Scenario, multiple computers crash as we're moving office space. I try to go on the cheap with my buddy who knows a thing or two more than me about the subject. HUGE mistake. Everything was wiped by the time I got my computer down to Big Sky. I was just hoping he could save me the 500 it would take for a new tower because it wouldn't even connect any more. I have the feeling that computer guys are like mechanics, they talk over your head, never directly address your problem, and gouge you like no tomorrow. So, expecting the same I sheepishly carried this tower into his humble looking shop. Well, it was bare bones for sure, and he's not the "professional" looking type.l, but then the magic started. In 5 minutes he knew 10 times more about this machine I had used for 3 years than I would ever know, and 20 more times than my "IT" guy thinks he knows. Long story short, within 6 hours I had my computer back running better than ever and the price only went up $10. That was because he had to replace a part, which had my other guy known would have saved dozens of hours of everyone's time. Dave is scary smart about computers, I just hope he can stay in business the way he does it. Don't half ass your computer and make it worse. Take it in and it will be the best $60 you can spend. An honest computer repair shop is usually an oxymoron--something that doesn't exist. That is unless you have discovered Big Sky Computers. It is on the other side of town for me, but after reading all of the positive Yelp reviews, I decided to give them a try. I'd ordered a new 17" laptop and when I received it discovered it is too big for me to want to haul around. The Dell it replaced was still working but not very well. It kept shutting down by itself and freezing. I decided that if it didn't cost too much to fix I would have it repaired so I could use it when traveling. It also has some programs that aren't compatible with Windows 8.1 that I use frequently. If it was on the verge of being terminal unless big bucks were spent, I would not pursue fixing it. I couldn't believe David. He is a total gem. Everything everyone says about him is true. He quickly diagnosed my problem and asked me to leave it with him for a few days. The cost of the repair was a fraction of what I thought it would be and it is working like a charm. If I'd gone to him first, I might not have purchased the replacement laptop. This is where I take my desktop when it's feeling ill. Dave has handled upgrades and hardware failures for me, but most important is that he gives an evaluation of what's going on. This is not the case of the customer always being right - if I was always right, I wouldn't need a tech - and he'll give you a very educated opinion on what you're doing and what you need. Hasn't led me astray so far. Prices are also really good as well. Of particular note, he has helped me troubleshoot over the phone instead of bringing it in. I had a Dell PC that wouldn't come out of hibernate so I started looking for computer repair near me. I decided to check yelp reviews. Yelp customers really liked a business called "Big Sky Computers ". So I called Big Sky and David (the owner) answered and tried "trouble-shooting" for me. Unfortunately, I was calling from work but couldn't believe that this man was offering FREE trouble-shooting! I took my unit the next day and while I waited, he tried several things in hope for repair. After (his) daunting task of process of elimination, we discovered the motherboard was bad. We decided my best option was to transfer docs and pics to an external hard drive. Had a problem with my Alienware PC, when I opened my PC Saturday. It would not even boot up, so had no idea how to proceed... Brought my PC to Big Sky and spoke to David. He ran a diagnostic and found that one if my 2 drives was bad. What was nice is he checked it right in front of me, explaining what he was doing. When he pulled the drive, he cleaned the connector and the drive and instead of just chucking it, he tried replacing it to see if it might still be OK and if something had dislodged... It was bad, but it was nice of him to check. He had a couple replacement parts, and gave me the choice to use the same part or upgrade. He fixed it, reloaded drivers, etc, and away I went. But, what is really great about this experience is what happened Sunday, the following day. I rarely write reviews, but this deserved one. On Sunday, I opened my PC and it connected to the internet, but would not connect to any site that required a password. I called Dave and left a message, they are closed in Sunday... Lo and behold he called me back on his day off and walked me through the fix over the phone... That kind of dedication and helpfulness should be rewarded. He didn't even know how to open mine up so we struggled together trying to open it then I got nervous that he was going to cause more damage to it so I went ahead and left before he could further work on it. I rarely write reviews, but I just had to for this one. My computer had failed to do a complete restore and was pretty much useless; I thought I needed to get a new one. It was suggested to me that I find a computer repair place first before buying a new old. I'm like great, where am I going to find a good place? So, with the help of Google Search and Yelp, I came across Big Sky Computers. It was Saturday afternoon, and I needed someone now. After reviewing Yelp and their website, everything said they were open, so I went ahead and just came on in with the PC, didn't call or anything. When I got there, David was sitting at the desk, and I explain the situation. After looking at it and running a quick couple of tests, we found out the PC still worked but needed to have the hard drive wiped again and then restore Windows. He said it shouldn't be a problem; he could get it done. In this day and age, it's difficult to find honesty when it comes to businesses. I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to using the computer and know nothing about fixing a problem. My wife and I brought our laptops in to Big Sky and spoke with the owner David. From the onset David was willing show us the problem and quickly provide solutions. The most impressive thing was that the money clock did not start until the problem was pinpointed. We could have easily been ripped off with work/parts and labor that was not needed. After discussing options, he was able to slave the hard drive into a different PC that I bought along. I had been feeling stuck and overwhelmed for over 3 weeks! :/ While simply trying to do a factory reset my computer got stuck. I am no computer genius so unfortunately I had no clue what to do I did the normal resets and nothing was working. I had the pleasure of visiting David twice at his computer shop because of 2 separate problems related to my old Lenovo laptop. The first issue was to due to the Win 7 auto-update stuck in an install loop and the second was my wireless connection not interfacing properly between my computer and printer. David figured out the solutions to both: too low of a storage space remaining in my hard drive which obstructed the Win 7 from completing its install and a WPS button on my router that the printer setup required in order for my computer to connect with it. He's also very good at helping to troubleshoot over the phone when necessary, and I think it shows how much he values quality customer care that he would continue to extend his assistance even after you've left his shop. His rates are fantastically fair, and you won't ever feel like he ripped you off. His location is small and on the older side of town, but it's worth the trip to bring your ailing computer to his capable hands! This computer repair shop is a one man show. What you see is what you get. David is the owner, service manager and computer tech man. My computer desktop broke down so I took it to Fry's Electronics and Staples. However, to replace the hard drive and other things was going to cost too much money. With the high cost to repair the computer, I might has well buy a brand new computer. On a last ditch effort, I brought my computer to David. He fixed my computer for almost half the cost of Fry's and Staples. As a result, I could save a lot of money by not buying a new computer. I really like David because he is honest a straight forward and knowledgeable. He even told me all the advantages of buying a new computer instead of getting it fixed even though it risked him losing my business of getting it repaired. He was really looking out for my best interest. This does not happen much in Vegas. A month later, my computer lab top caught a virus. He was great in removing my virus and he educated me on how to keep my computer virus free. Again he is half the cost of most places. I needed to get a laptop fixed and saw the good reviews for this shop, which is very close to where I live. I decided to go and talk to David and even though he was not able to fix the laptop, he explained all the tests he did and showed me why the laptop was not repairable (it had a fatal flaw). David earns all his 5 star reviews! Even the reviews at the bottom under "Not Recommended" are all glowing reviews, they must have overlooked rating by the 1 to 5 Stars option... Long story short, I was the problem! Trying to keep things updated, secure and fast, I was doing a few things wrong that led up to computer freezes and finally, not being able to get online! Although many times, due to the severity of the problems, one day service isn't possible, but many times, a huge problem to us is a minor issue to David. Although David didn't promise I could pick up my computer by end of business, he called at 5 PM and said if I can pick up by 7 PM, it's ready to go. (His hours are 10 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday). He got it all squared away, installed a few programs we agreed on to keep it performing great, and briefly educated me on what to do/what not to do.
