Monday chicken! Off the chain

Amazing work on the food. Nice tasting rub. Biggs will never let you down. Top bbq place in Lawrence Kansas

Awesome service and prices. Not the best bbq ever but they give really big portions for the price. Ribs are definitely a hit here. Mac and cheese was bland but other than that everything else was decent or really good. Don't skip dessert, the white chocolate bread pudding is so good.

Overall the place was mediocre bbq food. The ribs were pretty good. The beans are great! The macaroni is extremely bland. The fries are greasy and soft. Our chicken quarters were raw inside. Management agreed that they were and offered to give us a half slab of ribs in their place. Waitress had a hard time keeping our drinks full. I wouldn't plan to go again. If you're in Lawrence and want BBQ, try it out. Otherwise, wait til you're in another part of town like KCK and visit Slaps instead.

I have eaten a lot of barbecue in my life, and this joint is really good! The cheesy corn bake was my favorite and one of the best side dishes I've ever had. The ranch was also really good. They have a few different barbecue sauces - my favorite was the sweet one. The portion sizes are really good, especially with the appetizers. The full size order of onion rings was huge; it came with sweet chili sauce and BBQ ranch - both which were so good. Our server was very attentive and got our drinks and appetizers out quick. The restaurant itself is in a good location, and has two stories so it's plenty big. Good spot to go to before a KU game!

There is so much to like about this place, even as a Texan. But not so much the brisket (...blame it all on my roots). I opted for Bigg's because of its philosophy of not drenching everything in sauce. First, the service here is outstanding. The atmosphere is very much like a Chili's or Applebee's -- quasi-dark with decently sized tables. Beer selection also includes some local quaffs. The food here is fresh and served in a timely manner. We had an appetizer and a sampler platter. Read on... Appetizer -- The barbecued egg rolls are interesting and delicious. Creamy and smoky, served with Thai sweet chile sauce. Good stuff. Fun. Brisket -- Dry with no fat. If you're from New York, you'll probably love it. If you're from Texas, you'll immediately notice that there's no pink smoke ring. Chopped and placed on a bun, it's probably OK. But it leaves a lot to be desired otherwise. Ribs -- It's difficult to screw up ribs. So long as they are cooked low and slow, they'll fall off the bone. Such was the case with the Babyback and St. Louis-style. Tender with a little smoke flavor. I'd eat them again. Chicken -- Good. Slightly smoky and tender. Burnt Ends -- Surprisingly good. Tender and smoky with a little char. These were the star of the show for me (my wife preferred the ribs). Sides -- The fried okra is some of the best I've ever had at a restaurant. Not sure what they use to bread it (cracker meal maybe?) but it totally gets there; Cole slaw is crunchy and creamy deliciousness; Potato salad was cold and creamy, but a little too sweet for my taste (again, this might be a local version). I was raised on outstanding barbecue ... not only homemade, but the local (Texas) pits. As a rule, Texas barbecue must have a smoke ring and it should melt in your mouth. Why am I saying this? Merely to clarify that I'm reviewing this place from a Lone Star perspective. -- I really like that Bigg's lets the customer decide on the sauce. I'm partial to a vinegar-based spicy sweet concoction, and Bigg's offers it up, along with several other regional versions. I also really like that there are plenty of options for mains and sides here. Bottom line: If I lived here, I'd eat here regularly -- sans the brisket and potato salad. The quality here is good, as is the service.

I was so disappointed. I had heard that this was the best barbecue in the area so perhaps my expectations were a bit high. However, everything about the food it was just rather generic. There wasn't a very good selection of sauce and the sauces they had did not really stand out. If you have read my other reviews, you know that I absolutely love barbecue. In my opinion, any barbecue is better than no barbecue. Unfortunately, I don't know if that would be true here. My food was not very warm. The meat was not very flavorful and needed whatever sauce I could find in order to add flavor. The ribs were so tough that I actually only ate half of one of them. When I was finished eating, I had more than half of my food left. I did not even ask for a to go box because I knew that I would never finish it. Hard pass on this restaurant.

Front of store.

Solid burnt ends and brisket. Fries, Mac and cheese were great sides. Lots of food for the value.

Big Mill - Detroit style pizza

Big Mill

If you're tired of thin crust pizza, Bill Mill is the place to go. Their Detroit-style pizza is…read moreexactly what you want--crispy and crunchy on the outside with a soft, fluffy inside. Total comfort food. The hamburgers are juicy and delicious, and the drinks are just as strong. The Old Fashioned is my go-to every time. I've tried a few other cocktails, but I always come back to this one--it never disappoints. The staff is always so friendly and helpful--great service every visit. Yes, parking can be a little tight, but that's part of the charm and uniqueness of Big Mill and its history. We've had a couple of visits where the crust tasted slightly like old butter, but it's only happened a few times and definitely hasn't stopped us from going back. Great pizza, great burgers, strong drinks, and consistently friendly service--we'll keep coming back.

The food is good but it's not GREAT. I think the prices are a bit high for what you get. To me, this is a restaurant that is trying to be fancy but can't pull it off. Parking is a crap shoot, at best. The parking lot is super small. The restaurant is easy to access for those with mobility concerns. There will be those who disagree with me but there isn't anything outstanding about this establishment. Every time I have been here, the service has been lacking. Everyone is friendly enough but they have problems getting my take out orders correct. I usually get a burger to go. Oh, yeah... fries are extra. If I'm paying $14 for a cheeseburger, you would think fries would be included. Not here. Bottom line... it's not bad but there are other, better restaurants in town.
