfectly toasted. Breakfast 'burrito' ordered with chorizo and was excellent. Mildly spiced and cooked perfectly. The pancakes were huge, fluffy and delicious! The not so good, and the reason they didn't get 5 stars. They forgot the berries on the pancakes, which was ok. The problem was when I asked a server/expeditor if the berries come separately or were they supposed to come on top, he was extremely rude. He said, 'We'll, how do you want it?' I said separately is good. Without a response he turned and walked away. The question itself wasn't bad it was the delivery. His bad attitude and his facial expression showed his irritation. When he did deliver them he just slide them on the table and walked away. Now I don't expect my butt to be kissed but the crappy attitude wasn't necessary. FYI our actual server was very nice and thorough. This place has become our new go-to! We often come to AZ to visit family, and the morning we leave we ALWAYS have Biscuits! The wait is sometime long, due to popularity, but we manage our time accordingly. The service is wonderful. We always go with a LARGE group when we do go and they are always very accommodating. We recently went in, since COVID guidelines have been implemented. The service was not any less. They were just as great as before and we were seated within a safe distance from others. This is hard to write because I've had such good food and service at the other Biscuits Cafe's all over the valley EXCEPT for this one. I have gone here three times and all three times the service either being seated or from the server has been horrible. It's like there is no manager here. I was finally greeted to be seated by a male server yesterday morning who addressed me as " hey man" Unfortunately it never got better. He finally took my order and brought out the worst breakfast I've ever had at a Biscuits Cafe. Sausage burned up eggs over hard not easy as orders and half the hash browns that you normally get. Not once did he check on me or even offer to refill my coffee. I had to finally flag him down just to pay by check to which he said "here ya go dude". I understand with Covid everyone is short staffed but I have received better service at McDonalds than I did here. Not once but all three times I have eaten here. They're dog friendly for the outdoor seating and service is normally super quick! Not from Surprise, but have gone here numerous times when in area for breakfast. I generally find the food better than most so I continued to go there. Service today and most every time has been very good. I know sometimes food can vary and as long as I get good service I can look past most things. However today I felt that whomever manages the business does not understand why people go out not at home to dine. One reason is atmosphere and comfort. Today we arrived and were promptly seated. We followed the host through the restaurant out to a patio on the east side of the building. The patio had glass roll up doors (which were closed) but upon entering you could definitely feel temperature change. Basically an outdoor patio enclosed! And on the EAST SIDE morning sun. I could definitely handle if they over crowded and busy, but they were not. We past empty tables in the ac room. I eventually went back to look and counted 8 empty tables, and a saw a couple I held the door open behind me were seat at nice comfortable table. Whole experience made me feel like less important and they were saving tables in the cooler area for regulars or something. I gave the waitress a higher than normal tip as I appreciated her. I shared with her I would not be back to this restaurant. Too many others nearby I can enjoy! She apologize and shared she felt it was warm in there as well. Or more later stating that she forgot it. We order our meals and when they came every meal was wrong. NONE of them were special orders. We did not change anything. We asked for creamer for our coffee which we never got. The waitress took $3.00 off the bill which was nice. But keep in mind, this place is pricey for a diner. Ive eaten here alone and with family groups and more times than not, their food is on point. Tried the cinnamon rolls 3 times now...I'm not personally a fan of them. A pick 3 for $8.99 appears to be a hearty amount of food but some will find it's too much food and outside their budget range. We had the chicken fried steak / eggs / hashbrowns / toast and the chicken-apple sausage / eggs / hashbrowns / pancakes. Food was hot and flavorful. A lot of food, the carb based items were a majority as would be expected (potatoes, bread and pancakes). Meat was good portion sized as well. Homemade freezer jam is delish and went well spread on the pancakes!! Sourdough didn't taste like sourdough. Server was friendly and attentive enough. -2 for dirty silverware.
