Now for the food...I got the chicken and waffles, with grits and eggs and added sauteed onions. The chicken was NEXT LEVEL good...and the waffles came with powdered cinnamon I believe and was good without syrup. The sauteed onions were freaking EPIC a long with the grits. The eggs were about average...it wasn't bad...but it was world class...but eating the whole meal as a collective... simply AMAZING. A pretty good place for southern breakfast/brunch. I had the chicken waffle, and was given a choice of belgian or regular waffle. I tried the belgian version, and gosh it was fluffy light and so delicious. The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender inside, though some pieces are overly salty. My husband ordered the pork chop and he didn't enjoy it as much, finding it too dry and tough. The price is very reasonable and the service friendly. The grits were solid, I enjoyed the grits and eggs. the most. My constructive criticism comes in with the meat items. I found this place thanks to Yelp, so please allow me to give back, in the form of this review. First, you need to understand that I hate brunch. I have the bottomless and the shitty takes on breakfast food but more expensive and I hate people who brunch. What I do love is breakfast. Simple, pure breakfast. No hot takes. No drunken girls wooing. Just people grabbing sustenance for their day without drama or sunglasses on their head. Flava's is almost the distillation of a perfect breakfast place. They close at noon, so you can't even get anything with "unch" in the title. They have a simple menu of proteins and eggs and sides. I got eggs, sausage and homefries. The eggs were good. The sausage was real big sausage that was not some weak small breakfast sausage. And the home fries were literally perfect. Far too many times, home fries are simply slices of potato with some crappy onion that sit on a grill for 2-4 minutes, which is long enough to get them slightly warm, but not long enough to crisp and this is a war crime. The home fries at Flava's were small tiny pieces of potato that were all perfectly crunchy and crisp. Like they cloned the best home fry and then shrunk it and made tons of them. This restaurant makes me want to petition Yelp to create a 6th star. read more

Just wow! We found Flava's from the great reviews here on Yelp. It was one of the best places I have been for breakfast/brunch. We were greeted right away and seated quickly. They have everything from chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits and most meats come with eggs and toast. I had the shrimp and grits and it was beyond good...like slap your mama good! Honestly better or equal to some I've had in New Orleans. It was so flavorful but not too spicy. The grits were just the right consistency and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. The hubby had two eggs over medium that were perfectly cooked, bacon that was super thick sliced and well done but not burnt, toast and home fries. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender inside and seasoned just right. Toast was great..buttered on the inside with options of Smuckers jelly. The manager greeted us when we arrived and checked on us after food came and visited for a minute and let us know they also offer catering. We felt very welcomed and our waitress was great. You are supposed to order at the counter but she took our order. (They do a good bit of take out orders). Our ticket was $24 for two adult full breakfasts and drinks. Came to this local gem after seeing fairly good reviews in yelp. We were on our way south to visit family and wanted to try something different. This place really hit the spot. It's a no frills place tucked deep into the neighborhood so I'm assuming it's a "best kept secret" situation. Food was great. This place was good. I guess if I wasn't familiar with similar establishments, this would be something new. It's a southern style soul food breakfast spot in South Dade. I had a fried pork chop, with eggs, home fries, and toast on the side (see photo). It was good, but if you've ever been to a waffle house or anywhere that serves southern style breakfast, you'd be familiar with this. I guess I'd have to return to try other menu items; everything was good, it just didn't separate itself from anything. Flavia's is a hidden gem in West Perrine. Parking is easily available and free. We were greeted by a kind and friendly young lady. She attended us quickly and was really sweet. The food arrived and it was delicious. I could taste fresh ingredients with every bite. My husband ordered the Salmon Croqueta & I ordered the chicken and waffles. We ate it ALL! I could go on for ever about this place however I think you get the gist, I love it! If you are within an hour, a state or a country you probly should go ahead and put this on your must do list. The food in this place was delicious! I had the chicken & waffles. I unashamedly didn't know the difference between Belgian waffles (thick) and classic waffles (thin) and ordered the wrong one - Belgian. To my surprise, it was REALLY good. I had both and the Belgian was the better of the two IMHO. My ONLY complaint was that there was still some feather residue on ibe of my wings. I sampled some of the food of my compadres and it was delicious as well. Don't let my one complaint stop you from tasting this DELICIOUSNESS. Now i'm not diving into the science or chemistry on way the waffles here are different but just trust me they are. I'm not sure how long Flava's has been opened as a restaurant selling breakfast, but I am so glad that they made the decision to bring about the change. What I immediately liked about the place was that as soon as I stepped through the doors I was greeted by staff. Genuinely greeted. At least they made it feel that way. They serve up southern favorites like fish and grits, corn beef hash, sausage sandwiches, and chicken and waffles, just to name a few. There are more than enough options that you can find at least one meal that will satisfy you. I'm sure of it and you can quote me on that. So many in fact, that I was indecisive for at least 3-4 minutes as I stood at the front of the line. Finally I chose something that I hadn't had in at least a year, shrimp and grits. After placing my order and paying, I took a seat. The place is pretty spacious. It's decor the many acknowledgments of Mr. Bell's dedication to his community to include newspaper articles, plaques, and other community service/sporting memorabilia. I waited about 20-25-30 minutes for my food to arrive. The mounted television kept me entertained. To my surprise not only did I have the fish and grits, but scrambled eggs and toast as well. The eggs were cooked perfectly (soft scrambled) just the way I like. My toast was buttery and so were my grits. The flavors of the seasoned shrimp and grits meshing well. My only complaint is that my shrimp were cooked too long. Any longer I would have been eating rubber. Lol. Overall, good food, great service, and great prices. It was worth the visit. The grits were creamy and the gravy on top was flavorful. On the way out, I decided to get a salmon croquette to go. It's a little pricey at $4.99 for one but after tasting it, I decided it was money well spent!
