Big Rig's BBQ is a local restaurant that serves smoked meats (e.g., brisket, pork belly, turkey, kielbasa, pulled pork, and baby-back ribs), sandwiches (e.g., brisket grilled cheese, crispy hot chicken, and triple pig), sides (e.g., baked beans, coleslaw, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes), a kids' menu, a couple desserts, beverages, etcetera. The meats are smoked daily with a blend of hickory, cherry, and apple woods. Dining in, carry-out, delivery, and catering are available. So far, my husband and I have eaten two lunches here. We have tried most of the menu items and enjoyed all of them. Big Rig's BBQ is our favorite BBQ restaurant in the Pittsburgh region. For both visits, an employee at the front counter immediately greeted us and took our orders. We sat at a table of our choosing. Many minutes later, he brought the platters of foods to our table. Throughout our meals, he checked in with us to make sure that everything was great. For meats, we ate the brisket (5 stars, very tender and flavorful), baby-back ribs (5 stars, fall-off-the-bone and tasty), pulled-pork shoulder (4.5 stars, nicely smoked and goes well with the many sauces), pineapple kielbasa (5 stars, an explosion of unique, delicious flavors), pork-belly burn it ends (4.5 stars, tender with a very flavorful sauce), turkey (5 stars, juicy and flavorful), and smoked turkey-club sandwich (5 stars, my husband loves its cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and dijonaise). For sides, we ate the mac and cheese (4 stars, American, cheddar, and pepper jack), potato salad (4.5 stars, with bacon, scallions, cheddar cheese, bell peppers, and mustard), cornbread (4 stars, with cheddar cheese and BBQ honey butter), BBQ baked beans (5 stars, very flavorful ingredients), and brussels sprouts (5 stars, tasty sauce). My husband and I honestly think that Big Rig's BBQ might be the best BBQ restaurant in the Pittsburgh region. We will definitely return for a third visit when we are in the area.

However much I wanted to love this place, I just thought it was okay. The brisket in the brisket sandwich was a little dry and required a lot of bbq sauce to go down. The Mac and cheese was very liquidy. The standout dish was the side of beans- very flavorful. The service was really friendly though and the interior was cute so I hate to knock this place down a star but I do not think I'd make the drive to come back.

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but it is well worth the stop. Simple counter ordering and interior. They have all the bbq staples. We've tried ribs, pulled pork sandwich, brisket and more. Some favorites include the pork belly burnt ends, crispy brussels sprouts, and mac and cheese. It's a more traditional BBQ menu than Mitch's, but it's on par for some of the best BBQ in Pittsburgh.

Big Rig's BBQ makes delicious food. There's a big open kitchen behind the counter, so you can see seasoning, cooking, etc. happening right in front of you. Everything we had was great. (Tip: To go is not be a good idea if you are at all hungry and have a medium-to-long drive -- the food smells SO good, you will likely be tempted to pull onto a shoulder and start eating.) The restaurant was very clean, and the tangy Carolina (mustard based) sauce was surprisingly *fantastic* with the mac and cheese. I'm glad we gave it a try!

Wow wow wow. I'm from North Carolina, so finding decent barbecue is hard in my opinion. Enter Big Rig's- the best bbq I have EVER had. Their meat is tender and their sauces are spot on. I'm picky about Carolina mustard sauce, and theirs is out of this world. AND they have killer sweet tea. Makes my little heart feel at home. The space is cute and picnicy and the staff are so so so friendly. Great customer service here. From a girl who grew up on NC BBQ, Big Rig's is doing it RIGHT!

Big Rig's is located in a little Plaza off of the main highway in Monroeville. Although it is hidden, you'll definitely know where to find it when you go back over and over again! Big Rig's BBQ is tender and delicious. It's packed with a ton of flavor! All of the sides sound delicious, but I tried the Mac n' cheese and their potatoes. You can see by the picture that their portions are HUGE! With the prices being right and their food delicious, you'll be coming back here again and again!

I can't believe it took me this long to review this delicious BBQ place! I've ordered from here multiple times already, but swore I wrote a review - I was wrong This time I ordered the Burger of the Week (BOW) and sliced pork belly: 'Yes Sir' Bourbon Burger - 1/2 lb burger, house rub, pickles, aged cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon, makers mark bourbon bbq sauce, bbq spiced fried onion straws served with sweet bbq spiced fries Both burger and sliced pork belly were absolutely delicious! The sliced pork belly with the easy pull apart accompanied by the medium and hot sauces - mouth watering goodness! The staff are wonderful - polite, professional, and the overall service is top notch! Be sure to stop by this great BBQ place when you visit Monroeville!

Ribs and smoke Keilbasa. Very good.

Great Ribs, very nice, not drench in BBQ sauce. So many place put loads BBQ ribs to cover up the fact that their ribs suck. This place have great ribs. It's a nice simple clean place with great food. Service was quick, I hade takeout.

Pulled Pork sandwich Cornbread Mac n' Cheese

My mom and I stopped by Big Rig's BBQ for a quick late lunch/early dinner. The staff was so friendly and answered all the questions we had. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a slice of cornbread and the Mac n cheese. I wasn't blown away by the Mac n cheese or cornbread. The Mac n cheese is not baked but has decent flavor. It kind of gives premium boxed Mac n cheese. The cornbread was pretty tough but had ok flavor. The pulled pork sandwich I really enjoyed. The slaw on the sandwich was really good. I also didn't really like any of the bbq sauce offered that were placed on the table. We also placed orders for ribs and sides for New Year's Eve. The ribs were tender but again I didn't love the sauce. We also had the Nashville chicken sandwich which was disappointing. Lots of tough breading and not much chicken. I did not like the loaded potato salad at all. We also got the twice fried potatoes with brisket which was really good.

Instead, this was hands down the fastest large-group dinner I've ever had. Orders moved quickly, food came out hot, and nothing felt chaotic. For a group this size, that level of execution is genuinely impressive. Let's be clear: this is not Texas-style, 18-hour, smoke-ring BBQ--and it's not trying to be. What they do well is consistency and customization. You get six different sauces, and they actually ask whether you want your meat lean and dry or juicy. I went juicy, and my portions were flavorful, tender, and satisfying. I ordered the beef brisket and pulled pork, and also tried the pulled pork sandwich. Solid across the board. They were out of the cream corn (bummer), the mac and cheese was fine and comforting, and the cornbread was excellent--classic, slightly sweet, and the clear standout. This is BBQ built for scale: fast, reliable, and crowd-friendly. If you're feeding a large group and want everyone served quickly, with options and no drama, Mission BBQ absolutely delivers--even if it's not chasing smoke-ring perfection.

We've gotten there 3 times now for their catering service and was impressed each time. The food was hot and fresh each time. Portions were good size. All the meat was cooked great! There choices includes ribs, ( of course ) Pulled pork, chicken, brisket, turkey, sausage, burgers and salmon. There are a wide variety of sauces for every palate. Some mild and some spicy but all the ones I've tried are tasty. The sides were also very good! Mac and cheese and bacon green beans were my favorites but other sides include baked beans, French fries, collard greens, cold slaw and a couple seasonal items. The prices are decent but I was impressed with their commitment to veterans charities. I'll pay more to help those who serve our country! The Army Truck out front is very cool and it's their mobile smoker truck for large events The inside of the store has a warm, cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely feel like you're ready to enjoy some homemade delicious BBQ. Definitely recommended if you're hungry for some delicious scratch BBQ.

Their website says that they use ingredients from local farms and suppliers and make their foods fresh daily. Outside the restaurant are the smokers that they use to slow-cook the meats. The brisket and pork are said to be smoked for 12-14 hours. My husband and I ate at this restaurant years ago, but for some reason my previous review is not here. We liked Off the Rails then and still like it. Most recently, we ordered the BBQ Sampler Platter, which consisted of a 1/2 pound of brisket, 1/2 pound of pulled pork, 1/2 pound of pulled chicken, 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs, and choice of three sides. I rate the flavors of each of these meats at 5 stars and the flavors of the mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and crispy Brussels sprouts as 4.5 stars each. The pulled pork and pulled chicken came with three bread buns to make sandwiches. I saw three house-made sauces--Carolina Gold, Kansas City, and Lexington-style Mop--and they tasted very good. The ribs were not pull-off-the-bone, but they were probably the first batch of the day. We had arrived 40 minutes after their opening time. An employee had tried to get us to substitute the ribs with another meat, but we instead decided to wait about 20 minutes for the ribs to be done. We also ordered Smoked Fried Wings, which have many available dry rubs and sauces, but we got the house seasoning with no sauce. An employee said a chupacabra rub. These wings tasted fantastic and were the best food of our meal. We LOVED their crispy and delightfully seasoned skin and their juicy insides. I do not have a receipt, but the total price for our foods and one soda should have been just under $100 plus a tip. We had leftovers and put those in large and small plastic containers that I had brought from home. (Other reviewers said that customers are not allowed to take home leftovers, but we went on a day with no special prices, and we had enough leftovers for two more meals at home!) We loved the wings so much that on "wing night" a few days later, we returned for the wings and some other sides. On Wednesdays the restaurant charges only $1 per wing. We ordered the allowed maximum of 6 wings, which we again LOVED, as well as spicy collard greens (4 stars), coleslaw (with little dressing, 3.5 stars), and cornbread (4.5 stars). Note that live music is played on certain days of the week.

Food and drinks are ready in just a few minutes and the dining area is ample with clean tables and clean floors. An upgrade of plastic utensils would be appreciated however. Parking can be a problem but there is some to be found on the other side of the street but lacks a crosswalk so be very careful.

I had the steak tips, and my granddaughter had the NY strip steak. Both were cooked exactly the way we'd ordered them. She had fries, and I had mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes were so good, and I loved that gravy! My tips were swimming in mushrooms and sauteed onions. No shortage of either. I opted to skip the sour cream. No complaints at all. My granddaughter said she liked her steak better than the steaks she usually gets at Outback. I also got a side salad that was really good. Maybe it was because it had chopped hard boiled eggs on it, which most restaurant salads don't. I don't know, but I ate the entire thing, which I don't often do. I'd forgotten to order the dressing on the side, but it came on the side, so I really appreciated that. Now for the service. The service was top notch, from the person who seated us to our server to the manager. Our server was Jules. Ask for her! She was very friendly and attentive. She seemed to know what we wanted before we asked for it. The manager (forgot to get her name) was attentive, too. She was constantly walking the restaurant and stopping at tables to make sure everyone was pleased with their meals. She came to our table twice, but it wasn't intrusive at all. She was really friendly, too. We left full and happy and will definitely go back.
