I'm not usually a fan of 'theme park food', but was pleasantly surprised by Big Fire during our visit for dinner the other night. I had the beer glazed scallops and my partner had the chicken and dumplings. Both were prepared perfectly and had a nice smokey flavor that we both really enjoyed. The wine and beer selection was decent (quite a few more wines than beer, only a few craft beer options - more than many theme park restaurants in any case). The ambiance was also nice, feeling cozy and a bit upscale. I will note that the lightbulb was out above our table which made the menus hard to read. The prices were on the higher end, but reasonable considering it's in City Walk, at around $20-$40 per entree. It definitely felt fair all things considered. Super surprised with the food here! It was FIRE! Made a reservation on their website and was seated right on time. My boyfriend and I were greeted and seated immediately when they texted that our table was ready. Our server Josh was amazing and gave us some great recommendations since it was our first time trying this place. We ordered the Filet Mignon, tableside s'mores and Bourbon Cheese Fondue to share. The food was plenty enough for us two and we were stuffed by the end of it. It did not take long to get our food...maybe around 10 minutes. Everything was wonderful. The steak was so tender and seasoned perfectly. The cheese fondue was the star of the show for us. The fondue was thick and creamy and full of flavor. We ordered it with the cola pork and it was the best choice! The flavor from the pork soaked in the cheese and just made the flavors melt even more. All the sides used to dip the cheese paired very well. The tableside s'mores are a must to get it if you bring kids along. It was so fun to melt the s'mores on the table even for us mid-20-year-olds. Our new favorite restaurant in the area! And, to think we found this outside of a theme park! We ordered the brussel sprouts. So happy to see it wasn't the usual sweet with bacon boringness. Instead, it had shishitos and a delicious spread under it. I ordered the salmon sandwich. Fresh and delish! But, the fries (which I normally don't care for) were out of this world! I am craving them right now. We also ordered the filet. Let me tell you - we just dined at 2 other very high end steakhouses this week (we are at a work conference - I know - gluttony to the G!) but this was one of the best filets I've ever had. Had a quick dinner at the bar, which was convenient since there was no wait and they serve the full menu there. Service was pretty good, considering the bartenders were constantly busy making and serving drinks. The burrata and heirloom tomato salad was good, with lots of tomatoes and a delicious eggplant caponata. There were no cucumbers as the menu described, but there were 4 different types of tomatoes as well as several types of cherry tomatoes. The caponata was sweet with a little tanginess that complimented the creamy cheese and tomatoes. Unfortunately the toasted bread slices accompanying the salad were grilled but cold and hard, probably prepared ahead of time. If you love tomatoes, this is the salad for you! Went here for my birthday dinner before the UOAP event. Had a 4:00 reservation and were promptly seated upon arrival, unfortunately we weren't terribly happy with where our table was located and upon letting the staff know we were promptly moved to a table that was more to our liking. We were quickly greeted by Chalmers, who was warm and welcoming. He was very forthcoming with suggestions and information. Ultimately we started with cocktails. I went with Chalmers' suggestion of the Classic Old Fashioned while my friend decided to have the Blackberry Citrus, both of which were well crafted and balanced. While we enjoyed our cocktails we went ahead and placed our appetizer and main course order. We had the Bourbon Cheese Fondue as our appetizer and as our main courses my friend order the Beer Can Chicken and I ordered the Shrimp and Smoked cheddar grits. While we waited for our appetizer, Chalmers checked in on us periodically and we had pleasant conversations with him. Our appetizer arrived and was beautifully presented. The cheese fondue paired very well with the choice of veggies and bread that accompany it. Overall a great first course. The entrees arrived in an appropriate amount of time. I throughly enjoyed the perfectly seasoned grilled shrimp with the smoky cheddar grits and the andouille sausage gravy. My friend enjoyed the flavors of the beer can chicken and found the meat to be moist and well seasoned, the sides that accompanied the meal were also wonderful. While we enjoyed our dinner, we could help but notice that the staff was happy really seem to enjoy working there. When ordering wine we somehow managed to order two different bottles that they were out of. They attempted to run to another restaurant to look for them but were unsuccessful. As a result we didn't get served our third choice of wine until our meal came out. I had the ribeye. It was pretty big and alright. My wife had the chicken and as she got a few bites into it, she discovered it wasn't cooked. We flagged down a manager and he recognized the issue immediately and offered to take care of it. Our server our last time was great, but this night our server was too notch, offering recommendations, pairings, and timing everything to bring items out perfectly. Our table had a pretty good selection of the menu, no lamb chops, sirloin, and about every side on the menu, plus dessert. This time around, I , and my friends, really enjoyed the experience and would come back. Though I didn't go for the fried chicken, the sirloin, crispy potatoes, and veggies are great options. Atmosphere is about the best thing you can say about this place. The menu can be found at almost any Universal City Walk restaurant. For a steak place, you have four or five choices, none of which are very impressive. Not bad, but nothing to write (or text) home about. Our server was less than happy (which happens), but it was off-putting. We almost stopped at an appetizer or two and thought we'd get something back at the hotel instead...but we thought we'd stick it out. WE WERE WRONG. My steak, ordered medium-well, came out so dry that the manager, who I did not ask to see, kindly asked twice to replace it. I had already (by this time), spent 1 hour and 45 minutes in the restaurant and thought that was enough of an investment. Then we discovered that my son's burger was raw. We did have the restaurant re-do the burger and then ate, paid the bill and left. I didn't eat my steak, and they did take it off the bill. This was more than a matter of the restaurant having a bad night. The entire restaurant model was poorly thought-out. They have a full capacity of 450 people, But a Kitchen they could probably only handle 200 people. Food was late at every table around us. There were long lines outside of both the men's room and the ladies room. The reception area overflowed with people waiting for their tables, And with an overburden kitchen, and late delivery of food to tables, this problem only got worse as the evening went on. All of the restaurants at Universal City Walk get really busy around dinnertime, as in- you better have reservations in advance or you aren't nomming until 11pm most likely. We were dum dums and forgot about this little detail on our last trip, which resulted in us getting in a very long line to leave our phone number for the wait list. When we found out that bar seating was open, we were lucky to snag two seats and just order from here. The restaurant has a nice modern design and a high ceiling with contemporary hardwood, white brick walls, and black piping and edison lighting. The bar has a nice wrap around design and featured comfy seating. The bartender was very helpful and got us drinks straightaway. It was great to see the gf designations on the menu making it easy for me to find gluten free options. We really enjoyed the brussels sprouts we had here that had nice spicy peppers with them. Our drinks were also great and the husband was super pleased that his Moscow mule was served in a copper mug. The theming, menu options, BOURBON options (so many allocated options that are super hard to come across in Orlando), fresh food, and friendly service made this visit memorable. Giovani, Chris, and Azkadelia were great. Food wise, I ordered the skillet roasted mussels and the wood charred Brussels sprouts. Both were very flavorful, and the portions were good for the price point. Drink wise, I had a bird dog chocolate Manhattan, and it was the perfect amount of sweetness to bitterness. We finally went to Big Fire and it was FIRE!!!!!! We had the 20z T-Bone steak ( shareable) and it was phenomenal !!!!!!! It came with carrots and potatoes. The smoked carrots has a specific taste that we enjoyed like the smoke in HHN lol that's the only way I could describe it. If your a fan you will know lol anywho ! We had the bread as an appetizer . It was good but should've ordered something else to try. Overall , It was great ambiance , service , and food. Highly recommend it ! Make reservations. All in all, Bigfire is a good choice to head to after a day at the theme parks and is priced appropriately for being on CityWalk. Service is friendly and the environment is relaxing and a good vibe, however it remains noncommittal about the kind of food that is offered in this restaurant. I grabbed the cheeseburger here, which was definitely a good choice. It was a bit expensive, but I would rather be overcharged for good food as opposed to being overcharged in the theme parks for what is basically fast food. I will say that the steaks also looked pretty good. All in all, Bigfire is a great selection to grab a meal, whether you opt for a burger or a steak or whatever. I would definitely recommend a visit to Bigfire and I will offer it four stars. read more
