Luis, Jesus and Sergio from Birch Circle Movers did an amazing job moving our retail store from Anchorage Square to Russian Hill today on a rainy day at stressful and busy street locations. I was particularly concerned about moving two very large and heavy custom built wall fixtures as well as an overbuilt cash wrap. They could have easily said it was not possible, but they never complained or displayed any signs of doubt. They got the wall units off the wall despite some stripped screws holding them down and quickly were able to disassemble them to fit through the doors. When the cash wrap wasn't fitting through the entrance, they removed the door to get it to fit. They were very professional, efficient and kind. We have been using Birch Circle for 10 years now for all of our moving needs. From bringing my grandmothers, China hutch to our home after she died, to moving back-and-forth between rentals and during a home renovation. They have been nothing but wonderful. Something special is that they use these reusable plastic boxes to pack all of your things and so there's not a lot of waste with the cardboard. When you are done unpacking, you simply pile up the plastic boxes and they come back and get them. It's amazing! They are friendly and kind and very responsive. I had a negative experience with Birch Circle when they packed up some of my belongings in May 2023 for a move. I see there are a number of positive reviews, and I'm glad other people had a positive experience but after thinking about it for a few months, decided to share my negative experience. I paid $300/hour for a crew of four to pack. Birch Circle added travel time for all four from San Rafael to Greenbrae (nearly an hour for the brief trip) and charged me for their lunch break time plus a few hundred dollars for use of their van to bring boxes over. To top it out, their crew was interested in some tools I had set aside for my handyman, and I said they could take a few. They took many of them, and that left a bad taste in my mouth because I asked them to take just a few. When I called to speak with the owner after several back and forth emails, he was unfriendly. I read positive things about him in other reviews--maybe he is a great guy and I did not present myself in the best way. Not sure, but I wouldn't hire them again. read more

Contacted Birch Circle Movers after reading reviews on Yelp, so glad I did. Due to the Covid-19 situation they were able to give me an estimate after doing a FaceTime video tour of our apartment. The movers showed up on time the day of the move and went straight at it, They also provided wardrobe boxes for us to load our clothes from the closet into. They busted butt and got the trucks loaded and headed to the new location. The guys were very fast, efficient, and professional. Got the job done in half the time that was estimated and they only charge for the time that was used. Final bill was much lower than original estimate. They did some packing of fragile objects and had to take apart and put back together a queen bed. It went very quickly and we were moved in much quicker than expected, with everything intact. They were very patient with my mom about placing the oriental rugs a couple of different times. All in all, a very positive experience. These guys came highly recommended - wish I would have listened sooner. I'm on my second move this year, because I moved and now I'm moving out for a remodel. Yup, that means I have a third move in the near future; but I'm not scared because I have learned from my mistakes - you can too! WHAT I DID WRONG (1) I got my girlfriends to come over and pack me, then had my brother and guyfriends do the heavy lifting. Since no one had the same schedule, I basically have been working on these moves for a few hours at a time every day - not cool. Very inefficient. (2) I rented a Uhaul - the $19.99 exponentially increased within seconds and I only moved 14 miles. (3) Second move, I used a corporate moving co that doesn't unpack - unpacking is the worst part for anyone working or studying 40-80 hours a week. Could you imagine 3-7 men coming into your home and packing everything up just to drop everything off on the nearest cleanest surface? NIGHTMARE! WHAT I DID RIGHT (1) I finally sat down (2) I picked up the phone (3) and called Birch Circle Moving for some professional help I called in the morning and was unpacked within a few hours. Starting with the quick response from Alton in the office (video/facetime estimates!!) and the fact that a November move turned into an immediate August move which was completed within one week, these guys ROCKED it. For a Saturday in June. ARGH. "Hi, don't judge me please. I'm moving pretty quickly and am hoping to get a quote." Bob's reply "Do you need us there tomorrow?" We hired Birch Circle movers for a local move. Everything from the initial phone call to the end of the move went fabulously smooth. The communication confirming the estimate and date of move was very detail oriented and seem less. The three men arrived just a few minutes later than expected, which was not a problem. The Lead DAvid, jumped out and introduced himself and asked me to show him around. David and Duke were extremely nice and communicated well. The three of them worked well together aNd were extremely efficient! The move was not easy as we had two sets of steep uneven stairs! David made sure I knew when they were goIng to taKe a break or lunch. Also, at the end of the move he made sure to explain the fees, hour break down, lunch time that we were not paying for, and the drive time. This was what I would call an epic move!! We got quotes from a few places, but ultimately went with Paul at Birch Circle, based in part on a recommendation from a coworker. We couldn't be happier with our choice, both to use movers generally and to use Birch Circle specifically. Given that we'd just bought said house, we were poverty stricken and destitute, but thankfully Birch Circle aren't your typical movers. Paul actually answered the phone, calmed me down (moving sucks) and dispatched two guys to our apartment to do the deed. Who promptly made me feel about as masculine as an Olsen twin, as they juggled couches and beds and dressers (oh my) with one-handed ease as I struggled with loading my car with a couple of boxes. They were fast but careful, they were courteous, our stuff didn't get so much as a scratch on it, and the price was great. WARNING: Should you use Paul's service, make sure you request NOT to have Will as your lead mover - RUN the other way. Will has a tendency to scream at the other movers (and you), complain about how many stairs he has to climb and breaks things. Oh, and if it's CAL Bears football season FIND ANOTHER MOVING COMPANY! Paul, the owner, kinda disappears and doesn't really work during this time. This was a direct quote from one of the movers. Paul's got a lot of 5 stars on here and maybe I was the one botched move, but TRUST me you don't want to play the percentages and be the other botched move. For the money, find another 5 star moving company on YELP. It was the WORST moving experience I've ever had. You shouldn't cry yourself to sleep while attempting to move, nor should you be bullied or harassed by the movers you are paying, nor should items that you have stated mean a lot to you be thrown into boxes (literally). Nor if you are paying close to $1700.00 for a move should you be schlepping boxes down to your new flat for the MOVERS. As an added bonus this was a referral from a friend of mine. Insult to injury, my friend met Paul in a NETWORKING group. I hired Birch Circle to move us within Mill Valley about 9 months ago, so this review is long overdue. They came highly recommended, so didn't have too many concerns with the details. Everything went fairly smoothly until the very end when they attempted to get a couch down the hallway. The couch was hitting the ceiling and they couldn't get it around the corner. After leaving many marks on the ceiling they went back out and decided to lift over the balcony. While they were doing this, the fire sprinkler went off, flooding the whole downstairs. This was the sprinkler right at the corner they had tried to get by...and the marks on the ceiling led right up to the sprinkler head. Immediately they denied that they hit it at all (it was pretty obvious with all of the black marks on ceiling (that was fresh paint. Because of this the water was coming down into the garage, which was full of our belongings. They did help move everything out of the garage, but that ended up costing me a couple extra hours of labor. In the end, this all resulted in 10k of damages. I know that the sprinkler heads were old, and likely needed replacing anyways....but the fact that they took zero responsibility, and I had to pay for the overtime really left a bad taste in my mouth. The owner of the company did respond to my email about all of this, but essentially reiterated that all of his employees said they were nowhere near hitting the sprinkler.
