The mighty have fallen. What used to separate KB from their competition was the quality of their…read moreproduct, but here we are, "shrinkflation". The burger is now 10-20% smaller. The bun is smaller, less plump and airy. Likewise, the hamburger meat is smaller, less juicy, less vegetables, where did the crinkle cut long pickles go? Why is there less sauce on the burger? Why are there less vegetables? It's like elements of the burger are being rationed. "Gradual changes are less noticeable over time, but they're still noticeable to the keen observer." --Albert Einstein Biting into a Classic Double used to be like biting into a large juicy apple. It used to be so big it was difficult to wrap your teeth around it; it was difficult to hold in two hands without it falling apart, stuffed with meat and vegetables, dripping with grease and cheese, that's what made it brilliant and excessive. A treat for when you wanted the perfect hamburger. "Yesterday's hamburger was equivalent to a small hockey puck served from 'Burgerville' or 'Jack in the Box'." --Wayne Gretzky I've been noticing a slow and steady decline in KB since they reduced the size of their burger boxes and started charging for bacon. As the packaging got smaller, so did their portions. The cooking wasn't good on this last visit either. "Well Done" by my definition means just the meat patty, it doesn't include cheese and bacon. If you overcook cheese it evaporates. Overcook bacon and it turns into brittle sticks. "Well done" simply means we don't want cool or tepid raw meat at the center of our burger. If you cook past well done, it becomes "extra well done", "overcooked" or "charred". My recent burger was overcooked when I asked for well done. "I currently rate the KB burger (3/5) and fries (3/5). The KB burger used to be (5/5) perfect." --this reviewer (10/10/2026) So, how does this compare with your competition? 'Five Guys' has the best fries (5/5) perfect fries, but their burger is (3/5). 'In-N-Out' has the best "mid" product (4/5) for both burger and fries, but now I'd rather eat at 'Five Guys' or 'In-N-Out' because their quality is better, and they're cheaper now too. KB used to be the "premium hamburger" option both in terms of cost and quality. These last few monthly visits to KB have me thinking they've stopped competing with 'Five Guys' and 'In-N-Out', and are now competing with 'Burgerville', 'Jack in the Box' and 'McDonalds'. If that's true, they're going to lose a lot of customers. I hope they figure it out.

These are various takes on Burger King's Whopper and it's difficult to prove otherwise. Canard's steamed slider? A chef'd up White Castle. Champs, Farmer and the Beast and Tulip Shop? Yes, every city has smash burgers now, congratulations. Wolf's Head? The issue with throwing pork into the mix is some days it's glorious and some days it's the driest burger you'll ever eat. Higgins?! Yes, dad, your $30 bacon cheeseburger was totally worth it and not at all a slightly upgraded McMenamins offering. But Five Stars? I'm genuinely stunned every time Grand Lodge has a show and this place isn't packed. Those who know treasure it, and those who lack the patience are missing out. There's enough commentary on the spartan interior and the counter-and-drink-cooler aesthetic, but the important detail is the note to customers to the right of the register: Your meal is going to take time. It's going to be perhaps 20 to 40 minutes. It will not come out before that time. If you are in a hurry, please go elsewhere. They say this as straightforwardly as they can: They would rather have the time to prepare your meal correctly and sell fewer burgers than churn out nonsense to more customers. Armed with that knowledge, I ordered a bulgogi cheeseburger, took my drink, and settled in to watch the traffic. On a weekday, my only companions were older couples who'd clearly been coming in for years. About 25 minutes later, the burger arrived on its char-toasted kaiser bun (a rarity out here). On the first bite, I encountered both flavor and texture I could only compare to a wagyu-based take on a Big Mac that I'd sampled at a Chicago culinary festival. The patty melted into a near pate, while the bulgogi blended with the cheese into a complementary umami flavor that chains like Umami Burger never quite achieved and local spots like Mr. Bento seem too focused on speed and volume to prepare correctly. I am absolutely late to the party here and realize that countless influencers, food critics, car clubs, and Western Washington County regulars have already made 5 Stars an overwhelming success. But that "best in Oregon" claim isn't just a tilted Yelp score or foodie hyperbole: It's a whole lot of time and effort paying off in a product worth the expense. 5 Star unquestionably makes the best burger in this state, but it's the care taken by the family behind it and the genuine love of the community surrounding it that separates it from the crowd. P.S. I can't believe the former owner of Piattino left a bad review. What would I rather do with my life: Make food and experiences that people remember months to years later and serve as the basis for comparison to every burger that comes next, or open the 30th reclaimed-barnwood restaurant in town with a forgettable take on the same pizza made by at least three other Portland spots?

This was my first time trying Cornerstone, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I ordered the Lumberjack Burger with a side of fries, while my partner got the A-Rok Burger with a side of tater tots. The second they handed me the bag, it smelled absolutely incredible. We couldn't wait to dig in. The fries and tater tots were immaculate, perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. As for the burgers... oh my goodness. They were juicy with the perfect amount of grease, had an amazing char-grilled flavor, and were topped with fresh lettuce and tomato that tied everything together perfectly. This is definitely going to be one of my go-to spots whenever I'm craving a really good burger. For around $40 for two meals, I honestly can't complain. Great service, great food, and an all-around wonderful first experience. I can't wait to come back!

As for the chicken sandwich sammy itself, it was crunchy good! It had two pieces of chicken that dominated the bun. The bottom bun was flattened that I had to flip it over just to take a bite.
