Stopped by with my cousins for dessert after dinner - I'm a creature of habit and had a classic milk tea, while they ordered a strawberry shaved ice and a jasmine milk tea. I loved my drink - the milk and tea flavors were well balanced and the boba was chewy but not over done. There was ample seating on a Thursday evening, but the parking lot is pretty packed. read more

The shaved ice here is pretty great, the ice is infused with cream so they're like ice cream pellets. The size of the bowls are pretty small and $10 each but it was well worth it. read more

We had a group of 9 people went there yesterday around 9:30PM (we actually arrived before 9:30PM). After 10 minutes of waiting and a cashier came to tell us that they had too many orders ahead so they couldn't take ours. We were asked to wait for an extra "moment" and order later. The 9 of us then sat and waited at the table right in front of the cash counter for our turn. We tried to order 2 more times during this ridiculously long wait time, but failed. Funnily enough, after our orders were repeatedly rejected by the same cashier for the same reason, we observed the cashier lady generously took orders from some other customers who came in later than us and keyed them into her computer system. We questioned and complained the cashier for this. Then, what she did was simply hand wrote our orders on a piece of paper and told us they would make them soon. We paid and tipped right after. What happened then? We waited till 11PM, yes, somehow we were still patiently waiting for our orders. It was 90 minutes since we came in, so we decided to leave. When we approached to the cashier for our refund, she then gave us 4 drinks, part of our orders, and promised to make the rest soon. We were all tired and disappointed at that moment, so we refused to wait for any longer. She retorted "but I told you already that you have to wait for a moment". It's insane for annyone who defines 90 minutes waiting as "a moment", especially when it happens at a dessert place. The cashier refunded us the drinks we didn't receive..and we counted..the tips paid ahead for these refunded orders were missing! Classic! We argued with her for one last time and finally left with the right amount. None of us will come here again. read more

I've been here three times in the past few months and I can honestly say I've never left disappointed! I'm normally not the biggest fan of shaved ice but the bingsu here is very milky- it's in a whole other category of "shaved ice". I'd say the texture and taste is very similar to ice cream except it's lighter without compromising the flavour. I've gotten the green tea and the nut one and they're both amazing! The atmosphere is great. It's very cozy with comfortable seating. They've really done their best to make it "insta worthy" with a cherry blossom tree on one side of the restaurant and an aesthetic shrubbery wall on the other. read more

Bingsu has really become popular in the GTA lately! Last weekend we tried the earl grey bingsu and was not disappointed. The shaved ice was full of earl grey tea flavour and the mochi and syrup were a nice touch. I did find the croutons and mango at the bottom of the bowl a little out of place. But overall, this was decent and I wouldn't mind coming back for more read more

Such a cute place! Super Instagram worthy :D This place is known for its shaved ice desserts but my friends and I were really full and wanted something small and lighter. We went for this Honey-almond brick toast with 2 icecream scoops (black sesame and matcha). The toast was super good! Two stacks of thick toasts, sliced in cubes for us. The ice cream scoops were really small tho. Black sesame icecream was good! But the matcha didn't taste like matcha at all. It tasted like... One of the flavours of the Magnolia brand icecream that i can't remember haha... Anyway it was good as a whole ! Decent price. Like about $8 after tax. My friend's and i would definitely visit again to try the shaved ice desserts. read more

Nice little spot in an older plaza that serves bingsoo. According to my friend though, dear fro is not as Korean style as the neighbouring store snow time. Anywho, I've been here once and it was on a super hot summer day. They had a promotion earlier that day where a certain number of customers could try their new Earl grey shaved ice series. My friends and I though was not about to get into a 2 hour line in the crazy heat just for some shaved ice. My friends and I tried the Earl grey shaved ice, it was generally pretty decent, size is decent even if it doesn't look too big. I got super confused though with the bread that is inside the shaved ice... That being said, the quality is still there. read more

If you're in the area, you must try Dear Fro's bingsu! You won't find bingsu this good anywhere else in the Greater Toronto Area. The bingsu are served fluffy & light, like an untouched Canadian snow pile; not to mention filled with plenty of to-die-for creaminess. It's so amazing, it's a pity you can't get anything similar other than at Dear Fro in the city. Also, the place is small, cozy and nice - a perfect place to just relax and enjoy some bingsu. 5 stars for these reasons. read more

Came here for dessert. The place isn't too big so on the weekend it can get busy. Had the matcha shaved ice and I'm glad I was able to share it with my friend because it's way too milky for me. Also paying $11 bucks is not worth it for shaved ice and ice cream. I did enjoy the matcha jelly that came with it. read more

Not the best service from the counter staff, maybe it was a bad day for her. Expected some whipped potato on top of the creamy udon but it was actually just salted whipped cream. Dear & Fro hasn't exactly been a preferred destination of mine for bingsu/shaved ice. It's all right, though other places do it much better. On my most recent visit, I was only interested in getting a drink. I'm also not a fan of mousse/foam drinks but the Fresh Pineapple with Green Tea drink looked refreshing and I decided to order it. I don't know why I bother looking at pictures for some places, because what I got in the end was not the same. While the pictures did not indicate any foam as part of the drink, about a third of the cup was just foam. The foam and the cold green tea is just an odd combination that does not add any value. I actually got less for what was paid for ($6.95+tax) because of the thick foam. When I went back to ask about the drink, my concerns were dismissed pretty quickly as "foam from blending the drink." This did not turn out to be an honest answer as the foam didn't dissolve and just stayed there even after finishing the drink. The picture and description is extremely misleading; if pineapple and green tea is all that's served, why is there foam when the other items specifically mention the foam and show a layer of it in the picture? read more

I wasn't a fan of bingsu after trying it at Snow Time. But I decided to give it another try at this place and I've converted! I tried the Oreo Matcha and Oreo Cheesecake bingsus. The Oreo Matcha only had a scoop of matcha ice cream on top and there was no other matcha component. There were oreo cookie crumbs and mini oreos and even though there wasn't that much matcha it was yum. The Oreo Cheesecake bingsu had a piece of cheesecake and then half oreo crumbs and half some other type of crumb (tasted like ovaltine) with mochi and mini oreos. The actual cheesecake didn't taste good, it wasn't a traditional cheesecake and had a weird chewy texture, but all the flavours were otherwise great. The oreo cheesecake one was way bigger than the oreo matcha. It's definitely one that should be shared between two people. The shaved ice melts in your mouth and has a slight sweet flavour. Would recommend!!! Mmm read more

The trendy, social media-savvy interior (neon sign message, yo) here is quite up there, and you'd might mistake this place for being somewhere on Queen or King West if it wasn't for its strip mall setting in the Finch/Midland area. At least the bright pink neon sign and golden cash counter makes it easier to spot than that other bingsu place across the lot, and also has street frontage and plenty of seats. Dear and Fro could just be yet another Asian hangout cafe in the area, but specializes in bingsu desserts that I found does coarser ice shaving texture more akin to like Taiwanese style shaved ice. I feel like shaved ice in general is like a quiet food trend in the GTA. The flavour layering and presentation is high. I had a limited time offering of their earl gray bowl, with a lightly coloured ice and toast bits buried inside that was kinda fun. Definitely sharable amongst 2 people, it ain't no small bowl. They seem to have much more variety than that other place across the lot, but more pricey. Certainly a good chill out spot if fancy decor and colourful cold desserts is your thing. Food: Certain flavours of bingsu offered here are definitely one of the best ones out there (which is the strawberry and mango), but the portions are also smaller compared to other places. The drinks are very interesting and unique, if you want to go for the classic bubble tea drinks, this place will not be for you. The matcha blueberry waffle was the only waffle I tried, and it came out burnt. Again, the waffle is nothing like anything I've tried before, they added a blueberry syrup that was extremely sour to taste, I personally do not think it went well with the waffle. The blueberries used to top it, were not fresh, if you want fresh fruits with your waffles, this is definitely not the place as I found a blueberry with mould on it. Atmosphere: This is a very cozy place where many students study during the evening. There is a cool sign in the back for cute pictures. Service: The service provided here is absolutely horrible. Every single one of the workers here have no interest in providing good service to their customers, they do not care. The cashier gives attitude when a question is asked. Overall, with the service here, I wouldn't want to come here for the bingsu. It just kills the mood. read more

Got the Oreo cheesecake bingsu. There was no cheese in the "cheesecake", more accurately it was a mousse cake with an Oreo crumb base. Bingsu was mediocre, nothing outstanding. 3 stars. The place itself is fine. The interior is well-decorated, spacious, and kept adequately clean. Tried the Matcha Oreo Bingsu, which was a mess of oreo powder and shaved ice, which was what was expected. Not sure what to make of the tea with milk foam (they taste weird, but that may just be me), but the bingsu was okay. It looked cute, and it was a nice place to hang out. Not too crowded (weekday night), and pretty lights to make it a pleasant, warm atmosphere. Seriously not understanding what the deal is with the Asian lady who seems to be running the place. She's condescending and rude except when she's getting paid over the register (lit. quote "Give me the money"), slammed the take-out bag on the table while we were waiting. Yes, she may be in a rush and be having a hectic day, can't afford to be friendly amidst the pressure. Buddies and I were playing cards and she comes over saying that's not allowed. Okay, that's fair, we didn't know that. But alternating between Chinese and English with a patronizing "Oh you can't speak Chinese?" and glaring at us afterwards was uncalled for. Not expecting exemplary customer service but shouldn't take so much effort to not be an asshole prick. The place is nice, okay bingsu, but that doesn't make this place unique. There are plenty of dessert places that offer more and nicer bingsu. Even Snow Time is better than this. Also tried Matcha with "Cheese Jelly". Cheese Jelly tasted nasty imo. read more

I've only ever had the bingsu at this location, mainly go for the fruit based ones. They are really refreshing and honestly such a great dessert to share. For $10 a bingsu, you can comfortably share with two people or more depending on how hungry you are. The flavours are subtle but still really good, especially if you aren't into really sweet and overpowering desserts. I think this is the perfect date location, just because of the amazing interior decorations and designs, very insta worthy. Great atmosphere, great assortment, great food. read more

This is my favourite spot to try the delicious mango dessert. You can't go wrong coming here with friends or family to enjoy their delicious sweets. The sitting arrangement can be a bit tight due to space available, which is understandable. So, have a friend to hold a table and then proceed to order. Came here with excitement to try this new bingsu place in Scarborough because of the hype. Honestly, not worth the hype at all. Ambience of the place is cute and cozy. Love their marble finish table top and the decorations. Staff is friendly and welcoming. You have to place your order with the cashier and then find your own seat. Ordered the Injeolmi bingsu because I loved it at CUPS. I was very disappointed with the flavouring of this one compared to cups because of the lack of condensed milk and flavour in general. However, I do like the fact that you can really taste the milk in the bingsu. I felt like they should of layered their toppings to distribute the flavour evenly through every bite. The bowl is an awkward size as it is quite big for a single person but too small to share ($8.55 one size only). Didn't have to wait to get seated but had to wait over 20 minutes to get our bingsu. The place became busier closer to 9:30pm. Overall, it was just mediocre. read more

Nice little spot, good prices and pretty good desserts. I heard about it from a friend so I checked it out, this was my first Bingsu so I don't have a frame of reference but it was pretty good. I went on a Thursday night with my girlfriend and our 3 year old and it wasn't really busy at around 8pm. We got a seat right away (although it's a seat-yourself type deal). I got the Macha bingsu ($10) with a side of honey toast ($6). The bingsu tasted good, like a standard green tea iced cream but with a neat consistency. The honey toast was solid; a little crunchy but soft in the middle with a little bit of honey drizzled over. It's kinda dry on its own but paired with the iced cream that comes with it it's pretty good. I found that the portions are pretty generous, maybe because we came straight from dinner so we weren't all that hungry. Myself, my girlfriend, and our 3 year old split the large bingsu and honey toast and it was more than enough. All for under $20 with tip. It wasn't super special or anything but for $20 I'm not complaining, I got exactly what I wanted. I'd definitely recommend and I'll be coming back for a quick dessert for a good price. read more

Not a fan of the desserts. It was very watery and sugary. But in general I don't like Bingsu. Flavoured ice doesn't appeal to me.

My girlfriend found this place on instagram so we decided to give it a try. First thing I noticed when I got in is the place is super aesthetic. It's filled with unorthodox furniture and decor which gave the restaurant a hipster cafe kind of feel. We ordered a Matcha Bingsu ( ~$10) which was smaller than I expected but it did taste good. We also got some sort of baked honey toast (~$5) which took a long time to come but was a good pairing to the Bingsu. Overall, come here for instagram bangers and a good but small treat. read more
