We were visting from out of state and looking for some good bbq and we found it! This place is a hidde gem in a shopping center. Tim the manager sat us and gave us recommendations. Started off with home made root beer, delicious! We were then given a sample of fries to try out the different bbq sauces. My husband had the all you can eat fried chicken with mashed potatoes & cheesy corn bake. I had the pulled pork platter with bbq beans & twice baked potato salad. AMAZING! We were offered some fresh bread pudding from our waiter Devin but were busting at the seams & had to decline. We will definitely be back if we make it out to Lawrence, Kansas again! It's no wonder this place was voted best bbq in the area! read more

Biggs is the sort of place that BBQ fans find irresistible! The service is great, friendly, and usually features really nice kids from KU. The food is to die for, with the ribs and brisket at the very top of my personal list. For burnt ends I still prefer Jack Stack's, but "the ends" at Biggs are pretty tasty too. Family friendly with about 18 huge televisions showing all the important games from around the country. It's Rock 'n Roll themed, so be prepared for the music to sometimes make you a little nostalgic. You can handle it... read more

This is really a 3.5 star review, I just don't have the option to do that. Stopped in the morning for an early lunch with a midsize group, and we were the first people in the restaurant, we were immediately sat at a table and waited a bit for a waitress. When she did finally show up, she seemed pretty disinterested in us, and wasn't very attentive. I had a meat combo plate with brisket Mac and cheese and potato salad. Considering it was still early and we were the only people in the place, my Mac and cheese was cold, which seemed odd. It was still tasty though. The brisket was yummy and so was the potato salad. I would be willing to try this place again. read more

Bigg's is simply the best BBQ in Lawrence and my favorite restaurant. My favorites are the ribs, Italian sausage and sweet potato fries. Their regular fries and all the sauces are great, too. read more

This is our go to for bbq near us. You get a lot of food for the price and it is delicious. It usually isn't too busy and the staff has always been really nice. Their sauces are delicious and their meat is fabulous. read more

By far the best BBQ in Lawrence. Can be a little hit and miss, but most of the time it is outstanding. Their brisket sandwich is awesome and the fries that come with the meals are really good to. Definitely recommend going for any barbecue buff in the Lawrence area. read more

My friends and I decided to do a 'BBQ' taste off last year just for fun. I drove into kc and bought Fiorello's Jack Stack, Gates, and Oklahoma Joes. In Lawrence we tried Biggs, Vermont st, and Biemers. We bought a slab of ribs from each restaurant as well as a jar of BBQ sauce. We brown-bagged the entries and then voted on our favorites. Before I tell you what won let me stress that if you think you need to drive to KC to get good BBQ you are wrong. All three of the Lawrence eateries faired well. Vermont st BBQ, I hate to say, is out of business now. Fiorello's Jack Stack was the unanimous winner. The meat had a nice smokey flavor and the sauce was the group favorite. Although it was the unanimous winner it's not worth the drive into Kc. If you happen to be in the area I would say stop in, but Lawrence had very good barbecue and no more than ten minutes away. The favorite Lawrence eatery was Biggs. Meat was very good as well as the sauce. It was just slightly dry compared to Jack's Stack, but still quite good. Long story short.............lawrence can hang with the best BBQ kc has to offer. It was a very fun and informative tasting. I would suggest others do it as well. read more

This place was pretty good. Got some sweet potato fries and some fried chicken. Was what I wanted and it was good. Place was pretty lively so thats a plus from me. People were pretty friendly as well. read more

Loved the links and the burnt ends. The ribs that I had the St Louis were dry. Easily the best BBQ restaurant in Lawrence. A little difficult to find but worth finding if you want some serious Q in Lawrence. read more

Had the BBQ eggrolls, signature beef sandwich and some ribs. Everything is extremely tasty including their house-made root beer. The meat is cooked very well, if i were a 5 giving sort of person this place would get one! read more

Had the spare ribs, fries, and baked beans last night. It was great. The beans are good with big chunks of meat in them. They have great flavor. Their fries are great too. They are a softer fry which is my favorite for sopping up beans and bbq sauce. The ribs were pretty darn good too. There was so much food we had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The rib rub is mild and doesn't overpower the great meaty taste. The sauces are great. The sweet sauce is my favorite. read more

This one is tough - I wish I could give it a 3.5. It is not the best barbecue that I have had, nor is it the worst. First for service, we got there just as a KU game was ending. It must be a popular venue to watch KU games, because the joint had been packed. We were seated immediately (a group of 5 business associates). The server was very nice and there were no errors, noted especially because we needed separate checks. I did notice that the service was a little slow, though. Me, I like some time between having drinks served and the server hovering over me waiting for my order. I don't like going to dinner and feeling rushed. But others in my group did not care for that. A round of onion rings and jalapeno poppers was ordered. The onion rings were freshly made as were the jalapeno poppers. And the poppers used real jalapenos - really spicy unlike those frozen ones. Four out of five of us ordered either a 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs or a 1/2 rack of babyback ribs. In either case, the ribs were served naked, so that you could try whichever BBQ sauce that you desired, or all 3 of them. I ordered the St. Louis ribs. Those were cooked fairly well, but not quite fall off the bone. The quantity of meat on the ribs was sufficient. I had the spicy cole slaw and the cheesy corn bake as sides, both of which were good. It is important for me to walk out of a restaurant replete, not stuffed. And Bigg's BBQ did the trick. read more

I really wanted to like this place a lot. I smoke a lot of meats myself and eat BBQ whenever I travel the country. The owner and his son were out front giving free samples of pork and were as nice as could be. Restaurant next door was packed and the hostess was rude so I thought it was a no-brainer to give Bigg's a shot. We tried the pork, turkey, beans, coleslaw and fries. Smoked turkey and pork were average to above average. The baked beans were some of the best I've ever had...awesome. Coleslaw was good but very runny. The fries were not my favorite - too soft and very little flavor. I originally was going to give this place 3 stars but with how attentive and polite the owner, and staff, were I put it at 4. A lot of potential with very little BBQ selection in Lawrence. read more

I absolutely love this place! Atmosphere is great, staff is great, food is amazing! All the poor reviews are nuts. I basically go here whenever I'm in lawrence. I've only eaten at the one on Iowa. But i am positive 6th which is more burgers than bbq and the one on Mass are amazing. The number one thing you need to try is there chicken. You just look at it and it falls off the bone. The sides are all delicious. All of the food is A+++ just give it a try read more

This places has some really good BBQ. Nice bar and clean restaurant. A great place to watch a game, enjoy a beer and eat some great food.

The fries, service, and sandwiches, and wings are AMAZING. This is by far the best bbq in Lawrence and if you stop by get it! It is an awesome place that should be gone to more. I hope this helped this restaurants success. read more

Just had Bigg's BBQ catered in for lunch today. Oh man, the only thing I don't like about Bigg's is that I always end up stuffing myself beyond belief! It's always so delicious. I don't know of one thing on their menu that I don't love. Dangerous place to eat... Just dangerous. read more

Went out of the cozy confines of Mass Ave to have some good KC BBQ. Terrible! The brisket was dry, then burnt ends were barely burnt at all, the server was a 17 year old with zero personality, and all of us felt like garbage all night after eating here. Last time we ever come to Biggs! read more

Should be called Bugs BBQ. As we were finishing our meal a cock roach ran across the table. We called over manager and they quietly apologized, but didn't seem that surprised. I followed up with a call to the KS Dept of Agriculture and they inspected the restaurant and found live bug activity and gave Biggs 10 days to come into compliance. Check out the Dept of Agriculture website before you eat at Biggs. read more

This place is just down right t good We made a reservation for 12 and 12 happy people left there. Food was delicious as always. Pulled pork tacos were the bomb and service was fantastic read more

This is a good BBQ place. The ribs were good and the burnt ends were very delicious. I saw so many people eating fried chicken when I was there at the first time. I visited another and ordered 'Chicken fried chicken'. It was delicious but not as I expected. If somebody would like to try something special, let's try chocolate bacon. The presentation of the chocolate bacon is great. You need to see it by yourself. Yes, it is delicious but, well, it is very hard to go wrong with bacon (even with chocolate)! If I were in other cities, I would give them five stars easily. I am sorry that this restaurant is in the great barbeque kingdom. read more

It's ok. The fries are pretty good, but the burnt ends weren't. Needed a lot more char.

I recently had lunch here while staying at the nearby Best Western and the food was ok -not gross, but not particularly memorable and I doubt I'd eat there again. The waitress was nice and the food was edible, just nothing to rave about. I felt pretty sluggish and heavy after my meal so if you are trying to watch your waistline, this is probably not the place for you. If you are nearby and need a bbq fix, it might do the trick...just don't expect to be wowed. read more

We went there last night for supper. I had the homemade root beer and a slab of St. Louis-style ribs. The root beer was very good. It had a unique taste that beats anything in a can. The ribs were meaty and flavorful. Not quite drop-off-the-bone tender, but still very good. The menu has more than BBQ on it and my non-BBQ husband appreciates that. He had chicken fried steak that he thought was rather dried out. The service was excellent....attentive without hovering overhead. The food came out fairly quickly. read more

Absolutely delicious! Problem? All you can eat fried chicken and smoked fried chicken dinner was amazing, w/garlic mash and gravy as well as garlic spinach and garlic biscuit for $12 on Sunday. I had to argue to assure a mix of both fried and smoked fried. Even though we had an appetizer and a quart of beer first, ($$) i asked for my first extra plate of chicken dinner of both fried and smoked fried chicken with sides, i was given a (one) piece of fried breast on a snack tray. When i asked for dark smoked next i was served one smoked thigh on another snack tray. All was delicious, but i payed $12 for all you can eat chicken dinner! One dinner plate and one piece at a time from there on does NOT = all you can eat chicken dinner at all. It is just let us keep you from enjoying $12 worth! Amazing grub for a price, great music and service while waiting for Firestone to work on our car doesn't mean we'll be back again next time for an all you can eat dinner with limitations. B.S.!!!! read more

It's a good thing this was not our first visit. The Sunday night all you can eat chicken was beyond overcooked and dry. We could tell it was dry from two tables away, but decided to give it a shot anyway. Bad idea! How fried chicken became a special of this establishment is beyond me. They should remove it from their menu and or learn how to fry chicken. The chicken fried steak is a hot mess. I do not know what they used for the breading but they should just not. The green beans were also not desirable. We have had many good meals of barbecue ribs and or barbecue pork here, but had this been our first experience with Biggs, we would never come back. read more

There are several BBQ options in Lawrence, but this place is one of my favorites. They have daily specials that are an awesome deal. Two of the best items on the menu are burnt ends and the pork belly. The food is always hot and fresh. The also have a great red ale on tap which you can order a huge mug of. They always bring out some free fries as you order you food which are delicious. read more

Great place for lunch! 5 dollar burgers on Wednesday. My office uses them for working lunchs and are always happy with the food. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but the food is always good. My wife and I had our 1st fried pickles there! read more

I started going here when Boom Comics opened up. I just wish I'd discovered this Lawrence standby years ago. I always get the Signature sandwich, but I might have to try something else sometime. It's just that truly excellent pulled pork is not as easy to find as you might think. read more

First, I am from SC and NC, have family that owns a BBQ restaurant, and I know good BBQ when I taste it. We stumbled upon this restaurant amidst an area with numerous chain restaurant and bland choices. Pulling up, one may think that this may just be a regular BBQ joint, but, upon entering, it was a totally different story. After receiving a warm welcome from the staff members, the red carpet was rolled out at our table as one of the proprietors, Shawn, came over and personally explained the sauces, the choices of meats, the delicious grilled corn on the cob, and even the scrumptious wings. None of the items were to be missed!!! All was delicious. They even brought a vinegar based sauce they are developing from the kitchen and shared....and it tasted like I was home in the Carolinas. I can't remember the last time I felt like I was invited into someone's home for a BBQ while at a restaurant. For the wonderful meats (don't miss the ribs, grilled sausage, and pulled pork), warm hospitality, personal service, and overall great experience, don't miss this restaurant on Iowa St. It is worth the drive! Thank you for a great experience in Kansas....come to see us in NC/SC sometime! Best meal in Lawrence thus far! read more

Called in for a take out order and asked for the special "catfish poboy sandwich." After accepting the order, they called back five minutes later and said the sandwich was not available for carry-out or delivery. Apparently the kitchen manager disagreed with the employee who took the order. The ad in the LJWorld did not state this limitation. Would not recommend. read more

The staff was really nice. We ordered the St. Louis ribs and fries. The ribs were dry and came with no sauce. They almost seemed like they were boiled either way you had to work hard to get the meat off the bone. The sauce was good not great and the fries were ok nothing special. So while it was not a horrible dinner I will not be going back. read more

We are frequents at Biggs and really enjoy their atmosphere and their food. Unfortunately, last time we went we did not have the best experience. Our server was really nice and even funny but I am not sure he really knew what he was doing. Granted we were there when it was busy during a KU Game but we saw people who showed up after us get their food before us. We ordered two sandwiches and it took over 45 minutes. My wife ordered a salad, which could have been made in just a few minutes but that came out just as late as well. Normally I would let this situation go but everyone was not waiting that long for our food, just us. We also asked our server for a box at the end of our meal to take home leftovers and had to remind him multiple times. We were never offered anything but at the end of the day we are still fans. We will be back but shame on them for a bad experience for a simple order of sandwiches. read more

I ordered dinner to go from here and was beyond disappointed. The salad was all old lettuce, with red ends and not crunchy. The chicken tenders were not crispy and was a very small portion. For as expensive as my dinner was, it wasn't worth one penny. read more

Great food! Especially the Spicy Chicken salad and the chicken tenders. My only (BIG) complaint is the time it takes for them to deliver. I've had delivery 3 times and it has never taken less than 1 hour 15 minutes. I understand a busy restaurant but when I'm ordering a salad I don't expect it to take that long. read more

After Vermont Street BBQ closed on Mass St, I've yet to go to a different BBQ place in Lawrence. Best BBQ in town, hands down. They're very committed to local, so you'll see Local Burger's veggie burger, some beers from Boulevard Brewing in Kansas City and Lawrence's own 23rd Street Brewery and Free State Brewery. As far as food goes, their 1, 2 or 3 meat platters are awesome. I usually get a two-meat platter with turkey and brisket. As far as sides goes, you really can't go wrong. I usually go with one potato product and I love their fries but I usually pass on them for their potato salad. The only other potato salad I prefer would be my mom's. Their green beans, hot corn bake and cornbread sides are also very very good. Most BBQ places just focus on having fries and beans. Biggs goes beyond that. I've also had their stuffed jalapeno peppers before and they're pretty good. read more

Don't get delivery. It was very cold and and no flavor whatsoever. Like they save food to the side for delivery. I had Chicken Fried Chicken and it said it came with mashed potatoes and gravy and two sides. Yah, no taters and the gravy that came with the chicken was watery and had no flavor. My two sides were jalepeno cornbread and green beens. The cornbread was OK - it's cornbread and the beans were slightly softer than plastic ones. My hubby had burnt ends and didn't finish them and you don't know my husband - he loves, loves bbq. I will never do this again. I do have to say that it was quick (so why was is so cold) and the delivery gal was very nice. I've also gotten the take out and it's no better. read more

I enjoyed the smoked chicken and ribs. They do a nice job. I'll be back. I was told by the manager they make everything there and that certainly beats frozen stuff out of a box. And it is locally owned which makes it even better. read more
