This is a great neighborhood restaurant id you are looking for ole school dining a southern mom would make. You can have your proteins smothered in a brown gravy. We had the following Smothered shrimp and grits and eggs Fried fish and shrimp with grits Fried smothered pork chops

Such a neighborhood gem! Formally known as MLK restaurant (now at a new location), Pastime serves great breakfast. We tried: Steak, eggs & Waffles Georgia sausage, eggs & French toast In the past I have tried: Chicken and waffles Lemonade On this particular day, they didn't have lemonade which was actually pretty sad. They have the best lemonade I have ever tasted lol true, authentic, "black lemonade." The waffles were perfectly soft with a nice sprinkle of powdered sugar. My favorite thing about this restaurant are the prices and location. It's conveniently located and promises a great breakfast for any budget. I will definitely return.

If you all are familiar with MLK, this restaurant is located where MLK used to be located. From what I gathered, MLK owners weren't doing what they were supposed to and the owners of the building took it back. Or something along those lines. Food wise the food seems to be the same. I had the fried Tilapia breakfast which included grits and eggs. My son had pancakes with bacon and eggs and our other guest had the same. They both enjoyed their breakfast. Our other guest said the pancakes were ok. I thoroughly enjoyed my fish. I forgot to tell them to fry it hard but it was still good and flavorful. Didn't taste bland at all. One thing I noticed is that toast isn't included with the breakfasts, which I like. Idk if you have to ask for it specifically or if it comes with certain breakfasts. Customer service was great. That is one change that I can certainly appreciate from the previous owners. Service was quick as well. Overall we enjoyed our breakfast and would certainly come back.

Pleasantly surprised! Walked in on my way to the MLK building because I hadn't had breakfast yet, and it's the only place serving breakfast in walking distance. Open at 6am and they have a wide variety of seafood breakfast. I had the special Zesty beef sandwich. Portion was good! The sandwich was overflowing with beef. I feel like I got my money's worth. The onions and bell peppers were cooked to perfection. My only gripe about the sandwich is that it was overflowing with A1 steak sauce. Maybe if it only had a little bit, it would be perfect. The fries were battered lightly and fried perfectly! I could see them putting cajun seasoning on them and being one of the better fry joints out there. Nice homey atmosphere and very welcoming staff. Music is a little loud for my personal taste but that's just me being picky.

My partner is from Miami and knows all the little or big spots. I don't know how long they been around but seems like for a very long time. It is not in the best location, however if you live nearby just check it out. The food reminds you of a homecook meal. We dined in and I had the beef sausage, which was a huge portion size comes with grits and eggs. Yummy!! The staff works on a self of urgency, while keeping their cool. Definitely gonna tell my partner to bring me a plate next time he swings by!

Chicken and waffles and two cups of orange juice because the girl brought me a bottle instead of pouring some from a carton... lol

Walking in feels less like entering a dining room and more like stepping into your grandmas kitchen. The clatter of forks, the low hum of conversation, the unhurried hospitality it's a rhythm only established kitchens earn, a rhythm Jackson Soul Food has perfected over generations. The food arrives the way soul food should: unapologetically hearty, full of flavor, and untouched by trends. The fried whiting is a quiet masterpiece thin, impossibly crisp, and seasoned with the confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly what it's doing. The grits, creamy and barely salted, serve as a reminder that restraint is also a skill. And the biscuits? Buttery, tender, and almost spiritual when paired with a smear of house-made jam. But it's the oxtails that demand a moment of silence. Slow-braised until the meat gives in without protest, they come cloaked in a glossy gravy that tastes like hours of patience and years of practice. It is the sort of dish that reminds you why soul food endures: because it's built on discipline, memory, and love. Jackson Soul Food isn't flashy there's no neon signage or influencer-designed plating. What it offers instead is something rarer: consistency. A commitment to the dishes that built its legacy, not the ones chasing social media novelty. In a city where restaurants rise and fall with the tides, Jackson remains proudly rooted. Come hungry, come early, come with respect for a place that has quietly shaped Miami's culinary identity. This isn't just breakfast. It's a piece of Miami's soul served on a plate and one that continues to deserve its place in the city's story.

You need to stop by here. We didn't need to eat airplane food because this breakfast was so deliciously filling! The decor is super nice, bright and cheery. You want to stop in. The employees are welcoming and attentive. Helpful at describing dishes you may not be familiar with. We plan to return here on our next trip out of MIA.

It's not easy to find a truly authentic, Black-owned soul food restaurant, and I'm so glad I took a chance on Little Greenhouse Grill. We ordered the shrimp, rib tips, chicken steak with crispy onions, mac and cheese, and collard greens, and every single dish was absolutely wonderful. Huge congratulations to the chef, because this was real, authentic soul food done right. This is exactly the kind of food this town has been missing. The atmosphere feels warm and welcoming, like being in mama's house. The prices are very reasonable, which I truly appreciated. Shout-out to Will, who took great care of us and gave excellent recommendations. Everything he suggested was delicious. I will definitely be coming back. Little Greenhouse is a gem, and I'm so happy I finally got to experience it.
