I visited Phat City Subs to pick up a Cuban sandwich to take on my flight back home to Seattle. I read many reviews that said this tiny sandwich shop made the best Cuban in Dade county. My friend and I had to see for ourselves. When we arrived, we were greeted by Pablo, who introduced himself as the owner and operator of the shop. He has a deep passion for the sandwiches he makes, and the Dallas Cowboys. Don't let the latter point stop you from going if you're not a Cowboys fan. He'll teach you some things. I was humbled, but didn't feel belittled at all. He knows his Cowboys! Anyway, we saw him make a GIGANTIC meatball sub for the customers in front of us. Did I tell you it was GIGANTIC? I asked if the Cuban would be as big, and he said it would be. So my friend and I decided to order one and split it. Each half was still GIGANTIC. Not only that, the price was the same you'd pay for lesser subs at many of the chain sub shops we all know of. Since I was eating it on my flight home, it wasn't hot like when I bought it. But damned if it wasn't the best Cuban sandwich I tasted on the entire trip. Also, it was so big that I could only eat half at the time. I saved the other half for lunch the next day. For lunch, I put the sub in a preheated oven and let it slowly heat up. I wanted to taste this beastie as close to its original form as possible. When I did, it didn't disappoint! It was the best Cuban sandwich that I've ever eaten. Full stop. I will definitely come back next time I visit Miami! read more

Truth be told, I don't think any sub place can top what Mugz is doing here in Hialeah. It's a small, inconspicuous sub shop in a little strip mall with a few tables and a large area where he's cheffing away. The menu items are all easy winners but the meatball sub (not pictured), the Italian and steak bomb are my top 3 here. I'm working my way through the menu but you can't go wrong any which way you go. And if it's not in the menu, like the pizza, he'll whip it up if he has the ingredients. Best sub shop in Miami, nothing more to say. Let my pics speak on it. This was such an expected pleasure to discover this place. What a find, it's easy to miss because it's tucked away but trust me, you want to find this place. We were welcomed like family even though it was our first time there. The owner / chef Mugzy has a passion that is so incredibly contagious and the food really shows how much love is there. I got the Philly cheesesteak and an order of Oxtails (I think he has a daily special, so definitely ask what's cooking) the bread was super soft and fresh, the meat was overflowing and covered with cheese. The Oxtails were fall off the bone, and even the frijoles were insane, and the flan was home made! The feel of the spot is very charming, it has a ton of photos and Funko pops on the wall. Very fun, and casual so you can bring the friends, bring the fam. The price is a great value for the quality of food you're getting. Go check them out! read more

Also they have this thing called crack sauce and I put it on my sub; and it was very good on it. So try it when you got.
