We got quotes from several companies, whom badmouthed Birch Circle Movers (always a red flag when someone badmouths their competition). Birch Circle guys are fast, efficient and well-priced! The not-to-exceed bid came in about 30% lower than the competition, offering the exact same service and number of guys. The owner, Paul, is a laid back yet professional in his field who knows his stuff and is easy to work with! FYI, I did all the packing of the fragiles such as kitchen ware, so don't know how good the guys are in that department. But they arrived motivated and energetic at 9 am, wrapped all the TVs and furniture of our 3 bedroom condo, and we were out of there and moved into our new space by 3 pm. My only small notice was they sometimes moved a little too fast, occasionally scratching the new walls with the furniture. We did have to ask them to slow down and take notice. But that was minor in the overall picture of the great job they did. Highly recommend these guys! read more

This is the place to go if you are penny wise rather than pound foolish -- the hourly rate that Birch Circle quoted twice as high as the "el cheapo" undocumented movers I've hired in the past, but they got the job done 3 times as fast so I ended up paying LESS in the long run and didn't get stressed out. It was my easiest move ever -- and I have a LOT of boxes and heavy furnishings, and I also have a big flight of stairs we needed to climb up in the new house. They treated my furnishings with respect and care, and asked me if I wanted them to take more time to wrap specific items in blankets and plastic wrap. I appreciate the fact that they asked first--because I was budget conscious and it was a time sensitive move. I feel that these movers respected not only my posessions but my time and the fact that I had to hustle the move along quickly because I was on a budget. I called Paul at the last minute based on the recommendation of a friend, but he managed to squeeze me in to his schedule, no problem. He loaned me recycled boxes and recycled paper for my packing (they recycle everything which is great) and gave me a clearly written contract up front--no confusing fine print. Oh, and he speaks clear ENGLISH and had a lead for the crew who also spoke English fluently too. (In the past I've struggled to communicate with movers who just couldn't understand what I was asking for.) Just make sure you are packed, well organized and ready when your movers arrive. That's the most important factor when you're paying by the hour. His crew brought their own water and snacks in a cooler, so they weren't mooching off my fridge either! This was my easiest move ever. Dare I say it was almost even fun. They showed up on time, worked their $%^& off and never slacked off for a moment. Here's the bottom line. I had a big move. 3 trucks. 6 guys. Marin to East Bay. Paul, the owner, estimated the job a couple weeks before the move and with only part of my household/office packed-up. The end result was pretty spot-on. The move took the amount of time estimated and his guys worked very hard, fast, with a lot of care, and with a lot of humor. They like what they do and are good at it. I found Paul through Yelp. I checked out Craigslist - which has a handful of well sounding mover's ads - but you can not verify anything and there are a lot of horror stories out there (movers & contractors - what's with that?). Yelp, however, presented forty-plus 5 star reviews of Paul's company. Consistent reviews. That's not impressive - that's amazing. Similar to what I read in other reviews - Paul really does put you at ease when you first speak with him. When we did our estimate/walk-through, I felt quite confident he would deliver and stand behind what he claims. To be honest - on the moving day, when the trucks pulled away loaded with my stuff I briefly thought - hmmm, I wonder if this is a well orchestrated con and they are going to just drive away and I will never see them again?? They were too "happy" and accommodating. I had so much stuff and it went too smooth. But... a couple hours later it was all unloaded in my new place. Paul said going in... "there are no hidden charges... no games. I am going to bring in a great group of people and they are going to do an excellent move." And that is precisely what happened. Great experience with BCM. We moved from one home to another in San Anselmo. They provided us 15-20 plastic bins a week before the move. This was super helpful as were able to "box" everything in advance. The crew was on time, friendly, hard-working, careful, and fast. We called Alton and he came over to provide a bid and got us on the calendar exactly when we needed to move. OK, these guys just rock? I heard about them from a friend and decided to give them a call very last minute, about three days notice. Not only did they accommodate the day, but also they squeezed me in at the time I needed. Now I don't know what people are complaining about with them being slow, maybe you need to prepare better. They moved my whole house in two and half hours. They even did things better than I would have expected in that time. They wrapped every piece of furniture I have in moving blankets and then cellophane wrapped that, supper protected. I lived in an upstairs apartment that wasn't easy to navigate and they still ripped through the job in that time, it was a big apartment with lot's of nice antique pieces of furniture. $250.00 to save my back, "Hell Yes"! As previously mentioned by other reviewers, if I could give them more stars, I would. From the e-mail communication to assess availability, time, effort and costs, Paul was on it. Engaged without being pushy, experienced without being obnoxious (to be honest, I was surprised they are based orin San Anselmo.....'cause they can have an attitude over there). So, we started an e-mail thread on Day 1, agreed to the move day/time on Day 3 and moved on Day 4 (I squeezed in early in the morning). The moving guys were GREAT....the Viking and Geo. Had a flight of stairs on both ends and they were quick and careful. And you ready for this? They charged me less than the agreed upon amount (and that's 'cause they kicked butt). What works, what doesn't, What I absolutely detest and now..what I absolutely love! I never thought moving could be an enjoyable, stress-free venture, but then we met Paul and his crew! The crew we originally found and booked from Craigslist called us two days before our move and told us they had to come at 3pm instead of our original 9am move..Que??! That's when I turned to Yelp and found Birch Circle Movers. Here are the top 3 things I love about these guys: 1. Personable: Paul and his assistant came over within an hour of us calling to personally take a look at our house and give us an estimate of which we were able to adjust to come to a fair agreement. He immediately made us feel comfortable with handling our move. All his guys were super polite and courteous while moving around us. They even smiled at my boyfriend's goofy jokes! 2. EFFICIENT: there's nothing worse than an inefficient move. They were there on time with 5 guys. Wrapping our furniture in blankets, taping it all up, handling it with such care. It made our stuff look way more valuable than it was! They took the time to ask me where I wanted everything in the house and placed it accordingly. 3. Calm: Paul just has this air of calm around him..nothing seemed to rile him or his super hardworking guys. Because I've been on two rafting trips with Birch Circle and knew that they also are a moving company, when I needed to move recently I wanted to give Paul a call to see if he could squeeze in my move. I didn't give him much notice, maybe about a week, but he made it happen. When I moved out of my old apartment into storage, I rented a truck and had a couple of friends help me. But when I needed to move from my 8x10 storage unit into my new apartment, the two flights of stairs at the new place convinced me that I should be kind to my friends and hire people instead. I spoke to Paul on the phone and through email, and he was always helpful and responsive. I had a somewhat complicated schedule of picking things up from two different storage facilities, and then moving all of it into my new apartment, and all three places are in different parts of San Francisco. The estimate I was given was low, but part of that is my fault for not explaining how ridiculous the system is where my things were in storage and underestimating how long it would take. Since Paul charges a flat rate that goes by the hour, this added up by the end of the day. The storage unit was on the third floor, and while there is an elevator, it took lots of trips up and down, punching in a security code every time, and we spent way more time there than any of us expected. Despite their late arrival (an errand in the morning took them longer than expected), the day was productive and went well once we got started. The three guys who moved me were all friendly and knew how to do the job well. Fragile things were blanket wrapped and everything was carried with care up stairs and around corners. This is a pre-move review of Birch Circle. We are moving from San Jose to San Rafael and I found Paul here via Yelp. I was going to use a moving company I used in SF before but was surprised to see their rating on Yelp and decided to start fresh. Birch Circle came right at the top so I called Paul, asked him a series of questions and not only did he answer them fully but he also let me email him a walk-thru video of our place so he could see exactly what we had and what was going. We ultimately selected a San Jose mover due to some timing/logistical issues around starting extra early in the morning but the reason I'm giving this a 5-star review is because of Paul's service quality. A) He answered the phone, B) he replied in a timely fashion to my three emails and C) he *proactively* followed up with me. These movers reminded me of the ompa loompas from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. They were so EFFICIENT. I unexpectedly had to move in TWO weeks due to my landlord's rental home getting foreclosed. I have a furnished 3 bedroom house, furnished garage and backyard. I packed as much as I could before moving day. Come moving day I had 5 movers and 2 trucks. They were so quick to wrap up the furniture and get it into the truck. I have never seen anything like that at all. Scott the head mover made sure that they set up my new home in the way I wanted once we got there. He even took the time to set up my garage the way I had it at home. This move only took TWO HOURS! Everything arrived in perfect condition, they were very nice and most helpful. We moved out of our house for a remodel. Birch Circle guys came in and blacketted and wrapped all of our belongings, took them to storage and returned everything 5 months later. Both experiences were terrific. They guys were fast, but careful. I chose Birch Circle Movers based on the Yelp reviews and I'm happy to add another positive one. The owner answered my initial phone call and promptly called me back to tell me that our requested move date was open. He set up a pre-inspection of our stuff two days later. Rikki was our move master. He called to tell me he was going to be five minutes late. When he arrived, he was personal, professional and intelligent. He sent me a quote one day later. On move day, Rikki arrived with a small army who packed our stuff in black bins and very few cardboard boxes. Everyone is smiley. Everyone is respectful. Here's the thing that knocked me out the most, though, they labeled everything with our actual names. Not 'closet,' but 'Heddy's closet.' It was a touch of sweetness that makes such a stressful endeavor bearable. Birch Circle holds themselves to very high standards. I was not present for the move of the furniture, but I didn't have to be. They used the utmost care and nothing was scratched or broken. At one point I went into the garage and one of the team captains asked me how I liked the way they set it up. They had put everything in the middle of the floor, but I didn't really see this as a problem, figuring I had to go through it all anyway. Before I could answer, the captain said, "nope, this isn't good enough. You can't get a car in here. Guys, we're gonna move everything to the sides, but make sure she can get to it." We also requested the unpacking service. I can't say that everything was set up as if we had never moved; it would be irrational to expect that. It was pretty close, though. Rikki knows his business. We recently moved from SF to SA. We have A LOT of stuff (4 bedrooms) and the house we moved into is pretty vertical, making it a challenging move. But, Birch Circle did it all! (4 guys, in about 7 hours including driving). They were all great, putting together a tricky bed frame, hoisting stuff up to the second floor, and conquering a steep driveway. Nothing broken/damaged. Even hooked up our washer instead of just putting it in its place. The estimate was 1 hour under the actual time, but I don't blame them at all since I have a knack for stuffing heaps of stuff out of sight. Oh, and ignore a previous reviewer who says they are not insured/licensed by the state. All you have to do is call the state to find out that they are a member of the California Moving and Storage Association. read more

The folks that packed our dinnerwear and sundry other items were great. Nothing was broken and this was a large household that had not moved in 16 years! One move the movers came to my second location after packing up my house and brought me contents of my wallet (including cash and a credit card) that I had lost under my bed months earlier!! We recently moved from San Anselmo to Napa, and thought we could do it ourselves. After about 13 trips in a little car, we gave up and realized Birch was around the corner. We always try to support local businesses. During our first stop in the office to meet them, they loaded up my car with boxes, stuffing paper and packing tape. They offered help in organizing, if we needed it, and came over personally to assess how long it would take, how many trucks, etc. They showed up a week later, right on time. Even though we had a ton of stuff, and even more in storage at a separate location, they had us packed, 2nd stop loaded, delivered and unloaded in 5 hours!! We were very happy about the care they took with every piece of furniture and box. They creatively filled every inch of space so as not to need extra trucks, yet worked swiftly to keep our hourly charges low. They were also a blast to hang out with, and we all hung out at the new house to have lunch together. If they hadn't had another job in a different county, we would have fired up the carefully packaged barbeque for them!!! We used a different moving company a few years back, who moved us from house to storage. We were charged a minimum though it took half the time paid. They broke an antique but didn't mention it, and complained about the heat the whole time. When my partner and I knew we were moving to the east bay from Marin, we started researching moving companies. Immediately, I appreciated that Birch Circle Movers (BCM) actually visits in person (in fact, Paul, the owner himself, came by) to give an estimate. Paul is very personable and professional and obviously knows the nuances of his business. The cost was very resonable, particularly considering the free boxes I received as a Yelper plus free box pickup after unpacking! The total cost/time was less than the estimate (always nice) and the three guys that helped us were very efficient (but we didn't feel rushed) and friendly. One of our team of movers, Dakon, was particularly skilled at packing the truck -- It was like putting together a puzzle! Although we had packed everything ourselves, I understand that they also provide packing services -- I would definitely trust them to be careful with your possessions. Everything arrived in one piece!! (I feel like this is almost never the case when moving.) Overall, a truly pleasant experience, and if(when) I have to move again, I will be calling BCM. read more

Paul and Krista were quick to respond when I needed to move with short notice. They showed up on time to look over my mass of boxes and give a written estimate, and were willing to do the move only 48 hours later. David and Ivan were my two-man moving team and I was very happy with the service. I was really impressed with the way they engineered all those boxes to fit into the truck without an inch of wasted space ("Tetris" indeed!). They carefully padded all of the large furniture and skillfully navigated it down some twisty stairs. As I was downsizing from a larger place to a smaller one, they were great about asking where I wanted items to go and even moving them again. Paul Mellion and his moving staff are fabulous, capable, cheerful, and just plan doggone good. They did a fabulous job moving us on a horrible day for a very fair price. We moved on December 30, the only rainy day in weeks and they took it in stride, being careful to protect everything and to keep our belongings dry. First, Paul carefully assessed our siutation, calculating how to arrange the van so as to be most efficient. Then they made sure furniture was wrapped and protected, boxes were closed and sealed, and fragile items were double and triple wrapped in bubble wrap and, if needed, shrink wrap. They took extra care with our artwork and mirrors. They organized the truck efficiently, using every square inch; same size boxes were stacked carefully so that they were secure. The load wes tied for extra safety. Somehow, they fit everything from our two-bedroom apartment AND storage locker into one truckload. At the other end, they unloaded quickly and efficiently, carefully stacking the items we were not going to unpack right away, In the past, we've hired Bekins in the Dublin area, Starving Students, an international moving company, and I will tell you that Birch Circle Movers is much, much more professional. (Example: a major moving company man set a guitar in a soft case on the ground, and then tried to unload a sofa while stepping over the guitar! A friend rescued the guitar with seconds to spare before a big boot landed on top of it.) Paul's men LOOKED before moving. And they have a sense of humor, which sure helped! read more

Birch Circle recently moved my family from South Lake Tahoe to the Bay Area. They did a fantastic job. I spoke with Bob initially and he quoted an accurate price. There were no surprises at the end. The moving team did amazing, 2 movers came and loaded all of our stuff in just about 2 hours. We did have everything packed and waiting for them in the garage to help save their time. Then once we arrived to our new home, 2 more men joined the team to help get it unloaded quickly. Paul was really great. I needed two movers really for just about an hour, and he was happy to accomodate on a Sunday. He waived the minimum moving time for me, and set two guys on call for an approximate time, since I would be driving up the 5 to Marin from Los Angeles. The price was a little more than I was used to for a pair of movers ($45/hour per mover), but I was okay with this fact since I was only asking for them for about an hour. Right on time, as we had set up, I called from the road, and they showed up at my door, just as I was moving things out of the way for them to start hauling some heavy stuff. I have to admit, they did a really great job overall. They had to carry some seriously awkward items (like boulders, heavy stone tables, and a cast iron grill) up stairs. My movers down in L.A. had dazzled me by carrying these heavier items individually, which definitely allowed for them to move fastser along, but Paul's boys handled everything with care, with a friendly attitude though they were lugging up some of the heaviest possible crap around. They moved a bit slowly, but they were moving up stairs, so I can understand. Overall, they got everything in just the way I wanted, smiled and chatted with me as I helped empty the truck, and got everything taken care of in about an hour and a half. Birch Circle Movers make a normally very stressful event as easy as it can possibly be! Here's my story... I needed to do a tricky (or at least I thought) move recently from West Marin to Oakland and had never used professional movers before and had no idea what to expect. A few friends have used Birch Circle movers and recommended them to me. I was really worried about a few things including a limited budget, and living down a very steep, unpaved road out in the woods, and how that was going to coincide with my move planned for a weekend that called for the biggest storm of the year! Once I talked to Paul, the owner, about everything I felt much more at ease. He was totally flexible on the days of the move and even said to call the day before and if it was raining really hard, he would be able to postpone the move, which is exactly what happened. We had several email and phone correspondences and Paul was always quick to respond to my questions (I had many!) very quickly. I should add here that Paul is a very friendly, easy-going guy, who sincerely wants to make sure the customer is happy. I was very worried because I had a limit I couldn't exceed $-wise, and he promised that even if he went over the estimate time frame, he wouldn't charge me any more and would stick to the quote. Well, the day of the move came and 4 movers showed up on time, all really pleasant and respectful of my belongings. They asked me many questions and took great care with my furniture and boxes. Moving tends to be a stressful time however Birch Circle movers made it so easy for us! They packed, unpacked everything and sorted the kitchen in the cabinets better than I would have done it! These guys were amazing, once again, amazing. They moved me around the corner about a year and a half ago and that was great as I had previously reported. Then I had to move again. UGH! Was not happy. I found a place a few miles up the road and they came and packed me in one day, moved me the next. Very mellow, quiet, kind, and considerate. Little did I know the new place was going to be UNINHABITABLE!!! After a week of tears I decided I had to get out of there and I moved again. Called Birch and they made it happen almost overnight. Best move I've ever had. Paul showed up ON TIME to do an estimate and it it was not for a pesky roll away desk that took longer then expected, it would have been exact. He even worked around my final 4 watching needs (GO NOVA!) so that I could be finished and in the city in time to watch my team. His crew was fast and professional. They wrapped everything and unloaded with out incident. They even offered to move boxes around once the truck was unloaded and I had paid the bill.
