Went here and it was suppose to be open and it wasn't. In a sketchy neighborhood and looked like a dump.

If you're debating about coming here let me make that decision for you; come and try it. I park with my brother and mind you we are incredibly hungry so we stop by here after seeing the reviews on Yelp. We park and as we come out we're greeted by whom I believe is one of the owners (Zack if I remember correctly). Already hospitality is great. We walk in and we're greeted by the wonderful waitresses who immediately tell us to take a seat. We wait just a little before we order our drinks and food. Now the food is absolutely delicious. It was my first time trying southern food besides cracker barrel and I'd choose this place any day any time. Portions are big so you'll be sure walking out with a full stomach. Finally the finishing touch Zack introduces himself and I compliment his food and hospitality. He's warm, friendly and seems to always make sure everyone feels at home. My favorite breakfast spot. They have the best fried pork chops! Today we shared a special that includes three meats, two waffles, and two sides. We got eggs and grits with pork chop, bacon, and pork pattie. Everything was delicious and came out quick. Highly recommend this spot. read more

Best no frills breakfast in Miami-Dade... Best Shrimp and Grits anywhere!!! It was basic, but I wouldn't want it any other way. Its not in an area most normally go, but how is that fair to all business owners? So the food, besides the phenomenal shrimp and grits.... I typically don't eat diner style eggs, but they were also amazing and cooked perfectly... and oh the sweet tea . My boyfriend had the hash and said it was also super! The staff was really nice! What I assume was the owner or manager was over the top incredible and was all over the place to make sure everyone was taken care of. When we first arrived we weren't sure it wouldn't be a cash only place, and they ended up taking Apple Pay. Things were older, but super clean and the kitchen looked immaculate! I loved it... Visited Flava's early Sunday morning after reading about them on Best of New Times. It's hard to find good local soul food in Miami, so we were surprised when we read about them and discovered they were so close to us. We had chicken and waffles, corn hash, eggs and home fries. Everything was delicious. Service was quick and excellent- the staff were all warm and friendly. We live only a few miles away but never even knew Flava's existed until now! Every time I go, I wish I could eat more because it's so good. I usually get my corned beef hash, grits and eggs, it's my "usual" and I'm never disappointed! We needed a breakfast spot after church and found this little gem on Yelp. The reviews were all great so we decided to give it a try. It is not located in the best of areas but don't judge a book by its cover. It has a dive bar feel and you have to walk up to place your order. All entrees come with eggs and grits. We were told you could order double on one or substitute for home fries. I will have to try those next time. I had the shrimp and grits which were amazing! The shrimp were cleaned well and the broth they came in was so tasty. Grits were stone ground and so creamy. Perfect combo! We shared the waffle which tasted just like Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Was looking on yelp to have lunch on my break from work, randomly came accross Flava's which closed in 30 minutes, and I decided to give it a try. Since I was on a time crunch as they were closing, I didn't even look at the menu, I asked for a suggestion and was immediately told "Chicken and Waffles", EASY, I went with it, and let me tell you, I do not regret it!! The chicken was fresh, cooked the order, and well seasoned. The waffle was fluffy, airy and a great size. I drank their version of an Arnold Palmer which was delicious, made sure to take the rest of it to go! I asked for hot sauce on the side, cause the chicken was not spicy and I like a little kick, so if spice and you are not friends, no worries here. The food was amazing, but honestly the service was better. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, I had gotten there with 20 minutes to closing and was still welcomed to dine in. Today was my first time eating at this spot. A friend of mine recommended the place since she knew I liked to try different foods. I never had a southern meal before and this place was amazing for my first expert. Right after posting pictures on Instagram, a friend of mine went the same day and tried one of the meals I had. This little place packs great flava honestly great southern breakfast I wish I lived a little closer so I could be there more often but I am definitely going back soon. I got the chicken and waffles with the traditional waffle and it was amazing. Also make sure you try the flop drink it's a Arnold palmer with their own little twist ! Went to Flava's with my dad last Sunday before church. We had the chicken and waffles and the shrimp with grits. Both were spot on! The service was also outstanding! My dad and I split both dishes and our waitress anticipated our needs and immediately brought us an extra plate and bowl to split both dishes before I even had the chance to ask for them. The staff also checked in on us several times while we ate. This is good old fashion soul food served up with lots of TLC and hospitality! The belgium waffles are so good and have a hint of cinnamon that makes them stand out among any I have had even at high end establishments. Bacon seems to be almost hand sliced and very flavorful. The shrimp and grits is spot on and just like it should be without any fancy sauces. Grits and home fries are some of the best in the city. Not impressed. I ordered the chicken and waffles at the recommendation of all the reviews. The only positive comment that I can say is that the wings were a good size. Definitely not small like many other restaurants or wing spots. The problem was the chicken was undercooked inside and pink and rubbery. I could only nibble on the outside cooked parts. Seasoning was ok but since it was raw I couldn't get a good bite to taste. I had the original waffle instead of Belgium flavor on the waffle was basic. They put a lot of cinnamon on the waffle which is weird since they don't mention it on the menu and don't even ask if you like cinnamon. I know people who hate it. They should start asking people or at least list it on the menu description. I drove out of my way to visit this place. It's on a shady looking street. Definitely won't be coming back since I wasn't impressed. Maybe they had a bad day with the chicken but not worth me trying again. read more

Wish I lived in the area so I could go eat here all the time. I'm a sucker for some soul food and Flava's is serving up traditional comfort food menu items all at an affordable price. Went with friends in which we ordered the Shrimp and Grits $10.99 and the chicken waffles. I adored my shrimp and grits---portion size was phenomenal, the fresh flavors were all there, the cheesy grits cooked perfectly and my scrambled eggs much better than most breakfast spots. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles which he was not too fond of considering its price and how it came out. He felt that the waffle were very good, liking the cinnamon, but didn't care for the choice of wings on top. Most chicken and waffles come with chicken breast to make it easier to eat together which is the only reason he disliked it. He did love the fried chicken though and when I tried it the batter was delicious! I would probably go back and get the wings but not to eat with the waffle since I'm not a sweets in the morning type anyways. Had the chicken and waffle. I was not disappointed. They made my Belgium waffle crispy and moist, and the cinnamon dust took it to the next level. I like my waffles crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I dont like waffles that feel like pancakes. The spices on the wings were perfect. Best chicken and waffles idea in this part of town.
