Okay, upon arriving here we initially thought all the workers got abducted. There were people sitting at the tables AND the bar and not a single person had a food item or beverage. They all looked just as confused as us. After about 10 minutes of standing at the entrance, all of the staff appeared from the back and started to help us. We were seated and we order the frickles (fried pickles) to start and they weren't your usual twangy dill pickle but they were fantastic. I got the stuffed shrimp and jumbo scallops scampi and it was to die for. The scallops were HUGE and cooked to perfection. I got a side of mashed potatoes and they just needed a little salt but they were good too. I don't even like coleslaw that much but theirs was delicious. My wife and I had lunch here, great food, average bar service. We ordered the fresh catch and whiskey chicken. One with coleslaw, one with fries. No complaints, the fresh catch was wahoo and was cooked perfectly and the whiskey chicken was awesome. Service was a little slow and inattentive, but the food made it tolerable. The WORST fish and chips I've ever had!! Food came out almost 1 hour after ordering. Fish was frozen and still watery when served. Horrible tasting fish. Pros: I would like to give it 3.5 stars, not quite 4. I ordered the blackened Mahi with smashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. The Mahi was cooked perfectly, the potatoes tasted home made. My friends ordered the steak, a shrimp pasta dish, and the oysters. My hubby ordered the mangrove snapper. Everyone was happy with their meal. They gave my buddy a military discount! Hooray for the troops! Cons: For starters, the menu was a bit overwhelming. I am certain there are over 80 dishes. I don't need that many choices, show me what you are good at. The "fresh veggies" were simply collard greens, I was disappointed there wasn't a variety, they had good flavor but were olive green, had been cooked a little over and were more watery than I am used to. The wife places a simple short stack pancake order while I go for what was described as The Breakfast Sandwich ( egg, bacon, cheese ) on a Kaiser Roll.....After at least a half hour later...... comes out this one inch thick gooey pancake along with.......... two over fried now hard dried out eggs on an over sized cold and not even even toasted hamburger roll....but all that can almost be expected as you transverse the Overseas Highway thru the Keys..... After all ya gotta....... Give the place the benefit of the doubt.....maybe their specialty is not BREAKFAST........maybe they are an EXCELLENT LUNCH or Quick Dinner Place ...... That I'll never know.... cause I'll never ever go back.... The food here was below average and the atmosphere is uninviting. We started with the some garlic bread which had an really odd seasoning on it. Next, we got a Cuban, French Dip, and a salad. All were nothing spectacular and left us wanting something different. The fries were the only thing were great. I'd recommend eating in Key West. read more

I'd like to start with saying that their food was great! We ordered the jumbo coconut shrimp & conch fritters. However, we will not give our business to a place who does not make their customers feel safe. On the way back from Bahia Honda Beach we stopped here for some conch fritters. Walked in (with masks) & was greeted by 2 nice servers. We told them we wanted to order to go. They invited us over to the bar, which I thought was closed in restaurants due to Covid. I was hesitant because I saw the look on the face of an ignorant non-mask-wearing customer as he saw us walk in. Back story: my husband is Black & I'm Filipino (& pregnant) & the ignorant non-gentleman was Caucasian. When we were invited over to the bar, this same man told us - not asked us - to move down further away from him. Mind you, we were already 2 bar stools away. I firmly told him we are not moving any further. Our distance from him was already 6 feet apart AND the another Caucasian gentleman that just left was in the exact chair! The reason why I only gave 2 stars is solely because this exchange all happened in front of the waitress & she ignored it. She didn't try to deescalate the situation. I told my husband I'd rather wait in the car for our food, in which they offered to bring it out to us. However, after all that there were no apologies given from any parties. We are customers & human beings that deserve respect. I'm not going to be ordered where to sit by a bigot of a customer (as if he owns the establishment), especially after the waitresses escorted us to our seats. All in all the food was good, but because the restaurant did not challenge what we believe was a racially-motivated incident, it left a bad taste in our mouths. This place is not a good restaurant. Went here once waited forever for the food and when we got it, it was awful. A different time we were going to a restaurant that we like but they were closed so we decided to give Rooster another shot maybe they where having a bad day last time. Guess what waited again forever and they brought bad food again. Oh I almost forgot. Goofy name, great restaurant. Ended up here after passing a place I usually go to and am glad I did! Buck tooth has a solid menu of many entrees that is sure to please even the douchey'est eater in your party. We took along a gluten free douchebag and a vegetarian douchebag and even they found something they liked (amazingly). It's the Keys, so I went for the seafood, and pie. Buck tooth was on point, fresh and hot, attentive wait staff, clean restrooms, plenty of perfect. I even came back on my way north a week later. Same experience. They even remembered me. Cuban had no meat on it at all, took about an hour to get food on the table and about 20min to get greeted. I recommend Iguana Bait on Tap but go somewhere else to enjoy it. I placed my order (chicken Alfredo pizza, no onions), and when it arrived, I noticed that apparently there was pineapple on it. Well that's just weird, especially on this particular pizza, and it wasn't listed on the menu it came with such an odd topping. Oh well, I ate it anyway. It was good, not great. Had to flag down a waitress to get a drink refill and to request the check; apparently, they rang it up as a whiskey chicken pizza, which explains the pineapple. So much for bacon, there was a single little piece, which I assumed was an accident. In hindsight, the basil was also missing. Overall, does not live up to the hype. I might return if I'm in the area and given them another shot, as id still like to know how that chicken Alfredo pizza is. read more

We came here right at the beginning of the COVID-19 chaos, when restaurants were still open. We were fortunate enough to check out Big Pine Rooster on our ride out to Key West. Our server was super awesome, and very mindful of sanitizing/social distancing practices. I have no doubt that this place is super clean, and the food was really great! They have a full bar, and a huge menu. Someone in our group even got a Maine Lobster Reuben! Very cool choice. He said it was fantastic. I thought my fish tacos were pretty good, made with fried Mahi Mahi, and my boyfriend's Whiskey Chicken Flatbread was really great!!He also thoroughly enjoyed the Beach Bread w/ blue cheese and mozzarella and marinara dipping sauce. Restaurant is heavy on meat and resembles a diner. Food was pretty good although vegan options were far and few in between. The waitress was helpful. I had rice and beans with green bell peppers, salsa and guacamole which was extra. Had to ask for no sour cream. Was very good. The impossible burger was just ok and bland and you need to ask for no cheese. The ice tea was probably the worst I've ever had and tasted like watered down coffee with sugar.
