After landing at MDW, I needed something hefty, and the Italian Beef seemed like it would fit the bill. Quantity wise, it was a big sandwich with lots of meat. However, it was a bit dry and needed the gravy or ketchup or something to make it edible. I think I'd be murdered if I put ketchup on it though. What about catsup? I never understood the difference. I don't have much to compare it to, but I will say Portillo's crushing the living F out of this place as far as Italian Beef goes. It seems the burgers are the way to go based on the reviews. It's the best bang for your buck at MDW! I've stopped here twice since it opened and both times, was pleasantly surprised by the speed, value, and quality. The staff are friendly and seem to take pride in the efficient operation they run. On the first layover, I waited in a short line and had the Curse Breaker burger and cheese fries. My items came up quickly, and I loved the diner-style fare. It's not fancy, it's a little messy, but it's not trying to be anything it's not! The second layover, I decided to try their Italian beef and fries and used the scan to order QR code because the line was longer and my layover was shorter. My initial quote for how long the order would take was 30 mins, which came after I completed the online purchase. I was a little disappointed because I only had an hour until boarding would begin for my connecting. But I assumed that was a very conservative guesstimate. Instead, I waited three minutes and got a text telling me my order was up! So fast! The Italian beef was pretty close to perfect. Just the right amount of dip and the sandwich held up well until the last bite. The regular crinkle fries were hot and crisp. MDW had pretty abysmal food options for a while. Since the terminal renovations, things have vastly improved. Billy Goat Tavern is a slam dunk for cheap eats that won't disappoint! read more

Meat was a little on the bland side but the flavor it did have was good. And no chewy pieces. Peppers were fresh and spicy. My biggest complaint would be that they didn't drain the peppers so it made the bun a soggy. I opted out of breakfast, even though it was six in the morning and instead I got a cheeseburger and fries. After they call your order, they let you add your own toppings before they wrap up your sandwich which was a nice touch. I had a layover in Chicago Midway with my next flight over in Concourse A. After checking out my options at the food hall in Concourse A, I got in line for Billy Goat Tavern. When it was my turn, I ordered a double cheeseburger. People ahead of me had to add their own condiments. However, when my burger was ready, I had to tell the employee what to add to my burger. I told him to put ketchup, mustard, pickles, and onions. I wasn't really paying attention, but when I started eating my burger, I noticed that he didn't put any onions. As far as airport options go, this one is not bad. The food is definitely on the more affordable side compared to other airport eateries. But did the food here make me want to visit any of their other locations? Not really... I ordered the double with cheese and a side of cheese fries. The burgers come plain and you can have add ons (cheese, bacon, jalapeños, egg, mushrooms (recommend!), and grilled onions for an additional fee and then dress your own burger at the counter with pickles, white onion, and sauces. I did like that the meat was cooked nicely. The bun was soft and fluffy but the meat to bun ratio was very off. I ended up ripping off and throwing away half the bun. The fries were ok. My fries were more warm than hot and were soggy, not crispy. The cheese came on the side (more than enough dip for all the fries!) and it helped me get through the fries. Burger is priced "ok" but with fries and a $4 bottle of tea I was still at $20. If they put some effort into it this could be a pretty decent place, but it felt just lazy. Even though there was a line present, it went extremely quickly thanks to the assembly line they have going on in the visible kitchen. The decor had pictures of Chicago all over the walls, and had their own brews on tap. I ordered a three-patty "Curse Breaker" and french fries. There is a toppings bar present too that they will add whatever you want to. The french fries were crispy and freshly made. They were lightly salted and enjoyable. I had to squirt my own ketchup out onto the bag to dip them in, which was fine. The patties on the burger are thin but flavorful. It felt like the triple was the equivalent of a regular super thick patty. The jalapeños and bacon were great, and the seeds in the jalapeños were present.
