I've been pretty lucky lately, and have been hitting 5 star places, one after another. Big Sky Cafe was one of them. Came here with a group of 8 women before a play at The Rep. Our server asked if we were seeing a play, and when we said yes, she kept us on track, so we weren't late. The food was FABULOUS and the cocktail I got, with the waitress's suggestion, was extremely good. We were seated at a large round table which made conversation easy and enjoyable. It was a lovely meal in a lovely place.

What a pleasant surprise! This spot far exceeded expectations. We decided to go heavy on the appetizers and I'm so glad we did, every single dish was delicious. We came in without big expectations, and it ended up being one of those meals you can't stop talking about on the way home. We'll definitely be back, next time for round two of the appetizer dinner.

Our first time at restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away towards the end of the street. Arrived around 7:45pm on a rainy Thursday evening. Restaurant wasn't crowded so they seated everyone in one section. The restaurant has an eclectic 90's vibe which was cool. We started with soup and we shared the Ozark Forest Mushroom and Asparagus Soup and the Chilled Roast Beet with Black Bean Soups. I enjoyed the flavors of the Ozark soup. It had lemon and arugula. The soup was brothy with a lot of depth. The beet soup surprised me on how great it tasted. The soup was creamy and it had goat cheese crème on top which added to the richness of the soup. Then we shared the Big Sky Cheddar Burger cook medium. The burger came with a brioche bun which was slightly toasted. The burger meat was tender and flavorful. Jim was our server and he did an excellent job and we appreciated his guidance with ordering.

Big Sky is delicious. We've been going here for years, and our family knows the owners. We recently catered their Pot Roast, Cauliflower Au Gratin and a few other sides for a holiday celebration. They were delicious! Highly recommend this place!

Overall, the food was fine but the service seemed disorganized. We had a reservation to sit outside and got seated at a table in the front of the building. Wasn't until later that we realized that we had the only chairs without seat pads. Our server came by to take our order, and at the end to drop off the bill. In between, we ran it of water and I went in to ask for more. Multiple servers walked by and seemed to not notice that we needed anything. After asking at the front, I was told that our server was delayed because of a credit card issue? The food was fine. Not large portions, not anything amazing. For the cost, it was just fine. I asked my wife what she thought and she had the same response. No reason to go back, especially with the way the service was.

It was a Saturday around 11:00ish. Lots of reviews and lots with 3, 4, an 5 stars so was a little weirded out that there were only a few cars in the lot. We decided to go in anyway based on the reviews and thought maybe there was parking g elsewhere we couldn't see Entered and the place was fairly empty. The woman covering the hostess stand asked if we had a reservation. We did not. Strange as there were about 4 tables with diners. I went back later and read through some reviews and others had mentioned this, too. So, dining room was pretty empty and we were seated at a table in the middle of the room that was separated from another seated table by a pole. We were SO uncomfortable! I go to lots of places with community tables and I'm fine with that but when it's expected. This was not a community table and we were so close to the other table it was as if we were dining with them. I don't get this at all. Server was nice, she made recommendations. Food. I got the recommended Big Sky Benedict with potatoes. Potatoes were ok, kind of dry. The Benedict was perplexing. The salmon kind of melted on a biscuit and both were warm, the poached egg on top was ice cold. I was stumped but felt like the egg had to be cold on purpose. I didn't like it. The horseradish hollandaide was good but the cold eggs just put me off. Just an overall strange experience.

The most amazing thing on this menu hands down is the gruyere and spinach grilled cheese and tomato soup - ugh its amazing. Cut into 4 small triangles. Perfect for sharing and they give the perfect amount of soup for dipping! We came for happy hour just in time for it to start (which i recommend because it filled up quick!) I liked the beet pesto dip with crackers as well but honestly i'd rather just get another grilled cheese. Their special $7 happy hour menu was good - some items were listed "$7+1" on the menu which was confusing. Like just say $8 - this is happy hour and i am on my second drink i cant do math right now lol The service was awesome - I ordered a drink that was not my vibe after a few sips and when i told our waitress she brought me a new fall sangria and didnt even charge me for the previous drink! The sangria was delicious btw. Definitely check this place out they have so many amazing options on their menu and their happy hour has great options!

I am surprised I have not been here sooner! I really enjoyed brunch here and I cannot wait to return. My server was absolutely perfect - he was attentive, informative and timely - I was happy to hear about his menu suggestions and definitely took him up on it. I started my meal with a fresh cup of coffee & Chilled Thyme Roasted Beet Soup. To say this soup was nothing short of amazing would be an understatement. I absolutely loved it and - while it is not on the menu currently - I would love to come in and learn how to make it (if they let me :)) it was perfection. My main brunch item was a Cajun Shrimp Benedict on Arepas - first off, it is so hard to find arepas around town, secondly, the Cajun Shrimp sauce for the benedict was so flavorful without being overpowering. I loved the balance of the fresh tomatoes & spinach with the egg, sauce & arepas. 10/10 would return!

Love this hidden little gem tucked behind old Webster. The food ingredients are high quality, and they support local farmers. They offer many dishes with gluten free substitutes as well. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful with providing direction on options based on our palates. Thank you Bianca! And we were more than pleased with our Scallop entree. They were nice and big, cooked perfectly and the risotto, tomatoes and sauce were outstanding. Fresh and flavorful perfect for hot evening. We started with crab cakes from happy hour menu and were equally yummy, nice amount of crab. We also had the mussels which I've had here before and always nice sized meat, with delicious sauce to dip my gluten free (and gluten) breads into. The Purple Sky happy hour drink was a fun twist on margarita and generous on the pour. I always come back to this spot when I want a nice quality tasty meal that is unpretentious for a laidback date. The patio is quaint, small but tables are set apart so you have privacy. They could cram more tables in here so I am so appreciative they focus on a nice atmosphere versus more tables. As always, a great experience.

Why volleyball? Well....why not? The only detractor from this overall, near perfect experience, was a longer than expected delay in getting those yummy mushrooms. They have a unique cocktail program--I sampled most of my friend's drinks (my favorite was the Strawberry Balsamic gin tonic). However, I ordered the shakeajillio, which was pretty basic espresso martini, not my favorite I've ever had, but just so-so. Every single person in my party was absolutely blown away with the food. We tried several of the tapas and shared as a table, my absolute favorites are as follows (in order): 1. Agnolotti - this one surprised me, but the pasta may have been the best I've ever had. It was the perfect thickness and had just enough bite, filled perfectly full of creamy goat cheese, and swimming in a perfectly balanced sauce. 2. Brussel Sprouts - hands down the best I've had. Crisped perfectly, with a tart and acidic glaze, loaded with toppings. I could NOT stop eating them, long after I was full. 3. Tuna on Toast - this was a popular one for the whole table--very unexpected but so, so good. The charred bread with a super soft interior that it came on was fabulous as well. This is also the only tapa I got a picture of. We also got the patatas bravas, Spanish Caesar, beef carpaccio, gambas Al ajillo, and chorizo white wine mussels--all also great, except for the carpaccio which was a little salty for my taste. It's worth noting that the portions are larger than I expected, WELL worth the price! One friend opted for a full size entree, and she went for the strip steak which she absolutely loved. If you haven't been, you simply MUST GO. Idol Wolf is easily one of my favorite restaurants in the whole city after just one visit. You've got a fan for life!

The shrimp come tail on, which is fine, but one of them had sand in it, I'm not sure from what, but they definitely were not thoroughly cleaned. The flavor was flat and yet the Pad Thai was overly saucy. I saw people saying this restaurant it is authentic, speaking highly of the food, but they must be comparing it to other Thai-American spots because I just don't see it at least from the Pad Thai. Pad Thai should ideally have subtle cooked down flavors of tamarind and fish sauce, some complex sweetness from palm sugar, and subtle dried shrimp flavor as well. But here the flavor just was bland and uninteresting. Some redeeming qualities are that they had some dried shrimp on top, which is very rare in the US even in larger cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle; the rice noodles themselves were cooked well (not over or undercooked); the bean sprouts looked fresh and clean; and the peanuts, chili powder, and lime coming separately was appreciated. I am do not believe in basing ratings on service and generally don't comment on service, but it wasn't great. This included a 4-course meal and a glass of wine. We arrived around 6:50pm to find many other couples standing, waiting to be sat down. We checked in and were told to stand and wait. Around 7:30 pm, several other couples became impatient and were told they may sit at the bar. At this point, many 7:30pm seating time couples had arrived. At 7:45 pm, I watched 2 couples from the bar get seated at tables. I had watched them arrive to the rooftop off the elevator after my husband and I, so I spoke to one of the servers expressing our desire to be seated given it was now almost an hour past our seating time and that couples who had arrived after us were already being seated. To their credit, they sat us quickly, but it continued to go downhill from here. We waited 15 minutes for water, which we only got when we flagged down a server. Our food came out relatively quickly. During our first course, I asked for napkins (every other table had red fabric napkins) and our server brought us like 20 paper cocktail napkins, not ideal for a nice dinner. Our entrees eventually came, although the server brought out two of the cod entrees. My husband ordered steak. He brought my husband's steak, which he ordered medium, however when he cut in it was obviously rare. It was sent back. The next steak was also rare. We spoke with who appeared to be running the event and he stated he agreed it was rare (bleeding on the plate.) Finally on the third try, we received a medium rare steak, not as ordered, but close enough and at this point we wanted out of there as it was past 10 pm. Mind you, at this point we could feel the anger and frustration radiating from all of the 8/8:30 pm seating people who were still waiting on tables. We left quickly when our meal was done. We had one refill of water the entire 2hrs we were eating our meal. We were not asked if we wanted anything else to drink. This was a small event, maybe 15 tables. I'm not sure if it was overbooked, underpowered, or if they simply were just unprepared, but I've never had such a poor experience at a restaurant.

She made me a nice pumpkin cocktail. It was good, but not the best thing I've ever had. The inside is nice and it wasn't too crowded. The view is not the best ive ever seen, but the windows were open so the breeze felt nice on that warm night! Overall: the drinks were overpriced, but the inside is trendy. It was a nice place to hang out!

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.
