This might be the first time I brought my car into a shop and the check engine light came on afterwards. I had gone to a different dealer and they did a full inspection of my car after aligning and balancing my wheels and an oil change. The ONLY issue they found was that might right wheel bearing needed to be replaced as the back of the car was making a louder sound. I went into Billy's a week later (because they were cheaper) to get the right wheel bearing replaced and after I got the car back, the car was louder than ever. All of the sudden my left wheel bearing supposedly had an issue as well despite another dealer saying it was in great condition. Two days after leaving the shop, my check engine light has been on and despite a few calls to the dealer, no logical explanation has been explained and overall service was awful. I guess you get what you pay for here - strongly recommend going anywhere else, even if more expensive. read more

This has to be the most corrupt, deceitful mechanic shop to have ever exist. Since the end of August, My 2014 Ford Focus has been spewing out thick white smoke for two weeks straight. My boyfriend and his mother kept pushing me to drop my car off there to have a look at. I was wary as it being a very small shop with practically no review online, but with both of them telling me they have gone here for 15+ years and this shop knows what they are doing, I took their word for it and dropped my car off the first week of September, The worst mistake in this entire world. A week and half later and a $900 bill from the repair shop, Absolutely no cure for the smoke. All was done was a oil change and a treatment was added to the oil for the smoke. We were told the car will forever be like this. OBVIOUSLY, There is something wrong with the car. After some googling online. I opened my hood, pulled out the ignition coil AND DRENCHED WITH MOTOR OIL. The valve cover gasket needs to be replaced. So because I'm afraid of my car being further destroyed by this horrific shop. I am now forced to either spend 1,000+ at a certified dealership OR repair it myself, a beginners in mechanic. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE. RUN AWAY. read more

Shout out to Billy's Automotive in Brewster, NY! Just want to say what an amazing job they have done with the repairs on my vehicles this week. I feel like I was taken care of by a protective big brother! As a woman bringing vehicles into a shop, I feel that all the mechanics see, as I walk in the door, are dollar signs. This shop never made me feel this way! They did the most amazing job of getting me my cars back in a speedy manor and only doing the repairs that were necessary. I'm joining Yelp specifically to write this review. This family business is fantastic. Although they already had a full garage and had never met me before, they took pity on me and squeezed in my emergency out-of-state repair three days before Christmas. Then, when I further made a nuisance of myself by demanding a 8-hour turn-around (despite their not having the part and not being able to get a new one delivered until the next day), Billy's guys called around to several local junkyards, then drove to pick up the part for me and tested to make sure it was in good condition. They finished the repair very quickly after hours (having only located and picked up the part shortly before I arrived unannounced), and after a quick lesson on exactly what broke and how the necessary piece worked, I was entertained by an entire warm and welcoming family (all of whom seem to help out at the shop) while they finished up. When it came time to pay, the price was substantially below the already-low price Billy quoted me before he went to all the extra effort on my behalf; it turns out that after all that, he didn't charge me for labor. Then, after I'd paid, one of his mechanics mentioned my antifreeze was low and offered to fill it for $17. When they realized I had already checked out, they gave it to me on the house. I live 45 minutes away, but I intend to go back to Billy's every time I need repairs. The car is running beautifully. Billy's garage has been in business for 25 years, and I can see why. This auto shop is the best I have ever been to in my life. I showed up with a tire about to fall off. They gave me a good price, dropped us off to get lunch while they fixed it, took care of my dog while we were gone, picked us up again and helped my grandmother walk through the doorway and get in and out of the vehicles. AAA towed my car here on a Weds afternoon when my timing belt broke. 1st impression was that they were nice, and busy so must be a good shop. NOT!!! On Thursday I called shop to see what was up w/ car and was told that the timing belt broke and that valves & pistons were "Screwed" and the engine needed to be replaced to the tune of $4300.00 incl labor. I brought car back to Long island to my mechanic who VERY promptly Re-timed engine and replaced a couple of tensioner pulleys and a couple of other misc items to the tune of $1300.00 Don't think anyone ever really looked at the engine. read more

I had a problem on the highway in the middle of a 5 hour drive from my parents' to my home in early May - abuot a week ago. I had not been able to avoid driving over a large pillow in the highway under an overpass. It caught under my car and started to burn. Pulled off at a Rest Stop, called AAA and they sent Manny from Billy's with a tow truck. Manny was able to jack up the car, pull off the pillow remains, and then checked to make sure everything was OK. He was very kind and reassuring while I was fretting at not being able to get home (another 150 miles) that day. I would recommend Billy's to anyone! Professional service with kindness. My car was left on their lot over the weekend and I got billed $50 for it. Emergency situation. My car was towed there on Friday night by AAA and later picked up by my trusted mechanic on Monday morning. I called on Saturday to let them know that the car would be picked on Monday and not to spend any time on diagnostics. I find out later that they passed on a charge (to my mechanic) of $47 for 1/2 hour diagnostics. When I called to question the bill, the manager said they were told to look at it. You know where this is going, right? He also added that I was fortunate that he did not charge me a storage rate of $65 per day and that he could have charged me $130 for two days. $65 per day?!?! Heck, I can park the car in a midtown Manhattan parking garage for $30 per day. This place is in Brewster!! I checked reviews of this place online before I called my mechanic to pick it up and saw lots of poor ratings. You can add this one to that one star pile. read more

The couple of negative reviews I see here are odd and not in line with my experience. I've gone to the nearby Honda dealer for inspections and been told I needed new engine mounts ($800) and then took to Billy's where they explained the wear and told me it was normal - my car lasted another 80k miles before other issues caused its end at 210k miles - no new engine mounts. They also sent me to that Honda dealer on an electronic issue that they thought the Honda dealer could cover because it had different diagnostic equipment and Billy's didn't want to charge for the equivalent of exploratory surgery that might not have a result. I've had plenty of similar experiences - essentially good diagnoses, actually sending me to what is a competitor to some extent when it was the right thing to do, and helping me keep the car running - at far less expense than another very good mechanic who is closer to my home. The negative comments here seem really odd because in similar situations I've experienced the opposite. read more
