Biscuits Cafe is the first satisfying breakfast I've experienced; after 11 years in Portland. I still remember the keen and bitter disappointment I felt, when I first moved out here from the 4-corners (New Mexico) region... only to find that the Portland diner-breakfast scene was and still is most often notoriously underwhelming and bland (I mean as vanilla as missionary-style or that uptight old couple in American Gothic)! Yes, Portland is completely lacking in green chili, red-chili, breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, stacked enchiladas, affordable lox bagels, true-grit, chutzpah, character, imagination, backbone, etc... And if it isn't poverty and or silent resignation that draws the hangry, bedraggled, unwashed, rummy hipster masses to seedy places like Denny's... Portlanders are often forced to overcome a simmering undercurrent of cognitive dissonance, any time they elect for some pretentious hipster it-spot recommended by some friend of a friend who overheard some stranger who looked looked ironic and or cool. Ya'll know what I mean about brunch, with all the absurdly overpriced and overrated food-fads around here... at this point you may or may not smugly nod your woke bobble-head/s and wax poetic about the latest food cart or cafe that you so love and admire... but ask yourself; was that fresh sprig of radish sprout, delicately perched over a suspiciously off-yellow blob of imitation sassafras-speckled crème fraîche on a multi-grain organic-cracker really that satisfying? Was it worth $20?!? I've personally never bought into any of the hype, and I've generally always been disappointed. Biscuits and Gravy is not a gourmet-art-form people! It's a basic human-right, and it's usually best when it's made by a greasy uncle, or an overweight, working-class grandma. Usually. That being said, Biscuits Cafe was packed with a diverse cadre of surprisingly normal-looking eaters, in a no-nonsense setting, where I could clearly see all the efficient grill-cooks on the back wall, doing their best to turn-em and burn-em... it was only 5-10 minutes after our or order that we got our food. This is classic All-American fair! The breakfasts here, serve up enough hot-off the grill, greasy-spoon goodness, that I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day. I actually boxed some of my leftovers, because I couldn't finish (which is rare for me). We ordered the smoked brisket benedict w/ hash brown and a biscuits and gravy plate w/ bacon and eggs. We expected the biscuits to be better honestly given the name of the restaurant so we were left feeling underwhelmed. The brisket benedict had some good flavors but it's not blow your socks off amazing like some other benedicts we've had. The kitchen pumped out the food so the wait for breakfast wasn't long at all. Both times we've ordered food from the Biscuits Cafe the food was fresh and well seasoned. A place for quality breakfast food and decent portion sizes . Your not going to finish your meal still hungry. The two draw backs I've found so far is they tend to be stingy on sauces and ordering the Belgium waffle À la carte is not worth the 10$ cost . If you still want the waffle order it as the entrée to get the most out of your money with the sides . Decided to try this place out on a Sunday morning around 10am. The wait was not too bad for 2 of us. It was very busy though, but a lot of people left at once. Seems like the earlier you go the more crowded it will be. We got seated and the gentleman that seated us was very nice. Asked us if we wanted any drinks and brought us water. Waited for what felt like almost 10 min until our actual waiter came by. Once we placed our order though the food came out fairly quickly. Food was good overall. My only complaint would be the temperature of the food was a little cold for our liking. That combined with the waiter not checking on us once and us having to ask for more water & coffee made me knock off 2 stars. Would we come back? Sure. We'd give it another try. Not in the habit of giving bad reviews, but my experiences at Biscuits have been equally as bad and I thought I should let potential patrons know what they will be getting themselves into. The coffee is bland and flavorless and the ingredients seem to be of the lowest quality. If you are looking for a dive diner breakfast experience this is your place. However, with such poor quality their prices are outrageous. The gas station quality coffee was $3 and I couldn't find a plate under $11 on the menu. When all is said and done this would be a $20 meal for the average person..... You could find much better quality, most likely for cheaper, within a few miles. read more

Used to be my favorite breakfast spot but the customer service I've gotten in terms of handling my situation has been so disappointing. I made a mistake on our rewards phone number and asked if the person ringing me up could still change it after already making the transaction. She said yes, took down the right phone number, and swiped my card again. I noted that she swiped my card twice but assumed she cancelled the first one somehow. A week goes by and I didn't get any refunds or cancellations on the first transaction so I called to ask what they could do about it. A guy picked up and said I could come in and they'll give me a refund. When I came in person about two days later, the lady said she'll jot down my information (name and phone number) and they'll call me back to handle the situation. About two weeks go by and still no phone call so I called again and asked and they said the same thing, jotted down the same information. Two more weeks ago by and still nothing. I pretty much paid twice as much as I was supposed to all because I was trying to take advantage of their rewards program and the restaurant hasn't done anything to get my money back. I thought they had good programs and good service, but I might be wrong. Every call and the times I went in to talk about the matter seemed like they were just giving me quick replies and pass me onto someone else who I feel like doesn't even exist at this point. They told me that if I don't get a call back I might have to contact my bank about it. I'm sad and frustrated. I thought I'd receive better service. read more

I'm always happy to try out new breakfast spots as I work the early shift at work, so when I heard there's a hidden biscuit spot nearby I jumped to try it out. Being the name of the place had biscuit in it's name, I went for it. Biscuit & Gravy with two eggs over medium and bacon. Now, the last place I ate a biscuit and gravy was Pine State Biscuits and if you've eaten there, you already know what God-tier expectations I had for this meal. To compare the two would be equivalent to comparing Costco steaks to freakin' Gordon Ramsay. The biscuit was dry and the gravy may have come from a can. The eggs were runny and the bacon was very dull. It didn't help that among the 30+ seats, they put me in the middle of two tables with kids. First time here for my wife and I. We loved it. The food was amazing. I had the chorizo omelette and my wife had the steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and the chorizo was very good.
