    Horchata and a Flat White
    Cathy S.

This is a lovely addition to the downtown Hillsboro food scene! I came here for brunch with a friend on a Thursday morning. It was a little dark inside but it was beautifully decorated with velvet and deep green colors. It gave very cozy vibes like you are hanging out in your own living room with lots of house plants. There were already 2 tables occupied when we got there of people doing work meeting so we waited a little bit to order since there was only one person working. You order at the counter and they also have a rewards program with Toast FYI (great birthday reward!) Service was friendly and welcoming. I got a flat white and my friend got a horchata. My flat white came in a gorgeous cup and saucer and beautiful latte art on top. It was rich and went perfectly with my breakfast. My friend also enjoyed her horchata with the perfect amount of sweetness. My friend throughly enjoyed her vibrant Power Morning Plate (so filling!) My chilaquiles plate had plenty of yummy cheese and a creamy avocado. The sauce was flavorful but I would have liked more tortilla chips or a lot less sauce. It felt almost like a soup so it made everything very soggy. Overall I would love to come back and just hang out and catch up with friends and try more things on their menu. The plates were as delicious as they look and please come support this new local business! I wish them lots of success!

Solid breakfast/lunch spot! I'd describe it as more of a cafe feel with great food like Sparrow Bakery in Portland. I ordered the Goldilocks with an espresso (better than Insomnia) and both were very enjoyable! You don't have to bus your own table and the kind owner brought everything over. Super attentive and friendly service. Highly recommend trying it out!

Great flat white, added the homemade vanilla syrup. Wish them all the best, and if I hadn't just eaten, would totally have enjoyed this place more fully. Day 3 of a new business. It's always interesting to discover something right when it opens. The specials sounded good, too.

Hillsboro, I need you all to go check out my new favorite cafe and brunch spot: Chicatanas! Everything is scratch-made, sourced locally, and incredibly well-curated. They have art from local makers for sale, espresso drinks, brunch, and 3x weekly dinner menus. Tonight is wagyu! The owner Robert is an immigrant, a talented chef, and a lovely human. I highly encourage you to give this new spot your time and money.

Absolutely amazing food! This is high end food that doesn't exist anywhere on the Westside.

Fabulous cafe! Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. A must visit, again and again. Chef and owner Robert Rubio has a good thing going here.

I got an avocado toast with sour dough, it tasted fresh and delicious. The service was welcoming as well as the ambiance.

This café is SUPERB! They have amazing service, high quality food, transparent kitchen meaning the customers can watch while the food is being prepared as well as a very relaxed environment with lovely music. There is a public parking structure around the corner. You will LOVE this place.

Mainly due to one INCREDIBLY rude employee, who i am going to assume is the manager, or something close, considering she was the only one in plain clothes, and not in a uniform or server outfit. This woman was an absolute walking nightmare. First off, we came in around 1pm. Mind you, this location closes at 3pm. So immediately, after we walked in, we stood there for a good minute or so before one of the FIVE employees, including nightmare manager lady, who were standing on, in or around the front counter ask "table for two?".. as the manager slowly grabbed our menus to hand to the server, i immediately noticed she had an attitude. Almost like she was annoyed we were coming to eat.. I shook it off, we sat down. We had our small dog in a stroller, so we had asked to eat outside. The outside area was busy. It is a sunny 70+ degree day so we asked for as much shade as we could get. The server pointed us towards a table with one half completely in the sun. We pointed to the 3-4 tables behind us that were in full shade. The server said they just closed that section. Umm ok, but, not the severs fault that the available tables were in the sun.. so, ok, no problem. We sat down. It took our server a while to get to us, but she was hustling and doing very her best. When she got to us she was gracious and very friendly. She was also very accommodating when we ask for our meal to be split to share. I wish i had gotten her name because she was the only nice part of our experience today and she was a lovely young lady. So, as we waited for our food, my mother was getting uncomfortable in the direct sun. I offered to switch seats, but she just tried to move her chair more to the side, towards the inner isle. Nightmare manager whips out of the door and VERY rudely, and loudly, barks at my 74yr old mother "mam, that's just not going to work! It's too narrow in here!" Everyone looked at us as she yelled this at my mother. At this point, most of the tables outside were emptying. So i said "could we maybe switch tables? She's just very uncomfortable in the sun." this nightmare of a human throws her hand up at us, like IN OUR FACES, and in a very annoyed voice says "you gotta give me a minute " and darts past us. We were floored. My mom and I look at each other like "huh?!?" There is now very few people left in the entire restaurant, inside or out. So it was pretty clear it was less about being busy and more that she was simply in "i want to close up and go home" mode. But hey, food service can be stressful, i get that. What i don't get is yelling at customers like they're your five year old. At this point the servers are wiping down the tables and stacking chairs. Mind you, it's only been roughly 20 min. So it's about 1:30pm.. again, they close at 3pm. But they were all clearly in shut down mode.. So when nightmare manager lady doesn't come back, we asked another server if we could move. She looks around at the empty tables, that are now 100% in the shade, and is like "ummmmmmmm, sure?" I said "great!" Got up and move to the shadiest table. Then nightmare manager whips outside again, and, as we are picking up our our silverware and water cups, this woman shoves next to my mom, who fumbling with her water glass, purse and silverware, and begins wiping the table down before we even retrieved our things. She says nothing to us. Her body language was aggressive and she was obviously very annoyed. Annnnnd that's when I called it. We hadn't even received our food. We got up and left, while I chipped "you can tell them to just throw our food away. You've been incredibly rude and we're done" and we left. This woman ruined a lovely Sunday afternoon i was spending with my mother. She was annoyed and rude the second we interacted with her. She may be stressed out, but to treat customers with such obvious distain, is unacceptable. This woman clearly can't handle the pressure.. so i HIGHLY recommend they get her out of the kitchen, LITERALLY! To this nightmare woman, i am so sorry we annoyed you with our business today. Don't worry, we will not be back..

We came here for the breakfast because I wanted something Japanese breakfast style. Since the hotel atmosphere is surrounded with Japanese like culture environment and etc! It is enough to fill your stomach right at the boarder line of not too full nor hungry! Everything was delicious in my opinion and the price is fair too! I have no complaints. Great service as well. Very attentive! I saw a comment regarding about miso soup? Lol... 90% in American miso soup are kind of instant or with a paste. And tofu are dehydrated or fresh. And yet, should stir the soup so it won't be powdery looking... Ppl can be disappointed over miso soup lmao.

There is a koi pond while you wait to be seated and the Japanese garden area is serene. It was our first visit and we were informed the wait would be quite some time, however, expected everything to be great after waiting so long. Plating was incorrect. And Missing honey/maple w yogurt. The kare was surprisingly salty. We felt ignored afterwards. No one checked on us how everything tasted, and I had to constantly flag the blonde waitress down. But the hotel ambience is 10/10. It does feel like I have stepped back in Japan, and would love to take my whole family here one day, perhaps for dinner experience--maybe down the road when the operation has been refined..

Inside is clean, bright but impersonal and generic. Maybe they just haven't had the time to put their stamp on it yet. The upsides - there is table service now and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I've ordered their Country Fried Steak with scrambled eggs multiple times now. Still a very good steak and sausage gravy. Either the steak breading of the sausage gravy was maybe a touch more salty than usual. The eggs were disappointing- scrambled eggs should be fluffy due to constantly stirring over low heat in a pan - and previously they always had been. This time they were a overcooked dense, dry puck, It was as if the egg mixture was poured out on the flattop, left and flipped once. Still eatable with hot sauce. Over all - they did hit a ball, but definitely no home run. It's unlikely that I'll be back.
